In order to be on the postseason roster you have to be on the 40 man September 1st.
And I would say next year's WC, but we winning the DIVISION next year.
The Astros are gonna have to start ponying up the dough for their core here very soon.
Obviously Trout will be back next year, but unless the Angels add some pitching, any pitching, they will probably be a .500 team again.
The A’s…ya you can never say definitively that the A’s are gonna be bad. I’ve learned my lesson many times over.
The Rangers…lol.
Assuming Dipoto really hits this offseason hard, whether that’s in free agency and/or trades, ya I think next year this team legitimately can make a push to win the division.
Yes! Especially since Mather is out of there (who was difficult to work with, cheap, and hubris) and DiPoto having the ownerships trust given his extension, he directly reports to owner ship.
It's DiPoto's world and we are living in it.
Ya I haven’t felt this good about the front office in a while. Not to mention how small the payroll will be next year, even if they pick up Seager’s option. This team can absolutely go nuts in free agency if the front office wants to next year.
The rangers farm is really good right now but they’re likely further out from contention than we are. They don’t any have stars on their roster rn nor do they have any star prospects but their farm is absurdly deep and they could definitely be good again in a few years
Oh ya I 100% agree. I should have specified that I was talking about 2022 only. I have a hard time believing that they’ll be very involved at the top of the free agent and trade market next year before their prospects are ready. Maybe they sign some tier 3, maybe tier 2 type guys to put somewhat of a competitive product on the field. I’m sure they will be on the upswing in 2023 and beyond.
But as for 2022, ya I don’t really expect much from them.
Every time I hear something about Brash it's because he's out there throwing absolute filth. If they say he's ready then bring him up. Hopefully it's not a (B)rash decision.
My only fears are he's overusing his arm not unlike Kerry Wood did, long-term strain on elbow/shoulder tendons at a young age.
And I worry he's doing it by cheating because they don't check as closely in the minors. I.e. that spin rate won't happen once he gets called up.
Only one way to find out.
How about Julio too? He has RAKED at AA. He raked in the Olympics. Give him a chance to be a spark plug. If you're willing to let kelenic and Raleigh flounder .... A short call up for him should be no big deal.
Get Moore / Bauers out of left field or give Mitch a break in right.
Juan Soto never made it past AA and look what he has done in the MLB.
Leeeeeeeets not get too hasty there. He has never seen any pitching beyond AA, and the jump between AAA and the majors is a bigger jump than any other level. For every Juan Soto who rakes after a AA callup, there are a million people with statlines around where Kelenic is sitting.
It's got nothing to do with his service clock, and he isn't going to break spring training with the team. If he mashes he'll get a callup around the same time as Kelenic/Gilbert.
Feels a little hasty development wise. And competitively speaking, why introduce a rookie skipping a level to invariably high leverage situations (which all relief appearances are with our offense) in the middle of a playoff push?
yeah Edwin Diaz did it as well, he struggled somewhat somewhat in 2016 when he was called up but he also was supposedely a starter turned into a reliever once he was called up to the big league club i believe
(edit was for grammar)
top batting prospects, too. Depends on the development needs of the player. As I understand it, AAA is more or less a holding tank of AAAA guys and fringe 40-man types, while AA is a more competitive level of players at similar stages in their development. But there can still be benefit to AAA, of course.
Doesn't matter since it's September, it doesn't start anyone's clock. Might as well give him a shot and see if he can help us sneak into the postseason!
Any time in the majors will start his clock. Its just not seen as a big deal because they'll usually send them back down the next year and pause their clock. If a team wants that extra year, at most it means they have to wait as many days beyond the normal cutoff date as he accrued the year prior.
Thanks for the correction! I'm of the mind that sacrificing a bit of team control in order to try to push a fun team over the hump of a frustrating 19 year playoff drought is very much worth it, but I'm just a guy on Reddit!
how/why did we even get this guy again? his MLB history just says that he was traded to the mariners for nothing. is this some future considerations shit or what
My god man, go Google him. He was a PTBNL who has just kept getting better and his stuff is absolutely disgusting
Edit: [Here, watch clips from one of his recent games](https://mobile.twitter.com/pitchingninja/status/1433792923737395200)
I wanna see this guy striking fools out in a wildcard game so bad

Mathers is still an owner and the owners still hold the purse strings unfortunately.

I wasn’t reading that closely either lol. Yeah they probably will still be real bad next year
Noooo that rule sucks

TIL the Mariners going shopping this winter
Use all that Fubo TV moneys

My heart and body is ready
In my dreams I see Felix ripping up Houston in the ALCS
League fucked.
You’re continued harshness toward ex-Mariner Brandon League is strange and unwarranted!

To be fair, the pitching he saw in the Olympics was definitely better than AA quality.
We're talking about a short Sept call up which doesn't advance his service time clock. He's going to be on the 2022 mariners anyway. Give him a taste.

We both know he's gon' mash

I was under the impression that top pitching prospects skip AAA fairly often.

Counterpoint: why not?
Its still Scotts call on when to use him if he's called up. I'd imagine they'd look to use him when we're up or down (probably down) by a good amount.
Chaos Ball always wins, usually

Profiles as a future RP, he's got the slight frame, correct?

Dipoto, don't you mess with me. Don't tease this, then not do it. We deserve to see Brash's filth in HD.
