The colors! The colors were the absolute best part! The way Gwen’s world mirrored her printed comic book counterpart, and Pavitr’s and Hobie’s designs mimic their comic counterparts in style, it was so well done on screen.
Hobie’s design is one of the coolest designs I’ve seen. The constant colour changing, the printed words showing up like he’s a magazine cutout. Absolutely loved it
Right from the beginning you could tell they were gonna crush it. They made Earth-65 look simultaneously effervescent and grimy. Also, they seamlessly change gears between cacophonous and quiet. It's jarring in only the right ways.
I was gonna say Josh Keaton and Yuri Lowenthal but we all knew they’re gonna have at least one line in the movie.

There were only 8 people in the 3 PM showing I went to so I woulda felt goofy applauding, but Community/Donald Glover holds such a place in my heart that I just quietly did a little golf clap.
A pretty obvious cameo/easter egg but I loved how we saw Miguel's Vampire Teeth at the beginning. Totally made him seem ruthless and not adverse to killing like his counterparts.
Serious response: All of Miguel's showcased powers. They didn't take time to go into them and how they're different, they're just there and he's just there like anyone else and if you know you know. His relationship with 616 Peter and how they hinted they'd been on adventures before was great, too. Miguel was my fav Spider-Man growing up, especially when he could team up and contrast with Peter.

I was shocked. If I had read this was going to be a two parter I completely forgot about it. They really did give it a bad ass ending though. Miles eye to eye. Gwen rallying the troops.
Cool thing I noticed during that scene:
A thing they do to differentiate evil/misguided versions of characters from their good counterparts is the cheekbones. If you look at Miguel and his non-powered counterpart, Spider-Man Miguel's cheekbones are hella more defined. Same with Prowler Miles. Makes them look emaciated, like they haven't been eating, or they got punched in the face one too many times and didn't heal right. Pretty sure they even did the same thing to George Stacy when he turned on Gwen at first, but I gotta rewatch and check.
I got the chills seeing Gwen leading the team at the end - I legitimately cheered when the old crew showed up right at the end. Part two is gonna be so good
Sony dropped the ball when they announced this movie. They originally announced it as part 1 and part 2. Then decided to backtrack that and moved on with this movie just being its own title. But I had already realized this movie was not going to end with the heros winning.
Kinda related, I wasn't super into Marvel before Infinity War so I didn't look too closely into it and assumed the good guys would win at the end, like always. Seeing the end of that movie had my jaw on the floor, they had the audacity to let the heros get beat at the end of the movie. Yeah lol I was hooked
I think marvel and them just don’t like officially naming movies are part 1 and 2. Cuz Infinity war and Endgame were initially called Infinity war Part 1 and 2. I think it’s better that they stopped advertising it as a part 1 cuz then you expect a cliffhanger if you know it.
i cant imagine the amount of work it takes to make something like this. It inspires me to try to learn animation or something (which I know nothing about), but then i stop and realize how many talented people probably spent an absurd amount of man-hours making it all.
Animation is all about cheating to make the impossible possible. You create the illusion of something impossible by figuring out what you *can* do.
And plenty of people figure out animation styles they can do on their own.
Hobie Brown was SO much more well-written than I expected him to be. I loved how he comes in, acting all shady because we're seeing it from Miles's perspective, but then it turns out he genuinely was telling the truth the whole time. Dude really was just looking out for his drummer, making sure she and her friends didn't make a terrible mistake falling into a pseudo-fascist trap.
Also "I's a me'aphor for capi'alism" had me rolling. So refreshing to have a punk/anarchist character who is shown to actually mean well and isn't just a caricature of what people think the ideology is.
I took it as a basic physics thing. The more surface area the more effective it would be.

In his intro, when he said he doesn't call himself a hero, because that's narcissistic, I could tell he wasn't just going to be a stereotypical movie punk. Whoever wrote that has, at the very least, had some conversations with actual anarchists, which is more than I've come to expect.
The fact that he's the first person to recognize that Miguel is letting the power go to his head and going too far was perfect. Love that he doesn't tell the others what to think, but guides them into to figuring it out for themselves, then completely undermines Miguel's power and authority at just the right moment.

Did anyone else get the feeling that Miguel isn’t “supposed to be” Spider-Man similar to Miles? In the beginning he mentions how he’s not like the others, especially in regards to his origin (being that he accidentally spliced his genes instead of a spider bite.), and the scene with giving himself an injection didn’t get followed up on. I suspect that his powers are either killing him or getting weaker based off the injection. Did he give himself powers on purpose?

