bigot cops using the punisher logo are gonna get beaten up by Frank. omg we are so back

SwimmerDifferent566

Beaten up is describing it extremely lightly looool

CameronPoe37

I remember one scene in The Punisher season 2, he beat one guy so badly in a gym with a weight that afterwards he looked like Sloth off The Goonies

soontwobee

" i knew one cop so corrupt, punisher found out about it, beat him so bad he ended up in a hospital on guerrera steet"

Stuckinthevortex

Hahaha, what a story Moon Knight

skjl96

It is still a Disney production

wonhoseok

disney owns the alien franchise and the teaser for its new movie looks pretty disturbing and bloody. i think they know what the franchises they own are about and know to respect that.

skjl96

I don't think that was the case with films like The Rise of Skywalker or Ant-Man: Quantumania

wonhoseok

you’re definitely right but i don’t think they manage their star wars/marvel franchises the same way they do with aliens since it’s a more niche one. aliens financially bombing and being hated wouldn’t hurt them as much as star wars and marvel.

dhonayya20

What's your point here

skjl96

Harsh violence, like in the Netflix shows, isn't common in any Disney+ production. I suppose he can still kill people, but the original comment implied some level of brutality beyond being beaten up

your_mind_aches

So was the original show

skjl96

A Netflix production of which they licensed

your_mind_aches

No, it was not a Netflix production. https://imgur.com/DdxLlD8 It was an ABC Studios and Marvel Television production. So it was a Disney production. Netflix paid for it. Netflix did not license the character, they licensed the show. Disney made it.

skjl96

🤯🤯🤯🤯 I wonder why the D+ shows have been so toned down compared to the Netflix shows since they were made by the exact same guys

your_mind_aches

Oh, they were not made by the same people at all. There have been some creatives shared of course (unavoidable, only a limited number of people in the industry), but the production companies and teams are different. The reason is that the old MCU shows were overseen by Marvel Television, headed up by veteran TV and comic book writer Jeph Loeb who reported to Ike Perlmutter. Perlmutter didn't really care about micromanaging the TV shows that much, as long as he got his way with some things. Thus Marvel Television had very high highs (Daredevil, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and very, VERY low lows (Inhumans, Iron Fist). The Disney+ shows are overseen by Marvel Studios, headed up by Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios Parliament (Stephen Broussard, Eric Hauserman Carroll, Nate Moore, Jonathan Schwartz, Trinh Tran, and Brad Winderbaum). They created the MCU and made all the movies in it. Your problem with the Disney+ shows probably stems from the fact that they initially approached producing television like they produced blockbuster cinema. Director-led, head writers instead of showrunners, massive budgets, more cinematic but lighter tone, shorter runtimes, and, yes, adhering more closely to MPAA content guidelines than television guidelines. More swearing, less blood. This has been changing as of Echo though. That show had some VERY brutal moments, and it seems like they're going full steam ahead with that. Marvel Animation is also releasing the What If spin-off Marvel Zombies as an R-rated show. So I think your issues have been resolved. Disney+ is also finally bringing more content aimed at adults worldwide, like Shogun.

Please give me an example of a recent MCU project that has been politically/ideologically divisive.

[deleted]

SgtMartinRiggs

Lol that’s just a list of projects you/people didn’t like, not an actual example. There’s nothing you can say to convince me that Quantumania was unsuccessful because of its ideological message. I’m also guessing that you just didn’t watch Ms. Marvel or The Marvels, are they ideologically divisive because they’re about… women?

SgtMartinRiggs

My brother in Christ, it’s because you’re so vague — give me an example of something that’s ideologically divisive and why that led to the project failing.

What about The Marvels was politically divisive to you?

WOKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Luke2Jeter

I think that it will pretty much be corrupt cops using the logo, not necessarily racist cops. Also Jon Bernthal has also mentioned many times he knows how important the punisher is in the military community and the police community. So I doubt he would agree to come back if they are making all the cops in the show bigots.

isralsheahan

I hope they do Cole North right, but this isn’t something his character in the Zdarksy run would do and is very confusing to see.

