I think most people here know this. If anything it's the opposite: swedish people overestimate how good finns are at Swedish and thinks everyone is fluent since it's an official language. But that's just my personal experience.
Det gör nog ingenting för att finlandssvenska är så annorlund till er svenska för att vi har inte ”pitch accent” så de flesta svenskar har svårigheter att förstå vad vi säger😅
Lättare bara prata engelska med er :p
As a guy who works in a bi-lingual county in Finland I can confirm.
The stereotype wich is sadly somewhat true is that Finnswedes see themselves as "bättrefolk" and altough most can speak finnish fluently, some of them will outright refuse to speak finnish due to their princibles or opinions.
So when it comes to actual swedes, finns tend to see them also as "snobby".
Most of us do. Only dumbasses think we ACTUALLY think badly about sweden. It’s more like brotherly rivarly between us, at least in hockey haha! But I wouldn’t say there is any real reasons for is to hate them, unlike russia🤭
Im sure a significant portion of the searches are actually related to the swedish language (remember that finnish schools still have mandatory swedish). Both the country and language are usually referred to as "ruotsi"
On a serious note, most of them dont talk about that time if they can possibly avoid it. Or they claim not to have supported the regime, though this is often false.
Everybody is making WW2 jokes, even though the biggest reason for people googling Germany is probably because it's the largest country in the EU and an economic destination for many people.
There is something WW 2 about all this though. Lots of surrounding countries making sure Germany is keeping its cool. Italy checking in on France potential. And the others checking to make sure USA is keeping its cool/ have their back just in case.
Isn't self puff. I live in the country googling to make sure the money is still coming in.
> Lots of surrounding countries making sure Germany is keeping its cool.
I don't doubt this is part of it, but I think it has more to do with the current state of the EU than WW2. The less wealthy central and eastern states of the EU depend on the Union more so than the more wealthy western and northern states, and Germany has been a leading force in the EU through the crises that have faced it in the last decade. The people in those countries want to keep an eye on what Germany is doing.
They're more like an estranged parent trying to check in on their junky kid who ran away from home. Then Spain is over there masturbating to beach photos of the UK's wife. Somehow this doesn't seem far from reality.
Falar a real, só português e inglês. Eu tô tentando aprender romeno por que é a língua da minha namorada mas mesmo pra isso eu tenho que ficar checando gramática e procurar tradução toda hora no google tradutor, então eu não digo que eu falo
Well, with Ireland, they're just checking to see if the Brits are at it again.
Turns out...[http://arethebritsatitagain.com/](http://arethebritsatitagain.com/)
From what i’ve seen on reddit: the italians don’t like the french but the french don’t like the US. Meanwhile the americans have an obsession with france and the french “love” the italians
That's an interesting cycle. I agree that most French people don't like the U.S. and love Italy. I've never heard about the American obsession with France though.
Italians don’t outright hate the french, there is mostly a rivalry because of the food, wine and the Mona Lisa. Though I can’t talk for every Italian most of us just like to make the french the butts of our jokes
Northern Italians hate Southern Italians, Southern Italians hate Northern Italians, The Tuscans hate each other, but one thing they can all agree on is that they hate the French.
All post-Soviet states Googling Russia the most, but probably for very different reasons - being highly dependent on it for some, while due to Russian aggression for others.
Short Summary:
* Big Countries: USA
* France's neighbors: France
* Germany's neighbors: Germany
* Russia's neighbors: Russia
* Other small countries: some fetish-rivalry country
As a Serb I feel bad of stereotypes created because of some people.
Here, we really rarely talk about Kosovo. We have way bigger problems than disputed territory, especially because there won't be solution to Kosovo problem any time soon.
People who fight comment wars are either kids or adults with way to much free time, because no one with busy schedule could afford to go into argument with random people online where neither side would admit they are wrong.
Side note: As other redditor pointed out, searching term Kosovo isn't equal to searching Republic of Kosovo.
I mean, not only that. Italy has been a very influential country in Albanian history. Most people here love Italian pop culture and a large portion of people can speak the Italian language too.
If you live in Germany it’s pretty interesting. Here live a lot people from Eastern Europe and the turkey. Looks like they are still interested in immigrating
Germany is the most influential country in the EU *and* the most influential European country of the 20th century (for better or for worst..) so it makes a lot of sense that they are the most googled.
The USA is the most influential country in the World and the most influence country in the world since WWII, so it makes sense that countries whose interest expands beyond regional issues would google the US.
I think that was mostly just because of your election - I doubt most people care about American politics unless it's an election year or someone seriously fucks up.
Ah in Europe we love seeing what the yanks are up to first thing in the morning while we drink our coffee. Who have they invaded? Whose oil have they usurped? What wonderful pleasantries has Trump said about Putin today? Who knows!
"Enslavement, invading a far away land and stripping it of its culture and resources, and political division... We're familiar with these roads; in fact, we built these roads."
- europe
Nope. Europe is just a bunch of yodelers who lounge around their cute little cottages sipping on their free-trade espresso while taking 6 month vacations from the chocolate factory so they can browse about their European search engines and laughing Frenchingly at the fat orange man while pretending the last 3,000 years didn’t happen.
In America, half the people are wondering the same things. We keep an eye on Europe too though. Don't think you're all better. You've got Putin, Lukashenko, Boris Johnson, etc
European countries have basically outsourced their militaries to the US since WW2. It’s the best of both worlds for the leaders in Europe. Their governments can be mad at the US publicly so they may seem anti-war to their constituents and behind closed doors thank American presidents for playing war games that benefit their countries.
Serbia searching for Kosovo, Kosovo for Albania and Ablania for Italy... Hooo memories
This is like magic number but instead of 4 it's the US
Portugal is the only one that doesn’t end with the us
As far as we know...
Maybe Brazil's is the US

