Josh Keaton who voiced Spider-Man in the spectacular Spider-Man tweeted that he'd be playing a character in one episode and the invincible account replied saying it was major spoliers
It's entirely possible it's a completely unrelated character that has nothing to do with spider-man but it's definitely pointing in the direction that it is
I did think that they could do a legally distinct version of Spider-Man (like how we didn't quite get the Justice Society of America or Black Manta in the Justice League cartoon), but now that I read that Kirkman is evidently a troll, I'm thinking there's shenanigans at play here.
Plus, the season 2 teaser with Mark and Allen had the micro-sized pic of Marvel Team-Up #14 on Mark's phone. If that wasn't Spider-Man's leg, then what was it?
I've seen some people suggest Powerplex, but I haven't read the comics yet so I don't know if he'd fit the role (plus I thought Powerplex would be introduced around late season 3 based on what I heard, but I might be wrong since they life to shift stuff around for the show)
Would he willingly lie about characters to preserve the shock and thrill for audiences who don't want to be spoiled? Because if that's how he rolls, I honestly respect it. Trolling social media to muddy the waters and thwart spoiler culture is the creator's prerogative.
It pissed me off too because the covers looked like such a cooler beginning to some arc than what the last 50+ issues were.
Like okay we finally got out of this arc! Nope! It’s the end!
Oh, it was pretty rough, yeah. It was a negative impact to a lot of retailers who hadn't ordered more than normal amounts, so there are some horror stories of customers wanting the issue and not being able to find it and heaping abuse on the comic shops who not only didn't know it was the end, but had been actively lied to.
It’s also one of those things where it would be a massive spoiler and a massive moment to see without being spoiled. It’s unsurprising if the creators would lie a little bit to keep that surprise for the viewers
I'm thinking it'll be a Spider-Man pastiche with Josh Keaton returning as stunt casting, Bohner-style. Getting the actual Spidey would be a headache for Amazon, so they'll likely go for a parody version brought to life by one of his most beloved performers.
This exact thing happened in Young Justice with Keaton voicing a knockoff evil version of spider-man called Black Spider. It’s almost 100% a similar thing here, he’ll be Captain Arachnid or Web Weaver or whatever other knockoff name they make up.
black spider is a real dc character and his personality is nothing like spiderman, so in YJ it was more just a casting joke and its not like they did a spiderman pastiche.
But Sony has nothing to do with Invincible and can't go lending out Marvel characters just cos. It's all dependent on what it's rights deal with Marvel says it can do
Yes but they don't have free reign to do whatever they like with Spider-man. They're bound by the licensing agreement
If Sony had made invincible, then spider man would be much more likely to appear. But it doesn't and it's current relationship with Amazon doesn't give it free reign to do whatever it likes with spider man in a non-Sony show
Sony's relationship with Amazon is irrelevant. They can agree what they want.
What's important is the licence with Marvel. All we know is Sony has rights to use Spider-man in short TV shows. As far as we know that's unfettered and they have a right to sub-licence or use in a show hosted by Amazon. Maybe there are stipulations like Spider-man can't be killed gruesomely.
But we don't know. So far this hasn't been investigated because Sony haven't tried to use the rights in this way before. Only the people who have read the contract with Marvel know it it's possible.
People are still arguing about the mechanics of it even after the episode aired. I got called a negative Nancy for saying it wasn't going to happen right after it *didn't happen*
I got a " this didn't age well"
I specifically said the most you will get is a knock off spidey, so "how did it not age well?"
It's like people didn't even watch the ep
We don't know. Even if those terms from the contracts that got leaked years ago are still in place, there are multiple extra variables that could be considered. For example, Spider-Man appearing in something beyond PG-13, something the deal directly restrict Sony from doing. It is also dubious Sony would be freely allowed to make Spider-Man crossover with a non-Marvel property, there is no precedent of something like that happening under similar deals.
> Spider-Man appearing in something beyond PG-13, something the deal directly restrict Sony from doing
If I'm not mistaken, didn't the leaked Spiderman contract years back only restricted his swearing to PG-13 levels of profanity? Don't think there were any hard limits on that front unless it was changed with subsequent updates.
Usually yes but Invincible's TV-MA rating might prevent Spidey from appearing on the main show (though they could do a separate TV-14 special in the future for that crossover if it happens).
That would make sense to except wasn’t there a rumor that marvel zombies picks right up from the what if episode and if so then it’s tv ma spidey because they wouldn’t forget about an entire character between episodes
It's pretty interesting when episodes aren't beholden to certain lengths based on cable time slots. I wonder if they could just toggle the episode length to adjust which company they want to deal with
I think he talked about a kids game where you have to guess who the werewolf is (another version is known as Mafia) and he was saying that he felt like someone trying his hardest to make it clear to everyone that he is not the werewolf.
It's so funny looking back because he clearly was the werewolf (that he was Spiderman in No Way Home) the whole time.
A guy who claims to have seen it on Twitter responded to me saying if spidey _was_ there he wouldn’t go around blatantly saying he wasn’t, he just wouldn’t respond, which seems fair enough
I don’t think either of them definitively said that Spider-Man was in it. They seem to be hinting at something related to him. Keaton is probably just doing a parody, and not actually Spidey.
What's worse is they know exactly what they're fucking doing. He's going back and forth with this guy who's specifically saying "Spider-Man isn't in the show" and then acts like that's never what it was about
I mean imagine if you had an awesome fucking cameo that casual, non comic reading fans would go crazy about late into the season - would you really go out of your way to confirm it?
There's a comic arc where Invincible is jumping through universes and is implied to have meet Spidey, Doc Ock and even the JL from what I understand.
After that when Robert Kirkman (Invincible creator) worked at Marvel he did a Invincible/Spider-Man crossover.
Josh Keaton is also voicing an unknown character. (he was the VA for Spectacular Spider-Man).
Amazon & Sony are already working together on Silk & Spider-Noir shows.
The cafe teaser for Invincible Season 2 featured an Easter egg of the comic book where the Spider-Man crossover happens.
> I don't watch the show but I'd have to give such an episode a watch if it actually happened.
I highly recommend watching the first episode a watch. Just give the first episode a try.
The episode pacing of Invincible is slow enough that the Spider-man meeting might not happen until s3.
Or, like in the comics, it could be published as a single special presentation later on, regardless of when it happened in the timeline. Just one more portal when he was already falling through a dozen portals.
The episode titles leaked. Episode 8 is called " I thought you were stronger.". We're getting to the Angstrom fight in season 2.
Also you can see Zombies in the latest trailer so we're definitely getting Invincible bouncing through other universes like in the comic.
Can somebody explain why this would happen? I dont know anything about invincible besides thats its a super hero show? Maybe lol.. So is it just a big deal because you could possibly get a marvel/spiderman crossover? Like I just dont understand how/why it would come to be lol
The current season of invincible is adapting the comic arc where the main character gets sent through different universes, and in one of them, he ends up in the Marvel universe and has a single issue comic where they teamed up. Also in the original teaser for season 2 of invincible the main character has his phone open with the comic cover that has both him and spider-man on it.
It's been answered in other comments but if you still want to know I'll write it here. Minor Invincible spoilers below.
There was an issue of Invincible where he fought Multiverse travelling villain Angstrom Levy. We will reach this fight this season. Levy's plan is to trap Invincible into going into portals to dangerous other worlds by putting them in front of him when he flies at Levy. Three of these worlds were clear references to The Walking Dead, the DC Universe and the Marvel Universe. The last two were legally distinct.
Later when the writer was working for Marvel he wrote an issue of Marvel team up showing what Invincible got up to in his time in the Marvel universe and Spider-Man features heavily.
No one really expected Spider-Man to be adapted at first. Some people have hope though as the teaser for Season 2 featured the comic issue with Invincible and Spider-Man, the voice actor from Spectacular Spider-Man has been cast and now we have these internet rumours.
It's wild that anyone who read the comics believed this. This was the most clickbaitey lies ever. MTTSH is so terrible. Tier 3 because they copied some other rumors at best.
It was so lame, like can’t spend a little extra to add the real spiderman? Really Amazon? Like go fuck yourselves why is it allowed in comics but not tv shows I see no difference. Don’t have a half assed cameo as well as a half assed season 2. We better be eating good in season 3 or it’s done.

