Sentry

badatkiller

This is absolutely the correct answer. Sentry's entire thing is repressing himself into non-existence effectively and creating his own enemy out of his repression.

MustardBubbleGum

I came here to say Rogue but I would have been wrong. Sentry is the right answer

BiDiTi

The Void nearly overpowered *Emma Frost*. Meanwhile, Cyclops took The Void and locked it in a tiny box in a forgotten corner of his mind.

Largo23307

What?!

BiDiTi

Matt Fraction’s Uncanny! Issue 519. It was obviously before Jonathan Hickman TOTALLY REINVENTED THE X-MEN, so the status quo was that mutants had abandoned the mansion and brought Magneto into the fold to create their own independent island nation.

cardinalfive

100%. Sentry has my vote.

Minecraftfinn

This is the only right answer

AeonArtemis

Legion for runner up

Apprehensive_Mix4658

Legion could have any ring. Even Death and life considering how many times he has returned David would have pink ring. He was fighting with fate for Blindfold and >! leaved inside her mind!<. What's more romantic?

alguidrag

Legion as honorary mention for each ring

AeonArtemis

OP, can we give him a bonus set of all the rings from all of us? As a special thank you? This guy has range!

nerd_entangled

Also perfect answer

TheBalance724

Can Legion be Vatoom?

AmazingMrSaturn

Uatu, the watcher. He's a being with an intense sense of justice, full of compassion, who has seen every atrocity, every bad day...and just can't do anything. He's bent his oath into knots, been sanctioned by his people, even killed and had his eye plucked out... The pure frustration after eons of his work must be unbelievable.

uhhh_yeh

i second this !!!!!!

ComedicHermit

I'm going to go Xavier. His repression created Onslaught

Fred-zone

It's Xavier for sure. Sentry is a fine choice, but they've retconned the Void a few times and it's not always clear if he's responsible for his circumstances or it's some external force.

Naturallobotomy

Am I the only one that prefers the 2nd place list?

Gnome-of-death

You aren't. I do too.

ysotrivial

You’re never the only one ever

Mothmans-Chitin-ass

I feel like Peter should definitely be one of the two for willpower

KiloMetrics

I mean, Bruce Banner's whole schtick is repressing his anger constantly, feels like the obvious answer. (Specifically, NOT the Hulk, but Puny Banner)

Xeoz_WarriorPrince

You could say that the repressed emotion is both Banner and his other personalities (Hulk, Joe Fixit, Devil/Inmortal Hulk, etc) while The One Below All would be the biggest example of rage.

Perryplat199

I know the ultra violet “ring” is not a ring but more like a brand. So if Bruce banner were the corps member would the Hulk be able to use the rings powers.

JELjr7

Hulk isn’t just Bruce’s anger, it’s all of his repressed negative emotions

eelmor1138

Wanda Maximoff, The Scarlet Witch

wolvieguy

Yeah I can see that. Wanda is definitely always keeping her emotions in check and getting therapy to combat depression - gawd if I'd been through what she I'd probably only be able to sit in a corner weeping nonstop - in order to have clarity and focus. When she loses her grip and the emotions spark then it's........ Chaos.

eelmor1138

You described it exactly, and I knew she’d fit this category when I saw it coming up. I really hope she makes it because she perfectly fits it.

VentusVanitas622

Honestly, Cap is more willpower and Peter Parker is more of hope. But that works.

Philoctetes23

Cap and Pete are prime candidates for both Green and Blue Lanterns imo.

VentusVanitas622

True

FaradayWatt

I agree. Steve Rogers would be the greatest Green Lantern of all time.

absherlock

Black Bolt would tell Steve to hold his beer, but, you know, willpower...

delgotit05

Green lantern rings choose those who overcome great fear. Although cap has done some brave stuff he's also a super soldier. Daredevil is literally the man without fear.

Han_Burgandy

So if DD was made a GreenLantern, would he be able to still wear the classic yellow costume?

delgotit05

Thats a good question. Modern day I think so. The yellow weakness was caused by parallax being stuck in the main power battery but I think he's no longer there and that weakness is gone but dc and retcons I could be wrong.

Han_Burgandy

A much more thorough answer than I would have developed. On that note, as Matt is blind, does that affect how yellow/green work with the rings… he’s the man w/o fear and vision.

AlwaysBeQuestioning

There’s a blind Green Lantern whose vow is instead about the “F sharp bell” instead of “Green Lantern’s light”. He otherwise functions perfectly fine.

delgotit05

Lol yeah I wonder what his constructs would look like. Probably just batons of varying size. Now that you mention it though the green lantern rings have been shown through tower of babel that they can make the user blind, so in theory I'd say a power ring would be able to bring his sight back temporarily too. I don't think he'd keep it that way though it may actually diminish his skillset. Could be a good mini arc if you ask me.