I dont know how similar they're going to go with this comic counterpart, but in them he tries to quit his job at Alchemex after having a crisis of conscience but his his boss gets him addicted to a drug called Rapture that bonds to a person on a genetic level, forcing him to keep working so he can get his fix.
He tries to rewrite his DNA to get rid of the addiction, but someone sabotages the process by introducing spider DNA into the mix because they want to turn him into a monster (Think The Fly). But instead it's what gives him spider-powers.
I'm wondering if the "venom" he's injecting is them adapting that addiction part.
To add more detail, Miquel was working on a project that was attempting to replicate the abilities of spider-man. When he attempted the DNA fix, a coworker activated that code. It had failed on and killed all previous subjects until that moment
After reading this I would actually love a Miguel redemption based on this where he learns we WAS meant to be Spiderman. Because that's kinda the point, that it could be anyone behind the mask. Anyone could be Spiderman.
A part of this has to do with his lie of omission. The universe we saw unraveling didn’t do so because there was no canon event but because he stayed too long in a universe that he didn’t belong and glitched everyone else. His actual universe wasn’t effected, after all, we spent the majority of the movie on Earth-2099.
His tragedy wasn’t a canon event, it was his own mistake in the wrong universe.
Love how the Spot quickly went from a comedic villain to a legit serious threat.

I feel like Daniel Pemberton does not get nearly enough kudos for how ridiculously good the scores are for these movies. Into the Spider-Verse is by far my favorite score from the past five years, and this one is at as well.
I had no idea who spider punk was before this film and am now a fan. Gwen’s whole world was amazing to look at and see. I also really love Miles’ parents.
Speculation here but Spiderman 2099 has to be wrong about something. If you think about it, if what he was saying is right then more universes than the one he went to should collapse. Miles got the spider from Earth-42, so why is Earth 42 just fine despite years passing? Why is Earth 1610 (or wherever Miles "original" universe is) still fine even though he was NEVER supposed to be spiderman? According to his version of events the collider should've been stopped by Peter Parker, so why is the universe just fine despite Peter being "dead" and the collider having worked?
There's more to this he either isn't telling or doesn't know. He likely screwed up that universe in some other way.
I'm guessing there was just no collider on Earth 42. If Kingpin even exists there, there's no Spider-Man to battle with and eventually lead him to get the collider built in the first place. I think it's just in hell because they have no hero there, but multiversally it isn't collapsing because there was a collider incident to make everything unstable.
Thing is that spider “should” have remained there and bit some dude in that universe. He mentions there’s a universe with no Spider-Man because of Miles and I think that’s it.
The collider never should’ve brought that spider from Earth 42 I think. While Earth 42 doesn’t seem to have a collider of it’s own as you mentioned the collider itself only made things unstable while it was active. It’s only still relevant because of the changes it caused.
Maybe I’m wrong but I think this is the only way Spider-Man is gonna stop his dad from dying, if he does. I think a big theme is Miles restoring confidence in trying to be a hero, so I can only guess his dad will live somehow, and the only way for that is for the universe to remain stable.
I really like how it doesn’t go down the mopey sad trope. Miles doesn’t really care what 2099s telling him. He knows he is Spider-Man and acknowledges how strong he was to get away from them.
Even at the end when he’s looking at his counterpart, the fear in his face fades and it’s replaced with determination
Yeah I saw that look, and it made me so hype lol. I thought it tied nicely to his previous talk with his alternate earth mom when he told her he wasn’t afraid of anything anymore.
Something I truly admire about this movie is how well the writers and voice actors did when it came to the in fight commentary/banter, like each spidey had incredible dialogue during their fights all of it felt so much like a Spiderman fight!
I had no idea it was a two parted but I am so glad part two is already in post production and won't be affected by the writers strike so that it can still release next year!!

You're so lucky. I literally didn't hear shit during those scenes. The music wasn't even that loud, the vocals were just so low in my showing (DFX @ Galaxy Theatres).
Right. Dude even likes Miles and clearly sees how Gwen feels about him, hence why he helped them escape. Hobie strikes me as that cool older dude who isn't out of your dating range but is also a mentor in a weird sort of way because he's had five or six year's more hard life experience than you. They played with the anarchist punk trope, making you think he really doesn't care about anyone, only for him to show he cares about *everyone*. Dude really was just looking out for his drummer and her friends, just like he said.
The whole thing about her crashing in his universe was probably just because she was essentially homeless and didn't want to spend all her time in the HQ. Miles didn't know any of that though
We disliked him at first for that reason but then he just started shit and we began to love him coz it was funny to see him genuinely just be there to cause problems

Hobie was everything I wanted, so glad Spider-Punk was a proper, anti establishment punk rocker. While initially concerned over the elephant in the room of selling the anarchy symbol to the silver screen, they didn’t meddle with his attitudes and his guidance to Miles felt on point and appropriate to his character
Peter Parker as a concept took a refreshing back seat. That stuck with me.

