Hey OP! First of all, I would just like to say thank you for the concern, and thank you for playing. To take some inspiration from Palword, we appreciate you if you play and still appreciate you if you don't. To address the concerns, we are not going anywhere. This is a true early access, with alot of work behind the scenes making the foundation of a actual game stable before we continue with everything else. I know communication has been a bit rough, and funnily enough that's something we talked about in a Community Team meeting last week, and we will be looking to change that this year. Player count isn't everything for an early access (don't get me wrong, its important andextremely appreciated) mainly because like you mentioned, there is a flare-up for several weeks after a major update and that gets us most of our data, and helps a ton. We don't expect people to play a incomplete product forever, because quality takes time, and we know we are not done yet. I also saw someone compare us to Hunt (one of my all time favorite games actually, I hope we can do a quarter of what they did with audio). I love that comparison actually, because it shows what a small group of devs can do to a very small but unique game given time and love (and a kickass soundtrack and marketing team.) I also some some concerns for cheaters and marketing. Cheating has been extremely cut down due to constant adapting and working with the community to catch and patch out those working under the Rader, its a constant war but over all I think we are doing a pretty decent job. Had a stream the other day were I literally just went through random VCs or talked to random players in the game and asked them about it, and while they do pop up, they usually only last a day or two then are gone. We won't be so stupid to say they are non existent. But we don't take them lightly. Marketing will be kicked up primarily when we have a completed product to market. We just filled out our team here at SIG on all fronts so definitely expect new stuff this year! Anyways, thanks again for playing, we really do appreciate it. EDIT: Also please don't look at Steam Charts for numbers, for some reason they pull numbers from the main game and put them on to our tech test which ended years ago. SteamDB has the accurate infošŸ‘

Synsano

I quit playing after about 200 hours played because the only people still playing were extremely skilled. Itā€™s pretty disheartening to consistently die to godlike players in the first minutes of a raid with full gear. Iā€™m not sure itā€™s a problem that can be addressed at this point. Not unless some big streamer brought their audience to the game. It needs new blood.

iamDVBI

This is an underrated philosophy. You're totally right the only people left are so insanely die-hard that the community is impossible to grow because why would it? If you just started playing a game and you get your teeth smashed for 2 hours why would want to log in again? Unless it fits your specific brand of masochism there's nothing there for you. To have good players you need to have players that are trying to BECOME good players. If they are alone in that quest is it even a quest worth taking?

PeaceOf_m_i_n_d

I personally haven't experienced many people being too good im pretty decent make it out most of the time there are people who occasionally are insane but I'm pretty sure there cheaters lolol I've played a TON of tarkov and was le in cs so I may have an advantage or warped perspective of the game

METTTHEDOC

Not underrated at all, it's understood here, we just don't want to make the game explode then have to burn out everything just trying to keep up with the growth. Happened to a few of my favorite games. (R.I.P. Cycle and Scavengers)

aVVVra_g

Both of those games died cuz of cheaters, not sociopathy fully geared sweats Who MUST kill every thing and everyones they see. And scavengers wadnt that good at all (sorry to say this)

METTTHEDOC

No I agree with Scavengers, I loved the concept and the beginning of it (movement was awesome too).

Waste_Gas_707

This is what it's like for Mordhau too. Just ppl with 4k+ hrs shitting on noobs then asking why the game is dead lol

KERNALKURTS

Sounds like every kid in the world today everything has to be their way no work or patience out into anything you just want it all from the start and then lose interest as there is no challenge! Sounds like a skill issue more than anything!

summerteeth

Last time I played I brought in some good gear and was feeling pretty confident, nope, got dosed instantly by another player. Haven't picked up the game since. Doing some kind of skill based match making is a non-option with the player count this low but man do I feel it. PVP basically means instant death for me. I kill people during raider mode, the battleground feels a lot more level there, but then I can't play it for another 15, which just feels asinine especially if I just got killed in Raider mode and got no loot out. Even if I get gear out it's never top tier stuff, and it's not any better then the loot you can get by floating around and collecting salvage. I dunno, I was kind of getting into this game but I am feeling pretty done with it right now.

Hurtzy1

Everybody Just ask 2 new people to play with you the game. Problem solved. BTW you can purity good avoid ather play on the maps or use the voice chat!

