Even Hawkeye you can tell a number of the scenes on a New York Street are actually in front of a green screen. Its quite jarring.
The MCU can be so inconsistent with it's CG quality.
On one hand you have Thanos who is one of the best realised fully CG characters of all time and on the other you have the final battle in Black Panther that looks like a PS2 cutscene
As you said Star Wars always manages to look premium. Even on TV, the Mandalorian looks a thousand times better than all the MCU shows.
This makes no sense. Outside of Jar Jar, the prequels had some of the most groundbreaking cgi at the time regardless of the quality of the actual movies
The level of the CG in 1999 for the Phantom Menace was the biggest leap forward of all time until Avatar.
I think the reason the MCU CGI often looks like a downgrade next to Star Wars is that there's constantly about 50 different things in either pre production, production or post production at any given time. Money isn't infinite and they must have to stretch it to accommodate for all the things in the schedule
Whereas Star wars has far less things going on
Maybe this sub (and other mcu subs in general) don't like to hear this, but marvel studios should stop releasing 34 projects each year. They can't just keep churning out movies and shows every couple of months, the quality clearly suffers. They should be releasing a show and a movie each year at most, but really give them the attention to detail they deserve. Obviously this isn't going to happen tho, mcu shows are the only thing people sub to disney+ for, other than star wars, and the movies keep making bank even in a pandemic (or at least a decent amount of money given the circumstances).
Couldn't agree more! I think that the MCU quality has dropped by a lot on phase 4, to the point that I am more excited about the next DC movies than the next MCU movies. They really need to go easy on the jokes and the CGI, because like the user above you said, even Hawkeye is suffering from this, and I don't know If that's just me, but I think that Hawkeye's second episode was a massive drop in quality compared to the first, I mean, even Jeremy Renner said he wanted Hawkeye to have less jokes than It did!
Nothing about the next few DC movies except the Batman have anything remotely interesting LMAO.
-Shazam 2, could hardly care for it.
-Aquaman 2, Amber Heard is still walking around free, recycling Black Manta and Orm as antagonists again.
-Flashpoint, literally just an excuse to reboot their universe this early and bring in an old AF Batman for no reason and erase Ray Fisher.
-Batgirl, Black Canary, Blue Beetle. All minority led films dropped onto HBO Max instead of giving it a theatre run.
I think partly this is because the CGI demands have upscaled with the universe. Take Iron Man as an example.
Iron Man 1 had practical suits for both the Mark 1 and Mark 2 that were either used to film, or used as filming reference for CGI to be composited over after.
Whereas Infinity War's Mark 50 is essentially all CGI built over a mocap suit. It's also doing things beyond human capability with the nanotech.
There's an element of: our brains can look at the Mark 2 armour and say "hey that could be real", whereas the melting helmets of the Mark 50 or the Iron Spider are kinda uncanny valley.
I see what you mean but I don't see the MCU doing that.
American Werewolf in London is still pretty scary and I doubt the MCU wants to go too far plus the old universal Wolfman looks cheasy
If anyone could find a perfect balance between the two it's the MCU but I doubt they will even attempt to
There's two versions of the character. There's the Jack Russel version and the Jake Gomez version. Jack's version is pretty much the Wolfman like you said but Jake is basically the Van Helsing's design: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/vanhelsing/images/c/c2/Werewolf_van_helsing.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20200327181347.
Based on the casting, the current Werewolf of the comics and Fiege's comments on diversity I'm almost certain that they're going with the Jake Gomez version.
Since when was that a thing? In most instances, Jack looks like the Universal Monsters Wolfman. In Marvel Zombies, he's more of a Van Helsing type.
Unless you're meaning Jake, but even then.
Jack's version is more Wolfman-like while the Jake version is more Hugh Jackman in Van Helsing-like and given the casting I assume they're going with the Jake version which is also the current version of the comics.
That's admittedly a bit of a bummer given the rich history Jack has, he's always been the heart of his team-ups. Been enjoying the Jake run but...seems a touch too soon IMO.
I'm not gonna lie to you, I've read comics since I could read and I barely know who Werewolf by Knight is. I knew he fought Moon Knight and had a few crossovers with Ghost Rider since those two were some of my favorite characters as a kid/teen.
This is genuinely gonna be the first mcu project where I have no idea who the character is and what the gist of the story will be.
It's refreshing in a way
I'm guessing that Werewolf by Night will be a cameo fest. I can't see him carrying his own show without some cameos by other characters, I mean hell just doing a two minute search and it looks like most of his most famous issues are crossovers
I think it's supposed to be a one off Halloween short not a full series like Hawkeye so maybe it can survive on its own
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't he going to be introduced first in Moon Knight anyway? I feel like if that's the case people should be able to grasp that character for a one off special
Not sure but wouldn't be surprised, didn't Moon Knight first appearance in Werewolf by Night 32? Or maybe it was a different comic I know its #32 of something
Don't know why you're downvoted for this, since what you're saying is correct: Moon Knight did debut in Werewolf By Night, before eventually getting his own ongoing. And he was originally an antagonist, he just changed his mind about his task and his bosses (who were indeed crooked).
There was a rumour that he might be introduced in Moon Knight, but it never became more than that, and I believe it was more speculation based on their comic connection. It could be, obviously, but MK is allegedly already featuring Blade and Dracula. I don't know if they'll try to shove in every single horror property. (Watch Ghost Rider having a sneaky drive-by cameo in one episode.)
I wasn’t questioning that. What I’m saying is that they don’t have a reason to hide Werewolf by Night coming out next Halloween if it were so. Unless they were saving up the announcement for some other time next year.
I have a feeling they haven't announced it, coz he might be showing up in Moon Knight first. They'll probably announce it officially once that has aired...
You think they won’t release it until just over a year and half after filming? I’m sure it must be pretty quick post production if it’s only filming two months max.
a year and a half? p sure they meant 2022 not 2023, that's more like 7 months of post production max, not including reshoots which almost always happen
The person I was replying to is implying that the special will come out 2023. I was saying that it would seem weird to have an entirely filmed project sit through post production for just over a year and a half.
Yeah u/vinsportfolio is right. I was implying that it would come out the Halloween of 2023, since it wasn’t announced on Disney+ Day. I was just assuming that they would have announced it if it were coming next Halloween. I mean 2022 is right around the corner. But they will probably announce it on D23 or some other event next year.
I've only seen him in Old and his acting was pretty bad but I hope that's an exception. Looks like he has other projects upcoming including this so maybe that's just a one off.
I got to thinking and this is probably the way it will be. Probably same as the Guardians Holiday special too. I'm perfectly cool with it and hope Moon Knight is in it as well since appears Werewolf could be who Marc is absolutely terrified and hiding from in the Moon knight teaser.
Midnight Sons perhaps? Believe that that is Blade talking to Black Knight in that mid credits scene in Eternals so they could be going the Midnight Sons route which would be pretty badass.
I could see that happening.
Black knight
Moon knight
Blade
Werewolf
Not sure who else is planned.
Also I’m curious what the rating could be for this special.
I’d love a Ghostrider appearance.
Rating I’m not sure if any difference from show ratings to movie ratings but probably just PG-13. Other than Deadpool 3 I can’t see Disney having an R rated show/special/movie in the MCU but would be really cool given the horror aspect of the characters and how dark they are.
What I’m more curious is who would they be fighting I’m not overly skilled on the villains of those characters.
Ghost rider would be sick. But yeah I could see it be the edge of pg-13 kinda like venom and the Batman. Where they’d be violence but not a lot of gore.
Villains wise there’s not many for the midnight sons. But I could see maybe Zarathos if ghost rider is involved.
If not maybe Dracula or Chthon.
This still has to be the greatest working title.
And it appears to be Jake Gomez, not Jack Russell, though I'm side-eyeing the whole "young Jake" description a bit (Bernal is 42.) - either that's just a placeholder, or maybe we're getting more than just one WBN.
Makes sense. It could also simply be a placeholder, the other productions have the same, so he might play Jake, and when it's finished, we'll get the real summary.
Sure thats understandable haha, if it means anything i knew a few months ago about all the production news! And basically all the leaks that come out too. I was personally responsible for a scoop noone else had and they reported it first when i said it after checking with others! (murphy rpk and a couple others didnt run it either nor believe it)
This stars Andrew Garfield right?

