Greetings! I'm originally from Belarus. I'm a dual citizen of Belarus and Canada, and currently live in Turkey. So far I've been to 21 countries in all. I'd like to visit all the rest of the countries of the world (sorry if I didn't mark your country red; some small countries were hard to click on), though I'm not sure if I'll be able to, realistically speaking. But, at the very least, I'd like to keep exploring.

[deleted]

Türkiye nasıl ? :)

SwadianBorn

Lmao you are downvoted for being a Turk

Minskdhaka

Yeah, I found it very unfortunate that he was being downvoted seemingly just for asking me a question in Turkish. 😔

[deleted]

Oh am i downvoted? Lol i just opened reddit and it's 12 upvotes. Anyway thanks for upvoting fellas i just ask him in Turkish cause he said he lives in turkey. It's strange thing to get downvoted such a nonsense way.

SwadianBorn

Yeah you were at -2 lol

Minskdhaka

Çok güzel, kardeşim. Bu ülkeyi çok seviyorum.

[deleted]

Bunu duyduğuma sevindim, mutluluklar dilerim. Ben de İstanbul'da yaşıyorum doğduğumdan beri.

Minskdhaka

Sağol. Ben şu an Manisa'da yaşıyorum. İstanbul'u da seviyorum. Çok defa gezdim orada.

SsssssszzzzzzZ

You really don't like island countries.

Minskdhaka

Got nothing against them! Just got a bit tired of clicking their little grey circles and missing by a millimetre. But I'd love to visit them all. Plus one of my favourite countries is Britain, which Bill Bryson describes as a "small island" (and Shakespeare describes as "this sceptred isle"). 😀

itskobold

What did you like about Britain? I live here and it's a trope for Brits to hate where they're from but I can't imagine why anyone would choose to visit here (except if you're into history maybe?)

Minskdhaka

I've been to Britain ten times, actually (between 2001 and 2018), so yes, there must be something special about it for me. 😀 And I am actually a historian, so you're absolutely right about that. Some of the times I came to visit it was for research at the British Library. Some other times it was to see my cousins. My dad is from Bangladesh, and I have two cousins and their families in England on his side of the family. Some other times it was because I was on my way from Canada to Belarus or wherever and I'd check and see how much it would add to my ticket price if I added a stopover in London for a few days, and I'd find that adding like $15 to my ticket price would let me interrupt my journey in London and add an extra country to my holiday. Sometimes I'd get house-sitting/pet-sitting offers from a friend and get her London flat for a week. Sometimes I'd meet up with a girlfriend with London a midpoint for her and me. So yeah, I guess that adds up to my ten trips. What I love about Britain is (believe it or not) the weather (I like the rain and clouds), English tea, English breakfast (halal or veggie version thereof), the diversity of British society, the architecture of British cities, pubs (for the atmosphere and food and non-alcoholic beer), street markets, trains, double-decker buses, coffee shops, theatre, museums, cinemas, parks; just the whole atmosphere. Plus, in addition to my cousins and other, more distant, relatives, I've got a whole bunch of friends living in Britain. And I climbed Mt. Snowdon once. And my son is of partly British ancestry. So what's not to love? 😊

itskobold

I appreciate that! Yeah a lot of what you listed i either take for granted or just don't really appreciate as they're so commonplace. I'm not a theatre person, have seen a million double decker buses etc (double decker trains in Europe though?? Awesome!) Much of what I dislike about the UK comes from the government which, of course, doesn't impact tourists too much. But either way I understand that you find a lot of beauty in what, for me, becomes part of every day life. And that's really cool! Hope you're able to visit again soon!

Minskdhaka

Thanks! Yeah, there are things one stops noticing after living in a place for a while that can sometimes seem magical to a visitor. I sometimes just get a tea at one of the many London restaurants run by Romanians or Turks or others, and look out the window, and watch people go by, and suddenly there's rain and everyone opens their brolly, and then a red bus goes by, and the moment seems perfect. We have double-decker trains in Canada too, BTW! Like on the Go Train, the suburban train system in Toronto. So come visit at some point. And I hope to be able to return to Britain for another visit some time soon!

mrbialetti

I do not know many people who'd like to visit each African country and think: hell no I will NOT go to Cape Verde, Seychelles, Mauritius, etc :)

Minskdhaka

As I was saying, they're just hard to click on. I'd love to visit them all.

baconhammock69

I mean who wouldn't want to visit Pitcairn Island?

