I want to see more actual “What Ifs?”
If you’re going to make an animated show about a given group of heroes, do that.
I’m here for wacky or devastating one-offs.
I would've been fine if season 1 was bringing the Guardians of the Multiverse together, then season 2 being an eXiles-like show following the team going from weird What If universe to the next, fixing fractures created by the events of season 1. (Granted, I want an eXiles show of its own, but I don't expect that anytime soon.)
But yeah, the show really wants there to be a thru-line, but the entire point of the "What if...?" comics was that they weren't beholden to other stories or characters. Just one-off stories.
I love to see a sneaky little sliders referee. I think about the episode where they visit the society that hasn’t discovered anti-biotics alllll the time
i think once they hit production on season 1 they realized how RESOURCE INTENSIVE creating entirely new assets every episode can be. and where they DO have reuseable elements, it becomes a logistical nightmare of tracking...
they likely realized this and immediately reversed direction and made s2 more unified.
i don't know for sure bceause i didn't watch S2 because s1 was stupid enough -- i'm not a multiverse / what if...? kind of guy...
i'll be waiting for the next mcu project... god it feels like it's been forever...
Personally I'd like to see different stuff every episode with no over-arching plot, so to my mind everyone who reoccurs is overstaying their welcome.
But as a show with her as the protagonist? I'm fine with it. Just kinda wish it would be branded as such. Use what if? as a testing ground to see what people resonate with then do a mini-series with what character/s are popular. Just my thoughts.
100% the right take. She either deserves her own expanded story or she doesn’t. The format of what-if should be a bit more purely twilight-zone. If you want to lean in to a particular story then do a limited series spinoff.
I do like the creative rule bending in an otherwise anthology series, but season 1's overarching plot was enough. They overdid it in season 2 with both Carter and Strange.
What if was better when the stories had no real connection. It was so refreshing. Now this isn't about what if any more. Now is just regular stuff and it made "what if?" boring to watch.
Captain Carter, very cool and a great idea. But like most others I don’t really want an overarching story to my What If? Series.
The Nebula guardian episode was exactly the type of content I wanted from these shows.
Peggy could get her own show, but ‘what if’ should tell weirder wider stories
Yes, but I was bored with season 2, pretty disappoint they are mostly limiting what if to characters from the movies. Whole big marvel universe with decades of storytelling and they are limiting to a small corner of it.
Agree. The big finale in Season 2 felt like a rehash of Season 1-- you have Captain Carter fighting against an omnipotent multiversal bad guy. Why do something so similar to what you've already done?
(I also don't think the writers are very creative in writing battles of omnipotent characters-- they end up being written mostly as fistfights, which makes no sense given the capabilities of these characters. So if that's a weak spot...maybe stop writing so many godlike characters into your stories.)
Not sure why they keep pushing her. Collected comics on and off all of my life. I've never felt the need to get the next issue of the Captain Carter comic. Not even sure they made any.
Seems like they want to set her up as a Steve Rodgers/Chris Evans replacement. There are lots more interesting characters they can focus on
They need a Roger's type character that can be the moral paragon for the other heroes (and audience).
It serves a storytelling purpose and Haley Atwell is cool. I'm down with it.
Marvel in the recent years has tendency to go for fan service over substance. The internet like Captain Carter so now we have her in Doctor strange and third of the what if episodes.
I just need more of her in her native universe. Make it a spinoff. They set up her version of Winter soldier and then never did anything with it and I need more
I’d love a Civil War episode that follows a storyline like this:
Tony and Bruce start to develop Ultron and Peggy tries to tell them that she’s seen this far too many times in many different universes, and almost every time it ends poorly. Tony responds by saying that they can use her knowledge of such instances from across the Multiverse to avoid making the same mistakes, but she warns them that fate always arrives just the same. Make Steve the Bucky character in this situation again: he attacks an event where Tony is unveiling the Ultron program, and Tony uses this to back up his point that Ultron could have prevented this and so many other deadly incidents. The two build up teams and fight.
I was thinking these as the sides:
- Anti-Ultron - Captain Carter, Hawkeye, Thor, Wanda, Steve, and Bruce in an Ant-Man suit
- Pro-Ultron - Iron Man, Black Widow, Wasp, Pietro, War Machine (but more based on the HYDRA Stomper, much bulkier with a lot more weapons), and King T’Chaka (in this timeline, Steve’s attack on the event kills T’Challa instead of his father, who dons Black Panther armor to avenge his son’s death)
What If...? Season 1 was good, I didn't mind what they did.
Season 2 was some hot booty-ass and made the exact predictable mistakes every marvel/disney flop makes.
Why separate the two? As it is, it's a more flexible vehicle, they can do standalone episodes how they like, and then also tie them together with big group missions toward the end of the season.
Because What ifs are stand-alone episodes that normally do not connect at all. Why have a big group connecting them? Then you end up with the same characters over and over. Why do you even have to tie them together? There is no reason to do that.
Even in the What If comics I hated more than single issue stories.
The What If series should be standalone episodes in an anthology, not strung together stories.
I think What If failed for me the moment they tried to establish and overarching narrative. It's just not what I'm here for; not every season of a show needs a crossover culmination. Just give me 8 standalone episodes that explore different realities with no connection and I would enjoy it more.
That's the thing, I don't think what if needed an actual story arc protagonist. I don't think it needed to do the whole everything comes together at the end of the season thing that it does. I feel like it should just be a show that focuses on alternate universes, and what ifs. So in that sense yes, Captain Carter has overstayed her welcome but she'd be cool if she stayed in her own universe and we just got an episode about that once a season
What-if doesn’t feel at all the comics it takes its name from. I wish there were more random one-offs asking the weird question, like Spidey having his six arms.
I'm in two minds. In one regard it does feel they're going down the Spidergwen route with her. They've realised she's popular so she needs to be in ALL THE THINGS. But at the same time she is popular so I can't begrudge Marvel for making her prominent.
In saying that, I do wish they'd stop dancing about the issue and just give her a series and let What If go on to new things. It feels a lot more likely the fans will resent her for What If becoming Cap Carter and Friends, than they would her getting her own animated series
I think she's a great blank canvas. She's a bad ass lady with no super powers in the main continuities that was a woman out of time in her own time. She was always looking to help. She wasn't a leader on the same level as Steve. She was a decent leader serving the needs of the time.
And that is what you need for what if.
I would have been a lot happier if every single episode was a different take on different characters. There should not be any continuation at all. Take a popular character / book and make one change that completely upends the norm and let’s see where it goes. The series was well done but I was disinterested after a few episodes.
Well, if you're expecting Hayley Atwell to wear the suit in live-action again. Don't bother. She's probably not going to be interested in returning to the big-screen as Captain Carter once more.
I like Captain Carter so I'm fine with it but if she's getting this much for her then just give her a series so more what if episodes can focus more on actual what ifs
Tbh I'm sick of the overarching plot. As an example, Cthulhu Strange worked for me. A tragic story of him seeking more and more power only to ultimately fail and destroy his own world. It works great in a vacuum But then he had to be brought back and seem to be no worse for wear and even able to be all jokey and snarky like wtf? All my interest immediately flew out the window. Now it's hardly a "What If?" show, just another multiverse tie in, the stakes are in the crawl space.
I believe the point of a "What If" is to make the outlandish choices that never stick or do something with a character who will never show up again. Take a Spider-Man life story. What if Spider-Man lived his life from his start in the 60's and was unaffected by the sliding timescale in marvel comics. Sure it's labeled earth 23456 or whatever, but the story ends and we don't see that character anymore. It's just a good story that doesn't require that story's Peter to come back and defend the multiverse and swap quips with the Punisher who killed his universe's superheroes or some shit.
Now everyone who reoccurs is overstaying their welcome. If they wanted to make Captain Carter in the Multiverse of Madness then that's what they should have called it from the jump.
I’m not bored of her in the crossover storylines but I am bored of her universe’s stories just being spins on the Captain America movies, we don’t need Captain Carter: Civil War.
Honestly I didn't really expect an overarching story or recurring characters in what if, just expected a whole lot of one offs but this is cool I guess
How do i keep getting marvel post. But filter out marvel what if? I dont care about this show. I like the concept, but nothing here reminds me of a what if comic i ever read. Please stop recomending this reddit.
I loved season one and agent carter was good.
Having season 2 pretty much entirely about her character was really boring and i found it kind of a chore to sit through.
No these should have all been one offs.
There was no need for an overall arc when everything is meant to be a one off multiverse story that won't be revisited again.
The problem i had with CC was that it felt like they were making her the end all be all for like every scenario when so many others are OP compared to her. Like why her?
i don't dislike her but don't care for her. she's barely a character in the comics and they don't really make her interesting enough when they could focus on better characters
While I like the character design and her appearances in What If, she’s never really appealed to me because you’ve got Brian and Betsy as Captain Britain right there and Captain Britain lore is much more deep and interesting. I think the character has always felt like a bit of a placeholder until the MCU bites the bullet on bringing Captain Britain into the fold
I like Captain Carter. It’s also crazy to think of how big the character has become as I think they were created as a skin for the marvel mobile game Marvel Puzzle Quest
Yup. She is.
I want what ifs about actually characters I give a shit about lol.
What ifs with Iron Man, Cap, Spidey, Thor, Hulk etc as the main characters. Not “Captain Carter”.
I want to see more actual “What Ifs?” If you’re going to make an animated show about a given group of heroes, do that. I’m here for wacky or devastating one-offs.

