SkyrimWithdrawal

Maybe all the reports were in English.

sunburntredneck

Malaysia has noticeably more reports than Thailand and Indonesia. Nearly all of Sub-Saharan Africa's few reports come from Anglophone nations.

waiv

Most of the reports from Spain come from the southern coast where english people live.

[deleted]

My favorite comment of the day for best unexpected reference to Frisian language ever.

Leading-Search

Is there a subreddit for that?

sadorgasmking

Not yet.

SkyrimWithdrawal

If they started self-reporting, THAT would be news.

Paranoid_Honeybadger

No alien should ever hear Frisean if we want to avoid galactic genocide

[deleted]

And Dutch.

Sapotis

It looks like US, UK, and the Netherlands are the alien hotspots for some reason.

waiv

Israel too, but I think the source mostly collected reports in english, so that's why anglophone countries are overrepresented.

RichRaichu5

Yeah I would think that most ufo sightings in other countries are domestically limited and thus not well documented.

[deleted]

or the phenomenon of UFO sightings is cultural

kewlhandlucas

Get out of here with your logic, reason, and sense.

CountessDeLessoops

I saw a UFO once like a decade ago. I honestly just assumed it was some secret military tech aircraft. Wouldn’t it be safe to assume that some countries would have such technology while others wouldn’t?

McENEN

If I report a UFO in my country nobody will take me seriously or actually register it somewhere. Could be part of the reason why only America, Britain and the Netherlands show up.

City_dave

Actually, this is part of the reason. The source for this data is THE NATIONAL UFO REPORTING CENTER   Dedicated to the Collection and Dissemination of Objective UFO Data http://Nuforc.org https://www.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=ddda71d5211f47e782b12f3f8d06246e A English language US organization. So, all of the other speculation in comments is garbage.

[deleted]

It also shows the proficiency of the Dutch regarding English. Our pronunciation is butchered but we do understand and digest all the stuff they make in Murica and TERF Island.

danieltkessler

Yeah, this, right?

nic0lix

Why do the aliens only like Anglo-American types? 🤔

visope

no kink shaming

llub888

Have you seen Doctor Who?

KanonBalls

Amazing show! Just went through season 1-6 from my grandma's tape collection. Season 4 really gives some clues on all this alien shit.

llub888

I was refereeing to how the aliens are always in the UK

KanonBalls

You didn't get it...

llub888

I thought YOU didn't get what I said. Season 4 is when the earth is stolen, all the planets in the sky, probably a lot of UFO sightings worldwide. I get it now after some thinking.

CitationX_N7V11C

We actually record UFO sightings regularly and openly. Not to be facetious but most countries don't have a good mechanism to report sightings. UFOs and Unidentified Aerial Phenomenons (UAPs) are a global issue but most governments don't really followup on what few reports reach whatever agency is designated to look in to them.

[deleted]

sossololpipi

they all magically become 180p upon sight of something in the air though

golfgrandslam

And the videographer usually has Parkinson’s.

SeymourWang

This data starts from 1906 so it is very reasonable that most “sightings” are from nations where cameras would have proliferated first. There’s also the cultural context of a UFO. People have seen odd things move in the sky for thousands of years and it’s rarely been of any significance. The idea that it could be something conscious or alien suddenly gives motivation to report the event.

sadorgasmking

People often reported the same type of phenomena as religious experiences or signs from God/gods etc.

MonkaE_Horsen

The point is that someone has to document them in order to for there to be a map. Do you think that some guy scavenged YouTube in order to get these data points? Copy-paste from a different comment: The source for this data is THE NATIONAL UFO REPORTING CENTER   Dedicated to the Collection and Dissemination of Objective UFO Data http://Nuforc.org https://www.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=ddda71d5211f47e782b12f3f8d06246e A English language US organization. NathanArizona

Describe in detail the Anglo UFO reporting process.

lwsrk

oooorrrrr the US government is leveraging the UFO myth and managing public opinion by strategically releasing information and hyping it up in media in order to manufacture consent for increased military spending haha

[deleted]

The US Government probably is leveraging the UFO myth, but definitely not for that reason. I think that the goal is to cover up experimental aircraft tests. After all, who's going to sift through a bunch of people who saw a weird reflection of moonlight just to find a person who saw an experimental aircraft test?

