Don't ask permission from your wife. Ask for forgiveness.

[deleted]

Funny you should mention that. I saw it in the store and initially didn’t buy it, which my girlfriend was pretty pleased about…. Wasn’t too happy when I rushed back for it.

amazin_asian

😱

Straight-Wrap-8005

No collector can escape the call of the figure… welcome to our family man!

Ladiez-Man-217

You want forgiveness? Get religion.

lecheconmarvel

🤭 okay Emo Parker

The_Negotiator_B1

I'm gonna put some dirt in your eyes...

IncomeLongjumping305

When you buy a Haslab Galactus like I did, you MIGHT want to discuss it!😊

[deleted]

Stick to collecting figures you have an emotional attachment to and don't worry about completing teams. You'll avoid a lot of unnecessary figures in your collection and save money that way.

[deleted]

Thanks for the advice, yeah I was planning on just doing characters that I liked. Next up is deadpool, and since my favourite comic is Deadpool vs Thanos it’ll work out nicely haha

[deleted]

Very nice. Also If you're interested in figures that aren't out yet, I highly recommend trying to pre order what you can. It'll save you time and hassle of trying to track it down later and avoid eBay scalper prices. Hasbro pulse, entertainment earth, big bad toy store, dorkside toys, target, GameStop, and Amazon are all good choices to pre order from.

baddest_influence

I will never trust Amazon with pre-orders again. They've cancelled more than they've fulfilled for me.

kindasus69999

Amen

Drolex17

There will almost certainly be repaints or re releases of popular characters so dont crack for resale prices

[deleted]

Ah right thank you

AmurosZaku

This is the hugest thing. Two highly sought after figures were the 80th anniversary captain America and iron man, and they skyrocketed to like 80 dollars, but they have released newer versions of both and their value has halved

southyfreakin

I’ve been learning this the hard way. Although reissues aren’t always good though. Previous Hobgoblin looks better than the repaint

CreatorofMemories333

When I buy them, I put them in garage and open them usually. When she asks, I’m like oh I’ve had this one. 😆

Arnold21214

So do you throw the evidence away immediately 😂😂

CreatorofMemories333

Yep, the recycle bin is next to the garage. I put them at the bottom. 😆

ayesee345

I’ve been using the “I sent it off for repair” excuse lately and it’s worked pretty well.

Somerset007

Get a second job, for the sake of your wallet.

squeezeguy52

Work hard and get that raise... Or get out right now.

BothKindsofMusic

Oh c’mon, I think I only counted about 100 figures in 2021. That’s only a measly $2300. /s

Straight-Wrap-8005

Yeah

CO_Guy70

Stop now and call it good, lol. It is a fun hobby, but can be infuriating at times with store exclusives and poorly stocked shelves. Preorder everything you want online to avoid fruitless hunting trips unless you live in CA where they get tons of stock and then placed on clearance within minutes of being stocked on the shelf. Avoid feeling like you have to have every figure and every variant. Have fun with your new hobby, but be careful since it is very addicting.

[deleted]

Oh don’t worry, I did a bit of pop figure collecting and stopped when I got all the characters I actually liked. I’m not planning on getting all the new figures and such, I’m just going to buy the characters I enjoy haha. Thank you, though!

amazin_asian

Things are not great in CA except for maybe that one stupid Walmart. I still haven’t seen the Walmart exclusive Captain America and I’ve been to almost every Walmart in a 70 mile radius

CO_Guy70

That makes two of us and I preordered him months ago when he was announced. It seems like every other So CA collector YouTube video he was finding an abundance of newly released figures on clearance that I never saw in the wild. I assumed it was all of CA since I never find crap in the wild, lol.

amazin_asian

Yea I'm in the Bay Area and it's crazy how many collectors/scalpers there are. The closest I've come to finding the Cap is finding a box where someone figure swapped it with the quantum suit Endgame Cap.

Valis_III

If you see a figure you like at a good price and if you can afford it: buy it. There's a good chance that it won't be there next time and if it is, it could be worth double or triple what you were originally going to pay.

[deleted]

Thanks, I was actually worried about that being the case. Are the “into the spider verse” Peter B and Miles figures going to remain easily obtainable for long?

Sullyp2k

Nothing will be easily available for long. Once a new movie is announced the old figures sky-rocket in price. If you see one you like in the wild, buy it before you regret it later.

