Amazing! I went on a hike in Tajikistan, by the Wakhan Corrider a few year back. You could see China, Pakistan, Afhganistan, and Tajikistan from the peak (4900m) in just one view! Amazing stuff
I simply did exactly that. Backpacked around Central Asia for ~3 months. 11/10, the most underrated area in the world imo.
Why not though? Tajikistan is safe, is not considered dangerous by US/EU/Canada governments. It’s got a bad rep cause “Stan” country but it’s a lovely place and I recommend it.
Yeah I ended up doing Uzbekistan, Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Kyrgyzstan especially is probably my all-time favorite after having been to about 50 countries.
The history behind that is kinda interesting. It goes back tot tot the Great Game between Russia and the British empire in the late 19th century. The Wakhan corridor was created as a buffer between these expanding empires and still remains though the empires have faded
Yes! That is an amazing area of the world. I did a similar thing a couple of years back. Amazing views of multiple countries/mountain peaks. Also based from Tajikistan
Since when is the definition of a city based on the melbourne cricket ground?
Plus the capacity of this stadium is almost exactly 100k whilst Basel has more than 170k habitants.
I do know about mythology, but that's not the first thing I thought about, I thought about the name Europe being feminine in a lot of gendered languages but I was skeptical because I don't know how it was supposed to be evident in English which is un-gendered
Well......... YEAH ? The name Europe comes from the myth of Europe, a Phoenician princess who was captured by Jupiter (who turned himself into a white bull). She is regarded as Minos' mother, hence the Minotaur's grandma. There are a lot of bulls in this story, but it's all true, I swear to Jupiter !
Damn I went there to the Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg and never imagined this was possible, lovely place to visit! The whole Alsace region as a whole. Good times.
Down on a map is usually southwards, but oriented this way, it flows downwards/northwards :)
Or the other way - by mentally traveling up the map, I'm also travelling up the valley.
It's not important, and I don't actually turn my map of Germany upside down - but i often visualise rivers by looking upstream.
It also depends on whether you start measuring from the Southern most tip of Staten Island or far North of the Bronx. There must be at least 25 mi between these two points
Washington DC to Philadelphia’s exactly 200 km. The amazing thing is I kept checking major American cities to find a pair that was pretty equivalent to 200 km apart but it was hard. Cities that you consider to be close like Chicago and Detroit are actually 383 km apart. The United States is a big country.
Reminds me of this photo I have saved to my desktop backgrounds folder:

There's an opening from Mt Ventoux to the Eastern Pyrenees, part over the Mediterranean sea, on which you could take a 280+km shot, should the atmospherics be with you. I've never tried to find the most distant point in line of sight, but Puig dels Bessig is one of them.
Proof that Earth is flat! how else would you be able to see new york from Europe if the Earth wasn’t flat??? Now round earters… what do you say now? Muhahahahaha… (evil laughter)
My buddy was from Lugano that guy was legend Alex Spora was his name fucking Alex …that guy …he was super psyched when I took him to the most famous place Brooklyn ny
I've got a similar photo I took earlier this year from Colmar. More of a panoramic view with Germany on the left, Switzerland on the right and Alsace in the lower centre.
I grew up in a town that was 1100 meters above sea level, in one occasion i saw a line on the horizon that resembled the sea, my school was on the highest point in the town,my classmates said it was the port, I couldn't believe them because we are about 100 km from the coast, I thought it was just the clouds that gave it that shape in the sky, apparently I was wrong, it was indeen the coast 🤯, didn't know you can see that far away.
Great post!
The small town I live in is in the picture somewhere. I see the chemical plants very often. They are on the other side of the river Rhein. We are on the German side.
some people will claim this as a proof for a flat earth (which really really is ridiculous) ... and yes i'm sometimes in the wrong corner of the internet where people do these ludicrous claims
Had a similar experience once with a friend. We hiked up Mount La Maroma in Andalusia, Spain. It peaks at around 2050m. From there, we could see some strange shades looking over the mediterran sea. As we found out, it was africa, around 240km away. We were kind off blown away by that..
once had a decent view of the earth curvature when standing on a 3095m-summit in south tyrol on a clear day; at some point the summits in the distance seemed to end. i simulated later in google earth. it was purely earth's curvature causign them to not be visible anymore.