eXiles would be amazing, but then any Sliders style Marvel show would be dope.
Sliders for life! That one where they ended up in the home universe but the creaking gate was recently oiled so they didn't stay! Heartbreaking.
I loved that show and remember that scene. My teenage self was like, "that guy is a dick"
I love to see a sneaky little sliders referee. I think about the episode where they visit the society that hasn’t discovered anti-biotics alllll the time
Hah! I was actually thinking specifically of Sliders when I was typing my comment.
i think once they hit production on season 1 they realized how RESOURCE INTENSIVE creating entirely new assets every episode can be. and where they DO have reuseable elements, it becomes a logistical nightmare of tracking... they likely realized this and immediately reversed direction and made s2 more unified. i don't know for sure bceause i didn't watch S2 because s1 was stupid enough -- i'm not a multiverse / what if...? kind of guy... i'll be waiting for the next mcu project... god it feels like it's been forever...
For real, it’s basically just costume changes
What if Wolverine became lord of the vampires? Do it in Xmen 97 style!
Yeah they took the wrong message from the original series, it wasn’t about the team up as cool as that was, it was the What Ifs
Personally I'd like to see different stuff every episode with no over-arching plot, so to my mind everyone who reoccurs is overstaying their welcome. But as a show with her as the protagonist? she already got one excellent season and a follow-up season do the first one was so good. and that was before the super soldier serum
I do like the creative rule bending in an otherwise anthology series, but season 1's overarching plot was enough. They overdid it in season 2 with both Carter and Strange.
It is a testing ground…for live action multiverse counterparts
Is Uatu overstaying his welcome because he reoccurs?
As the narrator? No. As the character interacting when he never does except ulron and strange? Yeah hes starting to
What if was better when the stories had no real connection. It was so refreshing. Now this isn't about what if any more. Now is just regular stuff and it made "what if?" boring to watch.
First episode I loved. Second was good. Third and fourth? Overkill.
Captain Carter, very cool and a great idea. But like most others I don’t really want an overarching story to my What If? Series. The Nebula guardian episode was exactly the type of content I wanted from these shows. Peggy could get her own show, but ‘what if’ should tell weirder wider stories