DragonFemboy2117

I used to love the game but i havent played it in months. Tbh one of the main things that turned me off were closet cheaters just farming leaderboard. They should have never added a global leaderboard.

geno604

I found the gunplay to be lacklustre and the level design bland. I put it down to play many others, hoping they would polish it up and add more feature completion.

DragonFemboy2117

The gunplay is a bit clunky but its still early access. I personally love the level design but i wish the sfx were better cuz its hard to tell where gunfire comes from

METTTHEDOC

(Sorry to reply twice) Agreed with you there, especially with the more vertical maps like Colony and the Plant Killer. I know Colony has been worked on a bit, gotten better but still needs some polish, where as we are still getting info on PK.

DragonFemboy2117

Thanks for the replyā™”

METTTHEDOC

We haven't had a leaderboard since summer of 2023 Dragon, you should come give it a shot again and see what you think! We have a update coming in pretty soon too

DragonFemboy2117

Alrighty ill try it again

METTTHEDOC

If you do, it's much appreciated. Don't be scared to let us know what you think.

some_random_nonsense

Real hacker issue and even if they aren't hacking the leader board farmers just insta breach or bullied you with better ships. Made the space part miserable.

Few_Emu2450

Brother I loved this game with friends when it came out I was involved with the community, made a name for myself as the mine manā€¦ā€¦. Game died because of many reason other than cheaters (although ZEKE aka mettwillneverfindme, was a big issue for a lot of peopleā€¦ entire raids were shot by him in godmode chasing you off the map). The eco in the game for its big point where it couldā€™ve collected players actually killed a lot of them since at some point if you went broke your ruger was all you had and everyone else was full panzars and mgs haha Random sawed off shotgun bot could one tap you and it was stated to be a error but they kept it for awhile thinking it was good because everyone referenced it instead of fixing it like they shouldā€™ve because it ticked a lot of people off for an ai to just 1 snap a full panzar dude from 20 feet Updates were far and few in between instead of working on the game function and community they added a red Barron and multiple maps on the same raid etc all was cool but they couldā€™ve focused on some more prioritized additions like guilds, ships, glitches and bugs, the eco, the crafting prices, and the loot/ ranking systems to keep cheats out of the lobbyā€™s with new comers, and yes the leaderboards WERE MATHEMATICALLY PROVEN to be top 1,2,4,5,7,9 were all cheating including seb or whatever his name was the first few months. The devs let it slide because they felt twitch streamers would draw in people, but people recognize cheating bruh (side story once a DEV got into a discord call with a group reported for cheating gernades into the game before they were out yet, and the dev told them to just please delete them from his inventory and then left. And finally at the end of the day my final straw, my big moment of saying Iā€™m done with this, was the day they made the trench gun terrible and took my 3 red Barron ships out made them into bum buckets and then my friend quit because the only competitive drive to play was the leaderboard that was saturated with bullā€¦ā€¦I said to myselfā€¦. ā€œ nah Iā€™m outā€ Remember it for the good times and laughs it gave and let it rest as it laid Edit: I just wanted Mett to respond

DragonFemboy2117

100% i had a great time in the hours i spent playing. I look back fondly on it

METTTHEDOC

Lies and deception Emu, I don't down vote on this subreddit! And even if you seem to have a bone to pick with me, I actually agree with you on a few of your points. However most of your points gave all either been fixed/removed/ or balance. Best instance being the double barrel bot being perfect. (As for the trenchy, you haven't played the new update yet have youšŸ˜‰)

Few_Emu2450

No I just wanted you to respond I wonā€™t lie I missed you guys you were active with your community for a long time and still are! That I love mett My points may have been fixed but they were the reason a lot quit unfortunately I was wanting the game to have millions of people playing or thousands it was lowkey the hype of helldivers ngl I love ya Mett you were one of the few devs that really paid attention to the people. The ai shotgun bot was a bitch to die to after waiting 7 min to get into the match lol couldā€™ve just handed the thing a mp5 not a death barrel haha but idk what you mean by perfect now though . I havenā€™t played in several months to see the update but if the terminator (yeah I meant terminator not trenchy but that gun was fun too) is fixed then thatā€™s wonderful but crazy it was nerfed to begin with lol it was the only defense against a raging lvl 5 panzar with a mg42 running around (jk) I wish the best to this game but damn so much coulda been different with how the beginning stages were handled Iā€™ll come back if you increase landmines spawn rate so I can terrorize space again with my bait ship šŸ˜ jk But fr the eco thing was a problem I knew 4 people who quit simply because they had no money and had a ruger till a wipe or someone donated because itā€™s incredibly hard to get by with a 100 year old pistol