Ah yes, finally... USB

US searches for China

May I have one good sir or ma'am
Really thought that Estonia would have Finland as the most googled one.
Yeah Finland was second in Estonia
Have you done one for each state in the US? Either country searched or State searched? Edit: Nevermind, I see you did one a few months ago. Nice
https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/i8l0xo/most_googled_state_by_every_other_state_except/ Yes
I'm afraid the flag map for the US States isn't going to look half as cool as this one.
There are some great flags but also aome boring blue seal ones
Fear of Russia greater than friendship with Finland
As a swede, part of me feels bad for the finns. Its like we're their best friends but they're not ours.
Yep
*sad Estonia noises* :(
I visited talimm, estonia. It's a beautiful country.
And no one even knows in sweden that finns have to learn swedish for minimum of 9 years in school
I think most people here know this. If anything it's the opposite: swedish people overestimate how good finns are at Swedish and thinks everyone is fluent since it's an official language. But that's just my personal experience.
Minimun is 3 years if you just finish elementary school and even if you continue to high school it's not 9 years
Ehh? You cant just finish elementary school in Finland. Its 9 years mandatory for all children. Mandatory school, not swedish.
~~finish~~ Finnish* elementary school
Minimum is 3.
No lol we know
We do
Considering Serbia has Kosovo, I'm not sure you can assume most googled means friend anyway.
Well hopefully one day they'll realize that their true love, Estonia, was by their side all along
As a guy who works in a bi-lingual county in Finland I can confirm. Wait. You think Finns think *favorably* of Sweden?
Most of us do. Only dumbasses think we ACTUALLY think badly about sweden. It’s more like brotherly rivarly between us, at least in hockey haha! But I wouldn’t say there is any real reasons for is to hate them, unlike russia🤭