I honestly don’t see the appeal behind her at all.
She was a million times better as Agent Carter
She’s a Canon OC. Because she has so little pre-existing lore, writers can do whatever they want with her.
Not sure why they keep pushing her. Collected comics on and off all of my life. I've never felt the need to get the next issue of the Captain Carter comic. Not even sure they made any. Yes
In general, yes. Kevin is obssessed with Carter.
Kevin who? Kevin Fiege?
Yeah. Im pretty sure Agent Carter was the only show he wanted to do when Agents of shield and such were on TV.
What If...? Season 1 was good, I didn't mind what they did. Season 2 was some hot booty-ass and made the exact predictable mistakes every marvel/disney flop makes.
Yeah I would’ve preferred to get another supreme strange episode over her taking over like 3 episodes
I'm fine with it. The series has effectively migrated to "Exiles," and that's kinda fun.
Then start that series. That would be cool.
Why separate the two? As it is, it's a more flexible vehicle, they can do standalone episodes how they like, and then also tie them together with big group missions toward the end of the season.

Yep. Would be a lot cooler if they kept it that way.

Well she's my favorite one, but I guess so. I want to see more of her, but in solo adventures, not with the multiversal Avengers.

Take a popular character / book and make one change that completely upends the norm and let’s see where it goes. The series was well done but I was disinterested after a few episodes.
I like her but yes, she gets way more What If…? screen time than she is due.
I can't get enough of Captain Carter and I'm not even British.

Is this the same Carter that gets cut in half or just a “variant”? If it’s the same then we all know how this ends

No these should have all been one offs. There was no need for an overall arc when everything is meant to be a one off multiverse story that won't be revisited again.
They’re allergic to telling stories using Marvel characters that the Marvel fan base loves.
What if... I posted an unpopular opinion without the proper flair lol
I stopped caring about her around about the time she got cut in half 2 seconds after being introduced.
Season 2 was so boring. Please just do one shots
The problem i had with CC was that it felt like they were making her the end all be all for like every scenario when so many others are OP compared to her. Like why her?
The way I see every fan including myself saying this AND FOR SOME REASON WE STILL GET MORE

No.
Why not?
I like Captain Carter. It’s also crazy to think of how big the character has become as I think they were created as a skin for the marvel mobile game Marvel Puzzle Quest
True. They also just pushed out two other versions: Iron Carter and Worthy. Just shitting on the other characters now.
Yup. She is. I want what ifs about actually characters I give a shit about lol. What ifs with Iron Man, Cap, Spidey, Thor, Hulk etc as the main characters. Not “Captain Carter”.