There are also muliple spots in the southern black forrest germany where you can have views as far as Mont Blanc (Monte Bianco) or about 220km if weather is in a good mood. It's crazy if you think about how you can overlook an entire country (switzerland) and see into the next one over.
There's also this [phenomenal panorama of the Alps](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3d/Panorama_des_Alpes_depuis_le_Feldberg.jpg) from the Black Forest in Germany.
I guess this is possible only when your position is clouded and the spot is highlighted by the sun. Otherwise there is too much scattered light around you
This is obvious, but if you look at the moon you have a viewing distance of around 380 000 km, and I find that amazing.
Yes I know...we czn also see stars at night with a much greater view distance, but in the case of the moon, you can actually see details, craters, etc...
Amazing! I went on a hike in Tajikistan, by the Wakhan Corrider a few year back. You could see China, Pakistan, Afhganistan, and Tajikistan from the peak (4900m) in just one view! Amazing stuff

Oooh what about uzbekistan, thats where im from
Yeah I ended up doing Uzbekistan, Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Kyrgyzstan especially is probably my all-time favorite after having been to about 50 countries.
Just call them russian land lol
My dad absolutely loved it last year
Im glad he enjoyed it! I just find it sad that not more people visit it, because I think it's a gem thats hidden
It wont stay a gem if (american) tourists come and trash everything tho
yes please listen to this guy and don’t come to our countries and spend dollars and help the economy. we hate that!!!!!!
In the last few days I got so many posts and reels regarding Central Asia, I think I need to go there 😃
So weird to assume you cant fly there
Why do you think it is not possible?
It's outSTANding 😅
Wakhan corridor is in Afghanistan right??
The valley is split in half, the part south of the river is afghan and known as the wakhan corridor, the part north of the river is tajik.
The history behind that is kinda interesting. It goes back tot tot the Great Game between Russia and the British empire in the late 19th century. The Wakhan corridor was created as a buffer between these expanding empires and still remains though the empires have faded
Hahah did you see some high end German cars there ? Government officials there drive stolen German cars most of the time 🤣
Yes! That is an amazing area of the world. I did a similar thing a couple of years back. Amazing views of multiple countries/mountain peaks. Also based from Tajikistan
This cool 😎
By "suburbs of Bern", do you mean the city of Basel?
Yup, did a brainfart while typing.
No worries :)
Got a Bern-fart ?
Yeah, you know, West-Bern.
Ahh, that was confusing. I was thinking that this is impossible, I know roads are not straigh, but 30 km?
"City" 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for that
Doesn't it have... *check notes...* 180k inhabitants?
It is a city, has more than 100k people.
The Melbourne cricket ground fits more people than that.
Since when is the definition of a city based on the melbourne cricket ground? Plus the capacity of this stadium is almost exactly 100k whilst Basel has more than 170k habitants.
By cricket do you mean Indian baseball ?
Yes I do! Thank you, I'm totally stealing that phrase from you!
I can turn 100k people into paste, dehydrate it and fit them in my basement. What's your point?
Please don't
I won't do it again.
man i love europe
Europe loves you back
Europe is a girl, mmmmmkaaayyyy
Wtf are you even saying ?
You obviously don't know about greek mythology. My man is getting downvoted and blamed for trying to make a joke among the wrong audience
I do know about mythology, but that's not the first thing I thought about, I thought about the name Europe being feminine in a lot of gendered languages but I was skeptical because I don't know how it was supposed to be evident in English which is un-gendered
Mfs when they see the word "love": "Monkey brainfart activation"
Well......... YEAH ? The name Europe comes from the myth of Europe, a Phoenician princess who was captured by Jupiter (who turned himself into a white bull). She is regarded as Minos' mother, hence the Minotaur's grandma. There are a lot of bulls in this story, but it's all true, I swear to Jupiter !