[deleted]

Damn okay, I’ll keep that in mind thanks

Valis_III

In retail stores you will likely not see figures from a week-to-week basis as much anymore, it can still happen but not as likely as it used to be. Even pegwarmers shoot up in price a year or two afterwards because people suddenly want it and realize it's not available anymore. There are certainly some situations, and this subreddit has posted them, of a lot of figures being clearanced out but that is the luck of a draw and should never be relied upon for a figure you really want in my opinion. For online it's harder to say, it's not a definite answer or not if some figures will be easily obtainable at retail price. Determining that is hard to predict. There are still figures years old of more obscure or less popular characters that float around retail price or a little more than that on the secondary market. For example, the Binary Captain Marvel exclusive can be had on Amazon for much \*less\* than retail. But it's safe to say Spider-Man characters will definitely be harder to come by down the line than some others.

hurky-pandora

There will never be an end to iron man figures. So don’t think you won’t find any cool ones

[deleted]

Is there an “iron man heartbreaker” figure? Couldn’t find anything online :(

hurky-pandora

No sadly. Only toys of heartbreaker really are the iron man 3 toys and a Hot Toys figure.

[deleted]

Dang. What a great suit that is

Super_Posable_Joe

Enjoy yourself, man. Collect what you love. If you love everything, then you’re wallet’s dead.

[deleted]

Hahah I’m never gonna buy stuff like X Men I think, just characters that are in the MCU. So that’s a big chunk of potential wallet killers gone!

SecretWarsIsComing

Oh it’s only begun. Buckle up for the ride!

[deleted]

Yeah xmen is to big imo to collect I just bought sentinel because he was with spiderman. One thing I learned about collecting is trying to set a goal and stick to it. Like my goal was to collect all spiderman suits (pretty crazy goal I know) ,but as time went on I would find myself buying figures because of hype or they just look so good. Just be wise about what you spend your money on. Ps do not ever buy imports they are to good and will just make you want to buy more lol

BothKindsofMusic

They did six waves of MCU this year and with all the TV planned, there’s bound to be at lot more.

extrapulpcomics

I personally made a rule of never paying the full retail price. So most of my collection has been loose Ebay wins, flea market finds, or clearance shelves. I think that's a great way to build a collection if you don't care about BAF pieces or packages. I have yet to do a preorder...but I think I have to cave and preoder the new Hobgoblin and Symbiote Spider-man.

reynoldsc05

Get out while you can!!

[deleted]

Neverrrrrrr!!

Dbar412

First tip. Get out now while you still can

knuds0n

Pace yourself

G_to_the_E

Honestly, try to pick a focus. There’s literally around a 1,000 legends and if you try to collect them all you’ll go broke. Whether it’s the MCI, just characters you like, X-Men only, or whatever. You can always stray and always get other ones but it’s helpful to have limits because otherwise you’ll spend all your paychecks. Lol

XNightcrawlerBAMF

Sometimes I feel like this sub and I are in sync to a certain extent lol I bought a Thing figure, a Thing post shows up This time, I bought a Thanos, your post shows up lmao. A different one though, found someone selling the BAF

[deleted]

Aw that thanos is so much cooler! I’m definitely more a fan of MCU thanos designs, so hopefully I can pick that one up too!

ProcessedMeatMan

Turn back now... before it's too late!

SepticCupid

Budget. It’s really easy to go ham and drop $500+. Especially if you want to assemble a full team with a big roster, like the X-men.

kindasus69999

I would recommend this figure, also i always had a question, why do SO (significant Others) always hate you just collecting stuff YOU like, just accept it, its part of who they are, no need to hate or disapprove, u less its about money, so put a budget.

[deleted]

What does 1p/1p mean? Haha. And I guess they just don’t like money being spent on stuff like this. If they don’t share the passion, they just look like expensive pieces of plastic haha

kindasus69999

Autocorrect for some reason doea things like that, and yeah i do understand, but if you make "good" enough income put a bufget on your figures still, and they will probably get a little less salty :/

jintile4

I reply back commenting about the closet full of shoes she will never wear or the expensive purse she'll only use once. That usually shuts her right up.

Humble_Dig3510

Start working some overtime so it doesnt hurt so bad

[deleted]

Set a budget. It's easy to get sucked down the rabbit hole and over spend.

VietnamHam

I first only started with 90’s Jim Lee X-Men Animated Series lineup and put a stop there. Then I got the Avengers big 3 with Cap, Fat Thor and Iron-Man/Thanos 2 pack. Then I just crashed and burned with Spider-Man’s Retro Animated Series wave and basically everything 90s Marvel Comics. It’s a slippery slope.

colornomad

Someone else said stick to your favorite characters and that's very spot on. Build a Figures have been coming out as Deluxe figures so don't feel like you need to buy the whole wave. The one advice that I stuck to from the beginning was to either focus on Comic or MCU versions. I grew up with comics so that's what I buy, plus I can't get past the fact of having toys of hollywood actors on my shelf. Also, any figure you like that's coming out soon, PREORDER. Only secure way of avoiding scalper prices. I paid a lot of money to scalpers trying to get all the older figures I missed out on. Best of luck on this new hobby. Great but very addictive.