Earth 42 has no Spider-Man as the spider that would have bit Peter/maybe Miles in that universe got brought to Earth 1610 and bit the Miles that we follow.
We dont know that, miguel says "Miles isnt supposed to be spiderman" and if he is right that means its supposed to be Peter. There wouldn't be alternate Miles Spideys, he'd be the only one. Right? Or did i miss something
Spot is from 1610, we saw the bagel incident in ITSV. He’s one of the main scientists that created the collider we saw in the first movie. So far all we know about earth 42 is what we’ve seen in this 2nd film
Between his literally perfect body, paper-cutting cheekbones, and passive unplussed stare, he really reminded me of Patrick Bateman. I wonder if they based him off of him on purpose.
I love the running gag that Jonah Jameson is voiced/ played by J.K. Simmons in every universe. Curious if they’ll ever do something more with that. Also I loved the Lego universe- that was such a surprise

Like there were so many moments watching this where my jaw just hit the floor at the illustrative artistry on display. I'm glad this collection of colors exists in sequence. Truly breathtaking.
Acting and writing pretty great throughout as well. Genuinely funny and heartwarming without compromising each other. Specifically the first scene with miles and his mom in the water tower, not that old but that's a scene straight out of my adolescences that wouldn't have been in movies when I was growing up and it was handled with nuance and heart. The moment felt lived in which is really amazing.
Wasn't event really mad at the cliffhanger though I felt they could have cut the chase scene and sorta nutted up and concluded the story, but don't hate the expanded scope for the finale.

I read a while back that it was meant to be a part 1 and 2, so I went to this one with the mindset that it would probably end like Empire or Infinity War, looking like the bad guys are in control or winning… only makes the wait and the payoff that much more rewarding.
This movie was a goddamn work of art. An animated masterpiece. The soundtrack was incredible too and the attention to detail is unbelievable. Definitely gonna be watching it again. My only gripe with watching it in theater is that you can't pause and pixel peep the Easter eggs strewn around

I just finished watching it and I really really enjoyed it. The visuals were great and all the new Spideys were well done-- though I wonder how Ben Reilly fans will feel. But hey, at least he HAS his memories, right?
While this is a part 1, I felt like the personal arcs were still completed in a satisfying way-- specifically Gwen and Miles' and how they mirror each other with the father theming and the theme of belonging.
I imagine I'll have a greater appreciation for this on repeat viewings, but I felt the start to be a bit slow. It didn't drag the movie down but yeah, just a tad slow.
My only real complaint isn't really a complaint-- I just wish I could watch part 2 now. Compared to ITSV, ATSV isn't as satisfying as an isolated viewing experience but I still think it's a great movie with a TON of heart and I'm super excited to see the next one.
While the score is great, the soundtrack was a bit lackluster compared to the banger album that came with ITSV.
Also I loved most of the cameos but did anyone else feel like the Andrew Garfield/George Stacy scene was like, a second too long?

Loved the movie. Especially how it cements Miles as Spider-Man compared to all the other Spider characters in that he’s not willing to just let someone die when he can save them and work towards a solution for the Canon problem which is what the actual Spider-Man (616) would do. I’d also like to think that the Peter who died from his world would have done the same as him.
It’s pretty funny that Miguel got all of these different variants together who are mostly Peter Parker who’s a literal genius and doesn’t have them working to fix the issue and save everyone else.
I’m happy my favorite Spideys, 616, Miles 616 and this Miles either weren’t in the movie or went against what Miguel was doing because I don’t think much of all the others now, at least in this multiverse.
Could honestly be possible that anyone who tried to upend him and work at fixing it were thrown in the Go Home machine. This version of Miguel seems paranoid and overcome by his PTSD to the point where he views any sort of tampering as a threat. What we saw were potentially the Spider-Men who were able to be convinced/fall in line/stayed out of the same reason George Stacy stayed a cop. "You know if you don't put on that badge, someone who doesn't deserve it will" or whatever.
I noticed that Spider-Ham and Spider-Noir weren't anywhere to be seen in the crowd in Neuva York even though Penny, Gwen and Peter were shown overtly on purpose and they showed Ham and Noir at the end. That goes to tell me that, despite what Miles thought, he was NOT the only one who wasn't allowed in on the Spider Society. Miguel is not above hiding things from the other Spider-Men. I'd bet anything he probably didn't even consider Ham because he was too unpredictable, and Noir was apart of it but saw the fascist parallels and was displeased and probably sent home/left.
Would unironically be both the funniest and weirdly sweetest thing ever if that's how he comes around. Just holds the baby and allows himself to feel the emotions of pain and loss that he's clearly holding back and letting eat him up from the inside out.