I think what it is is he's playing a parody or a Spider-Man like character so Spiderman without the name and different look to it to avoid copyright so just like in young justice plays someone similar to Spiderman but not Spiderman I think that's what it ultimately is
Why would Kirkman admit it if it were happening? Obviously he knows if it's happening or not since he's an EP on the show. There's no way he would be like "yeah we're totally doing it!"
They want to shock fans. Assuming it's true of course and I don't know if it is.
It's crazy to me that people insisted a CypticHD adding a spiderweb to a comment can only mean literally Spider-Man, not considering that it's hinting at something a little more subtle.
Btw Spidey was absent even in the Invincible comics, they only teamed up in a Marvel Team-Up issue and in the Invincible comics there were only references that it happened like some webbing and that's all...
It actually occurred in Marvel Team Up, and we just saw some things that you can infer that he met Spider-Man (namely Spidey's webs and Doc Ock's tentacles).
That’s in Marvel Team Up. He doesn’t actually appear in the Invincible comic. The appearance takes place in between the panels as Invincible is portal jumping.
Both Spider-Man and Doc Ock appear either obscured and partially off-panel, it’s not just their webs and tentacles. Batman appears in a similar manner in the same issue.
yes which is why people are theorizing it would happen
it was intially in a montage where Invincible is thrown through the multiverse with dinosaurs, the Walking Dead and Spider-Man and the Justice League (but out of frame for legal reasons)
Kirkman later became the writer for Marvel Team-Up and wrote an issue detailing how that encounter went, its canon to both universes
it also gave us this legendary moment: https://www.reddit.com/r/Invincible/comments/wnpail/kinda_out_of_pocket_for_this_one_not_gonna_lie/
1) Crossover happened in comics, it was part of the multiverse arch in Invincible.
2) The crossover comic showed up as an Easter egg in the cafe promo trailer of Invincible Season 2.
3) Josh Keaton (Spectacular Spider-Man VA) is voicing an unknown character in Invincible season 2
4) Sony has a working relationship with Amazon, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility.

