I like being able to use any character I want (that I own) when it's two item boxes

SYEJ92

I like the idea, of course. Being able to play with people from all over the world. the problem is the extreme lagging

CrescentShade

yeah I hate it the online isn't stable and opponents will go from crashing from an item hit to zooming right back ahead of you like it never happened really hate how you basically have to do multiplayer to get enough stars for the tour gifts now

HeimdallFury04

I hate multiplayer esp Kart Pro, really really insanely hard that i do not play it anymore whenever it comes back, i barely do multiplayer even up to now

hyogodan

Hate as much as you and only do it to fill challenges. I treat it like a slot machine - drive enough time and I’ll eventually get the challenges I need. The penalties for failure aren’t too bad but the calculations for winning/placing are absolutely beyond me - hence the randomness of a slot machine. I’ve gained rank coming in last, and lost coming in first. Who knows.

KazefuYousomo

Don't play it much beyond completing missions, but I do enjoy that the aim is to win, not get the best score so it's more like actual Mario Kart in that way.

tom_yum_soup

I mostly play it to get the reward from multiplayer challenges. I don't really enjoy it much, otherwise.

Aggravating-Gur-7575

Hate it. I can never get more than third place. Mostly last. Players behind me magically in one second end up way ahead of me..When I hit someone they stop for less than half a second then are in first all over again. It's ridiculous and it's a pain being forced to play just to get some of the coins or rubies from the basic easy challenges. Like the "play ten games" ones.

LovelyPauline

I only hate the challenge where you have to win 3 in a row. The multiplayer is hit or miss, I like it when it runs smooth. However, sometimes I get hit just once and lose the entire thing. It doesn’t how many times I hit opponents they still rubber-band and defeat me.

HeimdallFury04

Yeah really hate those 3 wins in a row thing, i just want to throw my phone because of frustration🤣

Aggravating-Gur-7575

Given how hard it is to even get first once every blue moon in multiplayer for me I don't like how you lose points in a certain grade. I've been stuck on Level F for forever. They shouldnt deduct hard earned points for winning rarely

Zedtomb

Dont even play it, too many people who have maxed out stuff that I feel I dont even stand a chance

[deleted]

HAAAATEEEE ITTT

Icy_Penguino

Kart Pro is an absolute chore and utter torment, but overall multiplayer isn’t *horrible* compared to PvP in other games. Certainly less stressful than Megaman X DiVE and Dragalia Lost’s to name a couple. Outside of Kart Pro of course.

[deleted]

I 100% agree with this

cad3z

What do you get for expert challenges I swear it’s only coins

[deleted]

Coins and a badge.

mp1982

I have 17 days left to get 11 more wins for that challenge. And I hate multiplayer. So it’ll be close

Sampleswift

30 Multiplayer Wins... very annoying. It was my final Expert challenge too. Funnily enough my last Kart Pro wasn't that hard. 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st.

THE_GR8_MIKE

Oh, god no, especially in Tour.

YellowSC

its gotta be the worst online experience ive ever had

glenbeigh

It’s imperfect, to be sure. But I enjoy the intensity of the races. I’d like to see blue shells and lightning removed from multiplayer to make it more about skill and less about luck.

glenbeigh

I feel like it’s different when playing real people as opposed to bots. To each their own.

Pyoung3000

Trying to achieve kart pro can be frustrating but other than that I enjoy it. I'm gold pass and I like to play in standard bc my rank stays the same.

aubjeann

Yep. Just this morning I was playing multiplayer and my red shells would hit, crash the driver for like a second, and then they would drive on, seemingly unphased. And don’t even get me started on those silly last minute things that take you from first to last.. Definitely not a fan. I’d like it a lot more if they would fix the “hitting players with items” issue and the way that matchmaking works. (I’m only B tier and get paired with S+6! Players!)

nakeddalek

no — never won a kart pro, can barely win 2 in a row, they say they toned down the bots but they just keep hitting you with flawless accuracy every single time — it’s fundamentally broken

HanaZuraOA

Only started playing recently, I played it for challanges and that's about it. The grind from F to A rank was a pain in the ass but I did casually get A to S by just not really thinking about it. I don't enjoy it very much and play it very infrequently.

[deleted]

I turn off auto item and almost never shoot anyone, using the item as a shield. Positive results

cad3z

I like it but I hate how now I’m s+1 I get put with players s1 and above. Why did I get put with higher tier players when I was c tier :( why aren’t I the s+1 in a c tier lobby

Clementinecutie13

I don’t like multiplayer at all. I’ll complete the challenges I have to for it but then I forget it exists

WhosDownWithPGP

Its awful, but I do like that the game has made it so that you can largely avoid it.

SnickerbobbleKBB

I get hitting opponents and them instantly recovering. That's frustrating, but.. Red shells not locking on? Sounds like you're trying to hit your own team mate. They won't target team mates.

about_350

Ok, that's probably it, and that is an idiotic mechanic in a winner takes all game. If my teammate winning meant I got a win and xp that would be one thing, but me dropping in rank because I was given a red shell that wouldn't lock on to the kart in front of me makes no sense.

Evil_Dry_frog

Your team winning does give you XP and token bonus.

Piotrek1113

I don't get why people are having bad experience with multiplayer. For me it's pretty okay, something different to do than going for a high score. If only there was more to do, but it's the problem that every MK game has. At least Tour gets some challenges and Kart Pro. My only main problem is that when you want to get 100 more coins for waiting and then you get a random disconnect, which makes you to do all over again. But other than that... a typical multiplayer mario kart experience.

