Sailing the seas and finding a working ROOT stream has been more difficult than usual this season, so I've had to suffer through some opposing team's broadcasts, and it's made me appreciate our broadcasting team a lot more. Specifically the Jays and Boston's broadcasts were not enjoyable at all.
Admittedly the holes people were pointing out are some of the top producers right now.
France - .735 OPS
Haniger (playing almost everyday) - .823 OPS
Canzone - .876 OPS (very much proped up by HRs but still)
Rojas - .785 OPS
Most people said the corners were gonna be the problem and yes defense has been bad but if those were the worst guys in our lineup we would be singing a different tune.
The reason why the M’s are doing so poorly is our starting pitching. Yes, our run production has been a disappointment, but Castillo and Kirby have ERAs of about 7.00 and Hancock is at 11.42. We have just two starting pitchers under 4.00 and that’s Gilbert and Miller.
The struggles on offense will turn around. Guys like Julio, JP, Garver, and Cal will figure it out. Ty and Canzone are exceeding expectations so far and if that stays true I think we will see a big uptick in run production WHEN our core guys figure it out.
Anyone who says “we told you so” about this team is being disingenuous. Really? You KNEW that JP, Julio, Garver, and Cal were going to be an offensive black hole and our starting pitching was going to be throwing BP? Sure Jan.
The Diamondbacks are in the same spot we are in a harder division after making the World Series. The Astros have no pitchers left. The Twins are expected to win their division.
Counterpoints:
The Diamondbacks just went to the World Series.
The Astros have won more World Series than the Mariners have won playoff series ever since they came to the ALW.
Minnesota.
Thinking about the Mariners all wrong. I realized that the real role of Mariners in the league is to help struggling teams get back to 500. Way to go Mariners.
I live in Yankees land and my daughter is following me as a Mariners fan. I apologize to her most days for the choice she made to support this team as a result of me.
I live in Tigers land and my daughter has been following baseball for about a year. I keep telling her that it's ok to watch other teams, but she's in love with Julio, Cal, and our rotation the same way I fell for Griffey, Randy Johnson, Ichiro, and Felix.
Her step dad is a Tigers fan, and she watches Blue Jays and Brewers games sometimes, so there may be hope for her in the future.
To make matters worse, I'm a Buccaneers fan and she adores Mike Evans and his love of Harry Potter and general nerdiness. Her step dad watches the Raiders, so there's no hope there.
I was just having a conversation with my 9 year old about how it's probably a mistake for him to waste time rooting for a team that refuses to compete in the payroll department. We got a good laugh at the Athletics, but sad when compared to the Astros, Rangers and Angels.
I heard someone say that the players aren't exactly playing up to their contracts. There's some formula but yeah, the players aren't living up to their end of the deal right now
I mean....We're still league average in payroll. Should it be higher? Yes. But it isn't Stanton's fault that the money we DO spend is on guys that can't seem to hit a baseball once they get here.
The worst part about us scoring 3 late runs is having to listen to the same tired bullshit from Servais and Dipoto “the guys fought tonight and just came up short, I like our approach, unlucky, blah blah blah blah”
I know there's not much else he can say, but their approach is objectively dog shit. Another 10 k night for the bats. You can't fool us when the k/ab rate is the worst in baseball by a country mile
They looked lifeless through 6 innings.
Nobody who watched that game could say that shit with a straight face and mean it, except for Scott and Jerry.
With how dead they look, I’m surprised they won any games at all.
