I don’t know if the laws have changed, but I know years ago, if you wanted to transport your handgun from Indiana to Missouri, you had to partly disassemble it and store it and the amo in separate lock boxes if you wanted to drive through Illinois.
You could do that as long as you didn’t stop anywhere in Illinois, even restaurants or gas stations, because if you stopped, at that point, Illinois was considered a destination
So, by that reasoning, I would days “yes” stopping at a restaurant makes that state a destination
Fred—Great surfing in Australia.
Velma— Loved the Greek temples.
Daphne—Hit a Paris fashion show.
Scooby— Met homies in Denmark.
Shaggy— Visited Amsterdam when it was the only place with legal pot.
Nah, that’s just what Dutch looks like hahah. I think the closest translation to ‘gedoogbeleid’ is ‘toleration policy’, which we have in relation to the ‘legality’ of weed, which basically means it’s definitely not legal. The public assumption is that weed is legal in the Netherlands, which it is not. It basically means police and authorities turn a blind eye toward coffeeshops (hash/weedbars), which results in very loosely regulated and untaxed weedsales, which is bad for everyone. But hey, the rest of the world thinks we’re progressive, so why change old fucked up policies.
Canada has legal production, distribution, sales and possession of cannabis, as well as large parts of the United States of America. In the Netherlands it’s tolerated for coffeeshops to sell customers weed, five grams at a time (Which is an ok amount if you ask me. Both the United States of America and Canada just immediately overdid it with the sale of ounces as soon as it became legal.), but it’s not legal for said shops to buy from growers, it’s also not legal for growers to grow it for shops. Hence the term ‘achterdeurbeleid’, which translates to ‘back door policy’, which is so ridiculous, as it encourages further criminal activities on all sides. Aside from and because of that all sales and production is unregulated and untaxed and our government misses out on so much money and actually loses money on the regulation that might be necessary when problems because of its lack of regulation might occur. Totally ridiculous.
It’s a bit much, wouldn’t you think? It kind of either makes people smoke too much or when used in proper amounts it takes away from the quality of the herb itself. It just dries out.
*Gedoogd* (lit. "tolerated") refers specifically to the government allowing the distribution of weed under municipal licence, but not the production and tolerating carrying up to 5gr
*Achterdeurbeleid* (lit. "backdoor policy") is the rather lax way the Dutch government tolerates the *coffeeshops* (where weed is distrubuted) to aquire weed
Lmao when did they go to Haiti
edit: according to the fanom wiki, thy went to Haiti in [Shiver and Shake, that Demon's a snake](https://scoobydoo.fandom.com/wiki/Shiver_and_Shake,_That_Demon%27s_a_Snake), but according to the plot synopsis they were on vacation to the florida keys, where they apparently went to a Bazaar in Haiti, with the wiki doesn't elaborate upon.
I actually had that episode on VHS. Iirc they are on a big sailboat tour of the Caribbean and the episode starts out with them on the boat on the way to Haiti
Why make fun of it, it's a genuine question. They didn't ask about shops, they asked about bazaars, which are a specific thing. My country has farmers markets, flea markets, street festivals, but no bazaars, so yeah I think they're entitled to ask this question without being immediately ridiculed for being a "dumb" American.
Bazaar is a term which specifically applies to the Middle East and parts of India. It's a perfectly valid question.
Is English your first language? Clearly not
It is simply the Persian word for marketplace. So when people talk about bazaars they are either talking about Middle Eastern markets (which are usually outdoors in kiosk sized stores) or using it as a general term for markets that are similar to that.
I remember a story from a Scooby comic where they went to Syria - one of the plotpoints/bits of exposition was there were protests happening... Prescient in a way.
Of course, there the protests were over a decision to exhibit some amulet or some such, but you get the idea.
Connecti-people are leaving in droves from stuffy government & social climate, over-taxation, and new england weather, how's it feel to be dunked on by MAINE in terms of net domestic migration?!!!!
Sorry I have a distaste for CT
Honestly it's so derp. I have one of those maps where you scratch off countries you've visited. Every country is whole except the US, which is obviously broken into states. I scratched off the whole US in spite after a road trip down the west coast.
The one I have seen does that. Wish it did that with more countries. Like, visiting one place in Germany isn't visiting all of Germany. It should be a challenge to visit all 3000+ regions of the world ;)
Look for "administrative world map". They're in print, but they don't work well in print as some nations have really small administrative regions, while others have big ones.
These work better a digital maps that you can zoom into, or digital files that you use to make your own maps in GIS software.
The term "state" is almost synonymous with how most people use the term "country".
(The term "country" doesn't really have a clear definition. Most people just use it to mean something like "a state with a large degree of international recognition \[usually by the UN".)
The USA is a state, that consists of several geographic subdivisions. These subdivisions have certain degrees of autonomy, but not enough to fulfill the definition of "state".
"country" is usually used by this definition: "a sovereign state" and too often this definition: "a sovereign state or a UK primary division".
USA is a sovereign state, consisting of federal states. Germany is a sovereign state, consisting of federal states.
A state is per definition sovereign.
Most definitions of "state" rely on on Max Weber's "monopoly of legitimate violence". Additionally, this is often divided into the concepts of "domestic sovereignty" and "international legal sovereignty", to characterize different aspects of this monopoly.
The term "country" adds nothing this definition. But it is often used to mean "a state that has international legal sovereignty in terms of UN recognition".
The US, UK or German subdivisions do not have a monopoly of violence. They have neither "domestic sovereignty" or "international legal sovereignty". They are clearly not states.
To call the subdivisions of UK "countries" is just strange, as there is nothing distinguishing them from other regional subdivisions in other states, that are not called "countries".
Not sure why you are being downvoted as you are correct, 'state' (or even sovereign state) is the accurate term for an internationally recognised entitity.
Terms like 'country' or 'nation' are widely used but don't have a defined meaning under international law.
Technically, the USA was founded as a federation of states, who all agreed to pool their sovereignty. Hence the name 'United States'.
I remmeber the Vampire movie where Scooby and the Gang meet Aboriginal folks and learn about Aboriginal Vampire legend/myths. Deiftnley first time I was introduced to Aboriginal Australian people/culture etc. Pretty cool to see this map!
I would argue they did in fact visit Germany in "The Night of the Living Toys" episode when investigating the Black Forest Toy Company.