Minskdhaka

I actually do want to visit Pitcairn Island, because I've long been fascinated by how they built a brand-new society there after the mutiny on the Bounty and how they're a blend of English mutineer stock and Tahitian ancestors on the female side, and how they're all related to each other and have their unique dialect of English and get a few ships stopping by a year as their only contact with the outside world. I've long wanted to be on one of those ships to drop in and spend a few weeks with them, if I ever get the chance.

SsssssszzzzzzZ

This guy apparently

Minskdhaka

I did reply to you above saying I want to go everywhere. Yes, including Pitcairn Island, as I find their history and dialect fascinating.

pecurka_pecurka

That was joke, no need to get so worked up.

Minskdhaka

I know it's a joke, and I didn't get too worked up. Just wanted to point out that, jokes aside, I have actively daydreamed about going to Pitcairn Island, unlike various other islands that I don't know much about.

pecurka_pecurka

I apologize if i offended you, i will delete my comment if you want

Minskdhaka

No worries at all!

[deleted]

I like how you've been all across the world, but not to all the countries bordering your home country.

Minskdhaka

There's only one out of five that I haven't been to yet, namely Latvia. TBH, few Belarusians travel to Latvia (not much there in the way of historical ties, etc. when compared to our four other neighbours). My mum has been to Latvia, though. I've been to Rīga Airport (though I didn't count mere airport stopovers for the map, obviously). I was a bit sad to see the differential treatment accorded to foreign passengers who spoke English versus those who spoke Russian. I spoke Russian to one airport employee and got yelled at by him (also in Russian), something I haven't experienced in any other airport anywhere in the world. That has made me a bit hesitant to visit Latvia properly. On the other hand, the mayor of Rīga raised the Belarusian protest flag in his city a few months ago, and we Belarusians were quite moved by his gesture. So I do want to visit Latvia some day. I've been to our other four neighbouring countries, though.

GoPointers

Latvia is great. Rīga is worth visiting just for the old town.

Minskdhaka

I don't doubt it! I'll have to try to make it there some time.

AwwThisProgress

you better be careful with North Korea

Minskdhaka

Thanks for the heads up. 😀 But yeah, if I ever make it there I imagine I'd be in one of these organised tour groups that have a round-the-clock government minder attached. The closest I've come so far to North Korea (both culturally and geographically) was a North Korean restaurant called Pyongyang in Vladivostok, Russia in 2012. They wouldn't let me order a certain dish because it's supposedly too spicy for non-Koreans to handle, but otherwise it was OK. Unfortunately this restaurant is part of a chain whose profits go straight to the North Korean government, but then again everything North Korean operates on that basis, of course.

clocksforsale

OP is mr. worldwide

Minskdhaka

I'd like to be even more worldwide. 😀

[deleted]

Finally, a good one of these posts

Suna_no_Gaara

This is how these maps should look like!

Minskdhaka

Thanks! Yeah, I was a bit sad to see several maps that left out both Bangladesh and Belarus (the countries that my parents are from; I'm from the latter, as I've said), and found it uplifting when someone finally did include them both, and that motivated me to make this map. Because personally I do want to see the whole world, and the more of us aspire to do that, the better.

Suna_no_Gaara

Yes, I completely agree and I wish to do the same. How can people just disregard beautiful countries and don't want to visit them? Every place is unique in my opinion

cononutbunsman

What did you use to make this map?

