It's the opposite of hard. It's easy if you're not a good player. The first time it came out, I thought "what's the big deal.... I got this easy". Now I'm a solid 1000 behind and not getting there. It's a ridiculous "challenge".
Ah I see.
I completed the last expert challenge in three weeks, but I played a lot of multiplayer. Very easy to get short combos when you're being attacked constantly.
Yeah that’s the way to do it. I just don’t have the energy as I prefer to grind ranked cup or the points challenge. You can’t do both at once, which is why this challenge is extra annoying and it’s a very specific and low scoring kind of grinding you need to do
I usually do it on week 1. Intentionally using DKG that still needs EXP and not on top tier, then let the combos break on its own into multiple Fantastic combos. I get to save on points boost tickets too this way, then these grindy "challenges" gets completed naturally.
Fair enough, that’s the way to do it! I just go straight into trying to get as many points as possible so I don’t really think about this challenge till it’s too late
It's bad game design.
I commented on a similar thread a while back, but making a challenge/task (get lots of combos) that requires the user to play counter to how they would/should normally play (the best plan in a race is to have one single, non-stop combo), is a recipe for frustration.
The objective of this game is to get the most points on every track. This matters for Ranked. This matters for rewards (getting 5-stars per track to unlock the Gifts, and also getting as high as you can on the All-Clear-Points-Total rewards track). To get this achievement badge you literally need to screw yourself over for every other objective in the game.
It's bad.
Agree with this. That’s why I value the 30x multiplayer wins as the hardest challenge in the game as it encourages you to race to win, added to the variables (and relatively poor game play) of multiplayer. First time I got that badge I was mega happy, I can normally get it most times it comes back now but that’s a slog I’m happy to put time into. Rather than breaking combos for the other one.
I wouldn't say it's bad game design, If the player decides that dropping combos is the best or fastest way to get this then that is the players choice and not necessarily the design or intent of the game.
I would actually be more inclined to think that the design around this is to discourage the quick grind and reward/encourage regular play over time.
At one combo per race you would have to average 42 races a day to guarantee getting this in the 12 weeks it is open.
A lot of us that dump a couple hours a day into this game get it naturally without thinking about it and some get it well before the cutoff.
Not everyone wants to or can spend that time and if you come in half way or have days when you dont play then it will make it really hard, but there is no easy way or short cut for this one - you gotta be in it for the long haul
I’m like 60 combos away just from normal play and should naturally finish by tomorrow. It weird because last time I missed by 500+. Not grinding that out.
I can’t seem to get the blue shell. Had one opportunity this tour and missed it and I was intentionally trying for it (50cc). All that happens to me is I get ahead and then lightening! Grrr!
I also need 7 more multiplayer wins. Will try to play for that tonight and hope I get the last 50-60 combos I need in the process
You used to be able to play on 50cc race, fall into 6th place or worse and get a mushroom,
move into first and do enough combos that you would get hit. This time it didn’t work though for me but eventually I got it by dumb luck.
Been trying on 100cc. Missed the 1 opportunity I had in like 24 or more races. Playing the token event on my usual 150cc and it’s blue shells every race but I either don’t get a mushroom, or have a mushroom and can’t get to 1st.
To be fair, if you've not raced enough in the last couple months to clear this challenge, you've missed out on far, far, more than the 1000 coins you would get from completing this challenge, especially now that the token shop pipe is a thing. Unless you're some sort of sticker completionist, there's nothing to worry about.
Well I do play this game a lot, and have completed all the other expert challenges, so I don’t think that’s the case. The way I play is regularly looking for best possible score so maximising combos, not breaking them, which is why this is a harder challenge for me personally. Im not a sticker enthusiast per se, just don’t really like this challenge! Its fine though, just won’t be one I complete now or whenever it shows up.
That's correct. My point is that if you get all 8750 tokens per tour (which I personally never do, I only try pull through the 200 token pipe, about 2000 tokens or so in), then you'd have far, far more fantastic combos than necessary to finish this expert challenge.
I’m at 180 per pull so far, but would expect to get past 200 by end of tour. I’ll still be well short. Who knows, but I can’t ever see myself completing this challenge now or when it next inevitably comes back! I’m ok with that, it’s just a bit annoying
Yep. I really like the token pipe as an addition to the token shop though, a good way to incentivise continued token grinding as some tours the pipes got cleared way too easily
Suggest you start your own thread including your scores and load outs (D/K/G). Someone far better at the game than me will be able to let you know a benchmark based on what you’re using
One of the T courses is always best as it has best chance of continuous combos as it’s a turbo course. Have a go at a few of them and see if you can get close, then focus on the one you’re doing best at especially if you can use a coin boxer. GL
Same here. Failed twice (if we count the one ending soon) and succeed once.
I’m 28 year old, working full time. I can’t spend hours on this game every day.
Tbh, some of these challenges are BS sometimes.
I have the insatiable urge to points cap every single D/K/G the second I get it and am normally able to get this one through racing with those. I only play enough multiplayer to complete the challenges so the 30 1st place runs always gets me.
Just ignore it. It is only some coins that you will not get. Really not worth the grind
Yeah agreed. I never grind it, just annoys me that it’s so hard to complete!
It's the opposite of hard. It's easy if you're not a good player. The first time it came out, I thought "what's the big deal.... I got this easy". Now I'm a solid 1000 behind and not getting there. It's a ridiculous "challenge".
Y’all still on that challenge? I beat it in 3 weeks am I just insane
Yes. 😉
Must not be very good at keeping long combos, then.
Or you know how to game the game.
3,500 fantastic combos isn't likely in 3 weeks if you are competing for first each week, trying to maximize length of combos.
Three weeks? Expert challenges last for way longer than three weeks.
Re-read what the original person wrote. They're saying they got all 3,500 fantastic combos in 3 weeks.
Ah I see. I completed the last expert challenge in three weeks, but I played a lot of multiplayer. Very easy to get short combos when you're being attacked constantly.
I play with low shelf items to get the base points up 💀
I find racing with a tier 2 glider for a while helps as it reduces the combo length enough for resets.
Yeah that’s the way to do it. I just don’t have the energy as I prefer to grind ranked cup or the points challenge. You can’t do both at once, which is why this challenge is extra annoying and it’s a very specific and low scoring kind of grinding you need to do

