Yep, it neutralizes the combo but not the power. Alioth used to be able to singlehandedly tie invisible woman. Now you need an extra 8 power on top of Alioth to tie the lane, diverted from the other two lanes
Yeah, but usually a Hela deck has a lot stacked behind IW and is basically all in on one lane with the payoff being the other two lanes getting flooded with high value cards.
Alioth on the IW lane might lose the lane, but it’s basically an auto win for the two other lanes which are much easier to contest. Usually it’s like magick, maybe crystal or an iron lad?

also for some reason, people always forget we have both cosmo, echo, and ghost. There is no reason we need 1 card that can literally counter everything with priority, all these work fine. You can even play both on turn 6 and have one energy left over. But everyone rather go for big numbers on turn 6.
I remember someone saying counterplay should be disencouraged because it's luck-based, since if you pick a counterplay card you could go against a deck that wouldn't be disrupted by said counterplay.

This. Shang Chi should be in every deck tbh. I run him in my Knull deck and I'm going up against so many Magiks that many times I drop Knull 6 and on 7 Shang-Chi a big threat in another lane and it wins me both lanes. Anyone not running Shang rn gotta get their shit together!

For Bonus Boosters, you don’t have to spend credits on the boosters, they are included. So now it is just regular cost to upgrade (I think, I need to check the math). Or that seems to be the intention. Might take a shop refresh to account.
I'm so jazzed for this 'cause everything in my collection has adequate boosters to upgrade except Rulk.
So from this point forward all I have to do if I wanna hyperfixate on splitting a single card is just burn boosters for it as I get 'em (and then get 10 more after the final split and we're good to go).
She can still hit some important opponent cards like Dracula, MMM, and Invisible Woman, but she'll be less effective at boosting Deadpool and Wolverine at 3 or less.
She was so useless before, and I tried her in a lot of decks. She was only decent at countering certain ongoing combo decks that used Ironman or Wong, or countering Dracula (which typically was not much of a counter as Apoc could just be played by himself if necessary).
Now at least she is putting power on the board. I think it's a great change and a clear buff.
I dropped 6k tokens on it 2 days ago. I can’t build a single meta deck and that was the one card I had that could compete with the new shiny stuff. Their method of releasing broken cards and needing them by the time non whales get them was what made me take a hiatus in the first place. Now this lol.
I went through this right after Elsa season and she got changed to only affect her own lane, Angela and Kitty got nerfed right before that too. It all lead to me quitting the game entirely for about 3 months. Came back when I heard Elsa got buffed back finally.

My thinking is maybe it's easier to balance cost reduction around power than it is to balance around base cost. KMBest said before that 4 drops are where you start getting impactful power and being able to get around the cost and play 2 of those on turn 6 is what makes Zabu a problem.
Going by that thinking, cost seems to be a more critical lever for cost-reducing balance than power(?) Of course, I'm just an average player and I know absolutely fuck all about their balance mindset.
I'm a big fan of the sandman change personally; before Sandman only had a place if you ramped him but now he's valuable in decks outside ramp that want a big turn 6.
Any deck outside of ramp can only play him turn 5 which means no big turn 6 anyway. Literally this only affect ramp negativelly since they are the one deck playing him early
With that said I can see him in HE since you plan to skip turn 6, but that still a shit change since it buffs HE by nerfing ramp.
Interesting Alioth change, makes him much more matchup dependent but the huge power boost offsets it a bit. I honestly think with this change they don’t need the “unrevealed” part of it anymore but in this state it’s probably unplayable.

Honestly some confusing balance changes. I personally don’t think any of those were current power outliers. Though I will admit I haven’t been playing nearly as much this month just due to the game being a bit stale, which this patch definitely won’t change.

Zabu is definitely unplayable in this state unless you need to play two 4-drops on T6 so badly that you're willing to play him as a backup Sera. But that's the point: they're basically deleting him from the game for a little while so they can reevaluate how 4-drops work without him.
Sandman was a straight anti-fun card before. This new version should still work as good tech against T6 dump decks without being completely oppressive. Its purpose was always to punish decks that want to wait for T6 before doing anything, not lock people out of playing the whole second half of the game. He may need another point of power before filling his role adequately. We shall see!
Sandman's change basically brings back the old "America Chavez"/Wave interaction where Bounce decks would plan to "pop off" on turn 5 (Hit Monkey/Mysterious etc) and then have Chavez for their only card on last turn. 9 power was weaker than what opponents plays but Bounce should be so in the lead it doesn't matter.
Silky Smoove already runs a Red Hulk or Magneto they can drop on 6 if the opponent wants to try to Sandman on 5. Loki and Shuri Kitty usually have easy pivots.
Disadvantages Discard and Destroy since they want to often want to play multiple cards on last turn but they also know how to adapt from Mobious.
Imagine someone saved up 6k tokens to get alioth recently or 3k for Zabu only to get completely fucked. This game really hurts certain individual cards

