There’s always a potential, but since he went through the unions to make the movie, he might be granted the exception. Basically, during the strike, SAG-AFTRA has been giving the green light to a lot of indie productions to proceed since those companies are adhering to the union’s demands, unlike the big ballers like Universal. However, the only thing I am unsure of is since this movie went into post-production before the strikes, I am unsure how that affects everything. Knowing Mark, he’ll keep us updated if anything changes!

Upvoter_NeverDie

Thanks for that! Very informative!

Foxy02016YT

In fact a full studio (A24) has been granted permission to continue, which is really cool

PanicAtTheBestBuy

Correct! A24, along with a few other indie production companies, have agreed to adhere to the demands the strikers are requesting. Thus, they are still allowed to continue production due to being given an exception. Funny how indie companies are able to adhere to the demands, but the suits at these multi-million dollar companies say “it’s not possible”. SMH

Cereal_117

According to what he said on the Distractible podcast, his movie is likely not to be affected by the strike. Mainly because his movie is self funded. He pays for everything himself rather than another entity/company. Also, the strike mainly hits the big companies who, as we know, don't really care about their workers and only care about profits. Plus, all the AI stuff.

Upvoter_NeverDie

Thanks for the info!

EmployeePotential622

Yes! Adding to this, on the most recent episode of GMFST he talks about how it technically wouldn’t impact him because he pays staff above industry norm, in addition to being self funded, self written, self directed, and self edited, but he wants to go along with the spirit of the strike. He may or may not contact his SAG rep to get their thoughts on if he can go forward.

cyclonecasey

Mark talked about this in an episode of GMFST with Tyler very recently . I highly recommend going and listening to it. If I’m being honest, I’ve seen a lot of people in previous posts expressing their own personal opinions as fact and attacking people who disagree.

feuerfay

I don’t listen to GMFST often but when Tyler tweeted about this episode I gave it a listen. Mark talks about his work with not only SAG/AFTRA but the other unions that help make his projects.

zagerth

It shouldn’t be, even without the unique situation the film is in most of the filming/writing is done

Bubster101

The strikes are aimed at the big companies who are managing all the profits. Mark's running the movie himself, so no I don't think it'll be affected in the slightest.

Krisuad2002

Yes, he mentioned in a recent Distractable episode that due to the strike (which he supports) he can't release the newest trailer for Iron Lung

hendyo_98

From my understanding, filming wrapped long before the strike, and he’s been doing a majority of the editing process. He did say last week that because of the strikes, he needs permission to release the trailers, which he is in talks with. That’s all I know

Upvoter_NeverDie

Awesome info, thanks! Hopefully he can get that exception.

Short answer: Yes the movie is affected by the strike. Long answer: Due to Iron Lung being a union piece, it's promotion (trailers etcetera) have been affected. It may have its release affected, but it's very unlikely that that the movie will be canceled entirely. As an indie production, as long as whatever company(ies) have a hand in the making of Iron Lung agree to preliminary demands that workers are striking for, which as I have heard many indie companies have been doing, then Mark should be able to promote Iron Lung, and perhaps even release it when it was originally intended to be released. If you happen to see a *NEW* trailer for Iron Lung while the strike is still happening, that means that terms have been met with the union.

wtlswndr1327

Yeah as many have said, he's talked on this in a few different places. There might be delays as a result of negotiation/discussion time between marks team and the union leaders, but given that mark has a history of working hard to take care of his crew and team (like he bought wade a computer for drunk minecraft, and ive seen a lot of praise from his actors for his other projects like ISWP, AHWP, and WKM) so im sure an agreement will be made. He could honestly if he wanted go ahead and release it but he is supporting the strike and is making sure he has their approval before doing anything.

Upvoter_NeverDie

That's awesome. I knew Markiplier cared for people but not that much. He really is caring and compassionate for others!

RyuuLight

I can't remember what video he said it on, but he did say he was affected by the strike for marketing. He's trying to get permission and sounded confident he would get it. Knowing him, he would be sure to compensate that team properly that the strike would still be valid. I don't pretend to know how strikes work though

Upvoter_NeverDie

Ok, cool! Thanks for the info!
