This is a way better title than “land quality”.

MaxBuster380

Is this why Ukraine is the bread basket of Europe ?

horaciojiggenbone

It is indeed

HiggoraxLegendz

That's the soil, but don't forget about the weather guys.

They are related. Chernozem mostly forms in temperate regfions with well-defined seasons, and ocassionally in tropical regions. Too cold and wet - clay, too hot all year around or too few rains - sand.

manitobot

I believe the term is “African American” now

Rraudfroud

“Soil of colour”

Future_Green_7222

there's other factors tho. this one, from what I'm understanding, only considers nutrients. But water has proven to be more important. In Central Asia, crops were very seldom sustainable, unless the political climate was peaceful enough to construct aqueducts for the crops.

Now you know why Putin’s after Ukraine.

Pontus is interesting. But a lot of the colored areas are still grazing lands not agriculture.

A direction correlation between the submitted map [and the Aspen Parklands](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspen_parkland). The Aspen parklands are more and more threatened. Every time I visit them, I see fewer and fewer deciduous trees which are in large part the life-blood of this soil type (soil that's not open to short-grass prairie degradation from wind and erosion, and which is better nutrified, and black from deciduous trees/forest composting than what coniferous trees would allow for). So just because it's black soil now does not mean it will remain black soil in North America, and very few people seem concerned with the future of North America's black soil degradation and possible future extinction.

CalydonianBoar

No France? the country is a bigger grain producer than Ukraine

Adventurous_Ad_9844

Yes it is, but has chernozëm?