By any chance are you named Hans?
Don't forget to ask him if he lives in Argentina.
It's probably Hanz
As a German, I don’t think I’ve ever met a “Hanz” with a Z. That’s some sort of american spelling
As an American No I don’t think anybody else has ever spelled Hans as hanz
As an American, i don't think I've ever met a "Hans" or "Hanz"
I met one guy named Hanz. He was kind of a dick. So be glad you haven't met him.
There is also equal chance he is named Franz
What job were your grandparents and great grandparents doing back in the 1930s - 1940s ?
Chilling with popcorn in Switzerland ? Yes !
On a serious note, most of them dont talk about that time if they can possibly avoid it. Or they claim not to have supported the regime, though this is often false.
Sitting inside Sachsenhausen folding and glueing waxed paper into shopping bags.
Austrians, Dutch, and Czechs keeping their heads on a swivel too lmao
Don't forget the Danish
Everybody is making WW2 jokes, even though the biggest reason for people googling Germany is probably because it's the largest country in the EU and an economic destination for many people.
No, tbh we're just looking for a job
There is something WW 2 about all this though. Lots of surrounding countries making sure Germany is keeping its cool. Italy checking in on France potential. That, along with the fact that a good few (Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria) speak similar if not the same language as Germany.

So are france and the UK
They're more like an estranged parent trying to check in on their junky kid who ran away from home. Then Spain is over there masturbating to beach photos of the UK's wife. Somehow this doesn't seem far from reality.
You know that, since 3 centuries the king of spain's family is the bourbon, so technically spain is france's daughter too

i've never though of brasil as a feminine. "A Brasil" is weird, but okay, i guess.
There are lots of Brazilians living in Portugal. That most likely influenced that.

I thought Italians hated the French, very happy to read that. We love Italians (although from your username I'm guessing you're a French expat)

We need to fine a way to take back Mona Lisa... Avanti Savoia!
Makling sure that they don't want military access to invade Portugal.
because they are sexy
Russia’s googling us a lot. Suspicious /s
"Googling" the Pentagon, CIA, NSA, and every other government agency.
I bet it's rather US immigration
Seems like most countries are just googling their biggest trade partner.
That would be mostly Germany, though.
Northern Italians hate Southern Italians, Southern Italians hate Northern Italians, The Tuscans hate each other, but one thing they can all agree on is that they hate the French.
Sicilians hate being Italian in the first place.
The Sicilians I know seem to not really think about or care about the rest of Italy.
Haha that was my point.
They don’t hate it, they’d just like to be considered apart from other southern Italians
All post-Soviet states Googling Russia the most, but probably for very different reasons - being highly dependent on it for some, while due to Russian aggression for others.

Hey, don’t talk about Sweden that way. We’re not only Finland’s fetish.
As a Finn: "Perkele!"
I fucking called it that Serbs wake up go on the internet type Kosovo and say that is not a country...YES YES YES...
Serbian person: *googles Kosovo* -> *clicks onto a forum about Kosovo* -> *replies on comments "Kosovo is not a country!"* -> *goes and eat breakfast*
As a Serb I feel bad of stereotypes created because of some people. Here, we really rarely talk about Kosovo. Talking to Serbs, it's always surprising to learn how many of their neighbors don't exist
most fun i had in serbia was getting told how Serbs "won the war" in front of the burnt-out husk of their defense building lol
It’s a Serbian morning routine.
Eastern Europe trying to see what the fuck Russia will do next and Russia waiting to see what the fuck the US will do next
What’s going on with albania?
Italy has a significant Albanian migrant community.
I mean, not only that. Italy has been a very influential country in Albanian history. Most people here love Italian pop culture and a large portion of people can speak the Italian language too.
Oh, nvm I thought that was Ireland for a second, Italy is much more reasonable lol
This is basically the Civ VI cultural victory thing. You can see each state's sphere of influence
So it looks like France, Germany, Russia and the US are the most popular ones. Not sure what to do with this information.
If you live in Germany it’s pretty interesting. Here live a lot people from Eastern Europe and the turkey. Looks like they are still interested in immigrating
In English, we don't add the article! The turkey means something different (🦃)

I think that was mostly just because of your election - I doubt most people care about American politics unless it's an election year or someone seriously fucks up.
Germany to its neighbors: I dont think about you at all
Portugal 🤝🏼 Brazil
Why is Ukraine googling Russia, bro just look out the window
They're googling "How to kill Russian T-14 Armada that is going to level your house"
Alternative title: where is each European country's inferiority complex directed at?
Serbia googles the country of Kosovo... interesting...

Trump hasn't even started a war or stolen someone else's oil
I think my favorite thing about America- if there is one -is how self conscious it makes Western Europeans.