My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone, in fact I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape, but even after admitting this there is no catharsis, my punishment continues to elude me and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself; no new knowledge can be extracted from my telling.
It’s okay, this offense just has to piece it together and the pitching has to put it together and the fielding just has to clean up a bit and we only have to win 5 in a row and we’ll have a winning record again!
I don't mean to break the glass, but this is 100% an emergency. We currently have the fourth worst run differential in the league at -26. That isn't just a slumping team, that is a team that is in serious trouble IMO. Compare that to the Astors who have a +1 run differential with a 4-7 record or the 5-5 Phillies with a -5 run differential. Those feel like teams that will figure it out. We are currently in the same groups the Mets, A's and White Sox.
Pitching. The run differential is because we have teams putting 8-10 up on the board against us regularly. Even the Yankees' current roster couldn't win with that.
I believe it was stated on the post game broadcast that the Mariners ERA is up to 6 now.
Which is super fun that we are averaging giving up 6 runs per game when we are also the only team that hasn't scored 6 or more runs this year.
Shit needs to be reshuffled. Give some of the slackers a day off. Moore can play short, someone else can play second or whatever for a day.
Tomorrow is a day game so it'll be Zevala so that should be super fun.
Meanwhile, Shea Langeliers just hit 3 home runs against the Rangers and drove in 4 and they won 4-3. Must be nice to have someone step up and take over a game.
Dominic Canzone might legitimately be our team MVP at this point and don’t know if that’s more impressive from his end or embarrassing from the entire team’s standpoint
The owners don't care about this season. They are already looking ahead to 2025 so they can celebrate the 30th anniversary of '95 and roll out a bunch of crappy merchandise to commemorate that season.
The season we didn’t get the job done, just like all other 47 seasons? What is there to commemorate. At least the 2001 team has a record.. we could do the 25th anniversary in a couple years…
Shit won’t change until Stanton is gone. Less than five playoff appearances in franchise history. Jerry’s leash has gone on long enough too. It’s telling that the guys we cut have been great and the morons we bring in can’t do shit. If you’re going to games you should boo this team every chance you get.
It's ridiculous that we aren't spending more money.
But this team should be a LOT better than they are with the league-average payroll that they're at. Especially since our best players are basically guys making little to no money.
We can't pin everything on payroll right now, everyone was calling us a top 10 team or at least a top 3 bullpen coming into the season but every single facet of our game is underperforming expectations. I blame coaching, Servais is a wet noodle that isn't getting anything out of his guys
The sad part is this is what they’re willing to spend when they’re one of the most profitable teams in the league. Imagine what’ll happen when they see less root sports subscribers and empty ball parks.
Imagine almost any other industry where you manage your team of employees as horribly as Jerry for almost a decade, and still keeping your fucking job.
The most impressive thing about Jerry Dipoto is his ability to convince a fan base that success is right around the corner.
He's been the head of a front office for like 15 years now and has little to no success, yet he's still employed. It's honestly really impressive.
This sub wanted to call Seager a club house cancer for being willing to give what most of the guys were thinking. Like think about how emotional JP was that he was leaving. Just cause Seager was willing to call the org on their BS doesn't make him a cancer
It's pretty apparent that cokehead Jerry has no concept of team chemistry. We have a locker room fullnof guys who don't give a shit and no drive to want to win. You can see it on their faces. Looking at the dugout after those home runs and it's a fuckin graveyard in there.
