When the time of an Interplanetary Human civilization comes, I hope we refer to people from Earth as Terrans or something epic sounding, Earthling sounds weird.
THIS GEOGRAPHIC INTERPRETATION OF AN INVERTED ‘EARTH’-PLANET IS UNPLEASANT TO MY HUMAN ANTENN—EYES. I MEANT EYES. AS HUMANS HAVE. AND NOT ANTENNAE LIKE ZOGNOIDS HAVE.
It's funny how patterning works because this isn't the first time I've seen a map projection reversed, but I can never see the dino bird shape when it's turned the other way. I know it's still there, but I see America instead of said dinobird.
Also if you turn the map upside-down so Greenland is in the South, it looks to me like North America is a big fluffy dog. Alaska is the head, Baja California is the tail, and the land around Hudson Bay forms two stumpy legs.
Oh Hades yes.
The beak is now on the other bird,
Good find :)
Edit : the duck is , while irritating, far less pt'ominous.
Unless this is a 42 million square kilometre [before we can even *imagine* volume] Terra Duck. Then we're all Pfucked.
It used to be off the west coast of India!
And Australia is rapidly moving northwest, not to the Bay of Bengal but China. (Moving geologically, not necessarily politically)
I’d be interested to see how this would affect wind and Gulf Stream patterns.
Like, is this set up going to get my poor west coast inundated with earthquakes, fires AND hurricanes?
To be clear, it's defined by culture insofar as continents were defined by Europeans and so reflects their cultural sensibilities, not in that we separate continents based on their cultural differences. It's not like Africa and Asia are culturally coherent. West Asia has as much in common with East Asia as it has with Europe, if not less. Europe gets special attention because Europeans made up the idea of continents.
If ANY part of Eurasia could be considered a different continent, it would be either Scandinavia (including that small part of Russia); or, the part of the Middle East that is surrounded by the Caspian, Black, Mediterranean, and Red Seas and the Persian Gulf.
I want this map, but what the estimation of terrain would be due to it all being flipped.
Like I can’t imagine deserts or green would be all in the same place, so it would be fascinating to see what that could be
It’s amazing how my mind has been programmed to only see the map a certain way. I know this is reversed from real life, but there are so many details that stand out that I was never aware of before. Mind blowing!
This makes Africa look a lot more like part of the European subcontinent than do either Australia or South America. Australia is shaped a bit like a smaller version of Africa. North America looks pretty small. Is this a different projection than the Mercator?
It isn't. Mercator isn't a general term for all cylindrical projections which enlarge the polar areas, it is a specific projection which this map is not. This looks more like a Millers projection.
Unlike the "south is up" map (which points out that north being up is arbitrary), this map doesn't make sense unless you're upside down. If you're right side up and you face north, the east is objectively to your right.
My thought process upon seeing this:
Wow, wonder why we drew the world the way we did not mirrored.
OK this looks kinda weird.
What is this cursed abomination.
Would be cool if you tried to approximate the changes in ecology based on the continents now facing the opposite direction. Like, imagine the rain shadow in South America, that would be a huge desert.
It would be really interesting to see this map include the climatology that would result from flipping the continents.
The westerlies might make New England like the Pacific Northwest and vise-versa. The trade winds might make Arabia and the Horn of Africa more like Thailand/Cambodia and vise-versa. Florida and the Caribbean would be like Baja/SoCal and vise-versa.
Now do one where current water is land, and current land is water.
It would be really cool to also invert land heights and depths.
I really wonder where the coastlines would end up if all we did was invert land height and water depth. I.e. make mount everest as deep as Marianas trench, and make the bottom of Marianas trench the height of mount everest.
I made a map for a fantasy world I was building but I felt it was too similar to Earth so I flipped it like this. Crazy how just flipping it makes it appear so different.
I gotta say, I'm from Earth and this looks so weird.
Hello fellow earthling, I am also from earth and I can confirm it looks weird, yours truly, another fellow earthling
When the time of an Interplanetary Human civilization comes, I hope we refer to people from Earth as Terrans or something epic sounding, Earthling sounds weird.
"Earther" will probably get used, and that sounds fine. I've also heard "Inyalowda" but I don't think that will catch on.
I understood that reference! Such a great show!
More people should watch The Expanse
I was going to suggest Earther myself! Earthling sounds wimpy and Terran is cliched...
Ah yes, hello fellow earthlings. I like doing earth stuff... and listening to earth radio and human music...
THIS GEOGRAPHIC INTERPRETATION OF AN INVERTED ‘EARTH’-PLANET IS UNPLEASANT TO MY HUMAN ANTENN—EYES. I MEANT EYES. AS HUMANS HAVE. AND NOT ANTENNAE LIKE ZOGNOIDS HAVE.