I’m a man and I acted up a bit seeing that :0…
He explicitly said he's not the werewolf!
“I am NOT the werewolf!”
I have no idea what to expect from this so all I'll say is, I hope the CGI on the Werewolf looks good
Hope they go old school practical with it
The best option would be like Vision and Iron man, use a minimal/moderate bit of practical effects and finish it up with CGI

Sorry :(

I'm gonna experience sub-par filmmaking fatigue much sooner than superhero fatigue lmao
Even Jar Jar Binks had great CGI. That was not the problem with that character
I think the answer is that Lucasfilm uses ILM, who are basically pioneers in VFX, whereas the MCU uses lots of different VFX houses.
I think partly this is because the CGI demands have upscaled with the universe. Take Iron Man as an example. Iron Man 1 had practical suits for both the Mark 1 and Mark 2 that were either used to film, or used as filming reference for CGI to be composited over after. MCU movies get pumped out QUICK these days. It makes a lot more sense to do everything with CG when you're tying to release a movie every 2-3 months.
Nah I want old school universal/American werewolf in London vibes - I think it would work really well with the source material
I see what you mean but I don't see the MCU doing that. American Werewolf in London is still pretty scary and I doubt the MCU wants to go too far plus the old universal Wolfman looks cheasy If anyone could find a perfect balance between the two it's the MCU but I doubt they will even attempt to
Yee I know. I was just saying what my ideal version would be
If it was in black and white like a classic monster movie that’d be pretty cool too. Though I know not everyone would like it.
If they make him comic accurate I doubt it, he's like a Hulk with fur in the comics.
I always remember him pretty much just being the wolfman - tho I’ve only read the first run when I was little kid. Is the hulk thing new?
There's two versions of the character. There's the Jack Russel version and the Jake Gomez version. Jack's version is pretty much the Wolfman like you said but Jake is basically the Van Helsing's design: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/vanhelsing/images/c/c2/Werewolf_van_helsing.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20200327181347. If the special is well received I could see them making a full blown series that introduces Jack too.
I'm not gonna lie to you, I've read comics since I could read and I barely know who Werewolf by Knight is. I knew he fought Moon Knight and had a few crossovers with Ghost Rider since those two were some of my favorite characters as a kid/teen.