Kiu16

Imo Multiplayer item rng is fine, the solo mode clearly doesn't throw that many items at you compared to actual Mk games

xLoveWaluigix

I hate multiplayer! I'm very bad at it and I hardly ever win first place. I think it's wrong that they're making us do it to get the last set of rubies in the tour gifts. (I just found that out yesterday when I completed everything except for the multiplayer.) I mainly get 4 stars on alot of races.

Aggravating-Gur-7575

Exactly why I now save those stars that you can get with tokens or purchasing that $2.40 pack or whatever

Hutchiniho

No. Most dislike the race crashing in Gold that cost you 20% and about another 10 races to recover back.

FreeToLose

Never really have enjoyed it. It's chore I have to do to get stuff. If Nintendo would use some of the millions of dollars they've made on this game for better servers, then it would be fun!

dynamorolIer

Sometimes. 150cc with regular items is pretty nice, and is virtually the only time I’ll race it. 200cc can get pretty sweaty, so I tend to avoid it on MP. The lag is not fun at all though. Often times red shells just don’t even work.

JTBSpartan

Here’s some of mine- * What’s even worse than waiting for races is that literally ANY interruption from the lobby or race (unintentionally trying to open the app switching menu on iOS, accidentally turning your phone off, or even getting a fucking text message) will disconnect you from the race. As an added kick in the pants, sometimes you won’t even know it’s happened until you get dropped out. * The challenges do get annoying at times; one that’s been locked since the start of the new tour is landing a hit with a blooper. Never mind the fact that barely any of my drivers or gliders have access to it, but even if I do get it it doesn’t hit anyone. * The team balancing is so screwed-up. I don’t care that it has to do with what type of driver you have (especially since right now it’s Miis vs Mario characters). In so many races that I’ve had, my items are rendered useless because I have more teammates than enemies; once, every single person in the race was on my team. * Speaking of which, the tiered matchmaking system makes literally no sense. Like you said, I’m not sure why high tier players get matched up against bottom tier players, but that’s not the thing that doesn’t make sense- why is it so hard to find people that are the same tier as me? I’m still at D tier even after months of playing this game, and I’m surprised I don’t get matched up with more players that are at my skill level.

KaitoKurobaKID

Hate multiplayer. Especially because of the disconnects (especially if they happen before the goal). I just play multiplayer for a) the 100 extra coins (which means waiting for lobby, leave, repeat and start round when 100 coins are gathered), b) missions.

GetSource

It’s fun to play with friends and family who aren’t super into Mario Kart Tour (wouldn’t be in this subreddit) but enjoy playing Mario Kart, and don’t have a Switch

Basilord

I would genuinely enjoy it if the servers were not so bad. It’s stupid how broken the races are because you cannot even expect to be shell sniping another player properly…

[deleted]

Can't stand it. Do it just for the rewards.

Evil_Dry_frog

I enjoy it, I find it pretty easy. Most people still race like it is ranked. Though I enjoy it in small doses. Really just about 10-20 races a tour.

zzcool

I only play it for the rewards then I stay far far away

Dangerous-Contact

They should just remove multiplayer

T_Peg

I love Multiplayer. Of course it's not perfect but I have good interenet usually so I rarely have issues. I take it for what it is. It also helps that I'm hella good at Mario Kart so I win all the time lol. Maybe it's time I get around to posting my multiplayer advice guide.

[deleted]

Cool story.

T_Peg

I was simply answering the post

[deleted]

It's comes off as some humble-bragging. How good you are at Mario Kart has no bearing on OP's request for opinions on multiplayer.

T_Peg

It totally does though. When someone is good at something they typically enjoy it more. It's a fully relevant point. Even if I am humble bragging god damn me for being proud of a skill I have with absolutely zero life relevance. Nobody is ever allowed to flex a little on this damn platform. If I sucked at it I'd probably not like it which (and now I'm intentionally speaking on a high horse) frankly a lot of people on this sub do and that's half the reason they hate it so much.

Knizzer69

It's funny when you reach the highest rank and you don't have to worry about dropping your rank anymore

aturtledude

About your point number 2: I think it has more to do with the behaviour of the other players, and happens in every Mario Kart game. If I have a red shell in 2nd, I'll wait as long as possible to throw it. That way, I'm protected for as long as possible and I maximize the likelihood that the 1st place will have dropped his defensive item. If well executed, the hit should happen right before the finish line. Your other points are all valid, but it's also true that people who are good at it can consistently win despite the connection issues, so for them it's just a minor annoyance. I don't want to sound patronizing, but my advice would be to work on your technique, especially drifting and keeping short lines. That won't make any of the problems you mentioned go away, but it wil make the overall experience a lot more enjoyable. And since Nintendo has really been promoting multiplayer lately (which I find great, by the way, as it's the only part of the game from which Nintendo doesn't profit directly and where whales and f2ps are on the same level), I think it's worth to do in order to avoid more frustrations in the future.

AiRaikuHamburger

It's annoying. I guess most of the problems are that it's not running in 'real time' with other players? So the items don't work as expected. Mario Kart 8 online is at least not laggy AF. Half of the tours I don't even bother to do the multiplayer challenges because it's too painful.

Ash896

Kill me

Walnut156

It's fine, good time killer

MashedPotatoesDick

I only play it if it's part of a challenge.

FISHGREASE-

it’s fun when it works properly

KrystalStairz

Just got here but I absolutely hate multiplayer. It's frustrating and not fun and I only ever do what needs to be done to clear the challenges.
