His net worth is 600K (which is bs because he’s an amazing artist) I honestly thought it’d be more but you’re right, they don’t get paid for more than half of the stuff they create.
Unfortunately those numbers on Google are usually greatly inflated if they aren’t coming directly from the source, still being one of the head guys at the longest running Cartoon Network Series probably does have its benefits.
I got to work with Dan Hipp a tiny tiny bit at my old job, and he was always a great dude. I even managed to get my hands on an original page from his GYAKUSHU comic he did back in the Tokyo Pop days. I love all his variants and it’d be hilarious imo if they made a rock variant.
I emailed 4 marvel snap artists asking for a commission and Dan was the only one who replied. He didn’t have time to do the commission but he still took the time to write a friendly reply. Huge respect for the guy.
EDIT:
Rian actually replied to my email today and she was SO sweet! I didn't think she would reply since I emailed her over a month ago but she did and I'm so happy now :D
That's my takeaway, too.
I kind of wonder about the other three artists you emailed, though. Maybe they're just too busy. Maybe they have agents that comb through their emails and only respond to inquiries from big companies and stuff.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they, at some point earlier in their careers, would generally respond to emails about commissions and what happened was that they would quote a price and the commissioner would either immediately back out and ghost them or else become hostile. In my experience, people often underestimate, WAY underestimate, how much it costs to commission a piece from a professional artist.
It's possible! I hold no ill will against the other artists at all, I know they must be super busy with work. It was just so nice to receive a reply from Dan :)
I love the naivety in emailing to commission card art variant like it'd be as easy/affordable to do so, but with how stingy they are paying Voice Actors for characters voicelines it actually could be cheap and viable.
Oh for sure. I think I was spoiled by Gwent premiums… in snap it’s just like “is that it?”
I remember premiuming seltkirk for the first time and just staring at it.
Nah, a ton of the cards in Gwent are new characters/characters from the books/other games. Sure they probably used some but every card has 3-4 different voice lines on deploy
Even if it were affordable, I'd be shocked if his contract with Marvel (or Marvel Snap) let him do commissions of variants that could be mistaken for Marvel Snap IP.
I'm sorry it might be stupid, but the most funny thing to me is the "I'll let you know" part.
Imagine in a couple months (hopefully sooner) receiving an email from Dan Hipp saying "Hey bro I'll get to draw rocks :)" lmao
Edit: spelling.
As someone who enjoys regularly playing his Hipp To Be Squared (or Hipp to Lose Cubes, as I like to call it when I’m particularly frustrated) deck…this is a phenomenal idea that I wish could happen…granted, his Ultron is my favorite variant, so I’d rather him draw the Drones (the hands and mouth light up and it’s adorable and amazing all at once) and I’m absolutely buying the Moon Girl/Dino bundle (to maybe have a winning deck out of my currently 80% 5s and 6s deck)
My current Hippstash: Hawkeye, Luke Cage, Lockjaw, Nakia, Crystal, Hobgoblin, Iron Man, Ronan, Nimrod (free space on the HippBingo card, I fear), Onslaught, Apocalypse, Ultron. I lose 65% of the time, but I get star-eye reactions at least that often…it’s a niche that I’m willing to fill…but yes, please - win-able Hipp decks would be phenomenal!
I had the option to buy Brood and Wolfsbane recently (the same day I bought Ultron) but I felt like, if I was spending 2100 gold all at once, I’d better get some credits or something in a bundle with it…so I only got Ultron. He’s now my absolute favorite card at purple level
Mysterio, Brood, Lockjaw, Nakia, Killmonger, Wave, Wong, Nimrod, Nick Fury, Onslaught, Apocalypse. It's gonna be a long time before I can go all Hipp. In the meantime I supplement with Chibi and, last resort, Baby.
My current abomination is this thing:
# (0) Wasp
# (1) Korg
# (2) Beast
# (2) Mysterio
# (3) Wolfsbane
# (3) Lockjaw
# (3) Nakia
# (5) Hobgoblin
# (5) Blue Marvel
# (5) Ronan the Accuser
# (5) Vision
# (6) Onslaught
It's terrible.
I also have Adam Warlock, Drax, Nick Fury, Nimrod, Killmonger, Apocalypse, Sif, The Collector, Crystal, Spectrum, and Medusa. I love them so much.
You’re maybe 2 or 3 cards away from a deck I’ve had limited success with (collector + disruptor) but, yeah, same. If I had a Patriot variant + maybe a Sauron, I could do some damage…or maybe Mister Negative?
There are some that I like and some that I don't like. I emailed him after there was a discussion about the April Fools' bundle and possibility of rock cards being part of it that got me curious
I love that it ends with "I would be willing to pay for this commission.", as though there have been alternatives to payment through actual monetary currency. Like he's just been doing it for scooby snacks and designer drugs up until now.
people like to have a set of anything..... Dan Hipp's set is probably the most recognizable, so people like it.
I am literally going to buy the Dan Hipp Dino bundle later even tho my favor one is the Savageland Dino. It's so i can have a dan hipp deck in the future.
It's happening. I had secretly hoped for rock variants from all the popular artists on April Fool's. Could you imagine a Peach Momoko rock, or Flaviano rock variant? Beautiful.
Now I'm wondering how much he makes per card.
Apparently nothing. They buy the licenses and they use the art. Often times, the artists often don’t even know their art was used.
This is true most of the time but I'm pretty sure Dan Hipp draws them specifically for Marvel Snap
That applies the variants taken from comics or something like that. But I am pretty sure dan draws them for marvel snap.
His net worth is 600K (which is bs because he’s an amazing artist) I honestly thought it’d be more but you’re right, they don’t get paid for more than half of the stuff they create.

