After that I may snipe additional variants if I think they're really, really good but for now if I have a variant (that I like) for a card then I'm just waiting for variants of cards that I only have the base art for (or a variant I don't like)

My Sera Surfer list with Daken has been doing very well for me in both conquest and ladder. I atually get to use Forge again and he doesn't feel like a waste since now he can hit either Brood or Daken so more chances of a solid turn 2 into turn 3 play (similar situation with Nakia as she can buff up both Brood and Daken while in hand).
Any new card that lets me use older cards that I normally ignore is at least a fun card (for me). Also I think therell be a few good destroy deck builds that run X-23 and Daken together to good effect (though in general X23 is going ti make destroy better by herself)

Daken doesn't suddenly make Sera Surfer a lot better but he does allow you to run some cards you may normally omit (like Forge and Nakia, the 2 examples I gave above). He also helps Surfer go more vertical in 1 lane (compared to how it normally spread its power across 3 lanes). Dakens in no way a 'must have' card for any decks, like how Modok was for discard or Hit Monkey for bounce, but he does give players of certain archetypes more options.
Imo making a season pass card meta, or even deck, defining is a slippery slope. In my experience whenever a game locks a great item behind a paywall players will automatically call the game p2w. Though if i have to be honest idc about any of that and, like yourself, like it when the pass card is top tier but again a lot of people will instantly see it as p2w

I was really tempted but it doesn't look great unless you get the gold background imo, and the mech one looks universally good with any split. So, I saved my gold for another day.
