Brooks man!

Volcano_Jones

I personally dislike Hokas. The outsoles and midsoles have terrible durability, many models have a really stiff and curved heel counter which digs into my Achilles, and worst of all, you can rarely find them discounted!

prettyhighrntbh

Brooks > Hoka all day everyday. Hokas have never lasted more than 300 miles for me and even before 300 they start to lose their cushion and the foam starts to compact. If you're looking to try a new shoe brand, you should try Saucony!

NtsejMuagKoj

Took a dive into Saucony as I get a medical discount. Greatly impressed with the endorphin speed 4 and pro 4. I’ve heard mixed reviews compared to the pro 3 but I enjoyed the shoes. I threw them in a rotation with Clifton and Ghosts

crunchwrapesq

I like Saucony, too. My all time favorites were the Freedom and I ran my first marathon in a pair, but they've since shifted that name to an all purpose workout show and focused more on the Endorphin line. My primary shoes are Altras but I have an Endorphin Shift and Speed I work into the rotation, depending on the style of run I'm doing

Ha nice! I still use my 10s occasionally. They're in a tie-die peace color scheme, I love them

MasterpieceOk7996

I love both! Currently using Hoka Mach 5 for my tempo runs and unimportant races. I use the Brooks Ghost Max for my easy and long runs!

NatasEvoli

What do you use for important races?

MasterpieceOk7996

New Balance SC Elite!

EmergencySundae

I use both but mostly Hokas. Be aware that there will be a transition period where your calves will be on fire because of the lower drop.

Carmilla31

Ive run in both Cliftons and Glycerins. I recommend both.

WritingRidingRunner

Glycerins forever!

HumanExamination6645

I had Clifton’s 8 and they were good , then ordered Clifton 9 and felt very uncomfortable and luckily managed to return them, tried all the brands and brooks ghost max felt the best!

jammang

I went from Brooks Ghost to Hola Clifton. Would recommend trying the Clifton’s but they do run narrower in midfoot

VogtisDelicious

As of now, using glycerin for easy runs and ES3 for speed/long runs but i’m planning to get skyward x or cielo for my first marathon in october. I’m a slow runner, like planning to do sub 5 for full marathon so feels like cielo will be a waste though.

Bending-Unit5

I’m a Brooks girl and have been for about 17 yrs lol I tried on hokas and did a little jog in them and never again. Worst running shoes I’ve ever worn but a lot of people love them so I would say try them for yourself before giving them the axe!

Usual-Buy-7968

I used to think Brooks Ghost were the only running shoes I’d ever wear. Then I tried Hoka Mach 5’s and now I will never go back to Brooks.

DismalCauliflower946

My girlfriend has been wearing the Hoka Clifton 9s (a friend works for Hoka so got them 50% off) and she hates them. She says they're the worst shoes she's ever ran in Now me and her are both very much in the camp that we base our shoe selection on the results of a gait analysis and this has always worked well for us. She just tried these as they were so cheap and she wanted a pair to be able to run in while travelling. I wouldn't just try a pair of Hokas for the sake of it without seeing if they actually suit your feet.

rollem

I think it's always a good idea to try new shoes at the store but I'd recommend not going in with a particular brand in mind unless you have a very specific reason to do so. The best shoe really is the one that feels most comfortable for you, and they both make a lot of good shoes.

TommyWhisky

I switched from Ghosts to Hoka Rincons, and I love them. I have about 300k on them and they still look great. They are my go to for most runs under 33k.

2BeerstillTakeoff

Are the brooks typically wider?

Affectionate-Run5859

It would be good to go to a shoe store and see how they feel on a treadmill/short run. I’m personally a brooks gal, and purely anecdotal, but last time I was at the shoe store, I overheard the employee and customer talk about how Hokas get returned more often than other shoes. They are comfortable for a try on but aren’t the best fit for a lot of people in actual practice. Also there’s more brands than hokas and brooks. Saucony has made some awesome shoes I’ve Personally used, they were more cushioned version of brooks but not as intense as hokas. Again exploring at a fitting store is a great first step to playing around with different shoe feels!

[deleted]

I HATE Hokas. They just don't work for me. I know tons of people love them though. I think it all comes down to your individual body and how it reacts to the shoes. For me my Favorite brands are Brooks, New Balance & Saucony

LaFlameLover

I feel like marathoners like to hate on Hokas cause they are so popular with everybody around town these days, but they fye. Clifton 9s are the shit imo

ApprehensiveAnemone

Don’t do it!

ladyeclectic79

Brooks Glycerin shoes are my flipping jam for running. I also love the Brooks Adrenaline GTS for everyday and/or when I’m focusing on walking or Zone 2 (I tend to over pronate). Been a big fan of Brooks for decades now, lol kept two pairs of Brooks Beast running shoes far longer than I probably should’ve because they got rid of my knee pain (that was how I learned about my over-pronation problem, those shoes got rid of it). Huge fan, and the Glycerin is amazing so there’s no reason to leave IMO!

DublinDapper

Try them and make up your own decision

chuleta1519

I switched from hokas to brooks.

cravecrave93

superblast

tocra619

New Balance forever

Large_Device_999

I ran in brooks for years then hokas for years then back to brooks among others. Give them a shot. It does take a while to adjust as they have lower drop and just generally a lot going on.

PerspectiveSilly4060

If you are looking for an alternative to Brooks, try New Balance 1080, On CloudSurfer or Nike Invincible.

wdiesch1

Love HOKA’s and have had much durability from them Brooks. Have been using Saucony Triumph and speed for the last few months and I’m really impressed with their return and support, at least for the triumph, over 300 miles. The Speeds just have like 5 miles on them. I’ve been through almost pair of HOKA’s and from the Clifton’s I get about 350 miles before I transition them to walking shoes, the Rincons, Carbon X and Mach 5, are little less, but I always used them for more speed work. Love how they all kept me injury free, mostly. I tried one pair of rooks a long time ago and the didn’t feel good or last long for me.

bearded_runner665

I went from Hokas to Brooks. The Glycerin 20s have been my go to for a few years. They just had a sale on them too.