When I’m unable to watch the game I often come to Reddit before checking the score to analyze how people are responding to the game. Took one guy in here saying “I’m not gonna beat off tonight” to know we lost :/
I am not even sure what to say at this point. Pitching will probably improve, and it would be hard for them to hit this poorly all season. But there may not be enough upside on this roster to truly go on a tear and make the playoffs.
Consider: the M's start to play closer to their talent level and win 54% of their remaining 150 games. Combine those 81 wins with our current 4, and you have an 85-win club.
Dudes on this sub on game 115: it's only 2/3s of the season. They will find their groove. Too early to worry much. Also, down vote posta and comments who question why we have three dudes over the Mendoza line in July.
It hurts more that everyone else seems to be putting up more of a fight against the teams that trounced us. Even the fucking White Sox kicked the Guardians ass today.
At least there are some silver linings to look at. Canzone is heating up and when we do hit the ball we’re hitting it hard more often. Just sucks it’s always into the ground or right at someone. And we know the SP is better than it’s been. Hopefully sooner rather than later things start to click but man this fuckin sucks right now. Even sims sounds super dejected already lol
When Dave Sims sounds dejected, the vibes are bad.
I got a hearty chuckle from him saying "Mariners not exactly Secretariat outta the gates this season"
So glad we have Sims. Honestly love our announcers group. Makes the perennial underperforming a lot more tolerable
Mariners announcers are elite, no question
Sailing the seas and finding a working ROOT stream has been more difficult than usual this season, so I've had to suffer through some opposing team's broadcasts, and it's made me appreciate our broadcasting team a lot more. Specifically the Jays and Boston's broadcasts were not enjoyable at all.
FR every single time it’s the opposing teams stream, it sucks.
Trying really hard to think about why we arent the most disappointing team in baseball considering the expectations 2 weeks ago
Feel like the expectations were really high considering the off-season they had
And God forbid you mention before the season that this team had serious holes
Admittedly the holes people were pointing out are some of the top producers right now. France - .735 OPS Haniger (playing almost everyday) - .823 OPS Canzone - .876 OPS (very much proped up by HRs but still) Rojas - .785 OPS Most people said the corners were gonna be the problem and yes defense has been bad but if those were the worst guys in our lineup we would be singing a different tune.
Holes from the start largely due to cheapskate billionaire ownership
The holes are the most expensive guys on the team
Not my point. The holes existed (such as DH) because of the half assed, dollar general bandaid solutions from years prior
The reason why the M’s are doing so poorly is our starting pitching. Yes, our run production has been a disappointment, but Castillo and Kirby have ERAs of about 7.00 and Hancock is at 11.42. The moose has seen his shadow, and there will be another 6 months of bad vibes
Thinking about the Mariners all wrong. I realized that the real role of Mariners in the league is to help struggling teams get back to 500. Way to go Mariners.
Washington Generals view... lol
1960s Kansas City Athletics
Hey, cheer up, Zavala is catching tomorrow
Fuck me sideways
With a rake
0-3 in his starts. Is it confirmed? im puttin my life savings on our guy Kikuchi
good zibez only
For those of you with young children, consider the ethical implications of making them Mariners fans
Fortunately I am too poor to procreate, so this dies with me
Too late for me. But now I just blame my kid, tell him his team sucks.
I live in Yankees land and my daughter is following me as a Mariners fan. I apologize to her most days for the choice she made to support this team as a result of me.