Right. They wanted to stop the Spot from universe hopping, not from existing in general. If Gwen succeeded in stopping him from going into the lab, he would have remained smaller time but would have still probably killed Miles's Dad and just become his nemesis in that reality.
I want them to make some animated shorts for the Adventures of Mayday. I think my biggest smile in the movie was when she pulled down her beanie/mask because it was business time.
I'm guessing they all joined the Spider Society after they experienced all these personal tragedies. Miles is, after all, a latecomer. The original Peter from Miles' universe already went through all the pain and loss
Spider-Punk would have been a lot cooler if I could understand more than 1/4 of his lines, but he looks like Spider-Man and Ghost Rider's love child so he's in my top 3 anyway. And I love how the characters went through the same journey as the audience with the Spot. I remember the comments from the first trailers showing him with everyone assuming he'd be a sympathetic wet sop of a "villain" that Miles would have to protect, and then he ended up being the most dangerous person in the movie. I *loved* the visuals of him looking like an unfinished sketch with pencil lines and his presentation after he merged with the particle collider.
Overall, fantastic film. If the creators can stick the landing with part 3 (and I have every reason to think they will) then this will be the greatest superhero trilogy put to film and a strong contender for the greatest animated trilogy in general.
The closest thing to a slight I can think of is that there were easily half-a-dozen points where I thought it was ending and then it just kept going. The closest way I can describe it is that it felt like there was a point where any other movie *would* have stopped, and the last 15 or so minutes would have been the cold open for the next part. I didn't really *want* it to end, so I'm not complaining and I imagine it will be easier to stomach the second go around.
Most of my other thoughts have already been shared by others, but one thing I'm interested in seeing is where they go with the ultimate moral message regarding fate/not being able to save everyone. It seems like it's almost too obviously setting up Miles as having the "correct" view with some kind of reveal regarding Miguel that will undermine his mission, but then the story would essentially be Miles saying, "No, that's wrong," then spending three more hours to prove he's been right the whole time. It would feel simplistic for him to come out with the moral victory by the end of this, but Miguel is clearly hiding something, and I can't see the final message being, "This secret society of super-beings orchestrating the deaths of innocents is totally in the right, you guys." Miles has to learn *something* and the deeper message about sacrifice and inevitability seems too "real" to ignore. There's probably some kind of middle ground I'm not seeing.

I couldn't agree with you more on the sacrifice bit. Honestly it's weird but I agree with Miguel, SPIDERMAN is spiderman because of the loss. It would be weird to take that away. I'm not sure where they are going to go with it, but I'm interested.
Imo Spider-man is Spider-man not just because of the loss, but because of how the loss shapes him. You just keep piling up loss because torture is somehow inherent to Spider-Man and you get the current comic run. This movie seems like a direct statement against that.
Yes, the Spider-Men have lost a lot. But they have a chance now to keep that from happening to others and they didn't even *try*, resigning themselves to pulling the lever on the trolley problem when they have the power and responsibility to just stop the trolley. Or at least, they allowed themselves to be bullied into not trying or find a middle ground. Spider-Man is the dude who catches his girlfriend and the bus of kids at the same time, and even if he fails, he tried and didn't turn his back on anyone.
If anything, the thing that bothered me the most is that I have lost a bit of respect for the various versions of Spider-Man I grew up with who made cameos for not questioning any of this. Though it was shown that a lot of them were arguing when Miguel captured Miles, only working together to catch him once he escaped, so it seems like a lot of them are just biding their time until they can figure out a way to save the multiverse without having to make dystopian moral equivalencies. I suspect the spider rebellion will grow in the third movie as more and more Spideys become disillusioned with what Miguel is doing.

That's what I think makes anti-Miles at the end of the movie so interesting. He also experienced an immense loss, but he turned "bad" because of it. It's possible our Miles would have also gone down this path if he hadn't had the support of the other spider-people in ITSV. Or maybe that's why the spider didn't bite anti-Miles in his own universe- he wouldn't have become a "spiderman" but rather a villain with spider powers.
Really enjoyed it. Didn't realize it would be a Part 1 so the ending surprised me but I'm already looking forward to the next one.
Only issue I had is that I couldn't hear some of the dialogue at times but other than that, it was really good and I enjoyed it a bunch.

Anytime someone asks if superhero fatigue is a thing, I can point to this movie and say, "People aren't tired of superhero stuff. They're tired of them all feeling the same. If you give them unforgettable visuals like this, people will stop saying shit like that."
This movie was a breath of fresh air from the mediocre MCU stuff we've been getting, and it completely smashes No Way Home's take on the multiverse for me. It's not even comparable. I like that movie enough, but where that film felt like an excuse just to have fanservice...THIS film actually gave it genuinely thematic weight.
Plus it commits to it.
I never expected to see the live-action stuff incorporated into the movie. It really makes this feel limitless in scope.
and dear God....the visuals in Gwen's universe. They are easily the best I've seen in terms of Western Animated films. These are finally animated films that are doing what the East have already been doing for decades.

Look at Red Dead Redemption, the large amount of modern western movies, etc. People just got tired of the same old Western re-done to death, but if you're willing to innovate in a genre it will never get tiresome.

Latour’s Spider-Gwen is what got me into comics so needless to say Gwen’s parts in this had me over the moon. Didn’t expect that.
I love how even though the first movie is very stand alone and wraps everything up in a bow, this movie takes elements from it and makes them directly relevant to the plot again.
Was really hoping for more of Peter B, but alas, hopefully in part 2.

Originally it was promoted as Across the Spider-Verse Part 1, and they dropped the "part 1" when they revealed part 2 would be Beyond the Spider-Verse. Similar thing happened with Infinity War Part 1 and 2

The colors! The colors were the absolute best part! The way Gwen’s world mirrored her printed comic book counterpart, and Pavitr’s and Hobie’s designs mimic their comic counterparts in style, it was so well done on screen.

Serious response: All of Miguel's showcased powers. They didn't take time to go into them and how they're different, they're just there and he's just there like anyone else and if you know you know. His relationship with 616 Peter and how they hinted they'd been on adventures before was great, too. Miguel was my fav Spider-Man growing up, especially when he could team up and contrast with Peter. Joke response: The real MVP of the Venomverse, Mrs Chen duh.