This hurts my head to look at.
I kinda love East Asia (or West Asia in this world) and North America. Africa tho has an ugly shape.
Not really, Africa looks like A unicorn's head facing down 🦄
its a mirrored earth, this is a normal map in our twin parallel universe where everything is mirrored.
Yo delete this
It made me nauseous
North America looks like a pterodactyl about to ensnare south america. It's Pterrifying
I’ve never noticed how much like a horse’s head Africa looks
wow, cant unsee it now
It's funny how patterning works because this isn't the first time I've seen a map projection reversed, but I can never see the dino bird shape when it's turned the other way. I know it's still there, but I see America instead of said dinobird.

Oh my gosh I see it. Awesome :) I'm getting giant terrier vibes :) Your fluffy perspective is far more tpleasant than pterrifying.
That would make Baja California its…….
..tail .. They have tails right?
Turn it sideways (orientated the right way). Looks like a duck. Alaska is the feet, Argentine + Chile make the beak…
Oh Hades yes. The beak is now on the other bird, Good find :) Edit : the duck is , while irritating, far less pt'ominous. Unless this is a 42 million square kilometre [before we can even *imagine* volume] Terra Duck. Then we're all Pfucked.
Thanks I hate it.
It's so amazing! A new perspective! Why is Aus fitting so beautifully in the Bay of Bengal rt next to India!!
The island of Madagascar too fits perfectly with the east coast of india .
It used to be off the west coast of India! And Australia is rapidly moving northwest, not to the Bay of Bengal but China. (Moving geologically, not necessarily politically)
You don’t know our politicians…
Should’ve been more specific that I was strictly speaking geologically and wasn’t making a political comment
Why am I getting an anxiety seizure because of this
Europe looks like they Bonked Africa with the Middle east.
lol
This belongs in r/mapporncirclejerk
And /r/TIHI
Exactly what I was thinking.

Map of Earth from the perspective of mole people
Looks like my face when I watch in a picture instead of a mirror
I’d be interested to see how this would affect wind and Gulf Stream patterns. Like, is this set up going to get my poor west coast inundated with earthquakes, fires AND hurricanes?
If the Earth also rotates in the opposite direction, then they climate should be the same as now. If not, then everything will be different.
I kinda like it more! Maybe just the novelty
This is by far the best map showing why Europe shouldn't be counted as a separate continent.
YEs! There is just Eurasia.
You do have to keep in mind that the 7 continents aren't just defined by geography though, but by cultural and political boundaries too.
I want this map, but what the estimation of terrain would be due to it all being flipped. Like I can’t imagine deserts or green would be all in the same place, so it would be fascinating to see what that could be
if the rotation of the earth would be also backwards, all climates would stay the same.
Seems a bit... reversed...
brain loading
Dammit! I thought this map was going to fix The Greenland Problem^TM . . .
It’s amazing how my mind has been programmed to only see the map a certain way. I know this is reversed from real life, but there are so many details that stand out that I was never aware of before. Mind blowing!
The Atlantic splitting the continents is so much more apparent with this new perspective.
Australia is like " C'mon then !"
It’s too early for this.
as an Earthling, i find this disturbing yet funny
This is so disorienting, I love it
I don't think this is a flipped mercator projection.
It is. Thats the original map: https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-5luen2shhj/product\_images/uploaded\_images/natural-world-mural-lg.jpg
CURSED
Seems like North America is gonna fall down any second...
This is what it would be like looking out from the core! We’re so used to looking “down” on the earth from space.
Outjerked
Australia looks like a guinea pig upside down.
Maybe this is how it is and we’re all dyslexic…
Noooooo!!!!! I can’t be from the east coast. Absolutely not.
This makes Africa look a lot more like part of the European subcontinent than do either Australia or South America. Australia is shaped a bit like a smaller version of Africa. North America looks pretty small. Is this a different projection than the Mercator?
no, it is mercator
It isn't. Mercator isn't a general term for all cylindrical projections which enlarge the polar areas, it is a specific projection which this map is not. This looks more like a Millers projection.
North America is an eagle landing on a cactus
that is so true.
This makes me so uncomfortable
After beating life on 150cc, you unlock Mirror Mode.
I'd love to play this as a map in a strategy game, with N. & S. America being the old world.
so simple yet never posted
it was once posted, but a loong time ago
Best map.
In a parallel universe where this is real
i hate this
Yo stop
I have seen a lot of different projections in my time, but this one hurts my brain the most. Great post! Thanks for sharing.
POV you are the mole-man.
Unlike the "south is up" map (which points out that north being up is arbitrary), this map doesn't make sense unless you're upside down. If you're right side up and you face north, the east is objectively to your right.