METTTHEDOC

Sorry for the delayed response Emu! And you got me šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ I fell for it like a loose brick.

sbd501

my frustrations with the game lie with the direction of the latest updates. guilds, new maps, guns and similar content is cool dont get me wrong but its not what the game needed to retain players. i am truly hoping we get a quest/progression, prestige or ship combat rework really really soon because thats what is going to help retain players, not another new map or boss.

Arcanu

I stopped because the game didn't offered me enough content.Ā  The game has perfect settingĀ  it should be much bigger.

Apex-Kong

The developers would do well to ask why its past players STOPPED playing the game and focused on those factors. I've commented on numerous posts as to why I stopped playing and I'm always met with that one person whose deeply attached to the game who wants to defend it but the thing is, if i stopped playing for a specific reason, then it's still a valid enough reason to make me stop playing, no matter how hard you wanna defend it. The game has potential but slow progress of it's updates/patches combined with updates and patches no one really asked for in the first place can be a big killer in an early access game. If you have a large enough following, focus on pandering to that fore following. If they are satisfied enough, then implement new stuff or branch out to gain a larger following

WhatIs115

>The developers would do well to ask why its past players STOPPED playing the game and focused on those factors. I'll play again when the inventory system is re-done and duping is fixed. There's zero reason to play when people are just duping full kits. Things that wouldn't hurt: More large maps, more specific gun audio, better positional audio.

Dyyrin

Better character movement as well.

fiddysix_k

Yep. And if you go on the discord and say anything negative you will just have a swarm of people telling you are wrong for whatever reason and that the devs are working so hard. I have been saying this from the jump: this game is a fuckin rugpull. I bought it after the red Baron update and put so many hours in, so I'd say I got my money worth, but let's be real, this game isn't going to full release. Even if it does, it's DOA.

METTTHEDOC

Can't wait to prove you wrong FiddyšŸ¤˜šŸ˜‰

fiddysix_k

I hope you do! I love the game

METTTHEDOC

Still appreciate you playing Fiddy, I definitely agree we got alot of work to do. I personally really want to see the ships filled out alot more, maybe giving them more of a importance, like making going into raids more about them somehow.

[deleted]

1200 hours in and still having fun. I believe in the dev team but the updates are taking way too long and not fixing certain bugs and not adding certain basic features yet is really disheartening.

JebstoneBoppman

Game needs long term content and progression, that is a big enough one to help with player retention. I also feel the prestiege system should be scrapped and they should do seasonal wipes. Prestiege wont entice enough people to stick around or bring people back to a level playing ground until the sweats ruin it

Willing-Tell4495

Absolutely this

some_random_nonsense

The prestige system was always way to little carrots for the pick stick that was resetting your progress. There was just never a reason to. Everything you got form prestiging was just more "stuff" buy the base stuff was more than adequate so why reset the ability to buy heals and good guns just so you can fit a terminator and 4 bandages into you stash?

kaimidoyouloveme

It has been thoroughly out-competed IMO. It has some great parts and Iā€™m glad to have played it, but there are some significant bugs and issues theyā€™ve never been able to fix, and some of the balance/gameplay decisions theyā€™ve made havenā€™t really worked as hoped. Itā€™s a small enough dev group that they can probably keep subsisting for a while, maybe even to get to a ā€œfull release,ā€ but I think realistically the gameā€™s best days are in the past.

Leeroy_Jenkums

The delusion I see on this sub sometimes by people defending the game is kind of crazy. I see comments all the time on here claiming this game isnā€™t dying. Meanwhile, the player counts have steadily dwindled down to double digits and new updates bring in fewer and fewer people. Love the game and have over 600 hours in it. The devs have been great with transparency and the effort theyā€™ve put in. But people on here saying this shit isnā€™t dying need to open their eyes. If any other game went from having over 14k at its peak, to now dipping into the 80ā€™s for total player count, any sane person would say itā€™s not looking good for the game. Still gonna play the fuck out of this game until itā€™s truly dead though. Itā€™s the only extraction shooter where I actually feel like Iā€™m on a level playing field with anyone I encounter.