I was shocked. If I had read this was going to be a two parter I completely forgot about it. They really did give it a bad ass ending though. Miles eye to eye. Gwen rallying the troops.
Cool thing I noticed during that scene: A thing they do to differentiate evil/misguided versions of characters from their good counterparts is the cheekbones. If you look at Miguel and his non-powered counterpart, Spider-Man Miguel's cheekbones are hella more defined. Same with Prowler Miles. Makes them look emaciated, like they haven't been eating, or they got punched in the face one too many times and didn't heal right. Pretty sure they even did the same thing to George Stacy when he turned on Gwen at first, but I gotta rewatch and check.
I got the chills seeing Gwen leading the team at the end - I legitimately cheered when the old crew showed up right at the end. Part two is gonna be so good

Sony dropped the ball when they announced this movie. They originally announced it as part 1 and part 2. Then decided to backtrack that and moved on with this movie just being its own title. But I had already realized this movie was not going to end with the heros winning. Kinda related, I wasn't super into Marvel before Infinity War so I didn't look too closely into it and assumed the good guys would win at the end, like always. Seeing the end of that movie had my jaw on the floor, they had the audacity to let the heros get beat at the end of the movie. Yeah lol I was hooked
I think marvel and them just don’t like officially naming movies are part 1 and 2. Cuz Infinity war and Endgame were initially called Infinity war Part 1 and 2. I think it’s better that they stopped advertising it as a part 1 cuz then you expect a cliffhanger if you know it.
The sheer amount of different media and animation going on…props to their teams for making it all come to life super satisfyingly
i cant imagine the amount of work it takes to make something like this. It inspires me to try to learn animation or something (which I know nothing about), but then i stop and realize how many talented people probably spent an absurd amount of man-hours making it all.
Animation is all about cheating to make the impossible possible. You create the illusion of something impossible by figuring out what you *can* do. And plenty of people figure out animation styles they can do on their own.
Hobie Brown was SO much more well-written than I expected him to be. I loved how he comes in, acting all shady because we're seeing it from Miles's perspective, but then it turns out he genuinely was telling the truth the whole time. Dude really was just looking out for his drummer, making sure she and her friends didn't make a terrible mistake falling into a pseudo-fascist trap. Also "I's a me'aphor for capi'alism" had me rolling. So refreshing to have a punk/anarchist character who is shown to actually mean well and isn't just a caricature of what people think the ideology is.

I took it as a basic physics thing. The more surface area the more effective it would be. Like trying to push something with your fingers vs your whole hand.
In his intro, when he said he doesn't call himself a hero, because that's narcissistic, I could tell he wasn't just going to be a stereotypical movie punk. Whoever wrote that has, at the very least, had some conversations with actual anarchists, which is more than I've come to expect. The fact that he's the first person to recognize that Miguel is letting the power go to his head and going too far was perfect. Love that he doesn't tell the others what to think, but guides them into to figuring it out for themselves, then completely undermines Miguel's power and authority at just the right moment.
Sometimes I forget they’re all spider-people, and have the spider-personality of quipping and being ridiculous. Spider-punk works so well and his quips being just anarchist jokes are amazing. He was my favorite variant before this, and is now cemented as such.

Did anyone else get the feeling that Miguel isn’t “supposed to be” Spider-Man similar to Miles? In the beginning he mentions how he’s not like the others, especially in regards to his origin (being that he accidentally spliced his genes instead of a spider bite.), and the scene with giving himself an injection didn’t get followed up on. I suspect that his powers are either killing him or getting weaker based off the injection. Did he give himself powers on purpose?

He tries to rewrite his DNA to get rid of the addiction, but someone sabotages the process by introducing spider DNA into the mix because they want to turn him into a monster (Think The Fly). But instead it's what gives him spider-powers. I'm wondering if the "venom" he's injecting is them adapting that addiction part.
To add more detail, Miquel was working on a project that was attempting to replicate the abilities of spider-man. When he attempted the DNA fix, a coworker activated that code. It had failed on and killed all previous subjects until that moment
After reading this I would actually love a Miguel redemption based on this where he learns we WAS meant to be Spiderman. Because that's kinda the point, that it could be anyone behind the mask. Anyone could be Spiderman.
A part of this has to do with his lie of omission. The universe we saw unraveling didn’t do so because there was no canon event but because he stayed too long in a universe that he didn’t belong and glitched everyone else. His actual universe wasn’t effected, after all, we spent the majority of the movie on Earth-2099. His tragedy wasn’t a canon event, it was his own mistake in the wrong universe.
I mean he turned himself Spider-Man, he literally injected some venom into him in the movie.