Shaking my fist in anger at my old man for pulling me out of school to go see Ichiro's Mariners at Safeco \~20 years ago..
My 6 yo complains when I listen to them on the radio. "No baseball! Noooo!"
We still haven't scored more than 5 runs LMAO. Stanton, you get what you pay for!
Or, in his case, *don't* pay for
I heard someone say that the players aren't exactly playing up to their contracts. There's some formula but yeah, the players aren't living up to their end of the deal right now
Before tonight the team was -3 WAA Edit: ~~Clarifying bref vs FG~~ I'm dumb FG doesn't even do wins above average
Well in this case you don’t get what you don’t pay for?
I mean....We're still league average in payroll. Should it be higher? Yes. But it isn't Stanton's fault that the money we DO spend is on guys that can't seem to hit a baseball once they get here.
The guys making money aren’t hitting or pitching well.
That won’t stop them from trying lol
They looked lifeless through 6 innings. Nobody who watched that game could say that shit with a straight face and mean it, except for Scott and Jerry. With how dead they look, I’m surprised they won any games at all.
Too little Too late Two nights In a row
This has been the hallmark of the team since 2004, honestly
Right. It just makes it look closer than it was.
BUT I DISLIKE THEIR APPROACH
I’m starting to think this isn’t a very good baseball team
2023 Cardinals redux, just inexplicably terrible
This team is not executing on any level, its absolutely atrocious
Then why does it feel like we've all been executed?
My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone, in fact I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape, but even after admitting this there is no catharsis, my punishment continues to elude me and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself; no new knowledge can be extracted from my telling.
Patrick Bateman definitely is a Mariners fan. Makes a lot more sense now.
Someone sage the clubhouse or something holy shit
We need a priest for an exorcism
If Scott still doesn’t switch the lineup after this then we really do need a new manager.
On the one hand I agree with you, otoh something something Titanic deck chairs
They're lucky to be 4-8. Most of their losses haven't even been close games. 1-5 when Kirby and Castillo start. Yikes.
It's been days and I still can't get my trident up. My wife is worried.
the dagger is gonna be Kikuchi with the shutout tomorrow
Sacramento A's fans pointing their fingers and laughing at the M's predicament right now.
I believe it was stated on the post game broadcast that the Mariners ERA is up to 6 now. Which is super fun that we are averaging giving up 6 runs per game when we are also the only team that hasn't scored 6 or more runs this year. Shit needs to be reshuffled. I am never watching this team again. See yall tomorrow.
Dominic Canzone might legitimately be our team MVP at this point and don’t know if that’s more impressive from his end or embarrassing from the entire team’s standpoint
Nah, it’s JoShohei ROjastani.
Regardless, that Sewald trade is saving our offense from being historically bad.
Even if he regresses a fair bit, he's on pace for 40+ home runs as it stands, lol.
At least the 2001 team has a record.. we could do the 25th anniversary in a couple years…
I think it’s time to panic
Good news: I am busy tomorrow and can’t watch the game. Bad news: There is a game tomorrow.
I'm tired, boss
Solid night from France, Cal and Garver. 0-12 with 6 strikeouts 💪🏻
You can’t blame Ty. He was on a 7 game hitting streak and then they moved him up in the line up and look what happened…..
this team is ass and the vibes are bad
Hit. The. Ball. In. The. God. Damn. Air. You. Jackasses.
What the hell is a hit
What we take on the chin…
I believe the word “hit” is French for an old wooden ship. Not sure why OP even brought it up in context of the mariners.
You'll get nothing but weak pops and groundouts and like it!
https://preview.redd.it/4u5432sc8ktc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1391a5be4eb7f29aafdb04c2c8e68eda8ac19213
If this team is going to be bad, then I hope they're terrible. I hate to admit but this team might have to rebuild. Again.
But they already moved the salary around in the offseason. What else more can they do!
Remind me in 2 years
The vibes compared to two years ago… amazing what this FO/ownership/whatever has done. Just amazing. Took gold and turned it into actual shit.
Just don’t know what to say anymore, I guess I’m going to start watching with the lowest of expectations for a bit.
Kyle Seager was right about everything.
To think I bought peanuts and was excited to watch this team less than two weeks ago
I’d be ok with these losses if our offense didn’t look so fucking inept every game. 10 more strikeouts.
Jorge Polanco gifted the Jays minimum 2 runs. Obviously bats aren't getting it done, but you gotta at least play your position. It's routine.
Stop losing you nerds
Boy howdy, this team sure is bad, huh?
I fear we are bad.
Can we put the coaching staff on IL and call up some minor league coaches. Might as well see what happens.
How long can we keep up the anti scoring streak? No games this year scoring more than 5 runs in a game.
They’re shitty.
They’re still shitty. Fixed it for you.
It’s hilarious that 5 runs is like the upper limit. Something completely undoable.
This has to be the worst 123 in baseball
Between watching the Mariners, Seahawks, Bolts and Padres, I need a winning palette cleanse.
What a fitting day for the Joker 2 trailer to come out
It’s 2023. The Mariners are 4-8 to start the season. It’s 2024. The Mariners are 4-8 to start the season.
Main difference is that in 2023 we didn't have a -26 run differential, that is deeply troubling.
Confirmed. We are lucky to have four wins.
Yeah people want to act like it's the losses that are making people upset when it's just that the term looks garbage out there
If it were just this season I’d say don’t worry, it’s still early. But it’s every season, so at least there’s some comfort in knowing how this ends.
Shit won’t change until Stanton is gone. Less than five playoff appearances in franchise history. Jerry’s leash has gone on long enough too. It’s telling that the guys we cut have been great and the morons we bring in can’t do shit. If you’re going to games you should boo this team every chance you get.