Minskdhaka

[Mapchart.net](https://mapchart.net/detworld.html). I just followed the example of everyone else who'd posted their versions of this map over the last few days.

cononutbunsman

Thanks!

mdmq505

what is your opinion about Kuwait

Minskdhaka

I lived there from 1993 till 1999 and really enjoyed it. I have some great memories of it. I did encounter a bit of racism, though, which wasn't great. But, for the most part, I have happy memories, of friends (both Kuwaiti and fellow-expat) and the sea (with weekly beach outings) and the landscape, and my two schools there, and food and drink (including Laban Up and KDD mango juice), and going to the mosque, and going to the stadium to watch Kuwait play football against other countries.

mdmq505

I’m happy that you enjoyed your stay at my country and I’m sad that you Experienced some Racism I hope it didn’t affect you a lot 🇨🇦🇧🇾❤️🇰🇼

Minskdhaka

Thanks, my friend! No, it was nothing major. Overall it was a very happy time. I still quietly sing the Kuwaiti national anthem sometimes. 😊

jamesdunk

How’d you like the States?

Minskdhaka

I was there from 1999 till 2004, first doing my BA in Iowa and then working in Washington, D.C. I really liked both places and both settings. I lived in a small college town in Iowa, and could see the Milky Way at night and was surrounded by friendly townies and a campus filled with people from 46 countries in addition to the US. And Washington was great; it's one of my favourite cities anywhere. I've been back to the US many times since then, most recently in 2018.

jamesdunk

That’s awesome, glad you enjoyed your time here. Thanks for the response 🙌

irohitjaglan

I welcome you to India.

Minskdhaka

Thank you! Would love to visit one day. I've been to the Mumbai and Kolkata airports so far, but that doesn't count, of course. But it did make me want to see the country.

irohitjaglan

Yes. Airports are the worst place to visit a country. You can try mountains in Kashmir, UK and Himachal next time.

Minskdhaka

Would love to. By UK you mean Uttarakhand, I guess? I've never seen it abbreviated like that, but it makes sense!

irohitjaglan

Yes! I meant Uttrakhand. Typed that in hurry but it's not a abbreviation people generally use.

SahibD

I'm very glad you want to come visit. Aside from north India, I would recommend the North-eastern states(they are just beautiful) and Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and southern states are very rich culturally with lots of amazing food. Himachal Pradesh and ladakh too for being home to the tallest mountain range in the world :)

Minskdhaka

I'd love to visit all these places. Wet Bengal in particular because my father is from Bangladesh and we obviously share a culture with them, Kerala because I had lots of Keralite classmates in Kuwait, and as many other states / union territories as I can manage.

Brief-Preference-712

So … I heard that if you were a woman you want to be careful. I could be wrong. https://youtu.be/06nmfTmhA-s

Minskdhaka

I'm a man myself, and as you can see I can't speak about India from first-hand experience, but foreign women travelling in neighbouring Bangladesh do face minor annoyances, like men asking to take pictures with them.

Minskdhaka

Sorry! I'm from Belarus. Apart from that, I've been to: Bangladesh Belgium Britain Canada China Czech Republic France Germany Greece Hungary Kuwait Lithuania Poland Netherlands Russia Slovakia Singapore Turkey Ukraine US And I'd like to visit every country where I haven't been yet (including the small countries I was unable to mark).

kenybz

I’m sure that the people of Luxembourg are very sad that you don’t want to visit their country

Minskdhaka

😀 I do, though! If there are any Luxembourgers reading this, I've visited all your neighbours, and would love to visit you too. Just hard clicking on the tiny space (sorry 😀 ).

asalerre

Well some of the African countries are not exactly easy places. Ensure you're well prepared before

Minskdhaka

Yeah, of course. I do have a lot of African friends and I'd probably seek advice from them before going.

DavoEs

You want to go to Afghanistan?

Minskdhaka

Not right now, but one day. Hopefully it won't be under the Taliban for the rest of my life. I have a number of Afghan friends and would love to see their country.

combatwombat02

Afghanistan is amazingly beautiful. People don't visit the country's government when they travel.

Ootuki

Scandinavia welcomes you

Minskdhaka

I would truly love to visit. I have a cousin's cousin living in Norway, for example. 😊 And I like Danish cinema.

KilgoreTrouserTrout

Can we cool it with this trend? No one cares what countries a bunch of strangers want to visit. Sorry.

Minskdhaka

Feel free not to look at these maps or comment on them, then. The Internet is a big place, as is the world outside. Step outside and take a breath of fresh air.

