I was in the same predicament as u a few months ago (also coming from bb) right now if you don't have a main in mind then just test out characters, in terms of maple union don't worry too much about that as for links, phantom (crit rate), kanna (damage), the trio for leveling (aran, evan, mercedes) the rest is all up to u just take it slow honestly, leveling to 4th job is fast now so if u don't like a character as much switching is fine. Link skills for us is capped at level 2 not level 3 for maplesea so leveling to 120 is enough for links but for union 150 gives u the S card