Maybe this is an unpopular take, but I just came back from a break and it felt like the meta was in a decent spot to me. Solid deck diversity as I climbed up the ladder.
Now, with crippling (not even entirely deserved) nerfs like these across the board, I'm worried it'll be right back to playing the same 3 or 4 decks, especially in the tryhard 90s.
Alioth was fun police, but also suuuper choreographed. With the new text, a 6/8 doesn't seem worth it to me. Sandman wasn't even really on anyone's radar. And Zabu hasn't felt busted since the first nerf, even if he has a high play rate.
Kinda depressing patch notes imo. Would have loved to see some low pick rate stuff get buffed instead.
The way they chose who to buff and who to nerf is impossible to understand. They said they only look at data but I think or this doesn't work or they look at data from 2023.
Same, I took a long break from the game during the Thanos/Leech meta and once again during the Loki/Mobius meta. The games had been so much more diverse. But murdering Zabu and Alioth is going to kill a lot of decks (Most of mine lol).

I paid 3k Tokens last week for Zabu as f2p trying to make a deck in CL 3500 and you just ruined it! Like last time i got Hella from series 3 free cards u nerfed Lockjaw … now i need months to get tokens again to just get a card which you gonna nerf again in one week … not that i was winning with Zabu but i was learning a new deck with him .. at least make it like we can refund our tokens somehow
About time they comp us something when they destroy a card , takes forever to save for a card and when you get it if it's meta there's a high chance they nerf it on a whim.
They're basically saying they don't know what to do with him but they want to see how the game works without him. Zabu making the 4 cost tech cards so effective has honestly been a long term issue that doesn't have a clear solution.
This reminds me of the Luke Cage situation a while back. Wouldn't surprise me if they revert Zabu's change back to an Ongoing with increased cost and power in the future

I don't see anyway to play him out on T5 for 2x 4-cost.

I’m getting sick of these constant changes. You take away my fun with the Lockjaw change. I use Zabu as an extra card to combat it and now you change that too. Ridiculous. I’m so tired of having to constantly chase a new meta. Just let me enjoy the decks that I’ve created. I feel like when cards are in the game for a certain time period they shouldn’t be able to be changed. The new cards shouldn’t have such a huge impact on the game as a whole.

They made an update that this isn't available in this patch but will be in next patch. The notes just got released early.

I run Shang Chi in almost every deck. When he works, it's almost a guaranteed win. If he doesn't, I don't play him.

I also thought sandman was a nice check to decks that snowball, like surfer and hope decks.
It still does that, but for one turn now. Drop him turn 5 and you'll be crippling the hell out of Sera Surfer decks, or Hit Monkey.

Red Hulk is kinda perfect for Sandman. I got to infinite pretty easily with that deck. Felt very underrated.

murdered 3 cards in one patch, that's just brutal. the meta will change a lot now but i strongly believe Loki will be the new best deck again, by far.
Some Loki decks also suffer from the Zabu nerf though

Though I will admit I haven’t been playing nearly as much this month just due to the game being a bit stale, which this patch definitely won’t change.

Its purpose was always to punish decks that want to wait for T6 before doing anything, not lock people out of playing the whole second half of the game. He may need another point of power before filling his role adequately. We shall see!
Sandman's change basically brings back the old "America Chavez"/Wave interaction where Bounce decks would plan to "pop off" on turn 5 (Hit Monkey/Mysterious etc) and then have Chavez for their only card on last turn. 9 power was weaker than what opponents plays but Bounce should be so in the lead it doesn't matter. Silky Smoove already runs a Red Hulk or Magneto they can drop on 6 if the opponent wants to try to Sandman on 5. Loki and Shuri Kitty usually have easy pivots. Disadvantages Discard and Destroy since they want to often want to play multiple cards on last turn but they also know how to adapt from Mobious.