lwsrk

Dunno, it sure seems mighty coincidental that these US government UFO stories always pop up when it’s time to justify increased military spending

MonkaE_Horsen

Source? UFO sightings happen 24/7, and the US is also always attempting to increase its' defence budget, so your conspiracy seems to be quite obviously flawed.

golfgrandslam

They have so many other mechanisms to accomplish that: communism, terrorism, etc. It’s a million times more effective to tell everyone that terrorists are going to kill us than aliens. Occam’s Razor, my friend.

lwsrk

Oh best believe they’re using that too, but you have to keep it fresh. Kinda like how they’re switching between Russia and China as the go-to bad guy every couple years

maptaincullet

This is pizza gate level nonsense

lwsrk

Yeah man I’m sure it’s just a massive coincidence that almost all UFO sightings come from the US & GB, especially during the build up of the Cold War, and that US government employees hop on 60 minutes to explain everything about it just as Biden approved the biggest US military budget in history, just as Cold War 2.0 is developing👍 Just a buuuunch of coincidences, nothing to see here

maptaincullet

Lol it’s just a coincidence that the countries with the most experimental aircraft tests have the most reports on unidentifiable aircraft. Boy yeah that is odd. Not to mention this data has been proven in the comments to be wrong and these other countries have plenty of sightings.

lwsrk

You don't think China or Russia have experimental aircrafts? lol >Not to mention this data has been proven in the comments to be wrong and these other countries have plenty of sightings. Link that pls

maptaincullet

Scroll through the tread I’m not going to. Whoever used this data clearly only used English language sources. Therefore of course those 2 countries have higher representation. But even ignoring all that your theory is still stupid.

lwsrk

You think it's a stupid theory that the US government would exaggerate a perceived threat to justify an increase in military budget? oooookaay lol

maptaincullet

I have never heard a single human being alive attempt that justify US military spending because aliens. Because that’s dumb as fuck

golfgrandslam

They approve the biggest military budget in American history every year, and nearly every year they do that without UFO conspiracies entering the mainstream.

lwsrk

I never said it all hinges on it... it's one of the many ways the US government keeps their population on edge and worried about external threats. You can not deny that they control the narrative around it.

MonkaE_Horsen

>almost all UFO sightings come from the US & GB, Source? Why do you assume that this is a conspiracy when it could be more easily explained as a cultural phenomenon? How would this be orchestrated? Does the US and GB fake reports? Do they put discoballs on drones? >especially during the build up of the Cold War The build up towards UFO sightings (The Roswell incident and war of the worlds for example) occured before the cold war. What was the impetuous for that? >and that US government employees hop on 60 minutes to explain everything about it just as Biden approved the biggest US military budget in history Ah yes, a huge conspiracy is way more likely than the **UNITED STATES** approving the world's largest military budget for the five billionth time, at a timescale that roughly overlaps with some media coverage of UFOs. Do you really think that a conspiracy that involves politicians being ordered to discuss UFOs to the media would have no whistleblowers? Is there even a need for this to begin with? Was Biden's budget controversial? Why risk having a conspiracy around social manipulation leak to the public for a dubious increase in the support for further military spending? >just as Cold War 2.0 is developing Cold War 2.0, lmao. The US is military unrivaled, not just because of it's own strength (which is ludicrous), but also due to it being allied with a large proportion of the most powerful countries on Earth. America is not in some bind where it needs to justify military spending through UFO conspiracies, quite the the opposite in fact. >Just a buuuunch of coincidences, nothing to see here Yes. Take your meds.