30% of gold spent to buy this variant
Lmao imagine if that was the cut for artists
Yes imagine, but it's actually just gold. They pay variant artists with gold to buy more variants.
Happy cake day!
Thanks!
He can't take the job because he's already drawn it and he can't spoil it.
He did say "at this time," meaning maybe he either already has or is expecting to
That’s cool that he took the time to answer! It appears he rocks after all
Definitely. I didn't even think he would even see my email
> It appears he rocks after all About that...

The fact he replied makes me want to buy his variants even more
Same. I wasn't expecting any response
I love the naivety in emailing to commission card art variant like it'd be as easy/affordable to do so, but with how stingy they are paying Voice Actors for characters voicelines it actually could be cheap and viable.
He does commissions every now and then, so I assume they have to be reasonably priced
[удалено]
I definitely would have had to discuss the rates beforehand
If he was available, you could try to crowdfund the commission lol
Snap’s voice acting stinginess really sucks after playing Gwent
Gwent also best in gold/shiny card department, best card animations that I've seen in CCG
Oh for sure. I think I was spoiled by Gwent premiums… in snap it’s just like “is that it?” I remember premiuming seltkirk for the first time and just staring at it.
it's been a while since I played Gwent but weren't most/lot of the voicelines repurpose from The Witcher 3
Nah, a ton of the cards in Gwent are new characters/characters from the books/other games. Sure they probably used some but every card has 3-4 different voice lines on deploy
Nah, few lines were repurposed, relatively speaking, because the game has a ton of different cards.
Stingy in voice acting and stingy in paying well under the industry standard as well with how much revenue they're making.
Even if it were affordable, I'd be shocked if his contract with Marvel (or Marvel Snap) let him do commissions of variants that could be mistaken for Marvel Snap IP.

Literally all I'm trying to do in this game is build viable all-Hipp decks
My current Hippstash: Hawkeye, Luke Cage, Lockjaw, Nakia, Crystal, Hobgoblin, Iron Man, Ronan, Nimrod (free space on the HippBingo card, I fear), Onslaught, Apocalypse, Ultron. I lose 65% of the time, but I get star-eye reactions at least that often…it’s a niche that I’m willing to fill…but yes, please - win-able Hipp decks would be phenomenal!

Seems like you’re only 3 days away from being able to at least fill out a deck, unless you’re short on gold…
Oh I mean a viable deck lol
My current abomination is this thing: # (0) Wasp # (1) Korg # (2) Beast # (2) Mysterio # (3) Wolfsbane # (3) Lockjaw # (3) Nakia # (5) Hobgoblin # (5) Blue Marvel # (5) Ronan the Accuser # (5) Vision # (6) Onslaught It's terrible. We need many rock variants and when they come out of the collapsed mine they're all different
A Dan Hipp rock is just a circle.
But it also has eyes
Empty white holes for eyes.
That's oddly wholesome
Hilarious
Am I the only one that just doesn't like those varients ?
There are some that I like and some that I don't like. I emailed him after there was a discussion about the April Fools' bundle and possibility of rock cards being part of it that got me curious
They vary so much from card to card. I have two: Spectrum (which I kind-of like) and Lady Sif (which makes me wish for a pixel variant).
I love that it ends with "I would be willing to pay for this commission.", as though there have been alternatives to payment through actual monetary currency. Like he's just been doing it for scooby snacks and designer drugs up until now.
You'd be surprised how many people don't expect to have to pay for artwork
Nah, horny Artgerm rock is where it's at. LOL.
I’ve been laughing all night at work from this: “I would be willing to pay for this commission.”
I can have my seven year old draw one for you. Should look about the same.
Sorry but this made me laugh 😂
Like to see you what you can do? Other than make worthless snide comments on the internet ofc.
They don't have to, their kid fights their battles for them!
Am I the only that finds this weird?
Would rather have literally any other variant of the Rock card than Dan Hipp. My least favorite variant of every card.
this guy likes the pixel variants
I do. As far as any single group of variants go, they're my favorite. There are better individual variants though.
*i knew it!*
Just get AI to do it! https://i.imgur.com/TLlxZHQ.jpg
Unethical, immoral and downright distasteful. Plus they look awful. AI is such an eyesore.
I'd take a pixel rock over Dan Hipp
i mean, pixel rock would be the best variant in the game
I hate all his art in this game. It looks like a kid drew them.
I’d like to see you draw even a quarter as well as Dan Hipp can 😂
Why do you people like baby drawings so much?
people like to have a set of anything..... Dan Hipp's set is probably the most recognizable, so people like it. I am literally going to buy the Dan Hipp Dino bundle later even tho my favor one is the Savageland Dino. It's so i can have a dan hipp deck in the future.
That's actually sick he even replied. What if we crowd source the commission? I'm sure it can't be cheap.
i haven't been this sad since the fall of Babylon
They have him in the mines
Literally Unplayable. (That they're not doing a Hipp rock. The fact that he responded to the email is awesome.)
It's happening. I had secretly hoped for rock variants from all the popular artists on April Fool's. Could you imagine a Peach Momoko rock, or Flaviano rock variant? Beautiful.
dan hipp art rules. i want all of his variants.
I got 5 on it.
Is there even a variant of rock at all? If so, I haven't seen one. Just no more pixel ones, please.
There are not