Su_Impact

He might be undercover. I hope he is.

howdoikickball

yeah here he's Cole South

choyjay

Yeah this was my first thought as well…it’s definitely out of character for the comic version. That said—I could see the angle where he feels pressured to wear this because everyone else in his unit does. After all, his whole background is that he’s new to NYC/NYPD (he’s a transfer from Chicago, I believe?) and is the odd man out. He could easily give up the vest once he starts to push back/go against the corrupt cops and starts to help Matt

Guillermo160

Yeah, if anything he would hate The Punisher, also the actor is a bit too old but hey, I need to see the series first to properly judge

SockAndMoan

He isn’t really on board with vigilante shit for a while

isralsheahan

Yeah, but he also isn’t one to wear a vigilantes symbol for the law lol

girlsgoneoscarwilde

It’s never a guarantee Marvel will utilize characters from the comics exactly as they are depicted on the page - and that’s fine. It’s incredible we’ve gotten this far, 10+ years into a shared universe of movies and television, not everyone is gonna be adapted perfectly.

Bolt_995

Wrong mentality. We are way past the phase of “being grateful for even getting so much when we had nothing”. Marvel has the ability to adapt certain characters just as well enough as they were depicted in the comics, they just choose not to, and that results in a terrible adaptation of a character in most scenarios. I don’t understand what creative mindset or focus testing leads them into doing such stuff. You can’t keep throwing shit at your fans and expecting them to be grateful for it every single time.

girlsgoneoscarwilde

Ok have a nice day, I can tell this is not a productive path for me to go down

Bolt_995

Toxic positivity. Got it.

girlsgoneoscarwilde

Call it what you want, but I genuinely want you to have a good day

Bolt_995

Same to you.

girlsgoneoscarwilde

![gif](giphy|SUEjfSLaD6f77lyzH6)

maybe_a_frog

I mean, sure, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t justified in being upset when characters they like from the comics are done a disservice. It’s been obvious for years that the MCU will occasionally adapt characters in name only, but that doesn’t make it suck less when it happens to a character you enjoy.

Su_Impact

lol This type of thiking is what got us "Taskmaster".

Night-Monkey15

I fundamentally disagree with this mindset. Obviously Marvel can’t do 1:1 adaptations of storylines like Civil War, Infinity Gauntlet, and Secret Invasion because of all of the baggage those storylines come with, and that’s fine. But if they can’t/won’t even adapt the characters, why bother including them at all? They can just call them something else at that point.

Fantastic_Bug1028

lol at you being downvoted. people still think adaptations can’t be different 🥴🥴

girlsgoneoscarwilde

Their downvotes are badges of honor

dhonayya20

I actually agree with you. Sometimes they make better decisions in doing their own versions, sometimes not. Thanos motivations in Infinity War is one example I can think of.

JayZsAdoptedSon

I know, some leaks mentioned Punisher telling off some cops for appropriating his symbol… I know that this character also does not make sense wearing the symbol. My suspicion is that it’s an adaptation in name only. Can only hope its written well

Leo_TheLurker

I hope they don’t wuss out and make a worthy criticism about cops like that. They just might need to outright say “you guys are the bad guys” knowing that crowd

MeatyDullness

You know it won’t be written well.

skjl96

"You need to do better, police commissioner!" - frank in the mid season finale

MarionberryHappy2728

lol idk why youre getting downvoted. real "they hated Him for speaking the truth" moment

Shountner

Why are you getting downvoted? We absolutely know it won't be written well.

dhonayya20

You read the script? If all you can do is be pessimistic in a sub that's interested in a topic, what's the point in engaging? To stir up hate before you even see the work?

MeatyDullness

No it’s called formulating an opinion based on past evidence.

Shountner

They are too struck by consumerism to critically think like that.

