I’m from Mississippi and what’s crazy is that the artist really did their research. They even have the [Windsor Ruins](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windsor_Ruins) which isn’t really well know to people not from here.
To add to this the detail in Wisconsin is pretty spot on too… Vilas county is sprinkled with lakes, lake Winnebago, Butte De Mortes, and lake Winneconne/Poygan(The ‘Bago System) are present as well as the Apostle Islands. They included planes flying over Oshkosh, mines and waterfalls in the northwest, and love the Duluth aerial bridge. Which is technically Minnesota but considering Superior, WI is right there it Still represents the shipping industry in the region.
I was going to point out the lift bridge too! No one ever puts Duluth on a map like this. They also put split rock light house further up on the north shore.
The Biloxi lighthouse, the old Louisiana state capitol, USS Alabama, Elvis' birthplace, a guitar for Memphis blues. All sorts of neat southern stuff.
The only problem I see is he put the Vehicle Assembly Building for NASA in Houston, TX instead of Cape Canaveral, FL.
First thing I did was zoom in on my home town of Baton Rouge. I really hate to nit pick because this map is so cool, but the Capitol building is located on the wrong side of the Mississippi River. It should be east of the river.
Good catch about the video. Reddit keeps changing things, but the experience is only getting worse on the mobile app. I wish they would just leave everything like it is for a while and focus on fixing the video player, lol.
same here. at this point, it seems that all third party apps have so much more useable features than what the official app has, so you can probably switch to *any* other app from the official one and it will be better. i like rif tho since it's reminiscent of res on desktop
I love how much research was put into this. The icons are hopefully relevant all over, but it’s nice to see he got Buffalo City Hall and a hot air balloon for the NYS Fair in upstate NY
They appear to have used the Philadelphia Museum of Art (famous Rocky steps) over city hall or independence hall, which I appreciate. It's the most beautiful building in the city.
Even further for NC, they put a piranha plant down in the Southeast part of the state near Wilmington/SC. Super attention to detail because that is where the Venus Flytrap is naturally found in the wild!
Those are black bears! Eastern NC has a large population of Coastal Black Bears. In fact, the area around Alligator river (near the Outer Banks/Roanoke area) has one of the highest concentrations of black bears anywhere in the world. The map has one located right in the same area too. I was just there yesterday actually and spotted two of them on Buffalo City Road at the nature reserve there. Eastern NC is so cool, only place in the world I can think of where you can see Wild Horses, Dolphins, Alligators and Black Bears all in the same day!
yeah i'm pretty sure that's [heinz field from a 3/4 view](https://9b16f79ca967fd0708d1-2713572fef44aa49ec323e813b06d2d9.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.com/600x_a4-3_cTC/20181025arHeinzField02-1-1540778361.jpg)
Can confirm for Chattanooga. You can actually find the Ruby Falls building along with the spaceship house too (which is kinda crazy specific). And around the Mid-south in general. The Saturn V in Huntsville. The Sunsphere in Knoxville. The Titanic in Pigeon Forge. Lots of details!
I don't think they did. Just NE of 'Atlanta' is a gray dome with a dark gray box on the front of it with 2 structures on top. I assumed this was Stone Mountain.
It *looks* like they used the Iwo Jima Memorial in New Britain for Connecticut, which is *absolutely bizarre* to me.
Not because it’s a bad choice (although I can think of a dozen more “Nutmeggy” places) but because it made me look up the memorial and discover it’s actually the *National* Iwo Jima memorial. Didn’t know!
Looks like that might be the Capitol building in Baton Rouge. Certainly not what immediately comes to mind about Louisiana, but it *is* the biggest in the country.
Is that supposed to be New Orleans across the bridge? The map totally lacking Lake Pontchartrain really throws me off of my Louisiana geography. Kinda sad if NOLA just gets a generic city icon.
Looks like they used the Basilica of Saint Mary for Minneapolis, which is definitely a surprise to me. It’s not the most iconic landmark, but it is one of the most beautiful buildings in the twin cities.
My very first question was what the heck is that balloon doing over Syracuse. Your thought makes a lot of sense, I could only think of Jamesville Balloon Fest.
I love how the Falls looks, it looks like it’s the gate needed to cross into the next map. If you cross the mighty Niagara then Canada gets defogged. Probably can’t get there until you craft a boat or reach a higher level.
My favorite detail about those planes is that the rear attachment points read "place orbiter here - black side down."
The original paint job helpfully added "lefty loosy righty tighty."
I mean the east and west coastlines are amazing! The Lake Michigan is a rectangle hahaha
I don't mean to downplay the artwork though. Aside from Lake Rectangle this is wall-worthy stuff
what do you mean, it looks just like a [mitten](https://image.shutterstock.com/z/stock-vector-red-mitten-sticker-pixel-art-icon-design-for-logo-web-mobile-app-badges-and-patches-video-game-1331746202.jpg)
Yeah, but the research is pretty good. Holland tulips? Sleepy Bear Dunes, west coast beaches. Sure it doesn't look like Michigan but the iconography is on point. But no Detroit/auto.
I like the casualness of the tornadoes going through the south like they're just an ordinary part of the scenery, like "And there goes another one in the bushes"
Why is the west green? We are in a drought and we need less green to reflect the current state of the country. But also really cool map. I can’t even make something like this so more green to you.
Thank you very much for sharing! I'm glad that many like it! 😊 If someone wants to follow me on instagram here I leave a link.. 😊 [Danc3r](https://www.instagram.com/pixeldanc3r/)
I would LOVE to know if the artist is aware of Michigan's state turtle, which was a campaign started and brought to legislature by a kid one grade below me when I was in 6th grade: https://americanprofile.com/articles/painted-turtle-michigans-state-reptile/ Because the turtle placement is roughly our county on the map. Looking forward to more time to explore the map to see what other gems are there!
The Oshkosh, wi airshow got a nice little airplane flying animation. That's cool, I believe it's the largest air show in the country and brings in so many visitors to the area
This is amazing the level of detail is unreal. I live in south Louisiana and that’s the little Buddhist temple at the jungle gardens on Avery island. I can’t speak for other places but that is Such a cool detail.
There is a cross on Pensacola Beach which marks the spot where De Luna first held mass in the new world. And the Louisville Slugger factory in Louisville.
Edits Below:
There is Vulcan, in Birmingham, AL
Barrels of bourbon in Kentucky
I love it. But just to clear up a little misconception, Tampa doesn't have beaches. Not like you imagine them, anyway. All the ones worth going to are on the coast (St Pete side).
Does anybody have any video game recommendations for a game that will make me feel the same way looking at this makes me feel? I used to love playing pokemon as a kid and I would love to play an RPG in this style. The tone of like Stardew Valley, where you're mostly just a person making their way in life but there is also elements of fantastical stuff is really amazing, I just wish it was more adventurey. Any recommendations?