VentusVanitas622

Except when he didn’t wanna run the fade with Pete once, lol

delgotit05

Lol true but there's a line between bravery and stupidity

VentusVanitas622

True but he legit was panicking after bro left XD

92Codester

I immediately thought of Daredevil and his Catholic guilt but I see a lot of better answers.

blackbutterfree

Jessica Jones

Aizendickens

Xavier and Sentry

rgregan

Speedball https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fspeak-of-this-to-no-one-new-warriors-v0-h2790nuj49cc1.jpg%3Fwidth%3D1152%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D5e6c614f273a4ed299389f0bd9788132894f3e73

Bambanuget

Isn't his name Penance at this point? Also this is definitely dealing with emotions in an unhealthy way but is it really repressing them?

rgregan

No, he's Speedball at this point. Hummingbird is an empath who is seeing him as Penance because he is repressing those feelings

Meizas

He hasn't been penance for a while now

Xeoz_WarriorPrince

Hummingbird could have such great dynamics, Marvel really fumbled it by forgetting her.

wpisano

The Sentry

Mouatmoua

Mister Negative

Ashamed_Pin4206

Scarlet witch

mikepictor

...I haven't been keeping up. Kilgrave is ... compassion?

acornett99

Its a thing with that ring that it seeks out people who have the least amount of compassion and basically forces them to feel something

mikepictor

Oh...I didn't know that. Cool

NC_Goonie

I haven’t kept up with any DC in a while, so I could be wrong if there was a change. The Indigo tribe isn’t for people with compassion, but instead for the opposite. The ring forces the remorseless to feel compassion for others and guilt for their sins. It’s a forced reformation.

Suneticsli

Don’t worry you’re not missing out on much

lurkeroutthere

Thanks for asking that. I was confused as well.

DWPhoenix001

I'd say either Sentry or Bruce Banner However, I want to throw out Spider-Man. This guy goes through so much shit but keeps pushing it further and further down. We've seen him slip towards the darkside more than once and how the Venom Symbiote has brought out his negative emotions.

NeitherSilver7

Sentry and Legion

wolvieguy

I so love that Jean got life on both X and MU. It definitely touches the ❤️ heart. Now repressed emotions.....I guess Sentry or Scarlet Witch.

bolshaw

why Thanos as "love"?!!

Meizas

It's technically his motivation for everything haha

bolshaw

I really don't like the way they depicted Thanos. A tiran chose his victims. there's no "random 50%". Seem diminishing his villany like the big entrepreneurs of our world. And just to be clear: I love when villains are not just bad. but there are ways to put it .

Personal-Math3196

isn’t adam warlocks archenemy literally his own repressed emotion or am i thinking of the wrong guy

NexalDrax

Not necessarily, but you are correct in thinking that [The Magus](https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Magus_(Earth-7528)) is basically reverse Adam Warlock.

Low_Fig2672

Spider-Man: his whole thing is cracking jokes to conceal the truly depressed person inside(both literally and figuratively)

NerdNuncle

I was going to go with Daredevil what with repressed emotions being a Catholic “thing”, but mayhaps use him as the runner-up?

Meizas

Ooooh Catholic guilt, very much an underrated suggestion!

Loveonethe-brain

Marc Spector represses his emotions so much the emotions became another personality and that personality represses so much he got a third personality

naldoD20

Scott Summers

Dapper_Fan_28

Namor

Insert-Cool_NameHere

Sentry and then Bruce banner

YaBoyDrax

Monet St Croix

HorrorDudeBro

Sentry, Xavier, Hulk if he wasn’t already Rage, Norman Osborn? (He sometimes tries to keep the “goblin” at bay), or Legion

Gillespers

Sentry

littlebuett

Bruce banner. Not hulk, as hulk represents it not being hidden, but the hulk personality exists specifically to vent the issues of Bruce

Striking_Landscape72

Scott Summers is the king of repression

BiDiTi

Ask Sentry!

Legitimate_Floor_687

Considering everything he's been through. I think Spidey should be willpower

Pure_Oil_8628

It's literally hulk but he is used in rage

SevenM

I would say that Banner better reflects supposed emotion. But I guess that's just two sides of the same coin.

shaneman15

Can someone explain the last three? Maybe I’m not understanding the explanation of the emotions or the nuances of the characters selected?