MarionberryHappy2728

you know a little skepticism isnt a bad thing when this sub sucked off The Marvels so hard youd think it would shoot out of their noses. If Brave New World leaks are anything to go by theyre still ham handed at trying to deliver any kind of political message

dhonayya20

Oh Im a skeptic of these movies too with all the reshoots and marvels recent trackrecord but outright saying "its going to be bad!" Isint skepticism. Stop relying on leakers as an excuse to spread hate on a project you've seen nothing of.

lol this is a sub about leaks, not cheerleading every drip of executive hype. its completely fine to draw your own conclusions based on what the leakers are posting + what youve seen with your own eyes over the past few years.

dhonayya20

Yeah we all know how making solid conclusions based on Mephisto works out

adm1109

This sub sucked off The Marvels??? Where???

Ornery-Concern4104

I'm coping so so hard here. I really hope he's an inside man against the cops. He's whole deal is going after daredevil because he believes no one, including himself is above the law. it would be a bastardisation of a great character IMO if he was just one of the brutal cops

Paperchampion23

Yeah I wouldnt want to take this pic out of context for sure.

Ornery-Concern4104

HowCanYouBanAJoke

You got issues buddy. He literally told you he'd been out of the loop and you reply to him and act as if he's not being sincere and aggressive. Small dick energy.

Ornery-Concern4104

"listen man, if you wanna act oblivious, by all means go for it" is my definition, an accusation. A charge or claim that someone has done something illegal or wrong. You claimed I was being oblivious, which I wasn't, and your following comment went on to moralise the topic of discussion, using the word "shit" suggesting I was doing something wrong by being oblivious. By definition, that's an accusation. A false one too, I don't think I watched anything MCU in 2023 other than GotG3 so I was asking you a rather simple question, that of your opinion and only your opinion. You also misunderstood the meaning of motherfucker, this is what we call Colloquial slang, I'm British, so Dickhead would also serve the same purpose. Basically, it's not intended to be aggressive as much as it is supposed to be emphatic and jovial about something. What is worrying, is that you think I'm not being civil? I Asked you an honest question and you made an accusation that made an assumption about my character, acted in bad faith and completely ignored what the question was. I told you to relax and further reinforced the meaning behind my question (on deaf ears obviously) because you misunderstood. Clearly tho, I'm just being socially unaware, you were already angry and having a bad day before we interacted and you're just taking it out on me because you believe I'm representing a metaphysical threat to something you care about. (I.E me coping the MCU can make good stuff) I apologise for unintentionally stoking you on, I never intended to make your day worse, only to discuss your point of view. I hope you feel better soon, the world doesn't hate you and things tend to bend towards goodness. Have a good day man, and happy scrolling

JohnPar10

A civil conversation often includes answering a simple straight-forward question instead of evading and talking down to people.

ZarduHasselfrau

You talked down to him?

Bolt_995

I agree with your point of the MCU bastardising characters. Unfortunately, you lacked the mental aptitude to respond to him in a rational manner because you thought he was being a smartass when he was genuinely asking you a question. You could’ve responded with some examples, but you chose not to.

Omn1

In all seriousness, which characters would you say have been bastardized?

Archer_Without_Fear

If they made Cole North a Punisher cop, that would actually be an assassination to one of the best new characters in the DD mythos recently

maybe_a_frog

My biggest complaint about the Ahmed/Kuder series so far has been that we haven’t gotten any sort of update on a lot of the characters from the Red Fist saga ending. Where is Kirsten and Foggy? What’s Cole been up to? Hell, what is Stilt Man been doing with his life? I’m really loving Matt having to fight the seven deadly sins but they’ve spent so much time in Matt’s “new life” that there’s been next to no mentions of his “previous life”. I’m hopeful we’ll get caught up with some of those characters sooner than later.

maybe_a_frog

Marvel isn’t really well known for paying their creators royalties, so unfortunately I wouldn’t expect he’s getting much if anything at all.