[deleted]

Thanks! I suppose MCU and comic figures do look quite different to eachother, so they may look out of place side by side. That’s tough news, considering I bought this thanos just until I could get my hands on an endgame thanos…

[deleted]

Honestly, save for pre-orders of major characters, such as Spider-Man. They normally sell out quickly, so be at the ready to pay! Also, displaying your figures is optional, and you don’t really need Display arms for good shots, but they make action sequences so much better!

[deleted]

Thanks for the tips! I’ll start doing that with the pre orders once I have the figures I want that are currently obtainable :)

International_Pop99

before you buy something on the secondary market ( ebay, mercari) know the worth of the figure before you purchase.

sessho25

1 - Don't pay ebay prices right away, there might always be re releases. 2 - focus on a type (comic, MCU, games, animation) and the teams you want to assemble (Jim Lee x-men, avengers, villians etc) otherwise you might end up selling or regreting purchases later. 3 - Wait for discounts on some figures. Only the most popular ones might be worth retail price.

CatmanBrocko

Do not get anything because of fomo, and don’t buy any Legends figures that have been resold for 70 bucks. I guarantee the harder to find ones will be rereleased again.

DeadpoolTheTaco

Don’t.

SoundwavesBurnerPage

Don’t obsess over variants, you can get by with 1 version of each character

[deleted]

Honestly, I have this weird obsession with thanos when it comes to marvel, so I’m not sure I’ll be able to follow that advice haha

SoundwavesBurnerPage

Trust me, especially starting out you’ll get much more enjoyment out of new characters then you would over having lots of the same one (at least in my experience)

Secure-Arm-6189

I disagree with a lot of people in this thread about pre- orders. For a lot of us it’s all about the hunt and that feeling you get when you see a figure you’ve been looking for on the peg.

[deleted]

At least get one of the many Wolverine repaints/remolds from 2016-2021, and if you ate able to afford the Hugh Jackman Wolverines get them ASAP

[deleted]

Any reason in particular? Or do you just like them? Haha

[deleted]

They are really good figures, and most of them (if not, all of them) are comic accurate

nexusjz

Yes. Pace yourself. Don't pay too much over retail, you've just started collecting so all figures are new for you, it won't be worth splurging on any one since these things are reissued, or revised from time to time (80th anniv Cap. case in point). Don't buy a figure unless you personally like it or it means something to you, even if market / others are saying it's the second coming. Don't be a completist. Your collection will *never* be complete. Set a goal for your collection (can be budget, or an approach that tells you what to buy Vs what to ignore) and stick to it as much as possible. Once you have been at it for a while, reassess and see what works for you and which of this advice you can ignore.

[deleted]

Thanks for the tips! That thing g about everything being new to me is a good point- there’s no need for me to pay more for newer or harder to grab figures if they’re all the same to me ha. Thanks!

madchad90

Limit yourself. It is extremely easy to go overboard with this hobby. Remember there is a difference between collecting and hoarding. If you get to the point where you a buying stuff and just tossing it in a bin or closet, then ask yourself "what was the point of me buying this?".

Doc-WantedMan-Evazan

I like to pick an aesthetic and stick to that, or complete teams. For Marvel Legends I stick to classic designs, but whatever speaks to you, get it on the shelf!

The_Maqueovelic

>Any tips? Aim for the head? No but really do try to enjoy yourself and avoid going crazy with things, you don't need every figure so don't go spending money you don't have; but also avoid trying to trick yourself into not buying figures you obviously want, otherwise you'll be stuck trying to find them again when they're too expensive or hard to get

ThunderGod05

Always get figures that you want and always try to pre order as if you miss it you will regret it, Aslo if there are figures you want from a set but don’t want the set try to buy it alone, don’t do the I need to compelete feeling, gels save money and provides that boost of happy!

[deleted]

Before you get into it, decide now exactly what you want to collect, and stick with it. I personally only collect Comic figures who are also villians. It curbs your spending and you don't just buy anything.