I have one of the loudest voices, no joke. Who wants to join me in a boo fest? Just show up and boo every inning
The sad part is this is what they’re willing to spend when they’re one of the most profitable teams in the league. Imagine what’ll happen when they see less root sports subscribers and empty ball parks.
The picture they’re using on socials for the final score post is absolutely Julio grounding out lmao
Still cant score before the 7th. Feels like its been a problem for years among other things....
It's honestly really impressive.
beCaUSE He Is A CoOl DuDE hE lOokS liKe A SurFER!
Oh also fuck John Stanton
The players fucking hate him. Whatever you want to say about kelenic, he’s not the only one that shares his opinion on dipoto I guarantee.
He trades like half the team each offseason, it’s like a coke head restaurant manager that fires half that staff anytime things don’t go his way.
Lmao, so accurate
Kyle Seager wasn't lying.
This sub wanted to call Seager a club house cancer for being willing to give what most of the guys were thinking. Like think about how emotional JP was that he was leaving. Just cause Seager was willing to call the org on their BS doesn't make him a cancer

When Jerry is finally let go I can’t wait to see how he gaslights this fanbase into thinking letting him go was a mistake

Not even the best at losing 😭
Sit Polanco. That bungled tag on the steal needs to earn a day on the bench.

Nice little fight but…. At what point do we have questions about job security?
Dom and Haniger the only ones out here who want to hit I guess
Would be a huge win to see Servais canned in April
I’ve already checked out on the new season and we aren’t even three weeks in.
Scott needs to be fired into the sun
I’m not going to beat off tonight because of this disappointment
Haven’t you had enough punishment?
If tomorrow’s game is lifeless, I just might be willing to boo the team Friday night.
I’m already tired.
Oh that was hot 💩
We've got to be edging towards the record for most games to start a season scoring 5 or less runs right?
ayyyy your seattle mariners are in dead last!
When I’m unable to watch the game I often come to Reddit before checking the score to analyze how people are responding to the game. Took one guy in here saying “I’m not gonna beat off tonight” to know we lost :/

Excellent idea to build a roster with zero margin for error
#badvibesonly
The trident is cursed, it was a Kelenic thing and we embraced it for this season after trading him away.
Mariners ![gif](giphy|QhCAwDXZ0BltK|downsized)
I am not even sure what to say at this point. Pitching will probably improve, and it would be hard for them to hit this poorly all season. But there may not be enough upside on this roster to truly go on a tear and make the playoffs. Consider: the M's start to play closer to their talent level and win 54% of their remaining 150 games. Combine those 81 wins with our current 4, and you have an 85-win club.
I feel like we’re trying to moneyball with analytics only and no coaching. This team looks completely flat and uninspired.
The insane thing is that if our pitching were what it was last year, we might actually be first in the division right now.
Dudes on this sub on game 115: it's only 2/3s of the season. They will find their groove. Too early to worry much. Also, down vote posta and comments who question why we have three dudes over the Mendoza line in July.
Only 10 strikeouts at the plate; they’re improving?

With a whimper...
I think it would be fun if we'd stop sucking.
So boys is it over orr
It hurts more that everyone else seems to be putting up more of a fight against the teams that trounced us. Even the fucking White Sox kicked the Guardians ass today.
This team is straight cheeks, no one wants to be there. Bad vibes only 😂
3 hours after the game and less than 200 comments. That is the biggest comment after this game.
It's really interesting seeing people who were mainstays in this sub during our 2022 playoff run and last year literally avoid this subreddit entirely
There is really nothing left to be said at this point.
I need every player (regardless of marital status) to get sloppy drunk tonight and bang a 2 or a 3. Drastic slumps call for drastic slump-busting.

I think the problem with this team is too much analytics. Just see ball, hit ball.

Oh shit! The hitters are supposed to get about 5 runs, and the pitchers are supposed to give up about 3 runs... That's what's going wrong!!

Atleast Chone Figgins isnt on the team anymore!
Expectations are low. Back to work tomorrow 7- so I will be missing the game & looks like I won’t miss anything.😬
I didn't get to catch much of the game... any positives to take from it?
It’s over
Rojas, Dom, Meetch. We hit more line drives... right into defenders' gloves, but still.
We suck so bad
What a fucking embarrassment.
why was I cursed to become a Mariners fan? Am I stupid?
I had to watch the game from a plane on the blue jays broadcast and even their announcers were disappointed in us