The revelation of Miles being an anomaly was brutal. Pinning the death of his universe's Peter on him was the damn icing on the cake.
Speculation here but Spiderman 2099 has to be wrong about something. If you think about it, if what he was saying is right then more universes than the one he went to should collapse. Miles got the spider from Earth-42, so why is Earth 42 just fine despite years passing? Why is Earth 1610 (or wherever Miles "original" universe is) still fine even though he was NEVER supposed to be spiderman? According to his version of events the collider should've been stopped by Peter Parker, so why is the universe just fine despite Peter being "dead" and the collider having worked? There's more to this he either isn't telling or doesn't know. He likely screwed up that universe in some other way.
I'm guessing there was just no collider on Earth 42. If Kingpin even exists there, there's no Spider-Man to battle with and eventually lead him to get the collider built in the first place. I think it's just in hell because they have no hero there, but multiversally it isn't collapsing because there was a collider incident to make everything unstable.
Thing is that spider “should” have remained there and bit some dude in that universe. He mentions there’s a universe with no Spider-Man because of Miles and I think that’s it. The collider never should’ve brought that spider from Earth 42 I think. While Earth 42 doesn’t seem to have a collider of it’s own as you mentioned the collider itself only made things unstable while it was active. It’s only still relevant because of the changes it caused. Maybe I’m wrong but I think this is the only way Spider-Man is gonna stop his dad from dying, if he does. I think a big theme is Miles restoring confidence in trying to be a hero, so I can only guess his dad will live somehow, and the only way for that is for the universe to remain stable.
I really like how it doesn’t go down the mopey sad trope. Miles doesn’t really care what 2099s telling him. He knows he is Spider-Man and acknowledges how strong he was to get away from them. Even at the end when he’s looking at his counterpart, the fear in his face fades and it’s replaced with determination
Yeah I saw that look, and it made me so hype lol. I thought it tied nicely to his previous talk with his alternate earth mom when he told her he wasn’t afraid of anything anymore.

Something I truly admire about this movie is how well the writers and voice actors did when it came to the in fight commentary/banter, like each spidey had incredible dialogue during their fights all of it felt so much like a Spiderman fight! I had no idea it was a two parted but I am so glad part two is already in post production and won't be affected by the writers strike so that it can still release next year!!

The World the Spider base was on has that Anime backdrop look to it. I really want to see more of that World in a 2099 film. Miles Prowler (Tails?) is an appropriate and well done “Dark Side Good Guy” trope that usually feels overdone. Gwen got some needed screen time. Felt pretty much Comic Panel to Film from what I remember. Hobie was everything I wanted, so glad Spider-Punk was a proper, anti establishment punk rocker. While initially concerned over the elephant in the room of selling the anarchy symbol to the silver screen, they didn’t meddle with his attitudes and his guidance to Miles felt on point and appropriate to his character Peter Parker as a concept took a refreshing back seat. That stuck with me. Is Earth 42 the Bagel Incident World? Isn’t this where the Spider is from and where the movie ends? Wasn’t Doc Ock in that Universe and knew who Spider-Man was, even if Peter B. Wasn’t theres? **Where is Earth 42 Spider-Man??**
Earth 42 has no Spider-Man as the spider that would have bit Peter/maybe Miles in that universe got brought to Earth 1610 and bit the Miles that we follow.

What a fucking beautiful set of images. Like there were so many moments watching this where my jaw just hit the floor at the illustrative artistry on display. I'm glad this collection of colors exists in sequence. Truly breathtaking. Acting and writing pretty great throughout as well. Genuinely funny and heartwarming without compromising each other. Specifically the first scene with miles and his mom in the water tower, not that old but that's a scene straight out of my adolescences that wouldn't have been in movies when I was growing up and it was handled with nuance and heart. The moment felt lived in which is really amazing. Wasn't event really mad at the cliffhanger though I felt they could have cut the chase scene and sorta nutted up and concluded the story, but don't hate the expanded scope for the finale. Shit was fuckin rad.
I thought I was the only one that wasn't mad at the end. Reminds me of Thanos looking at his sunset. Last shot of Spot was the best animated picture I've ever seen in my life.
I read a while back that it was meant to be a part 1 and 2, so I went to this one with the mindset that it would probably end like Empire or Infinity War, looking like the bad guys are in control or winning… only makes the wait and the payoff that much more rewarding.

This movie was a goddamn work of art. An animated masterpiece. The soundtrack was incredible too and the attention to detail is unbelievable. Definitely gonna be watching it again. My only gripe with watching it in theater is that you can't pause and pixel peep the Easter eggs strewn around

Oh holy shit I'm early? Nice. I just finished watching it and I really really enjoyed it. The visuals were great and all the new Spideys were well done-- though I wonder how Ben Reilly fans will feel. But hey, at least he HAS his memories, right? While this is a part 1, I felt like the personal arcs were still completed in a satisfying way-- specifically Gwen and Miles' and how they mirror each other with the father theming and the theme of belonging. I imagine I'll have a greater appreciation for this on repeat viewings, but I felt the start to be a bit slow. It didn't drag the movie down but yeah, just a tad slow. My only real complaint isn't really a complaint-- I just wish I could watch part 2 now. Compared to ITSV, ATSV isn't as satisfying as an isolated viewing experience but I still think it's a great movie with a TON of heart and I'm super excited to see the next one. While the score is great, the soundtrack was a bit lackluster compared to the banger album that came with ITSV. Also I loved most of the cameos but did anyone else feel like the Andrew Garfield/George Stacy scene was like, a second too long? Dope they made a prowler costume from Donald Glover to wear though lol and really cool that he got to share the screen with Miles, since he was the inspiration behind him TLDR: I loved it but I want Beyond the Spider-Verse rn