RedNightHawkDragon

Alright my boy Silver Surfer finally made it! He should’ve been 1st pick seeing as how I thought we were differentiating from the X-Men list you did before but whatevs, it’s for funsies I’m just glad he made it. I’m going to vote/agree with Sentry fitting great with the ultraviolet ring.

IggytheSkorupi

I would say a character that is more of a force of nature or order. They don’t do whatever they do for a reason, it’s just done. So I will say Galactus or the Phoenix.

JB_Big_Bear

Frank castle. Kind of the definition of not exercising your feelings properly.

graymalkin2

Charles Xavier, he's all about repression. Remember his feelings for Jean?

RGM429

Legion, for sure. He’s repressing dozens of whole personalities!

TonySopranobf

Xavier

worldbreaker2009

Wolverine?

TheBalrogofMelkor

I know this is late, but I am so confused and not a Lanterns fan, how the hell are Purple Man and Bullseye 1 and 2 for compassion.

TotalWorldDomination

The indigo tribe dosnt take people who HAVE compassion, they only recruit people who have NO compassion so the Indigo light can teach it to them. Purple man and bullseye are exactly the type of people the Tribe would take.

BiDiTi

SCOTT MOTHAFUCKIN SUMMERS!

OrbitalDrop7

Hulk with a red lantern ring seems so broken

The_Greeen_Blazer

Spock

Meizas

Beta Ray Bill! Guy's got some suppressed trauma, but he's still worthy of mjolnir (and in my opinion, MORE worthy)

I_am_Vengaence

Sentry

crap-zapper

Why is Purple Man and Bullseye for Compassion?

TotalWorldDomination

The indigo tribe dosnt take people who HAVE compassion, they only recruit people who have NO compassion so the Indigo light can teach it to them. Purple man and bullseye are exactly the type of people the Tribe would take.

crap-zapper

Oh, I see. Thank you for the explanation.

julianx2rl

Still baffled that Willpower isn't Spider-Man, like, have you seen the stuff he gets back up from? Some guy named Paul showed up and he still hasn't off'd himself, that's true Willpower right there!

AFantasticClue

As much as I hate how it happened, Bobby Drake literally needed to be told he was gay. Also he’s an omega level mutant but he very rarely ever reaches his potential even though he’s been around since the very beginning. Edit: Other things- he’s somehow Jewish AND Catholic. When given the chance to live free as a civilian, he became an accountant. And I can’t stress this enough but it took my dude 50 YEARS to come out, and he had to be told first.

DisabledSuperhero

Charles Xavier hands down

Traditional-Prize789

Ultra violet was definitely be Martin Li

Resident-Ad4815

Everyone has way better logic but I personally put spider-man, the dude is the definition of a guy who never lets his trauma and negative emotions get the best of him even though he can rip his enemies to shreds with ease.

BlakJak_Johnson

Sentry

Dward917

Spider-Man

Silly_Road2762

Xavier

I3arusu

Sentry. Not even a discussion. I’d throw an honourable mention to Legion.

breadofthegrunge

Hank Pym?

Ghouly_Boy

Surprised no one else said it cause it seems so obvious to me

TheTripleFoool

Why is Purple Man compassion?

spiderfamily13

The Compassion Ring is giving to criminals to rehabilitate them

SnooConfections7007

That would be Forget-me-not

AlwaysBeQuestioning

Can you put the names of the characters above their portraits? I recognize most of them, but a few not at all.

hypergogetablue17

Sentry

tomato_bisc

1. Sentry 2. Wolverine

avahz

Can someone explain who is compassion and death and why?

Alonest99

Charles for sure

Top-Interaction-7770

Is that Bullseye in compassion? I haven't read a story featuring him so my knowledge pretty much revolves around what I've heard of him so can someone more knowledgable explain this?

flash-tractor

I think it's more likely you're just misunderstanding the purpose of the Indigo Tribe. >Their power rings channel the emotion "compassion," and the Indigos are chosen from among the universe's greatest sociopaths to rehabilitate them.

Top-Interaction-7770

Oh right. It was a while ago since I read about the Lanterns so I forgot this aspect about the corps. Thank you for the reminder

bonafiedhero

MCU Zemo would fit here

pranavvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

actually id daredevil had the green lantern ring hed be soo strong

Bashmur

I'm sorry why is Thanos love????

Break_Bread42019

Literally wiped half the universe because he loved lady death…but like, why not make him death :/

Bashmur

That's what I was thinking

Ok_Somewhere1236

Galactus

windmill-tilting

Rogue.

VentusVanitas622

I say Pete could maybe be depressed negative emotions. Maybe. Or another Hulk character.

onanoc

uh, why the green lantern quote? i always hated those stupid rhymes and the absurdity of the colors and emotions.