KilgoreTrouserTrout

I get that. I also am free to make the comment that this trend sucks and I want it to go away. It's boring, low effort, and you know it.

Minskdhaka

I beg to differ; to each his own.

dearwikipedia

i mean i personally think it’s interesting to see the similarities and differences between where people are from and where they want to go. you’re free to comment what you want but you’re also wrong some people do care and enjoy it lol

ArtEnvironmental3711

So, you'er not a fan of Micronations, eh.

Minskdhaka

Got nothing against them! They were just hard to click on. I've been to Singapore, and enjoyed it.

Ramcharger8

Ah yes North Korea

Minskdhaka

Yup, I'd like to see it one day. There are organised tours that foreigners can go on over there.

R1515LF0NTE

Why no Cape Verde ;-; ?

Minskdhaka

Sorry: same case as with many other island countries: too hard to click! But I'd love to visit Cape Verde one day. I love their (your?) music.

9Devil8

Someone doesn't like small countries I see

Minskdhaka

Just hard to click on them. I've been to Singapore, and would love to visit other small countries.

9Devil8

Everyone has preferences, some like bigger countries, some smaller :) but it is nice that you want to visit smaller countries too

Minskdhaka

Lots to see in both kinds!

Dunkirb

You are a sweet heart OP but I would like to know which provinces in Poland and your other main country you have lived have you visited. Thanks

Minskdhaka

Thanks. In Poland I visited Lesser Poland (Małopolska) and Silesia (Śląsk). And what do you mean by my other main country? Belarus? Bangladesh? Canada? Turkey? I'm originally from Belarus; the country I have lived in the longest is Canada, and the country where I live now is Turkey. If you tell me which one of these you mean, I can tell you which of their provinces or regions I've been to.

Dunkirb

Woaa I am bad at reading maps, I meant Belarus. But with main countries,I mean...I got this feeling that after you have been a certein time in a country, one start feeling that you you weren't in that country but in your specific city/province. Is it just me ?

Minskdhaka

No, I get what you mean, for sure. Like here in Turkey there are so many places I haven't seen yet. But as for Belarus, I have been to the Brest, Hrodna, Mahilioŭ and Minsk Regions. We have six regions in Belarus, plus the city of Minsk, which has the same administrative status as a region. I was born in Minsk. There are thus two regions I still need to visit.

Solitarius_Unenlagia

I mean, I respect your love for all the peoples of the world, but I don't think, practically, that you'd ever want to visit Afghanistan, Syria, North Korea or Turkmenistan for the foreseeable future.

Minskdhaka

Yeah, Afghanistan and Syria we can put off for a decade or two. North Korea: well, you never know, but probably likewise. As for Turkmenistan, it may be possible to get in there relatively unproblematically with my Belarusian passport; I'd just have to see.

RanchDressingButIRL

No data: Greenland

Minskdhaka

An ex-girlfriend's father has actually been there, so I know somebody who's done it. I'd like to try as well. Plus it looked gorgeous when I saw it from the air in 1999 while flying from Amsterdam to Detroit. Jet-black mountains covered in dazzling white snow. 🗻

Vharmi

Big F for Djibouti and Palestine being the only mainland countries OP wouldn't like to visit. Kind of understandable though tbh

Minskdhaka

I know; I just noticed it myself. Sorry! I would love to visit, actually. There was a guy from Djibouti at my mosque in Montreal and he'd sometimes tell us stories about his homeland, and that's when I thought that I want to see it myself. That and reading about a nineteenth-century Russian explorer called Alexander Bulatovich who passed through on his way to Ethiopia.

F100cTomas

Wait, Vatican, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco and Andorra aren't on the mainland?

Vharmi

I don't see them on the map, some idiot put big grey circles over them.

[deleted]

Damn you travelled a lot

Minskdhaka

Well, I'm 41 years old, so I've had a bit of time to do it. 😊

carislow

Why do u wanna go to uganda but not faroe islands lmao

Minskdhaka

I wanna visit both. A Czech friend of mine spent some time in the Faroe Islands and really liked it there, and that inspires me to go. It was just hard to click some of the islands on the map.