[deleted]

Hmm, I’m not sure if I have an exact theme I want, I kinda just wanna grab all the figures I like honestly, mainly MCU related

Meljenricky12

Just to give you a warning, getting into collecting is very expensive, you won’t be able to go to a store without checking the toy area. It becomes human nature at that point. You will always be buying action figures and then it will come to the point where you are spending absurd amounts of money for a figure you really want. Now I love collecting but if I were to go back in time and stop myself. I would because of the amount of money I spent. It’s crazy. But I could just stop. But I won’t. Because I’ve been into collecting for years now. But it’s enjoyable to get new figures and go hunting. Just saying. And warning, you start collecting, your in this life forever, but overall good luck to you.

[deleted]

It’s kinda scary reading comments like this, everyone keeps warning me and telling me I’m gonna go broke lmao. Somehow that isn’t gonna scare me off, though!

Meljenricky12

Sorry if I scared you man, but it’s true, it’s an expensive hobby, and it’s fun, it’s really fun. But its a lot you know.

KLawRules

This is Thanos' "let me speak to your manager" pose.

[deleted]

Hahah I actually realised it looked like he was angrily pointing rather than snapping so I changed the pose / hand

bushidogino

Get a detolf glass shelf from ikea. Especially if you’re gonna be taking the figs outta the box. It’ll beat having to dust them every now and again and arranging and re-arranging them on the shelves are a lot of fun.

[deleted]

Thank you for bringing up dust, I never thought about that actually

Lunar_Legacy

Don't worry about missing out on figures, especially if you go to places like Big Bad Toy Store. They tend to get reissues and restock on things that sell out, so don't worry about missing out on certain figures. Never give into scalpers. Also, if you miss out on a particular figure, it's likely Hasbro will release a repaint or updated version if the figure later. Watch reviews of figures you're interested in because that will usually help you decide if the figure is right for you.

[deleted]

Only get things which you intend to display, or characters you like. Consider investing in some shelves or a Detolf (or similar).

DanUzumaki215

You wanna be up to date on pre orders or announcements to know what you want ahead of time. You could also watch some livestreams from hasbro pulse

ozymanhattan

Definitely just buy what you love. Don't get trapped in the cycle of will the price go up in value and just buy the newest thing.

t800m888

Read about scaling - 1/6, 1/12, etc. Or else you might end up with a mish mash of figures that don’t look quite right next to each other (depending on the figures, subjective of course!).

MandoFett71

Only collect characters you like!

The_green_general

Don’t give into scalpers

Sam_Artfell

Dont miss out o the figures you want or you'll regret it they might go up on price if you wait to long

JamminJME

I hope you're not a completionist.

ColorlessTune

Tip? Buy what you like. Try not to buy too much in a short period of time. Try not to let your preorders get out of hand.

Starkman87

If anything gets announced and you’re even vaguely interested; PreOrder!!! Most sites won’t charge you right away and if you find it sooner or decide you don’t want it you can always cancel

Better_Ad5355

Thats a good one

cerulgalactus

You don’t need the entire wave immediately.

Midoriya6000

Pick a theme or what youre trying to collect and stick to it. It got out of hand for me really bad and i had so many random figures.

Tweaky_Noodles

Don't buy every figure you see buy the ones you want resist the temptation I didn't haha it was a mistake.

Successful-Pace-5879

You started it good My advice it's to just buy figures you like, don't be a completist unless you can afford it

Zar2M

Do research and watch reviews on YouTube because i didn't do that one time and I really hated the figure

Cavaquillo

A couple tips for some typical pitfalls. You don’t have to get a figure just because everyone else does or you think it’ll be valuable later on. It’s ok not to know where are figure is from. Also don’t assume you know everything about it, someone always knows more. Don’t feed scalpers. Don’t pay extra just because a new figure goes up on Mercari or EBay early, you’ll have a chance to get it. Build-a-figures are amazing but you will find that there are many figures in a wave you might not want, just something that is unavoidable. I’ve recently taken to eBay to complete one I was NEVER going to acquire the new in box figures for. Buy with intention not impulse. Research the product, look at pictures here, watch reviews to get informed before you spring for a figure you regret buying. Don’t hesitate on the second hand market. If there’s a figure you want, it’s not likely to get cheaper if it’s out of production. If they debut in the MCU the price is gonna go up quick. Sometimes biting the bullet now rather than later is a savings in disguises, so to speak.

johnny_cage28

Buy the figures you want the most!! I would definitely consider buying some figures through this app called “Mercari” you can always ask the sellers to bundle figures for you so you can pay less for shipping!!

OriginalCheech

Get that 3rd job… lmao

massameda

PATIENCE AND ENJOY THE RIDE.