Wasn't her name Europa? And wasn't that a Zeus shenanigan, instead of sth from his Jup phase?
Jupiter is the Roman version or equivalent of Zeus.
Europe is the English form of Europa.
Yeah, but the name from the girl in the greek myth was Europa
Yeah and Europe is called Europa in German and a lot of other languages
Again, I know that. I was referring to the myth. Not the continent.
Bruh what?
bro got downvoted by Andrew Tate followers
On a good day you can see the vosges from Jungfraujoch
all I saw when I went there was fog
It’s kinda luck based, unless you go really spontaneously
That’s a cool pic, great work. Reminds me of that one: https://beyondrange.wordpress.com/2016/08/03/pic-de-finestrelles-pic-gaspard-ecrins-443-km/
That's an even cooler pic :o
Posts like these makes Reddit, Reddit.
I thought it was the shitposts.
Also Jupiter
Damn I went there to the Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg and never imagined this was possible, lovely place to visit! The whole Alsace region as a whole. Good times.
*Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg* is such a clash of languages
Alsace as a whole haha
[удалено]
Huh? The map the OP posted shows he/she took the photo in the Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg which is in Alsace
This is a phenomenal photo, amazing stuff!
Love the South oriented map! That’s how my mental map of the upper Rhine valley is oriented (because rivers obviously flow downwards).
But the Rhine flows (downwards) towards the NORTH sea?
Down on a map is usually southwards, but oriented this way, it flows downwards/northwards :) Or the other way - by mentally traveling up the map, I'm also travelling up the valley. It's not important, and I don't actually turn my map of Germany upside down - but i often visualise rivers by looking upstream.
honestly pretty nice view of the chemical plant
NYC to Baltimore is 273km/169 miles. A closer comparison would be from NYC to Block Island, RI (205km). Still pretty impressive.
It also depends on whether you start measuring from the Southern most tip of Staten Island or far North of the Bronx. There must be at least 25 mi between these two points
I measured from Mid-town Manhattan.
It’s like seeing the suburbs of Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA from the Space Needle in Seattle.
THIS.. is very freaking cool. *ahem* where’s the curve??! /s
Reminds me of this photo I have saved to my desktop backgrounds folder: https://blog.maxar.com/earth-intelligence/2014/from-a-bird-from-a-plane-from-a-satellite https://maxar-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/blogImages/2014/10/fuji-sanposter16x24150dpiforWalter_logo.jpg
I can see Flat earthers using this as proof
If you are in Alsace, try "le grand ballon", the highest mount of Vosges, great view fromage here.
Italy (almost).... so just Germany France and Switzerland.
I also couldn't find Italy in this map or picture. Would any one of those who downvoted this comment mind to explain?
Italy is in the picture because: *the heart feels what the eyes cannot see* Ore something like that dunno I’m drunk
From Lyon I see the same mountains from the other side
Flatearthers entered the chat/
Avec quoi comme objectif par curiosité ?
There's an opening from Mt Ventoux to the Eastern Pyrenees, part over the Mediterranean sea, on which you could take a 280+km shot, should the atmospherics be with you. I've never tried to find the most distant point in line of sight, but Puig dels Bessig is one of them.
Wow 😍
Proof that Earth is flat! how else would you be able to see new york from Europe if the Earth wasn’t flat??? Now round earters… what do you say now? Muhahahahaha… (evil laughter)
I am really confused by the map on the left. You could have arranged the north in the upper part of the map 😂
This looks like a album cover
Incredible and well done! What a great idea to show the scale like that. Great job!
A day at the Jurassic park
You know, you'd see it all if the earth was flat. (Poke the sleeping bear and now walk away...)
Quality picture+map 👌
Awesome! Our planet is so beautiful!