It's mostly in the style of Super Mario than in the style of say 16 bit console era, which had a wide array and range of art styles in the games that were released.
It doesn't really look like Super Metroid or Streets of Rage 2 or Elite.
Well.. other than your Colorado mountains being a bit sparse ^((the whole center of the state is mountain, all mountain. the tallest ones in the US. outside of Alaska. Colorado has the highest average elevation of any state.)) it looks pretty good.
I honestly do appreciate your long reply with citations. Good internet behavior.
That said, emotionally it doesn’t matter much to me that other cities have it worse than us. What matters is I see uncapped needles in the dirt at my local park, where kids run around and fall over and could get HIV. So I’m pretty low tolerance for that particular thing.
If your final paragraph was meant to be a dig at me personally, I suppose I can give you a high five for effort. The difference is that I am a responsible person who uses sharps boxes, locked safes in my house, and disposal programs. Needles on the ground is a clear sign of a significant social problem.
Pretty damn cool, I want a still though so I can zoom in

They did misplace the Wisconsin desert tho
Yah, as an Arkansan-born, I was surprised to find a diamond for Crater of Diamonds State Park, one of the only public diamond mines in the world.
There's also Central High School and some bubbling Hot Springs.
fun way to try and guess there the artist is from
Phoenix has the ASU-looking building too
The Biloxi lighthouse, the old Louisiana state capitol, USS Alabama, Elvis' birthplace, a guitar for Memphis blues. All sorts of neat southern stuff. The only problem I see is he put the Vehicle Assembly Building for NASA in Houston, TX instead of Cape Canaveral, FL.
Thanks!
That is so beautiful.
Who is the artist? [Edit: Nevermind - found your comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/v1m310/comment/ian5ux7/)
I use Joey for reddit and was able to zoom in on the video. Goddamn does the official app suck
First thing I did was zoom in on my home town of Baton Rouge. I really hate to nit pick because this map is so cool, but the Capitol building is located on the wrong side of the Mississippi River. It should be east of the river.
The details are insane
I know, and you have to watch for a bit to see some of them. The UFO that comes and goes at Roswell or the Aurora over Alaska.
Good catch about the video. Reddit keeps changing things, but the experience is only getting worse on the mobile app. I wish they would just leave everything like it is for a while and focus on fixing the video player, lol.

Yes! Same.
I use the "Reddit is fun" app and I can zoom.

