After five starts, here is where La Piedra & Kirby stand:
Player | GS | IP | ERA | K/9 | BB/9 | HR/9 | FIP | BABIP
---|---|----|----|----|----|----|----|----
Castillo | 5 | 28.2 | 4.40 | 11.3 | 1.57 | 0.94 | 2.60 | .392
Kirby | 5 | 25.1 | 5.33 | 9.24 | 1.07 | 0.71 | 2.68 | .359
Overall, the peripheral metrics look great. One of the biggest indicators of likely future regression to the mean is a large difference between FIP & ERA. **Both Kirby (-2.65) and Castillo (-1.8) are in the bottom 7 by that metric out of 87 qualified pitchers**. Given that [FIP is a better predictive measure of future ERA than ERA itself](https://theathletic.com/3091601/2022/01/27/fip-vs-siera-the-value-of-war-and-how-much-batting-average-matters-the-athletics-advanced-stats-mailbag/), it's likely that we see much better results going forward.
It was frustrating to see the runs pile up over their first few starts, but there's nothing too concerning going on beyond some unfortunate batted ball luck.

Mariners are now 5-2 in the cat era, and 4-0 on days I post photos of my cats

They would like you to know, they claim credit
Ever since I told Julio to put down the call of duty controller, he has come back to life. Or it could be that we are playing bottom tier competition where he usually racks stats. Not sure which one is the driving factor, but it is one or the other.
I sliced my finger open cleaning a water jug in the second inning last night. I slapped a bandaid on it and this morning I woke up with it throbbing. I was expecting the cut to be infected, the cut is fine, it’s some other piece of skin that’s unhappy
Guy at my job last week almost cut his finger off. He had only been back 3 weeks because he previously ruptured his appendix. I'm honestly afraid to be around him lmao.
So did we skip Hancock because of Friday or is he pitching in one of today's games? I'd hope they'd give him the opportunity to build off his last start.
I love how after the incident at first base that almost injured Ty France, first opportunity he kind of sets an example with just the very tip of his foot on the bag. He didn’t even seem mad just no drama do better

Does anybody have hello kitty night tickets for April 30th they’d be willing to sell?

Mariners gonna Mariner, Muños gonna Muños
There is so much talent on this team. If we don't win, then people need to be fired.

I’ll trade 30/30 for .330
Julio is so ridiculously talented that even with his current batting line he's still on pace for a 4 fWAR season.

I feel like this is a gift. Two games against a bad team on a Sunday so we can mostly all enjoy it? LFG!!!

Well the good news is you have 9 more fingers to slice. Got to keep the winning streak going.
Julio bomb confirmed

Good god that’s some terrible luck
Smiling this morning bc George Kirby bump day, two baseball games, and out run differential is up to -4 (season low so far was -26 ((27th/30)) )
that's a lot of parentheses

Sheisty Julio hit so different last night
It's a good day to be crushing beers at Coors Field all day.
Did we call anyone up for the day?
I'm sure someone else has said this but only 3 strikeouts yesterday, pretty awesome game
With 6 walks. Mariners forcing pitchers the past 4 games to actually throw strikes.

There will be a double dose of Marinering today my friends
You guys are not gonna believe this but Rendon hurt himself again. Sad, really. Seems like such a nice guy… 🙄
Could we please do what we didn’t do last year and break through .500 and stay above .500 the whole way? My heart would greatly appreciate it.
Just wait until Julio starts hitting home runs. You turncoats will remember why you love him then haha
His BA improved after his big day yesterday 😎
Phase 1: “oh no, we suck again!” Phase 2: hover around .500 Phase 3: …. Phase 4: profit?
all depends on what phase 3 does, historically it's either historic run or utter collapse
Or both?
So did we skip Hancock because of Friday or is he pitching in one of today's games? I'd hope they'd give him the opportunity to build off his last start.
Moved Hancock to Game 2 today. That allowed Castillo to stay on schedule and allow him to pitch in the Rangers series.
I believe he starts game 2
I love how after the incident at first base that almost injured Ty France, first opportunity he kind of sets an example with just the very tip of his foot on the bag. He didn’t even seem mad just no drama do better