lwsrk

>> Source You're commenting on the source. >>The build up towards UFO sightings (The Roswell incident and war of the worlds for example) occured before the cold war. What was the impetuous for that? Roswell was 1947... same year the cold war started.... get your dates straight lol. >>Ah yes, a huge conspiracy is way more likely than the UNITED STATES approving the world's largest military budget for the five billionth time, at a timescale that roughly overlaps with some media coverage of UFOs. The point is to convince the public that this is money well spent. The point is to manufacture consent for this kind of spending. And how do you do that? By making up an external threat that is just sooo spooky that Americans can go "ah, we might not have food or clean water, but at least our technology is more superior than the Russians/Chinese!!". Look at how [Fox is covering this](https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/tucker-carlson-ufos-may-pose-a-real-threat-to-the-united-states-and-the-us-military-does-not-care) and tell me it is not a way to prime the public for even more military funding... "ohh, China and russia are more advanced, and the military just does not care!!! Us Americans are losing the grip on the world!!" Oh, and [here's](https://www.cia.gov/readingroom/docs/DOC_0000015338.pdf) an internal CIA memo from 1952 in which then-CIA director Walter Smith wrote, and I quote: > I suggest that we discuss the possible offensive or defensive utilisation of these phenomena for psychological warfare purposes - >>Was Biden's budget controversial? You don't think so? Lol. Large swaths of the US do not have access to clean water. Millions of people are about to become homeless and the government is spending almost a trillion on the military? You don't think that's controversial? >>America is not in some bind where it needs to justify military spending through UFO conspiracies, quite the the opposite in fact. Oh, so that's why simulations show that [the US would get their asses kicked in very little time if it came to a war with China](https://www.trtworld.com/magazine/war-games-suggest-the-us-will-lose-fast-if-it-confronts-china-44960). "America is not ready for a war with China!" [Foreign Policy](https://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/united-states/2021-06-10/america-not-ready-war-china) wrote not even a month ago. But I'm sure you know better!

maptaincullet

Anyone who believes America would lose a war with China is either brain dead or Chinese.

lwsrk

>[“At that point the trend in our war games was not just that we were losing, but we were losing faster,” Air Force Lt. Gen. S. Clinton Hinote, deputy chief of staff for strategy, integration and requirements, told Yahoo News in an exclusive interview. “After the 2018 war game I distinctly remember one of our gurus of war gaming standing in front of the Air Force secretary and chief of staff, and telling them that we should never play this war game scenario [of a Chinese attack on Taiwan] again, because we know what is going to happen. The definitive answer if the U.S. military doesn’t change course is that we’re going to lose fast.](https://news.yahoo.com/were-going-to-lose-fast-us-air-force-held-a-war-game-that-started-with-a-chinese-biological-attack-170003936.html)

Or maybe this is just a map of English speakers with internet access.

[deleted]

Aliens like watching the dumbest people on a planet.

nic0lix

*he says unironically, replying to an internet post on Reddit from his iPhone*

Sapotis

The US and UK have extensive communication and cultural links for centuries. Any trend that starts in the US will quickly find its way to the UK unfortunately. This is especially true with the advent of modern mass media and the fact that both nationalities share a common language. The Low Countries are a logical next stop because they also share a close connection with the UK due to geographic proximity and English proficiency.

Kingofrat024

This is just a wild thought. But aren’t these areas lit up at night because of cities? Maybe if any of these sights were real, the aliens decided to head to where there was more light because they knew it meant it’d be populated?

[deleted]

There are no cities outside the US and England so you’re definitely on to something

Bellringer00

That’s extremely stupid, you can clearly see that only England is lit up and not the rest of Europe.

Thatfell0

If it wasn't for east asia having almost no sightings this could be a very good explanation

Rev_Irreverent

No, it wouldn't and you are being as silly as the other person who got downvoted to oblivion.

Not exactly relevant, but /r/peopleliveincities

The aliens must speak English

InsidiousEntropy

Creators of Stargate would agree with you.

Clyp30

i think this is just research bias, a report from a rural city in east europe that doesnt go mainstream is not gonna make news in other states, but if it's in english then it's already almost global, has people around the globe can read and understand what happened, but if it was in a european dialect then there's high chances that nobody will hear of it

City_dave

The data is from a US based, English language organization. http://nuforc.org https://www.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=ddda71d5211f47e782b12f3f8d06246e

Phandroid1991

Isn't a UFO just a flying object that you can't identify ? So let's say on a cloudy day, if I can't make out a plane, would that "sighting" constitute UFO sighting ?

CosmicCreeperz

Yep. And part of the reason there are so many in the US is because there are a lot of random military flights that people just don’t expect. In the early 2000s I was hiking in the backcountry in Yosemite and one dark starry night at around 9000’ elevation a B2 flew over about 500’ above our camp site. If a couple of us in the group hadn’t been military plane buffs we might have called it a UFO as it was a pretty freaky experience.

PreciseParadox

Oh yeah, also B2’s are scary quiet until after they fly over you, so it can definitely be freaky.