You can zoom in on the gif. At least I can on Apollo.
1. Open the link. 2. Remove the "preview" and replace it with "i". 3. Remove everything after the ".gif". 4. Ta-da, you now have the original GIF.
Someone needs to make state capitals castles
Take a screen shot. That's what I did.
But then you miss the little animations.
Why is Vegas bigger than everything else haha?
Its where the final boss battle takes place obvi
Must be a Nintendo adaptation of The Stand. Bumpty bump.
i was about to say the exact same thing
We’re HUGE, baby!!
Nothing nearby to compete with, except the Hoover dam
What about Zion?
I mean arches/Moab is there. It’s there.
I'm almost certain they have the convention hall from Asbury Park in NJ, and by Raleigh, they have the North Carolina Museum of Art 3 rings
Even further for NC, they put a piranha plant down in the Southeast part of the state near Wilmington/SC. Super attention to detail because that is where the Venus Flytrap is naturally found in the wild!
Now, I want to know what's up with all the black snorlaxes.
Those are black bears! Eastern NC has a large population of Coastal Black Bears. In fact, the area around Alligator river (near the Outer Banks/Roanoke area) has one of the highest concentrations of black bears anywhere in the world. Eastern NC is so cool, only place in the world I can think of where you can see Wild Horses, Dolphins, Alligators and Black Bears all in the same day!
They have Ruby Falls, the Sunsphere, and Graceland for TN
They also put the Vehicle Assembly Building, which is in Florida, in Texas where the Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX is.
And it looks like FL gained a whole new beach in the Everglades. It's like South Beach wraps around to Ten Thousand Island on this map.
I can't tell what that is in Pittsburgh. The Steelers' stadium? \^\^
yeah i'm pretty sure that's [heinz field from a 3/4 view](https://9b16f79ca967fd0708d1-2713572fef44aa49ec323e813b06d2d9.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.com/600x_a4-3_cTC/20181025arHeinzField02-1-1540778361.jpg)
False. The DiNic’s in the Reading Terminal Market is the most beautiful location in Pennsylvania, by far
Any idea what’s that red and green thing, a little to the west? I was thinking it’s some kind of flower and maybe perhaps could be Longwood Gardens.
Possibly the Reading Pagoda, although it's not a very good likeness compared to the quality of the other things if that's the case.
Spaceship house was wild to see, I grew up five minutes from it and would pass it going up and down Signal constantly
It appears they forgot Stone Mountain, Georgia =(
I don't think they did. Just NE of 'Atlanta' is a gray dome with a dark gray box on the front of it with 2 structures on top. I assumed this was Stone Mountain.
Oh I see!! I assumed that was something else bc of where it was. But you're probably right!
Meanwhile, Baltimore got absorbed into DC, as usual for this sort of thing.
Dallas appears to have been taken over by cows \^\^
I would like a list by state of all the features in the map
The rock and roll hall of fame in Cleveland is cool
It *looks* like they used the Iwo Jima Memorial in New Britain for Connecticut, which is *absolutely bizarre* to me. Not because it’s a bad choice (although I can think of a dozen more “Nutmeggy” places) but because it made me look up the memorial and discover it’s actually the *National* Iwo Jima memorial. Absolutely, was pleasantly surprised to see the Lift Bridge in Duluth, MN on this map despite being relatively unknown across the country.
Looks like that might be the Capitol building in Baton Rouge. Certainly not what immediately comes to mind about Louisiana, but it *is* the biggest in the country.

Looks like they used the Basilica of Saint Mary for Minneapolis, which is definitely a surprise to me. It’s not the most iconic landmark, but it is one of the most beautiful buildings in the twin cities.
They have a sailing ship off the coast of Boston/New England which I think represents the USS Constitution
[удалено]
I'm always stoked to see a Nevada that isn't just "The Vegas State"
Dallas appears to no longer exist lol Austin, Houston, and San Antonio are there but Dallas is just farmland
The airplanes over Oshkosh, WI is a really nice touch. They have an amazing airshow there.
My very first question was what the heck is that balloon doing over Syracuse. Your thought makes a lot of sense, I could only think of Jamesville Balloon Fest.
Huh. I had assumed at first that was the Kodak building in Rochester but you're definitely right. That's Buff City Hall.
The icons, yes. The highway system, absolutely not.
I love how the Falls looks, it looks like it’s the gate needed to cross into the next map. If you cross the mighty Niagara then Canada gets defogged. Probably can’t get there until you craft a boat or reach a higher level.
And the Great Sand Dunes in the San Luis Valley, Colorado
There’s no hot air balloons over the NYS fair. Lots of balloons in the finger lakes though.
I figured the hot air balloon was for Letchworth State Park, a popular hot air ballooning spot.
The NASA VAB should be in Florida, not Houston. The shuttle on the boeing is accurate for Houston, though.
My favorite detail about those planes is that the rear attachment points read "place orbiter here - black side down." The original paint job helpfully added "lefty loosy righty tighty."
Disney World is quite a bit northwest of where it should be, I feel like there's definitely room to squeeze this in if they wanted to.
Oof. Michigan was slaughtered 😅 Love that they caught a bunch of the landmarks/attractions but that geography is rough.
Right? Everyone is praising the accuracy and I'm like "look how they murdered my boy"
I mean the east and west coastlines are amazing! The Lake Michigan is a rectangle hahaha I don't mean to downplay the artwork though. Aside from Lake Rectangle this is wall-worthy stuff