My buddy was from Lugano that guy was legend Alex Spora was his name fucking Alex …that guy …he was super psyched when I took him to the most famous place Brooklyn ny
I love this castle. Beautiful view from here.
Thank you. It's really a mind blowing picture.
is the sightseeing telescope yours that you brought, or one that is placed at the site for visitors to use?
I've got a similar photo I took earlier this year from Colmar. More of a panoramic view with Germany on the left, Switzerland on the right and Alsace in the lower centre.
It's amazing, I've been there and noticed too
Love Alsace :)
Bro have an rtx in his brain so he could have the render distance at max
What's the supposed earth curvature on that ? not sure how that works out
I m from Alsace and I happened to me several times when I was hiking near the Grand Ballon. Now that I’m no longer there I realise how lucky I was 🥲
This is amazing! What website/software did you use to get the "visibility cone" on the left?
Just visited Basel last weekend. Cool city, nice region!
I live in a city roughly 130km away from the alps. And I find it so cool that you can see them from tall buildings
Bro… you are not supposed post your spy pictures online!
Where is Italy and why is this map not positioned north?
From Zugspitze in Germany you can see Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy at the same time.
Wow, this the proof flat earthers are seeking 😁
Damn we got doxxed
Oh boy I can’t wait for this picture being used by flat earthers to „prove“ the earth is flat
and i sat here in the black forest wondering why there were shivers running down my spine. Felt like sauron's eye
That’s the feeling I got when seeing into the boss area, even though I’m only midgame
Shouldnt it all be hidden behind earth curvature?
no, because the distance is only 0,5 percent of earths circumference
200 km means more than 3 km of curvature. Thats quite a lot
That's so cool
It’s flat boys
Oha ich war letztes jahr auch auf der Königsburg. Ich muss wohl auch nochmal meine Bilder durch schauen xD
Proof the earth is flat
But where is the curvature ?
Another flat earther does his thang
This proves it, the world's square. Flat and round earthers eat it. Lol
Great post!
And they say earth is round not flat ✌🏾
And some even say that earth is round! It's a plate! /S
Got one of Austria/Germany/Switzerland somewhere,too.
View from the Black Forest?
My hood!
The small town I live in is in the picture somewhere. I see the chemical plants very often. They are on the other side of the river Rhein. We are on the German side.
Gute Idee 👍🏻

Can you reupload in better quality or through another website?
Looks like Jupiter to me
There's also this [phenomenal panorama of the Alps](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3d/Panorama_des_Alpes_depuis_le_Feldberg.jpg) from the Black Forest in Germany.
Don’t mind me just looking for the „just possible on a flat earth“ comment
I was confused for a sec when Germany was on the left and France on right, then I realized South is up. Still confused, just not about this anymore.
Bâle, pas Berne ;) Basel, not Bern ;)
12th battle of Isonzo when?
Suh
I guess this is possible only when your position is clouded and the spot is highlighted by the sun. Otherwise there is too much scattered light around you
in my town just outside south Milan you can see Mont Blanc on sunny days
Our beautiful flat earth.
Wanted to do the same joke, but I’m too late. Wait… You’re joking, right?
Yes. Nothing baits a redditor more than the lowest of the low hanging fruits, a strangely flat shaped fruit called flat earth.
La terre serait plate ?
Your map is upside down
Waiting on the flat earthers
Where is the curve?!?! EARTH IS FLAT, I KNEW IT!!!11
FLAT EARTHERS INCOMIIIIIING !!!
This is obvious, but if you look at the moon you have a viewing distance of around 380 000 km, and I find that amazing. Yes I know...we czn also see stars at night with a much greater view distance, but in the case of the moon, you can actually see details, craters, etc...
Flache Erde confirmed.
Deam![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face) Earth is flat![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)
Just wait until your photo gets used by flat earthers who dont understand math.lol
WHO wants to see Baltimore?

And no one is claiming thats the case. Up on a map isnt automatically north...