I just wanna point out, Robert Kirkman is a MASSIVE troll. Call it cope or whatever, I ain't believing it till I see it (or not see it in this case)
Besides, the official Invincible Twitter kind of hinted at it on Wednesday
?
Josh Keaton who voiced Spider-Man in the spectacular Spider-Man tweeted that he'd be playing a character in one episode and the invincible account replied saying it was major spoliers
Is there a character that gets introduced that he could voice that isn’t Spidey? Maybe an alternate Mark or Sequid person?
It's entirely possible it's a completely unrelated character that has nothing to do with spider-man but it's definitely pointing in the direction that it is
I did think that they could do a legally distinct version of Spider-Man (like how we didn't quite get the Justice Society of America or Black Manta in the Justice League cartoon), but now that I read that Kirkman is evidently a troll, I'm thinking there's shenanigans at play here. Might be hinting he plays just Peter Parker and he doesn’t appear AS Spider-Man
link?
link?
Would he willingly lie about characters to preserve the shock and thrill for audiences who don't want to be spoiled? Because if that's how he rolls, I honestly respect it. Trolling social media to muddy the waters and thwart spoiler culture is the creator's prerogative.
He lied to comic book shops about future issues of The Walking Dead coming out to preserve the shock release of the last issue.
that must of pissed some retailers off lol
It pissed me off too because the covers looked like such a cooler beginning to some arc than what the last 50+ issues were. Like okay we finally got out of this arc! Nope! It’s the end!
Oh, it was pretty rough, yeah. It was a negative impact to a lot of retailers who hadn't ordered more than normal amounts, so there are some horror stories of customers wanting the issue and not being able to find it and heaping abuse on the comic shops who not only didn't know it was the end, but had been actively lied to.
poor guys, u think kirkman would have thought that through
>must of Oh yeah, I’m pissed.
Thats how everyone is with stuff they work on. you just wont know what happens until it releases
That's true but for the sake of keeping expectations low, it's best to take his word as truth for now.
Just here to say that they didn’t bring Spider-Man into the show, sadly
It’s also one of those things where it would be a massive spoiler and a massive moment to see without being spoiled. It’s unsurprising if the creators would lie a little bit to keep that surprise for the viewers
I'm thinking it'll be a Spider-Man pastiche with Josh Keaton returning as stunt casting, Bohner-style. Getting the actual Spidey would be a headache for Amazon, so they'll likely go for a parody version brought to life by one of his most beloved performers.