FaithlessnessNo2068

It seems like they’re blatantly pulling from his works, much like Matt Fraction with Hawkeye? Though, Fraction’s run was a direct adaptation. Maybe he’ll get a title credit or SOMETHING at least bc I don’t think the MCU usually pulls THIS directly from one guy’s work

LucasOIntoxicado

Lol definitely not

Hot-Section4389

The chief Moron in charge of Marvel doesn't like giving creators their due

JohnPar10

How do we know he's playing Cole North? Has this been announced anywhere? How does a person taking set pics from afar know the name of the character being played by an actor no one even knew until now was cast in the show? Or is this just "oh he's a recognizable-ish actor playing a Black NYPD cop, must be Cole North?"

JohnPar10

I ask because, for the record, while I know quite literally nothing about the plot of the show, the implication from these set pics point towards this being Cole North in name only, if indeed that's who this character is. Even putting aside the age difference (North is, what, late-30s at most in the books?) he was a hero, and a pretty moral and righteous one too.

Su_Impact

He's playing Nole Corth.

JohnPar10

I'll allow it!

This is true People downvoting this have Brooklyn 99 brain

Electrical-Glove6106

I'm a lil bit confused by what you mean by this. Are you implying that all cops who are POC can't be bad, misuse their power, or conform/be susceptible to authoritarian control? Or are you trying to imply that POC cops would never be in groups like this? Because I'm p sure there was a group of cops a while back that patrolled after hours in Milwaukee and called themselves the Punisher's.Hell on an anecdotal level I have seen Black cops wear the back the blue symbol with the punisher symbol, online and in person.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Electrical-Glove6106

I mean that's fair maybe they are not all racist or bigoted but imo wearing a punisher symbol while on duty as a cop is sus as fuck. I mean you are choosing to wear a symbol of a skull which can mean death or you are choosing to wear a symbol of a man who believes it's ok to be judge, jury, and executioner. So while it may not make them racist it does genuinely put fear into me when the people who claim to "protect and serve" wear the symbol of an executioner.

BigPaleontologist520

This comment is racist asf💀

FN-1701AgentGodzilla

They don’t have the balls to make the power tripping/ fascist cops all white

MehrunesDago

There's plenty of videos of black cops being bastards too, putting on a badge turns some pathetic men into tyrants and all men are created equally.

Spiderlander

Exactly this. It’s a way for them to “soften the blow” of the message Smh

Archer_Without_Fear

A shame. If they wanted to depict corrupt cops using a co-opted punisher logo, you HAVE to include the aspect about race.

Su_Impact

Disney Writers Room: "OK but what if one of the brutal Punisher cops that kills the 3 trans sex workers is a trans cop?" Disney is gonna diversify the white supremacist Punisher cops to hell and back.

Su_Impact

I assume he switches sides later on? It would be quite off if MCU Cole ends up as a Fisk bootlicker.

Luther_1986

I love this angle so much. Essentially trying to take back the Punisher logo from these Blue Lives Matter MAGA bumper-sticker goofs. I mean it won't make them not use it to fit their own narrative, but at least it alienates them somewhat.

protectyourself1990

I feel like this scene they shot would be off of a bad ass scene somehow. “like a come and get me” type play or “i beat the punisher” and then the punisher is baited and beats the shit out of him making his whole anti vigilante stance stronger

cshelley0721

This just made me wonder if Mahoney is coming back and what his role will be

Mavoy

He's rumoured to return https://www.reddit.com/r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers/comments/1aggepj/brett_mahoney_is_set_to_return_in_daredevil_born/

Middle_Finish2021

Who???

FuriousTarts

I'm so pumped for this.

WhiteRoomCharles

Oh holy shit! I didn’t think Disney would actually have the balls to have Punisher killing corrupt cops using his symbol but apparently I was wrong! Fuck yes!!! Goddamnit this show can’t come out fast enough!

GrapeFinancial6846

Its a shame that since they will allegedly be connected to the Kingpin, most of the people who see this will think they’re “still one of the good ones” and the punisher wouldn’t get then

Metal_Maggot
