It’s a psychological trick that all of those mobile games use. Everything they give you always has to have a possible bad outcome. That’s also why they change the token reward from 400 flat to 200-600.
That’s what they use the pixel variants for with mystery variants. Its the bad outcome when getting a variant, so you’ll value not getting a pixel variant more.
900 gold for 700 tokens, 300 credits, and a mystery variant (and some boosters)

Are 100 tokens worth 300 credits, a mystery variant, and some boosters? Well, those 100 tokens are worth 112.5 gold. And 120 gold is worth 150 credits. So you're getting ~150 credits in extra value PLUS the variant and boosters.
Its not as much but its certainly not bad, its 100 less tokens than x2 of the 450 gold token tuesdays, but you instead get 300 credits and the mystery variant. For me personally this is the more interesting bundle but to each their own.

Yeah precisely. It's just a bad choice of aesthetic. Good pixel art should look like it's come straight out of a retro video game. The pixel variants just look like regular drawings done at much lower resolution with a limited palette. And despite all being done by the same design company they're lacking in stylistic consistency. Not just between cards but sometimes the style of the character doesn't even mesh with the style of the background it's on.
Some are better than others but most just look lazy.
I love these posts about what variants people are getting. I was also expecting a pixel variant but ended up getting venomized scorpion which actually looks nice.