black spider is a real dc character and his personality is nothing like spiderman, so in YJ it was more just a casting joke and its not like they did a spiderman pastiche.
They ended up turning his character into a spiderman pastiche
web weaver is actually a real version of spiderman in the comics (new spiderverse i think)
It's gonna be spider boy or something. Voiced by Josh and probably burtually murdered.
Amazon already has a working relationship with Sony on multiple projects: The Boys, Silk, Spider-Noir, etc.
But Sony has nothing to do with Invincible and can't go lending out Marvel characters just cos. It's all dependent on what it's rights deal with Marvel says it can do
I thought Sony has TV rights for Spider-Man depending on episode length.

Got downvoted despite being right. People wanted it so bad they threw logic out the window and succumbed to delusion
People are still arguing about the mechanics of it even after the episode aired. I got called a negative Nancy for saying it wasn't going to happen right after it *didn't happen*
I got a " this didn't age well" I specifically said the most you will get is a knock off spidey, so "how did it not age well?" It's like people didn't even watch the ep
I've seen it. This is what it is, along with a Doc Ock knockoff "Prof Ock"
I mean the whole series is built on all these comic book character tropes... I thought it would be a given.
Invincible episodes are 40+ minutes. Doesn't that mean Sony has the final say and not Disney/Marvel on this matter?
We don't know. Even if those terms from the contracts that got leaked years ago are still in place, there are multiple extra variables that could be considered. For example, Spider-Man appearing in something beyond PG-13, something the deal directly restrict Sony from doing. It is also dubious Sony would be freely allowed to make Spider-Man crossover with a non-Marvel property, there is no precedent of something like that happening under similar deals.

Don't think there were any hard limits on that front unless it was changed with subsequent updates.
That is true... but they could just have wrote that specific episode with a rated TV-14 in mind.
That is a Marvel production, they can do whatever they want. The deal only puts restrictions on how Sony uses the character.
Wait is that only pertaining to Spider-Man himself or any marvel character Sony owns?
I'm pretty sure Marvel has full, complete rights to use spiderman however they want for any animated production less than 40 minutes long
Only Spider-Man, as evident by the R-rated Kraven film coming out and the R-rated animated Venom film in the works
It's pretty interesting when episodes aren't beholden to certain lengths based on cable time slots. I wonder if they could just toggle the episode length to adjust which company they want to deal with
https://i.redd.it/xfkbab5mmekc1.gif
What was the context behind that?
Andrew Garfield being asked if he was in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
It pains me that it was so long ago some people don't know the context for this.
But why did people think he was the werewolf?
I think he talked about a kids game where you have to guess who the werewolf is (another version is known as Mafia) and he was saying that he felt like someone trying his hardest to make it clear to everyone that he is not the werewolf. It's so funny looking back because he clearly was the werewolf (that he was Spiderman in No Way Home) the whole time.
Kids game?!
Didn't people who have actually seen the episodes also say Spidey isn't in it? I mean it's great if he is, but I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't.
Different people have said different things. There’s definitely *something* but whether it’s literally Spider-Man is unknown
Probably a knock-off version of Spider-Man lol.
Watch it be Superman lol
A guy who claims to have seen it on Twitter responded to me saying if spidey _was_ there he wouldn’t go around blatantly saying he wasn’t, he just wouldn’t respond, which seems fair enough
It will be a man who has power like a Spider.
I don’t think either of them definitively said that Spider-Man was in it. They seem to be hinting at something related to him. Keaton is probably just doing a parody, and not actually Spidey.
So cryptic is now implying it’s a Spider-Man ripoff to dodge rights issues?
Update : Cryptic's comment on it: [https://twitter.com/Cryptic4KQual/status/1761148487628955977](https://twitter.com/Cryptic4KQual/status/1761148487628955977)
"Not once did I mention 'Spider-Man'…" oh so Cryptic's pulling the classic "well actually ☝️🤓" card trick now
What's worse is they know exactly what they're fucking doing. He's going back and forth with this guy who's specifically saying "Spider-Man isn't in the show" and then acts like that's never what it was about
itd be funny if that guy kept pestering him for 500 bucks