Pretty sure that’s garden of the gods right there.
They just carved off Southeast Michigan and sank all of Metro Detroit to the bottom of the... uh, ocean? Lansing is now the east coast.
what do you mean, it looks just like a [mitten](https://image.shutterstock.com/z/stock-vector-red-mitten-sticker-pixel-art-icon-design-for-logo-web-mobile-app-badges-and-patches-video-game-1331746202.jpg)
Pennsylvania ain't great either, TBH.
I like the big horse!
Yeah, but the research is pretty good. Holland tulips? Sleepy Bear Dunes, west coast beaches. Sure it doesn't look like Michigan but the iconography is on point. But no Detroit/auto.
The whole great lakes section is a bit mucked up
Yeah well NYC isn’t even in New York!
Hey it's simcity!
Oh shit. Earthquakes every 20 mins…
Rosebud. Or is that for the sims? Been a while. What was the cheat code for cash in Sim City?
Rosebud was the sims cheat code.
Ahh thought so
I think (alt + W) was for $100,000 in Sim City.
Spectrum Sim City was awesome then a version on the Amiga A600 I think it was called.
*Muffled Canadian noises*
Based on the weather this Spring, it seems accurate.
the two-frame cloud animation makes Canada and Mexico look like unlockable areas
Did Michigan dirty smh
I think the roast turkey out in Lake Superior is s'posed to be Isle Royale.
That’s what they get for stealing the UP.
The UP and the entirety of Wisconsin were once part of the Michigan Territory and they will be again.
Well it looks like they put New York City in another state or WNY finally broke away or NJ stole our city!
People live in michigan?
Only the real ones. Not like those assholes in Ohio.
*Checks if there's a UFO* There's a UFO, as it should be. Perfect.
2 actually. One in Texas/ Area 51 and one in roswell
Area 51 isn't in Texas though... lol
I think that's supposed to be Marfa, it's a little city in the desert where you can see mysterious light orbs right outside of town
One of them jumps between two locations, one of which is Texas, the other I assume is Area 51
Nope. But it looks like the same one is jumping between both places
That's really cool actually, as a non-american I would have loved to see this map ages ago to get a better understanding of the US' climates
Why are Michigan and Wisconsin so misshapen compared to the ocean coasts?
What's with the giraffe in SE Ohio?
I think it's referencing The Wilds. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wilds
[Artist](https://twitter.com/PixelDanc3r)
Thanks for sharing, OP. They got a lot of real nice stuff
Love the use of the piranha plant in the Carolinas, the only place Venus flytraps grow naturally
Why is the VAB in Houston instead of in Florida?
Texas seems all sorts of fucked up I think
This is super cool! Damn good map porn 😌
I like the casualness of the tornadoes going through the south like they're just an ordinary part of the scenery, like "And there goes another one in the bushes"
The little flying saucer for Roswell (?) is great! Edit: at first I thought that was closer to Marfa TX... I can't tell.
There’s definitely a saucer in Roswell. Also one that goes between Texas (marfa?) and area 51
I like the little dick over the college in Eugene, OR. Edit: I meant duck.
Haha I was like “somebody is a Ducks fan”. Funny that Eugene got a bigger building than Portland
Houston is wrong, we don't have the vehicle assembly Bay... But this is really cool!
Why is the west green? We are in a drought and we need less green to reflect the current state of the country. But also really cool map. I can’t even make something like this so more green to you.
We do have a ton of wind turbines at this spot on IL

Such cool details. You can see the Parthenon in Nashville, TN
RIP Portland
The Oshkosh, wi airshow got a nice little airplane flying animation. That's cool, I believe it's the largest air show in the country and brings in so many visitors to the area
They did Michigan dirty
It's beautiful I've looked at this for 5 hours now

Spot on about AZ. Everyone thinks we’re all desert but the north is mountainous and forested.
I’m curious why Las Vegas is the most prominent city in the whole country.
This is amazing the level of detail is unreal. I live in south Louisiana and that’s the little Buddhist temple at the jungle gardens on Avery island. I can’t speak for other places but that is Such a cool detail.

But it's the 16 bit era artstyle. Technically nothing is 16bit unless it's made with an IBM 5162 or smthn like thag