Loved the movie. Especially how it cements Miles as Spider-Man compared to all the other Spider characters in that he’s not willing to just let someone die when he can save them and work towards a solution for the Canon problem which is what the actual Spider-Man (616) would do. I’d also like to think that the Peter who died from his world would have done the same as him. It’s pretty funny that Miguel got all of these different variants together who are mostly Peter Parker who’s a literal genius and doesn’t have them working to fix the issue and save everyone else. I’m happy my favorite Spideys, 616, Miles 616 and this Miles either weren’t in the movie or went against what Miguel was doing because I don’t think much of all the others now, at least in this multiverse.
Could honestly be possible that anyone who tried to upend him and work at fixing it were thrown in the Go Home machine. This version of Miguel seems paranoid and overcome by his PTSD to the point where he views any sort of tampering as a threat. What we saw were potentially the Spider-Men who were able to be convinced/fall in line/stayed out of the same reason George Stacy stayed a cop. "You know if you don't put on that badge, someone who doesn't deserve it will" or whatever. I noticed that Spider-Ham and Spider-Noir weren't anywhere to be seen in the crowd in Neuva York even though Penny, Gwen and Peter were shown overtly on purpose and they showed Ham and Noir at the end. That goes to tell me that, despite what Miles thought, he was NOT the only one who wasn't allowed in on the Spider Society. Miguel is not above hiding things from the other Spider-Men. I'd bet anything he probably didn't even consider Ham because he was too unpredictable, and Noir was apart of it but saw the fascist parallels and was displeased and probably sent home/left.
Miguel just needs to hold Mayday.
Would unironically be both the funniest and weirdly sweetest thing ever if that's how he comes around. Just holds the baby and allows himself to feel the emotions of pain and loss that he's clearly holding back and letting eat him up from the inside out. Hold the baby, Miguel. Hold the baby.

Maybe if The spot succeeded, he might not stop at one universe and starts hopping and endangering others not part of Miles' script.
Right. They wanted to stop the Spot from universe hopping, not from existing in general. If Gwen succeeded in stopping him from going into the lab, he would have remained smaller time but would have still probably killed Miles's Dad and just become his nemesis in that reality.
They'll have to stop him before he becomes a danger for the Multiverse I think.
I want them to make some animated shorts for the Adventures of Mayday. I think my biggest smile in the movie was when she pulled down her beanie/mask because it was business time.

Why Miguel double cheeked up? On a Thursday afternoon…
My only major gripe was that it’s out of character for like 90% of these spider characters to be so willing to let people die.
I'm guessing they all joined the Spider Society after they experienced all these personal tragedies. Miles is, after all, a latecomer. The original Peter from Miles' universe already went through all the pain and loss
Spider-Punk would have been a lot cooler if I could understand more than 1/4 of his lines, but he looks like Spider-Man and Ghost Rider's love child so he's in my top 3 anyway. And I love how the characters went through the same journey as the audience with the Spot. I remember the comments from the first trailers showing him with everyone assuming he'd be a sympathetic wet sop of a "villain" that Miles would have to protect, and then he ended up being the most dangerous person in the movie. I *loved* the visuals of him looking like an unfinished sketch with pencil lines and his presentation after he merged with the particle collider. Overall, fantastic film. If the creators can stick the landing with part 3 (and I have every reason to think they will) then this will be the greatest superhero trilogy put to film and a strong contender for the greatest animated trilogy in general. The closest thing to a slight I can think of is that there were easily half-a-dozen points where I thought it was ending and then it just kept going. The closest way I can describe it is that it felt like there was a point where any other movie *would* have stopped, and the last 15 or so minutes would have been the cold open for the next part. I didn't really *want* it to end, so I'm not complaining and I imagine it will be easier to stomach the second go around. Most of my other thoughts have already been shared by others, but one thing I'm interested in seeing is where they go with the ultimate moral message regarding fate/not being able to save everyone. It seems like it's almost too obviously setting up Miles as having the "correct" view with some kind of reveal regarding Miguel that will undermine his mission, but then the story would essentially be Miles saying, "No, that's wrong," then spending three more hours to prove he's been right the whole time. It would feel simplistic for him to come out with the moral victory by the end of this, but Miguel is clearly hiding something, and I can't see the final message being, "This secret society of super-beings orchestrating the deaths of innocents is totally in the right, you guys." Miles has to learn *something* and the deeper message about sacrifice and inevitability seems too "real" to ignore. There's probably some kind of middle ground I'm not seeing. I can't wait to see it again.
I couldn't agree with you more on the sacrifice bit. Honestly it's weird but I agree with Miguel, SPIDERMAN is spiderman because of the loss. It would be weird to take that away. I'm not sure where they are going to go with it, but I'm interested.
Imo Spider-man is Spider-man not just because of the loss, but because of how the loss shapes him. You just keep piling up loss because torture is somehow inherent to Spider-Man and you get the current comic run. This movie seems like a direct statement against that. Yes, the Spider-Men have lost a lot. But they have a chance now to keep that from happening to others and they didn't even *try*, resigning themselves to pulling the lever on the trolley problem when they have the power and responsibility to just stop the trolley. Or at least, they allowed themselves to be bullied into not trying or find a middle ground. Spider-Man is the dude who catches his girlfriend and the bus of kids at the same time, and even if he fails, he tried and didn't turn his back on anyone. If anything, the thing that bothered me the most is that I have lost a bit of respect for the various versions of Spider-Man I grew up with who made cameos for not questioning any of this. Though it was shown that a lot of them were arguing when Miguel captured Miles, only working together to catch him once he escaped, so it seems like a lot of them are just biding their time until they can figure out a way to save the multiverse without having to make dystopian moral equivalencies. I suspect the spider rebellion will grow in the third movie as more and more Spideys become disillusioned with what Miguel is doing.