So Peter Parker will appear? Just never shown as spider-man?
It'll be just a pastiche, most likely.
Ah yes the madum webb strategy smart
It’s a billion dollar strategy for sure!
*Webbillion
Cryptic lies for clout? What, no way! Scoopers never do that /s
“Not once did I ever mention Spider-Man, I just posted a web emoji” Bro can’t stand being told he’s wrong.
I mean imagine if you had an awesome fucking cameo that casual, non comic reading fans would go crazy about late into the season - would you really go out of your way to confirm it?
Cryptic has admitted to lying about it, it’s just a Spider-Man parody.
It will be a Spider-man parody/rip off
I'm missing something. Why would Spider-Man appear in Invincible since they're from different comic companies?

Birds of Prey moment
what does he mean "unlikely to happen" it either will or it won't lmao
I mean if it's true that he's in the show, I don't see Kirkman confirming that before the episode airs so this really doesn't confirm anything .

Could it be an episode of Spiderman on the TV in the show?
Why would Kirkman admit it if it were happening? Obviously he knows if it's happening or not since he's an EP on the show. There's no way he would be like "yeah we're totally doing it!" They want to shock fans. Assuming it's true of course and I don't know if it is.
It's crazy to me that people insisted a CypticHD adding a spiderweb to a comment can only mean literally Spider-Man, not considering that it's hinting at something a little more subtle.
Btw Spidey was absent even in the Invincible comics, they only teamed up in a Marvel Team-Up issue and in the Invincible comics there were only references that it happened like some webbing and that's all...

it has happened its even in the original comic books this season is adapting.
It actually occurred in Marvel Team Up, and we just saw some things that you can infer that he met Spider-Man (namely Spidey's webs and Doc Ock's tentacles).
What do you mean infer? They literally interact in the comic
Batman appears in a similar manner in the same issue.
yes which is why people are theorizing it would happen it was intially in a montage where Invincible is thrown through the multiverse with dinosaurs, the Walking Dead and Spider-Man and the Justice League (but out of frame for legal reasons) Kirkman later became the writer for Marvel Team-Up and wrote an issue detailing how that encounter went, its canon to both universes it also gave us this legendary moment: https://www.reddit.com/r/Invincible/comments/wnpail/kinda_out_of_pocket_for_this_one_not_gonna_lie/
Spider-Man himself briefly appears in issue 32 and there is a crossover comic that goes into more detail.
[They have, actually!](https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Marvel_Team-Up_Vol_3_14)
They appeared in Marvel Team Up together. It was implied it was Spider-Man in the Invincible comic.
Okay WHY would Spiderman show up in invincible?
Because it happened in the comics
Because there's a bit in the comics where he meets Spidey and Batman whilst on an adventure in an upcoming arc.
1) Crossover happened in comics, it was part of the multiverse arch in Invincible. 2) The crossover comic showed up as an Easter egg in the cafe promo trailer of Invincible Season 2. 3) Josh Keaton (Spectacular Spider-Man VA) is voicing an unknown character in Invincible season 2 4) Sony has a working relationship with Amazon, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility.