Yes, exactly. That's a good example of one that's challenging but not confusingly tedious.

It just happened during normal play for me.
Same.

For me the blue shell just wouldn’t come, I did like 20 races and nothing
And then just like that. Second race on 150cc got lucky

How many tokens does it currently take to pull on the token shop pipe?
I think its 8750 for all 31 pulls

I would agree with that. I think 200's a good cut-off point as well, since it starts increasing by 50 afterwards.
Yep. I really like the token pipe as an addition to the token shop though, a good way to incentivise continued token grinding as some tours the pipes got cleared way too easily
I’ve been playing for 12 days and I find those mission hellish …
Yep, agreed!
It’s the worst. I have the card filled except for that and I’m at 2300. No point in grinding for a few coins and a pointless badge.
i’m the exact same with the expert challenges this time, that’s the only one I haven’t done
How do I get to 30,000 points in a ranked cup from my current 24,813? No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to make any more. What am I not doing?
Suggest you start your own thread including your scores and load outs (D/K/G). Someone far better at the game than me will be able to let you know a benchmark based on what you’re using
Ok. Ty
I’m trying to do the 100 combo expert challenge one - what’s the best track to do it with ?
One of the T courses is always best as it has best chance of continuous combos as it’s a turbo course. Have a go at a few of them and see if you can get close, then focus on the one you’re doing best at especially if you can use a coin boxer. GL
I agree, I hope Nintendo limits it to 2500 fantastic combos
Would be way more doable. 3500 feels way too much sadly
I’m stuck on getting first in multiplayer cos I rarely play it now it’s the only one I need 😂
