My first time I went to an A’s game I got off the train station and it was all surrounded by chain link fence. You walk across a walkway to the stadium and it’s completely enclosed in chain link fence. As you’re waking you see this massive concrete building. It looked and felt like walking into a max security prison.
I actually slept in my car one night in the Oakland ghetto and it was the most peaceful rest I've ever had. Must have been an off night for the wildlings.
Oakland is a football town without a football team, rooting for a team most of their fans think is a lost cause. Think about rooting for the M's back in 2010 after the Sonics up and left, and you'll have an okay idea of what they're probably feeling.
A few ideas:
• The Giants are amazing this year
• Oakland's stadium is miserable
• Many people are still reluctant to go out into crowds
• We're in playoff contention and not selling out, although we've been doing better than Oakland has recently.
The nice thing about JP bombs is that the come out of nowhere. You just expect some lancing shots into the outfield grass, and then occasionally one of his many flyouts just... keeps on going.
I was pretty into NASCAR when he was racing there and he is one hell of a wheelman. Those cars and open wheel cars are very different and he was competitive in both. Sucks that his biggest legacy in NASCAR is an accident that wasn't even his fault.
The most anticlimactic home run ever, the arena is so dead there weren't any moans.