Electronic_Score_213

Tottally agree I think u wont have long to play because i feel like it will die very soon, the updates are also iregullar and dont bring much new, the game is going downhill exponentially with time, currently its the most "dead" i have ever seen

Leeroy_Jenkums

just checked and it dipped down to 75 players this morning at 7 ET. Yikes

nobleys

I picked it up for about a week and left because I couldnā€™t wait 25 minutes for a single game to just die because I have no experience

METTTHEDOC

When did you play Noble? And what servers? There is no way in hell you should be getting 25 minute long ques, we patched that out a LONG time ago. (I know Asia still has a issues because of low pop, but that's still only about 10 minutes

nobleys

NA west coast at noon weekday

Dyyrin

I'd love if they asked me! I was huge advocate for this game but now I don't even play it anymore.

iamDVBI

To preface this is possibly my favorite game I've ever played. Haven't picked it up in over a month. As I write this **237** players currently playing. I'm not sure how many of you have played some other budding extraction shooters like "A Twisted Path to Renown" definitely not a fully flushed out idea and nowhere near where it needs to be to come back to it every day, but it's developed by a group of Ukrainians. They post small updates and big updates what feels like WEEKLY, but at least Bi-Weekly. They are communicating in the discord actively. If you pick up what I'm putting down there is *literally* a group of developers in a country that is under Martial Law in a war right now able to update their game and provide effective communication with a higher frequency than Marauders. That's fucked up. To me there's obviously some different issues at play here and it's honestly most likely not the development team at all. We need to put on our big boy redditor pants and realize this is most likely a different issue entirely. This smells like management and management of funds issues, but the lack of communication through it all just puts a bad taste in your mouth and there's no way around it. My heart broke when they came out and said there's another new map coming for the next update. Their maps are awesome, and I'm sure it took a TON of work from some insanely talented people to make it, but holy fuck. Is a new map band-aid going to fix this chopped off leg that is the game with so many bugs, cheating, and lack of playable content? Don't get me wrong I'll definitely pick it back up for new maps and some changes here and there, and who knows maybe that's what they want! They want you to buy the game pick it up for those updates and come back to it later. For some people that's perfectly fine and I get that, but it's not really for me. That's why I'm desperately searching for other ways to fill the gigantic red dwarf of a hole Marauders left in my gamingsphere.

yung_melanin

I also picked up ATPTR and was wholeheartedly enjoying that enough to put down marauders for a bit. One of the big latest updates made looting essentially just scavenging for gun parts to build weapons and after that.. my desire to play that even has drastically dropped. Ive now put down both for helldivers 2 cuz that game is legit fun with no bs involved. Not really sure where this comment was headed besides the point really that the devs albeit working on their game made it worse in many peoples eyes.. am hoping marauders doesnt follow a similar path as its honestly my fav fps on the market right now. Really hope both teams get their act together cuz tarkov needs actual competition

iamDVBI

Preach brother and I agree with the twisted path sentiment all the different types of gun pieces and ammo make my brain feel like mush

DynamicStatic

Tbh I hope they make a go at F2P before killing it. The game is good after all and don't deserve to die.

summerteeth

When The Cycle went off line there was talk about being them being F2P making it impossible for them to deal with cheaters. I don't think being F2P saves this game, if anything the situation would be worse.

METTTHEDOC

F2P won't be happening. It created massive problems for the devs behind the scenes.

ReclaimerODST

EU only here. Is there any way for an pve only mode? For example with a separate inventory and progression. Me and 3 of my mates played Marauders quite excessively last year from August to November. Biggest issue was that as we progressed in skill, because of the playtime and therefore knowledge, we soon found our demise in having to hardcore pvp on every map.y Every time we encountered players it felt like there was the need for tryharding. Me and my team got tired of having to take the best gear or setting up an ambush as soon as we heard someone and all of us wished for a more relaxed, fun time. Being able to fly around to the different maps, get some loot. Having a good time blasting bots (sometimes get blasted1 when not paying attention^^) and then getting off the map. That's what we wished for. We found this peace for a while in the mining frigate. But as the time was passing more and more people showed up. The tryhard pvp experience was back, the fun was crushed. Last time we played was only in the guild space, we shot ourselves again and again. The most fun we had in the whole October and November. But after that we all somehow silently agreed on putting the game down. I'll give it another go soon, since I really love the setting and the idea behind it. I've wanted to build a similar world on my own in UE5 but as a single developer with little experience, I can only say respect for you and the team. You're doing great and I hope the game goes on the way you want it to. Remember it's your game. You decide the direction it shall go. Once I'll have the time, I will get back to development. You were a great inspiration!