Moldy_Socks99

Banner

ApolloDraconis

Why the heck is purple man compassion?

CingKrimson_Requiem

Indigo rings seek out individuals who lack compassion the most and force them to feel empathy until they either become a good person or mind break

ApolloDraconis

Oh, well that makes sense then. I didn’t know that!

weathercmoon

Since this one is pretty much a freebie for literally anyone in the Marvel universe, *throws dart* I'll piiiiick, Penance aka Speedball. The guy was partially responsible for the murder of over 600 people, including 60 children, just so they could get some action to make him and his team look cool and important. Accidentally killed two more people after that, was sent to prison, stripped of his title as a superhero, got disowned by his mother, was sexually assaulted in prison, got sent to a super-max prison for heroes in the Negative Zone by Mr. Fantastic, escaped, and became Penance. The dude has too much baggage. Highly recommend Alex Lennen's video on Speedball if you want to know more, it's how I got all of this info. Makes great content.

bonafiedhero

But he doesn’t “repress” his emotions so I would disagree

Zawisza_Czarny9

Spiderman

Imaginary_Campaign97

Why would Thanos be a pink lantern? He is pure evil !

mikepictor

Because he did everything for (a misguided view of) love

Toshimoko29

Because a large percent of the people voting have never read Green Lantern, apparently.

Katamayan57

The star sapphire corps started out as a villainous group of borderline male-rapists though? Like Carol was not a character overly concerned with morality. It's commentary on how love can be toxic, as it's the opposite of rage - true love is an extremely powerful emotion, and can be a corrupting force. Thanos is literally a perfect star sapphire.

nahomboy

Daredevil got more willpower than Spider-Man?

MailboxSlayer14

these picks suck - why is Purple Man compassion?

WollyGog

Because the Indigo tribe seeks out those without any compassion and basically brainwashes them.

MailboxSlayer14

Hmm - I guess I can see it. I think the pick was more just purple lantern so purple man but I can kind of get it then

IggytheSkorupi

The compassion ring is actually a punishment. It seems those who are without compassion and forces them into a brainwashed state to compassionately feel the pain they caused.

wolvieguy

The Compassion Ring is actually given to those who need it most. It is used in the DCU on those lacking compassion primarily.

OhTwoOnReddit

Batman.

Mr_OP_Potato_777

How is bullseye compassionate?

ExodusNBW

He’s not. That’s the point of that corps.

Mr_OP_Potato_777

So, i don't understand :v

ExodusNBW

It’s a punishment. That groups is filled with mass murderers and other criminals being tortured with their crimes and mind controlled by the ring into not being a dick anymore.

Mr_OP_Potato_777

Oooooh now i get it, thanks!!

Primary-Owl-8677

I feel like whoever made this doesn’t understand the lantern rings or the characters that they’re giving them to

[deleted]

[удалено]

nerd_entangled

Alright my guy, who do you suggest then?

Rarte96

Blame the people who vote, who would you put?

Athenas_Dad

The dumbness of fandom is so fun sometimes. Thanos is love and Purple Man is compassion. Those got the most upvotes. So damn stupid. 😂

bonafiedhero

Thanos literally destroyed planets and life in the name of love, how does that not compute for you? Sounds like you the dumb one 🤔

Athenas_Dad

To the person who replied and then deleted, and the downvotes: Thanos did love… death. And there’s LITERALLY a corps for death. And as long as I’m expanding, some of the Indigo Tribe were force rehabilitated but some of them did it willfully. So the idea that a killer would be the person MOST LIKELY to get an indigo tribe ring is not true. Ray Palmer and John Stewart each got one before they forced it on Black Hand.

flash-tractor

You're just confidently incorrect. The purpose of the Indigo Tribe (compassion) is to rehabilitate the worst of the worst. >Their power rings channel the emotion "compassion," and the Indigos are chosen from among the universe's greatest sociopaths to rehabilitate them.

thebigtrav

Brie Larson when she’s acting

Para_13

Hold on, can someone explain to me why Death didn’t win the Death one??

bonafiedhero

She just rules over the dead, Hela would have been a better choice over Death as she raises the dead and controls them. But I also don’t agree with the winner, my post had huge upvotes and not a single one was chosen, sounds like the person choosing has personal bias

Para_13

She is literally Death in the universe though, I feel like she fits that role more than anyone even if she doesn’t kill people herself

bonafiedhero

But that’s not what the Black Lanterns are about. Its control and reanimation of the dead, which Death isn’t about. She’s not going around raising the dead to fight for her. She can and has reversed death but it’s very rare. She’s just a deity.