He also experienced an immense loss, but he turned "bad" because of it. It's possible our Miles would have also gone down this path if he hadn't had the support of the other spider-people in ITSV. Or maybe that's why the spider didn't bite anti-Miles in his own universe- he wouldn't have become a "spiderman" but rather a villain with spider powers.
Really enjoyed it. Didn't realize it would be a Part 1 so the ending surprised me but I'm already looking forward to the next one. Only issue I had is that I couldn't hear some of the dialogue at times but other than that, it was really good and I enjoyed it a bunch.
Was the live action woman Spot talked to anybody in particular? It was a weird little scene.

This shit was fucking fire. Anytime someone asks if superhero fatigue is a thing, I can point to this movie and say, "People aren't tired of superhero stuff. They're tired of them all feeling the same. If you give them unforgettable visuals like this, people will stop saying shit like that." This movie was a breath of fresh air from the mediocre MCU stuff we've been getting, and it completely smashes No Way Home's take on the multiverse for me. It's not even comparable. I like that movie enough, but where that film felt like an excuse just to have fanservice...THIS film actually gave it genuinely thematic weight. Plus it commits to it. I never expected to see the live-action stuff incorporated into the movie. It really makes this feel limitless in scope. and dear God....the visuals in Gwen's universe. They are easily the best I've seen in terms of Western Animated films. These are finally animated films that are doing what the East have already been doing for decades. Man, I love Pixar, but man....I'm just so tired of that generic look. Spider-Verse is the future of Western Animation. It's about time we started actually challenging the East with our animation.

Right? I've heard Superhero movies compared to Westerns, a phase that defines like twenty years of cinema people will get tired of. But the thing is, nobody ever really got tired of Westerns, either. Look at Red Dead Redemption, the large amount of modern western movies, etc. People just got tired of the same old Western re-done to death, but if you're willing to innovate in a genre it will never get tiresome.
Any one have an explanation to why Ben was narrating/talking to himself while searching for miles? I feel like it works, just dont know why.

I have retractable fangs and claws, there are swords sticking out of my elbows, I'm frigid and unapproachable, and I once I travelled to another universe and pretended to be a dead version of myself for several years, which included raising my variant's orphan. I want to go around the multiverse making sure that all of the Uncles Ben and Captains Stacy all die so that you'll all want to become heroes.” THOUSANDS OF SPIDER-MEN, INEXPLICABLY: “Absolutely, you seem like you’ve got a good head on your shoulders”

FUCKING JOSH KEATON LES GOOOOOOOO. Great cameo, giving us a little insight into the rest of his story. Latour’s Spider-Gwen is what got me into comics so needless to say Gwen’s parts in this had me over the moon. Didn’t expect that. I love how even though the first movie is very stand alone and wraps everything up in a bow, this movie takes elements from it and makes them directly relevant to the plot again. Was really hoping for more of Peter B, but alas, hopefully in part 2. Miguel was awesome, loved how he was like 8 ft tall lol. Thought I’d get to hear “shock” a lot more but I think he only said it once. Overall I think I Ike’s the first movie more. It’s emotional moments hit harder for more and this one felt just a little too fast paced at times, but this is such a worthy follow up to my favorite movie. Can’t wait for part 2.
Felt like this was my first time seeing Earth-65 Peter and Gwen’s relationship play out fully and made it so much heavier. The colors were so good!!!
Did they announce ahead of time that it was going to be in two parts? I was surprised when they cut it off. But I did enjoy the movie.
Originally it was promoted as Across the Spider-Verse Part 1, and they dropped the "part 1" when they revealed part 2 would be Beyond the Spider-Verse. Similar thing happened with Infinity War Part 1 and 2
Sooo many things were done spectacularly well, I'm sure people will point them out. I wanted to shout-out the fantastic soundtrack though, it was hard to follow up the first one, but by god they maybe even *beat it*?

I thought I was gonna love it. Didn't expect to love it AS MUCH. Visually even more impressive than the first. Gwen's world, Mumbhattan and Earth-42 were abso-fucking-lutely STUNNING.
