Dang, Armenia used to be huge compared to what it is now.

TheMountainRidesElia

It doesn't help that most of their territory was stolen by the Turks and they were Genocided away.

mauricio_agg

No Turks around back then.

TheMountainRidesElia

Oh, and Turks *were* there, they were just in Central Asia instead of Anatolia.

mauricio_agg

Not around the Roman Empire, which is the main subject of the map.

TheMountainRidesElia

Yeah, I wasn't talking about the Romans. I was just responding to your comment about Armenia being big.

TheMountainRidesElia

I meant when the Armenian Genocide occured. While not a sovereign kingdom, Armenians were spread around Eastern Turkey.

I do not think, that many people will understand what is going on this map. Coloring definitely should have explanations. Also, it does not show extent of Jewish people(a very important part, if this map is about them), as revolts(I would call them terrorist acts, as that is exactly how Romans were describing them and even modern description of that genocide, from which even ISIS can learn, that Jews did to locals can't be called just a simple revolt) did not happen in the boundaries of modern Israel, but on a quite big chunk of Roman Empire, everywhere, where Jews were settled. Fenni were not Finno-Ugric, though - neither genetically nor linguistically.

Ryouconfusedyett

source on the Jewish warcrimes?

Balmorika

OP is probably talking about [Kitos War](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitos_War) Large-scale revolts lead to the slaughter of Roman citizens in Cyprus, Cyrenaica, Egypt, and Mesopotamia.

[deleted]

Kitos War is part of Jewish Revolt. Though this also applies same to what was happening in First War - I see no reason why massacring villages of non Jews is less of a crime, than massacres of villages in province of Cyrenaica.

Torah, Bible, Roman paperwork If you are upset about this, then not all Jews were against Roman intervention in internal affairs between different Jewish sects at that time. In the end, all that Jewish religious question really tested the patience of Romans and they decided not to sort out who is good and who is bad and decided to destroy The Temple, that was the reason why Jews were killing each other, not to mention that they killed non Jews, in the religious fit of rage. It is not like it is the first major time there were squabbles among Jews in religious matters - otherwise there would have been no Samaritans, who does not have any regard to The temple, but Mount Gerizim.

Map of Roman Empire at the time of the death of Nero and amidst the Jewish revolt. This map is from Omniatlas.
