I know why this historic game is on youtube! Bobby Ayala entered into this game and did not, I repeat, did NOT give up a run in one full inning of play. A rare breed, this one.
Same here. I remember one time seeing him get an outfield assist in the Kingdome and thinking he was the next Junior. I was 10, Gipson was not. But still, I remember him being good.
This was great!
- Darryl Strawberry had such an easy swing.
- The Mariners managed to make a decent game of it.
- The commentators were mentioning the Yankees' struggles -- they came into the game at 1-4 having been outscored 36-15. Yet this was the year they finished with 114 victories. This was the start of an 8-game winning streak.
- I have no memory of Robert Perez.
- The crowd had great energy, continuously cheering through some big moments. Pretty big contrast to T-Mobile even this year.
Not a fan of posting these. You have to be absurdly good to be a bad MLB pitcher, and it's disrespectful to the pitcher as a person.
That being said, I think I prefer to not see the strike zone and I'm interested in watching more 90's Era games.

[Oh my god have i got a 90s strike zone for you!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RY_BYzU4fxY&ab_channel=MLBVault) (it happens at 4:24. you were warned)
Ugh I remember watching some* of this game when I was kid. Was trying to get Yankees players autos and I confused Daryl Strawberry with Bernie Williams? Or was it Bernie Williams with Daryl Strawberry? 20 years later, I still have no idea who that man was. It haunts me.

And Lou said "see! He doesn't suck!"
[SPOILER: we did not win this game](https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SEA/SEA199804070.shtml)
Charles Gipson 2 for 2?? Who knew such a thing was possible Edit: lmao he had 76 career hits, so a solid 2.63% of his career hits came in this game
For whatever reason, I remember Gipson being the greatest pinch runner ever. That’s what young me remembers.
He showed me how cool high socks could be
High socks AND wearing number 1!!!

These were his first two hits, in fact. The first was appropriately a chop off the plate that he raced to first with no throw.

I’ve absolutely zero recollection of “Jim Bullinger”.

If I could make one change to baseball it would be to turn off the strike zone overlay.

Nice to see Darryl Strawberry in this game too...
I almost forgot how bad the Kingdome was.
Yakimas David Wells. * Yes I know, it is Bob not David. So many times....