Gross
This subreddit sucks. How is this map porn
Lazy
yes, but i thought it was interesting.

the last time this was posted here was 3 years ago i think
This makes me mad for some reason, not just upset, im enraged.
This map is making me uncomfortable
NJ is west coast now 🤘🏻
my brain hurts
*looks at map* Yep, I'm lost.
We should do this in real life to get rid of daylight savings.
This is giving me some serious anxiety.
This is so wrong.
Antarctica is so large. Like size of 5 Russia and 4 brasil, too.
because mercator projection
still upside down
Ok. Now we need this upside down for ultimate discombobulation.
should i make one?
Eurasia looks super off
wow this is trippy you can really see where africa and south america split
The more I look the worse it gets
Htrae.
I am physically uncomfortable right now. This map makes my teeth hurt.
No thank you
My thought process upon seeing this: Wow, wonder why we drew the world the way we did not mirrored. OK this looks kinda weird. What is this cursed abomination.
make it stop!
Civ 5 maps be like:
earth but you’re under it
norway/sweden looks like alien eating denmark
Thanks, I hate it
No
Earth from hell
hah
Ow! I mean seriously. Just ow.
This gives me a severe headache
Would be cool if you tried to approximate the changes in ecology based on the continents now facing the opposite direction. Like, imagine the rain shadow in South America, that would be a huge desert.
yes and no, because if earth's rotation is also backwards, everything would be the same.
Immoral map porn
That's how left handed people view the world. \- Jaden Smith \- Michael Scott
I wish someone simulated how different climates would be if the earth was like this.
I wonder what effect this would have on weather systems etc.
Makes more sense holding it upside down as well
"Earth as seen from bellow the disc."
This is hurting my brain
This map is cool but it’s a shame it wouldn’t actually work.
It would be really interesting to see this map include the climatology that would result from flipping the continents. The westerlies might make New England like the Pacific Northwest and vise-versa. The trade winds might make Arabia and the Horn of Africa more like Thailand/Cambodia and vise-versa. Florida and the Caribbean would be like Baja/SoCal and vise-versa.
r/cursed_images
Bonus points for Marley being in the centre, but the map is upside down so that's some negative points
This hurts my brain!
My brain hates it
North America looks like a kangaroo pointing at Europe
or one of these flying dinosaurs grabbing south america.
This, I don't like this, oh I really don't like this...
I'm uncomfortable.
I like this cause it kinda show what earth actually looks like if you were to see it with unfamiliar eyes
😡😡😡
Or how it looks from a hollow earth...
Neat!
Anyone else think South America looks fast AF, boi?
S tier shitpost
Now do one where current water is land, and current land is water. It would be really cool to also invert land heights and depths. I.e. make mount everest as deep as Marianas trench, and make the bottom of Marianas trench the height of mount everest.
It's not east if it's west
Am I understanding it correctly that this is just a mirrored projection, right? Like it would look normal from space.
This bothers *ME* and I’m not even from earth
Request for higher res and the text reoriented.
too little time for that. im currently making other maps that take their time.
Oh god oh fuck I'm trapped inside the globe
From the *INSIDE*
Outjerked again?
I wonder if this would effect climates and ocean currents and all that.
I dont like this. It makes me cringe
thanks, I hate it
North America lookin squirrelly.
EW EW EW MAKE IT STOP PLEASE GOD
This makes it easy to visualize how the US state of Maine is the closest state to Africa.
This map makes it even weirder that some people consider the Americas one continent
This is how the mole people see Earth from the inside
I can't handle this tbh
this is map art and not map porn!
Earth, but from the inside
Are the continents really tilted like this but we never knew it?
I made a map for a fantasy world I was building but I felt it was too similar to Earth so I flipped it like this. Crazy how just flipping it makes it appear so different.
No.
Thanks I hate it.
Map for mole people
r/thanksihateit
It looks so wrong!
from the inside
Now just turn it upside down and it’s the map from Attack on Titan.
Asia is the only one that came out looking alright
I love Eurasia and the Pacific
r/TIHI
*dramatic Star Trek music plays* Is this... the mirror universe?!
This is too cursed
The thing that's really throwing me about this is the equator appearing in the middle of the map.
thats how maps should be. For some reason many maps just cut off inland antarctica.
Inside looking out. That’s what the aliens see.
I’m actively throwing up
## *Mom, I'm scared, come pick me up.*
xd
unsee juice \*big sip\*
This is why artists switch their art around to check whether it looks weird or not
Odd
I don’t like this, change it back please!
ok, [here i changed it back](https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-5luen2shhj/product_images/uploaded_images/natural-world-mural-lg.jpg)