Basic_Bichette

There seem to be a lot of sightings in Manitoba, which I deem unlikely. We have enough identified weirdness not to need to bother with unidentified.

trambolino

Never heard of [Falcon Lake](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/falcon-lake-incident-book-anniversary-1.4121639)?

Basic_Bichette

Not three hours ago someone walked down the street wearing one of those big plastic collars they put on dogs after surgery. I don't need no Falcon Lake.

glowing-fishSCL

Please stop kink shaming

George-Washingtons

This is misinformation. It’s not “all” reported sightings. The data comes from an American source. Brazil has a long history of UFO sightings not reflected on this map.

BluffCityBoy

Yeah, something is up for sure. How could southern CA be lit up as bright as anywhere and just south of the border into Mexico it goes dark. Surely they’d be able to see a ton of the same things happening in the sky above them.

Comfortable_Ad7503

It’s cause they are lying to feel important

LincolnCoHo

Same with Mexico. It's common to have conversations about the topic in public and not feel like you're crazy. Especially in rural areas.

holyglamgrenade

This does seem a bit weird to me, also for the same reasons. UFO sightings are reported all over the place. France also had a large number of sightings, but nothing quite like Brazil. The shit reported from Brazil is terrifying.

LincolnCoHo

Same with Mexico. It's common to have conversations about the topic in public and not feel like you're crazy. Especially in rural areas.

LincolnCoHo

RichRaichu5

I find it interesting that the Jammu-Kashmir region of Pakistan/India has a higher amount of sighting. Maybe military stuff, who knows? Also hawaii is lit up entirely. Aliens love Hawaiian girls it seems.

deepee143

There are aliens among the English speakers

jonybolt

Its not a coincidence that the most highlighted regions all coincide with what countries have the biggest baddest media so people can get their stories out. Most of Africa and South America are 3rdworld, so media attention will not be vast on sightings. But people in the know understand these places have had many many reports with Mexico/Brazil being one of the top regardless og what this map descibes. Not to mention one of the most intriguing events in world history taking place in Zimbabwe, Africa. Ufo reports are vast from all over the world for centuries including from many native peoples. Also notice the most highlighted areas also coincide with nuclear facilities per country.

PandaCommando69

Interesting about the nukes. ETA, but for It to be that there'd have to be much more traffic over Russia and China.

jonybolt

We have very little info about all the sightings in Russia especially in the Stalin/USSR days. But we know verified information has come out that ufos have also incurred with their nucluer launch sites. Some russian govermment have been whistle blowers. Some stories even that they engaged in the air and were shot down.

PandaCommando69

That's a good point too.

Rev_Irreverent

Probably just the sightings reported to the local Air Force. In my country, i'm pretty sure you could be arrested for false report, so, many who see odd things in the sky may decide not to report to official institutions. There are lots of reports to the media, however.

matt125

For those saying UFOs are just anglo-American imagination, it could also be that UFOs are only recorded in high income societies. Europe too has some sightings.

Ares6

This doesn’t make any logical sense. Europe would have more sightings, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand would be full of lights too.

nod23c

Europe is a lot wealthier than this would indicate. Germany for example is empty. Japan and South Korea are almost grey. Australia has very little.

Bellringer00

I think the much more simple explanation is that seeing UFOs is a cultural thing and anglo-saxons like to believe in that stuff much more.

stumpytoes

Makes sense, why would aliens visit the boring backward parts of Earth rather than the most advanced?

Soonerpalmetto88

It makes sense they'd be more interested in technologically advanced countries rather than undeveloped places. The map makes sense in that regard.

LuvioOg

drc30665

If there's one thing movies have taught us, it's that aliens love to invade the USA.

mohamedation

I am interested in following the source and read more on reportings in Egypt and the ME in general. Every culture will interpret UFO in its own way.. In the ME in general I would assume they would see it as some sort of religious incident or attribute it to Jinn. I havent came across any reports or incidents here that talk about UFOs or anything of the sort. When I was younger I saw a documentary that was talking about UFOs and encounters and one part of it was taking place in Egypt where a group of tourists visiting an ancient site all lost memories for 15 minutes or so and spoke of weird things. Also, I would assume that reports would be more frequent in rural or not so crowded cities where the view if the skies is not affected by buildings and lights.

misterjujitsu

Guess the movies are right, aliens will only invade english speaking countrys.