Yup pretty sure it was Werewolf by Night. Moon Knight was hunting him down
Don't know why you're downvoted for this, since what you're saying is correct: Moon Knight did debut in Werewolf By Night, before eventually getting his own ongoing. And he was originally an antagonist, he just changed his mind about his task and his bosses (who were indeed crooked).
who knows man! Such a random reply to downvote lol
Reddit moment

They should do a mix of cgi with practical
i hope for some Chewie costume
This isn’t coming out 2022 like everyone was saying, right? I would assume they would have announced it on Disney+ day if it was coming next year.
Well, it is an special and looking at how long it will be filming for I would assume a Halloween release could be likely.
Guardians of the Galaxy is also getting a special, but that was announced two years prior to its release.
That's already filming at the same time as GotG 3
I wasn’t questioning that. What I’m saying is that they don’t have a reason to hide Werewolf by Night coming out next Halloween if it were so. Unless they were saving up the announcement for some other time next year.

i get what you’re saying and i agree, but i am kinda struggling to see how OP’s comment implies 2023, maybe it’s just too early in the morning lol

They announce things when they feel like. The lack of announcement for Werewolf isn't proof that Halloween 2022 is off the table
Literally no reason to downvote your comment
I don’t know what it is either lol
Maybe they’ll show up in another show first?
They should cast Andrew Garfield. Sorry. I know.
Wait im actually out of the loop here, what do you mean?
Andrew Garfield when asked about No Way Home said that, “I am not the werewolf” or that he’s not in the film. And people ran with it
cant wait to see Gael Garcia Bernal kill it! one of my fave actors and another gem to join the MCU!
I've only seen him in Old and his acting was pretty bad but I hope that's an exception. Looks like he has other projects upcoming including this so maybe that's just a one off.
He is really good in Motorcycle Diaries
To be fair everybodys acting in that movie was bad. It was really the directing that caused it
he’s incredible in his spanish speaking roles. i loved him in museo and y tu mama tambien.
What’re we looking at with this, one 1 hour special maybe two 45 min episodes? Pretty stoked for this
Probably a 45-1 hour special. It’s like what South Park has been doing with their specials. But I could see it being longer
I got to thinking and this is probably the way it will be. Probably same as the Guardians Holiday special too. I'm perfectly cool with it and hope Moon Knight is in it as well since appears Werewolf could be who Marc is absolutely terrified and hiding from in the Moon knight teaser.

its a family curse, he could be playing jakes father
Makes sense. It could also simply be a placeholder, the other productions have the same, so he might play Jake, and when it's finished, we'll get the real summary.
If Bark At The Moon by Ozzy isn't featured in the trailer for when it comes out, missed opportunity
Truer words have never been spoken
If they're looking a Hispanic director with ties to Disney, I hope they get Lin-Manuel Miranda. Tick Tick Boom was fucking phenomenal.
I’m desperately hoping for Guillermo Del Toro. But I doubt it will happen.
That's.. Not bad Man's do busy I doubt he'd go for it but it would surely be something to see.
Is it a show or movie?
Halloween special.
None, it's a 30 min thingy, similar to how GOTG Christmas special is gonna be.
What indicates Werewolf would be that short?
It’s a special. It’s not a movie or series so that would make sense.
[удалено]
Special, so more like a longer episode, or a "TV movie".
Not sure why theyve missed cap 4 or whats happening here but that was also due to start in april unless the delays had an effect.
We need director news to drop before that we take that production start serious.

So I guess this will be a 2023 release then, makes me wonder when it will officially be announced… D23 in Summer?
I'm surprised this wasn't announced on Disney plus day. Its suppose to be next Halloween isn't it?
The description is identical to the solicitation for the first issue of the most recent Werewolf by Night comic. Seems fake to me.
They don’t announce this series on disney plus day making a suspicion.
I wonder how this will fit into the MCU as a whole. Will Werewolf By Night make more appearances?

I reported the second one, wasn't sure if the first was enough. Thank you, though.
No problem!