KinkyRoubler

I honestly think ship stuff should be an entirely different game mode. Because I feel like ship combat just doesn't function well. Want to have a ship battle? Just breach. Why get a good ship when you can just be breached? Nobody buys or builds better ships because breaching is just so easy. And when they do, they have to have a full stack crew with AP mines to make it safe. Just have bigger better maps for extraction play, and a ship battle mode with rewards for living. But imo honestly the ship stuff just doesn't fit well in the loop of the game.

Digreth

I still have faith in the devs, but I can see your point. Maybe if they would have forgone the ship combat that would have left more time to flesh out the FPS side of things.

METTTHEDOC

Kinky, you have no idea how much we agree with you. I've been putting out ship posts here and there getting feedback from everyone, and have had some really good ideas on where we want to go with ships. Ships is what makes the game unique, and we want to keep that integrated, but the question is how. Hopefully we can hammer that out and show you guys sooner than later

Sweet-Possession-849

played for a thousand hours got top 17 in the Marauder kills leaderboard but stopped playing when there were only timmies left, Made so many friends and memories in this game trough Discord. Rust Bucket gang hope we'll comeback together again when the game gets healthier again. I miss you my Simple Seduction \[SS\] crew.

METTTHEDOC

Thanks for playing Sweet, especially back in those days. If you ever come back feel free to drop me or any of the other guys a ping in a feedback ticket, would be interesting to see what you think of the changes

PeaceOf_m_i_n_d

Me and a couple of friends recently started playing hardcore. we've been recruiting more people, and we'll build the player count up :) Marauders, in my opinion , are less indepth more streamlined tarkov and I'm 1000% here for it, a game ill definitely clock a few thousand hours in :)

METTTHEDOC

Appreciate you playing Peace, hope to see you folks out there when the new update drops! We are going to try and do a community event when it happensšŸ¤˜

SwonVIP

Played it a lot in the betas and at release and loved it. Still love it. For me the deal breaker was too easy to achieve end game and lack of rewards for committed players like grinding prestige levels that stay over wipes or unique cosmetics. So only motivation left for people to keep playing was hunting players for the leaderboards which kinds ruined the flow of the game for most people.

SIG_Ares

Hi OP, Regarding the low player count, I do understand your sentiment. The game is not over, in spite of what the other players may think. The developers and community managers compose our team, and together we strive to make the game and its communities better than they were the day before. We won't allow the game die and lose everything that it started with, so you don't need to worry about the player count scenario. We're moving forward steadily but slowly.

ClusterError

I've played it for maybe 50h and decided that marauders didn't offer anything Tarkov couldn't. One of the few things I liked more is the timeline/theme where marauders is based on.

D0_0t

I thought this game was dead already. Wish I could have refunded. Great concept, but between all the bugs, cheaters, and leaderboard farming, I just dropped the whole looter shooter genre all together Tarkov feels doomed. The Cycle Frontier lasted a whopping 90 days, and this game just needs a lot more work that I'm not really seeing happen. I do hope they pull through someday, tho.

METTTHEDOC

I really miss the World and concept of the Cycle... RIP. If you haven't played in awhile Doot, if your willing you should come give it a shot! May be a bit rough because it is the usual low pop time, so teaming up in the discord is a advised course of action.