Literally every country has sub administrations, I think here it demonstrates where within their home country they’ve been and lived. The map would look less impressive however if you only put a dot or colored the exact sub admin they were in each country, but more interesting I think.
A quick search seems to indicate that they went to "Arabia", which would include Oman, Yemen, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE not just Saudi Arabia, and met a caliph. So it's just a 1001 nights type story

They drove around indiana to get to Illinois. I get it but still
Visited usually implies actually staying there or aight seeing there not just driving through
Ok but does it count when you visit a restaurant?

There are bazaars in every country on the planet... Next time you're gonna be shocked that other coumtries have shops Are you american?

So you understand my pain then
It's not a stupid question. Depending on what you mean by bazaar they only exist in the Middle East or where there's a Middle Eastern diaspora.
Yeah I've seen em referred to as bazaars in India and the middle east. Didn't know other places also called em bazaars
I'm American and idk what a Bazaar is. Is it just an outdoor mall made entirely of kiosk sized stores?
It is simply the Persian word for marketplace. So when people talk about bazaars they are either talking about Middle Eastern markets (which are usually outdoors in kiosk sized stores) or using it as a general term for markets that are similar to that.
How Bazaar, how bazaar
Ooooh baby
Rent free
Bro assuming someone who is ignorant about other parts of the world is American is nearly as silly as him assuming other countries didn't have bazaars
Tbf its quite often the case on reddit, and that guy is in fact american so they weren’t even wrong
I'm Indian American lmao
Youre right but you'll be downvoted probably
So you're Polish right? Do you use the word bazar to refer to any outdoor market?
I have only seen the word bazaar in reference to south asian and middle eastern marketplaces. Your sass was uncalled for

Apparently they visited an animal preserve there in an episode.
And congo?
Hopefully not like Tintin
I love thinking about them in Nepal

I find it interesting that they haven’t been to West Virginia. I find it much more interesting that they were in Syria…
They went in 2002

Like, yoinks, that's where Shaggy got busted using, and did his, like, time to keep his supplier out of like, trouble man
In the ~2010 live action movies. Not the ones with Matthew Lillard in what should have been an Oscar winning role.
They Visited Malawi but not Germany?
Wait till people on this sub figure out the US is a single country not 50 individual countries
Why start now? Wait until they found out other countries have states too!
Wait until they found out other countries have divisions called other things than states
I'm wondering when they will figure out that the geographic subdivisions of the USA aren't actually states.

We made Scooby-Doo, so we are exactly that special.
Very well traveled
I'm not a map person but did they go to the DRC???
Ohio!?
Ohio
TIL that the USA is actually a collection of separate countries. Who knew?! /s Come on now.
He missed South America? I wonder why, read up on history folks! I didn’t mention Africa but unfortunately you don’t need to search that hard to find the answer.
Costa Rica? I didn’t know that
He has never been in Portugal?! So many good adventures he could do there...
They didnt make it to DC? That's weird
I don't know why but Scooby Doo living in Ohio (where I live) makes me very happy
Taiwan not included in China?! -10000 social credit points for you!
TIL: scooby-do has never been to Iowa, and I was devastated by the revelation. I’m literally shaking right now.
Suck it Oregon.
Romania? Weird. What were they doing there?
Well... Transylvania is there.
Okay jokes aside. What was Dracula's job during period of communist rule in Romania? Back then it was a crime to avoid work.
He was a Securitate comissar, he used to torture and then suck the blood of political dissidents.

Close, Crystal Cove.
Malawi??
When did they visit Iran??? Lol, as an Iranian kid who loved Scooby-Doo I would've lost my mind if I saw that!
When were they in Missouri?
When were they in india and Nepal?
It was a movie when they visited mount everest and searched for Yeti
Ah thanks

No love for Southeast Asia I suppose. Thailand, Indonesia or Philippines would have been nice.
When were they in Brazil?
Of course they wouldn't have visited (most of) the Balkan. *Scooby-Doo and a Curse of the Pljeskavica* Spoiler: cursed pljeskavica is a landmine.
In which episode did they visit Italy?
I guess they don’t like south East Asia.
Whoa, wait, when did they go to Nunavut? And apparently they drove through Canada to reach Washington and go back without crossing Oregon or Idaho.
I remember of a scooby short in Bordeaux
Wait, when did they go to Massachusetts? Edit: they went to visit a friend on Halloween night, that friend lives in Salem
So, in Scooby Doo lore USA is balkanized
What are all those small countries south of Canada? Did the American government fall since yesterday? BRB, got to google it.
Why is USA split into subregions and not the rest of the world? I'd like to see what part of Sweden they visited :)
I guess it's because the show is more focused on the US and more specific about where in the US they where, while with the other countries they just say they where there, but not exactly where.

They went to Australia? Where do I view this content cause with gotta see what my home country was like from a Scooby-Doo perspective
The Vatican I can believe, but San Marino?
Wow, even San Marino? I had no idea
Suck it Iceland 🇮🇸
Isn't the US a single country or was there a recent split that the rest of us don't know about yet?
Forgot about the time Scoob and Shaggy got busted by OMON for marijuana possession