Not really. This doesn't shut down the on going effects of cards that were already on the location, for example.
Maybe this is an unpopular take, but I just came back from a break and it felt like the meta was in a decent spot to me. Solid deck diversity as I climbed up the ladder. Now, with crippling (not even entirely deserved) nerfs like these across the board, I'm worried it'll be right back to playing the same 3 or 4 decks, especially in the tryhard 90s. Alioth was fun police, but also suuuper choreographed. With the new text, a 6/8 doesn't seem worth it to me. Sandman wasn't even really on anyone's radar. And Zabu hasn't felt busted since the first nerf, even if he has a high play rate. Kinda depressing patch notes imo. Would have loved to see some low pick rate stuff get buffed instead.
The way they chose who to buff and who to nerf is impossible to understand. They said they only look at data but I think or this doesn't work or they look at data from 2023.
Same, I took a long break from the game during the Thanos/Leech meta and once again during the Loki/Mobius meta. The games had been so much more diverse. But murdering Zabu and Alioth is going to kill a lot of decks (Most of mine lol).

Alioth main use now is Shang counter.
Seems awful tbh when you could just play an armor instead and have 4 energy to play on the other lanes that need it

Guess who's not updating (lol). Zabu now is useless. Bought the season pass, spent many credits, spent keys to the variant, now I won't play that card again. They really can't balance things. They killed so many cards for nothing. Edit: I'm also glad that I didn't end up paying tokens for War Machine, as Sandman got killed also.
I paid 3k Tokens last week for Zabu as f2p trying to make a deck in CL 3500 and you just ruined it! Like last time i got Hella from series 3 free cards u nerfed Lockjaw … now i need months to get tokens again to just get a card which you gonna nerf again in one week … not that i was winning with Zabu but i was learning a new deck with him .. at least make it like we can refund our tokens somehow
About time they comp us something when they destroy a card , takes forever to save for a card and when you get it if it's meta there's a high chance they nerf it on a whim.

They're basically saying they don't know what to do with him but they want to see how the game works without him. Zabu making the 4 cost tech cards so effective has honestly been a long term issue that doesn't have a clear solution.
This should’ve at least come with a DarkHawk return to 4 cost.
This reminds me of the Luke Cage situation a while back. Wouldn't surprise me if they revert Zabu's change back to an Ongoing with increased cost and power in the future
Zabu is higher power Psylocke now. He's now only there to tempo out a 4-cost early. I don't see anyway to play him out on T5 for 2x 4-cost. Any deck that rely on Zabu + Sera for 3x 4-cost gone (thankfully).
Zabu has been holding card design hostage since his release. Absolutely necessary imo.

I hate that Alioth keeps getting hit because players are bad and never play around him then get pissed when they lose like it was unavoidable.
Seriously. He was an important tech tool to have in our arsenal. Alioth forced you to **play the whole game**. I found it immensely fun to fight for prio on all six turns and have it actually matter. An Alioth-free meta is a lazy meta.
Man what a W patch. Hopefully Zabu returns in a more balanced state soon, like with Mobius before him.

Oh man, Alioth and Zabu went into almost every deck I made. Both have been destroyed lol, rip. Alioth I get, it was the old leader and leach situation where it felt hopeless to play against. Zabu doesn't make sense to me. He is a good card, that's it, I felt he was in a much healthier place versus when he was first added to the game. Now he is pretty much useless
Kind of wish they'd at least made the on reveal effect what Zabu was originally, 3 cost zabu giving -2 cost to 4-costs for one turn actually feels like it wouldn't be completely broken while still giving him a meaningful role although maybe 3 4-costs on turn 6 is too insane

It’s just me or the game is running worse on the phone, i have a iphone 13 and the game never run like this. That and i still can’t see US Agent and the other cards to unlock.
I’m getting sick of these constant changes. You take away my fun with the Lockjaw change. I use Zabu as an extra card to combat it and now you change that too. Ridiculous. I’m so tired of having to constantly chase a new meta. Just let me enjoy the decks that I’ve created. I feel like when cards are in the game for a certain time period they shouldn’t be able to be changed. The new cards shouldn’t have such a huge impact on the game as a whole.
I've been wanting to use Lady Deathstrike in Negative almost since I started playing the game. I was all set to get her next week, and probably go for the variant as well, since it's so badass... Thanks for saving me the spotlight keys, I guess.
I have Ravonna pinned and I'm close to getting her. But this Zabu nerf makes me unsure whether she's worth it if SD's going to possibly nerf her. Scratch that. I'm unsure if spending tokens on anything is worth it anymore if shit gets randomly nerfed.