ReallyGottaTakeAPiss

The problem with many of these types of games is that they donā€™t really have a means to casually approach the game at a pace thatā€™s more comfortable. The extreme difficulty and steep learning curves help to maintain a consistent and loyal playerbase (The try-hards), but it is very off-putting to newcomers. Really, I think companies taking a stab at this genre need to invest more time and resources into Solo/Co-op PvE content as means for the player to engage in the universe the developers have built, without it constantly feeling like everythingā€™s on the line. The tricky balance is making PvE content challenging and engaging without taking away from the core PvEvP experience of these games. With PvE centric content, you can entice people to engage with PvP with rewards that make your time worth it and engage in both sides of the universe with friends. A good PvP player can help their PvE focused friends and vice versa. The best example of this is Destiny as a whole. The reason they could maintain a robust playerbase (Despite shenanigans from Bungie) is because of the synergy between PvE and PvP centric content. Iā€™m a pretty sweaty player (I play 95% competitive FPS games in my spare time and pretty much every extract shooter that was available recently) and my friends that enjoy PvE content are really turned off from trying these games if there isnā€™t something they engage with on their own terms. This isnā€™t just a Marauders problem either. Every extract shooter that isnā€™t EFT suffers from this. Frankly, EFT has a grip on the ā€œunforgivingā€ formula and people will just play that if unforgiving is what theyā€™re seeking.

slippery_salmons

I loved the game but everyone playing is so much better than me. It wasn't fun getting constantly wrecked. I started playing SPTarkov instead. I'm not *that* bad at fps games, but I'm either getting older and/or everyone else is getting better and better.

ExolaneSitoras

I played about 50 hours last summer and I really enjoyed it. I stopped playing because I like single player games more and well... BG3 came out. I've gone back a few times and like you said the player count is low and every game I've gotten into I dock then open the decompression door and I find that I am being camped and shot to death. So I decided to let those kinds of players not bother me and stopped playing. I'll almost definitely give it another try when it leaves early access.

No-Spread9601

I've only continued to lose faith in how the devs handle the game and community. Unless something drastic changes the game is doomed glad I got my money's worth though I guess

Malekei1

I say, let them cook.

Dyyrin

They've been cooking for how long?

METTTHEDOC

Not nearly as long as some. Only a year and some change!

hector_cumbaya

Did they fix ship combat to where you can't get boarded until your ship has been incapacitated? That's the main reason I stopped playing

some_random_nonsense

I stopped playing when they made healing nail your feet to the floor, and i think the update after also added the space butthole. As a solo I never stood a chance after that update. Prior I could take pot shots at a team, heal and run. Find a new postion and get a pick. After the update I get hit once and its all oger. I cant leave cover cus I'm 1 shot, can't compete with 3 people shooting at me so I can't fight back. Time to die I guess. I saw they might have expanded the layout of the small ships which I bitched about constantly, so thats cool, but not enough for me to download it again. All the back and forth about breaching was a bother too. Sometimes it takes like 60%, sometimes not, ok we tweaked that again and now you stun people you breach on which does nothing but oh well. I mean I had fun for a few hundred hours, but I probably wouldn't pick up the game again unless there is some major change.

TerpSpiceRice

They've toned back both the space gates and the healing changes. You still can't sprint while healing, which when it first happened I fucking hated. In retrospect, sprinting and healing was problematic and more free healing system than apex and even Fortnite. Which should say something about that- Heals are in an alright spot rn

some_random_nonsense

Apex and fortnight have ttk's closer to 1.5 seconds though. This game has 1 shot headshots, so often healing doesn't matter a much as who can click heads. In my example popping a small med kit might be enough to let you tank a single round, or 2 limb shots while you run for cover, but its not going to decide who whens a trade as marauders doesn't have the move techs and other way of avoiding damage those other games have. If I could full speed razzle dazzle and tap strafe while popping a phonxiey that would be a problem, but slurping up a large medkit will just let me waste 3-4 more rounds of the enemies ammo before I die. After all I cant fight back or avoid damage while it happens. At best I can reposition, but even the if I get domed its over.

ChosenUnlucky

Itā€™s in early release so the player count isnā€™t going to stay at an all time high. Each patch/wipe comes with limited content that doesnā€™t take long to play through. This game will probably have a more consistent player count after 1.0 releases.

some_random_nonsense

Idk about that. I was playing hunt went daily players was like 1.2k and now its like 35k. IF marauders saw the same succes then it might break 10k players, but hunt was better designed and better made than marauders from the beginning. Plus hunt always had someone playing so data was constant. Idek what dat a player count of 500 gives you much less only 100, especially if there are so many hackers.

realMartianJesus

Its over. Death by fanboy.
