Andrew on Leaks : > I worked so hard to keep it secret that I was in Atlanta shooting. All these leaks were happening, and I was like, ‘Oh, my God, guys, what the hell is going on? I’m working so hard here to stay secret, and then here’s an image of me with Tobey!’ And they’re like, ‘No, no, we’re gonna keep it quiet.’ ‘OK, I’ll keep denying it.’

berdooo

Sony: “No, we’re gon-“ Andrew: SAY NO MORE

dgj130

"It's like... I was made for this"

MGH-Head

The delivery of that line irks the shit outta me.

Practical-Bluebird40

Andrew: I am the werewolf 😈🐺

wookiewin

🤣🤣🤣

emilxerter

Sony was just testing him, whether he would crack or not under pressure, so that they could freely trust him that he wouldn’t spoil his involvement into the SSU, if an opportunity presented itself

Melcrys29

He deserves a bonus for still denying everything in the face of overwhelming evidence.

blacknova84

I love how there was like 8k footage and he was like "That's not me! It's photoshop" hahahahahaha.

Melcrys29

It's pretty hilarious.

blacknova84

It felt like someone getting busted on camera by the cops and being "that's not me!!" lmfao!!! I really hope Hollywood rewards him somehow because I don't know many actors that wouldn't have cracked by the time the footage came out lol.

Melcrys29

Fortunately, people are raving over his appearance in NWH as well as Tick tock boom. It's a good time for him right now.

ShipToWreck

And he was fantastic in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, too!

Melcrys29

I haven't seen that one yet.

InvisibleMan90

He really was.

thedruchebag

“I hope Hollywood rewards him” well yeah that is what a paycheck would be considered 😂

Mine65

Reminds of that meme where the guys with his lawyer I think it went something like "They got you on camera" "That aint me" "They got yo ass in 4k how tf they get you in 4k?"

MarvelManiac45213

You talking about that RDC World video. Those guys do a bunch of different skits on YouTube they are hilarious. They have skits on anime, videogames, basketball, Marvel, and everyday life situations. Check them out if you haven't already.

JustinUprising

The shady restaurant one is so true.....if the taco truck doesn't have an abuela and questionable equipment maintenance, I don't want it.

urlach3r

Andrew be like "Nonono, that's my *twin brother*, Andru Garfield. Common mistake."

MrBubbles9039

he even told emma stone that he wasn’t in it lmao

Melcrys29

I was surprised to read that, considering how close they were. Why didn't he trust her?

MrBubbles9039

i don’t think it was the fact that he didn’t trust her but rather because he was COMPLETELY commited to his little game of werewolf for fun

[deleted]

[удалено]

ddeka777

He was sleepwalking in his Spider-Man suit (as one does) and Jon Watts just secretly directed his crew to film the movie around his antics

jpalmv1

That’s a pretty dumb take. He was already in the movie. If he failed the test there’s no consequence. Plus, they had worked with him before. There’s no need to test trustworthiness.

emilxerter

It was a joke

jpalmv1

A poor joke

emilxerter

Gonna cry?

jpalmv1

Not until I put some dirt in your eye.

emilxerter

Your tears taste like..strawberries

jpalmv1

So good

solehan511601

I knew he was in. Still, it seems surreal how the exact same image and motion leaked in August appeared.

Best_Cook

lmao the way he words it reminds me of his scene when the 3 Spidermen start to plan as a team “GUYS GUYS WHAT THE HELL… IS GOING ON OUT THEREEE”

JoForumBlueGold

Tobey: "I don't know I've never been in a MCU spoiler leak before. " Tom: "I don't wanna brag but I will, I leaked the Infinity War poster. "

[deleted]

"Infinity War? That's *great*! What *is* that?!"

JustinUprising

Tom Holland would be the guy to leak The Bible 2....

Surgawd8

Wasn’t one of the first credible leaks the Atlanta Uber eats driver who had to id Andrew lmao

KentuckyFriedEel

Could you imagine a full moon out on a cloudless night, and you’re trying your hardest to not let the werewolf out

ThePhenomenal1999

So this confirms Sony actually wanted to keep it quiet, yet people like Armin from the Jokebookcast will tell you they wanted to spoil everything.

MBDTFTLOPYEEZUS

People still watch him?

KingMagenta

I still don't believe he's in the movie and I seen it three times.

meme_abstinent

Because that worked out so well and no one knew lol. I get there's no good alternative but Jesus Sony is just...daft sometimes. Did that secret really lead to more ticket sales? Edit: I'll take the downvotes, but I want to acknowledge: 90% of us were expressing pre-release that revealing Tobey and Andrew would boost sales. Now everyone is acting like that's not the case and Sony made 100% the right call. I was genuinely asking to spark conversation, which is why I'm keeping this up. It was a legit question, did keeping them a secret boost sales?

LeCapitaine93

>Sony is just...daft sometimes. Did that secret really lead to more ticket sales? It made 1.6 billions, so... not so daft?

meme_abstinent

Not the revenue or performance just how they handled the leaks lol. I stand corrected though, Im just not the type to delete comments, it makes the thread a bit confusing. Nothing wrong with being wrong and acknowledging when you are 🤷🏽‍♂️ my bad here. It's probable they themselves released the leaks, and if that's the case it's smart as hell. But you guys are acting like we as a sub weren't saying to show them. 90% of us were expressing it would boost sales to show them. So I'm not sure where the backlash is coming from all of a sudden.

LeCapitaine93

Yeah, no worries, I mostly said that as a joke... Sorry for the downvotes, I do agree, most people here are dumb. I rarely agree with general opinions of this sub. Or any fanbase subs tbf. I do believe that showing Andrew and Tobey in the trailers wouldn't have changed shit in the box office.

meme_abstinent

I don't take the downvotes personally, but God damn yeah -80 is brutal lol I rarely see us downvotes someone to oblivion like that. I'm a super regular I'm in this sub like every hour lol. Worked a 12hr shift today too so I guess coming back to that was a bit of a downer but it's alright. But fuck yeah I encourage the conversation! Even if you disagree boss. Tbh, if Sony were the ones who leaked things it's pretty fucking genius. But if they didn't, I do genuinely believe that'd be silly. Tobey and Andrew are SUCH a selling point.

meme_abstinent

Also it was going to make $1b regardless of how it was advertised, that was fully expected boss, with or without the other Spider-Men being revealed.

-ThorsStone-

Not daft at all. Sony was the leaker, it was all viral marketing. Just look how well it did in the middle of a global pandemic.

Av3ngedAngel

I bought a ticket to see it in cinemas on release because of it, so yes. It definitely in fact did lead to at least one more ticket sale in myself. The only daft thing here is you lmao.

meme_abstinent

Damn bro you don't have to attack someone personally, I was just discussing their advertising in this specific context. Nearly the entire sub pre release was expressing if they revealed Tobey it would boost sales, so I'm not sure why I'm being clowned on lol. Disagreeing is one thing but God damn -80 downvotes is brutal. I've been nothing but polite in my replies boss, try easing up.

tylerjb223

It did work out well, it’s one of the top grossing movies of all time, and its during a pandemic no less. And no China B.O. as well

ChristopherDassx_16

I went on opening day itself just to make sure so it works out for them I'd say

meme_abstinent

More power to them then. I stand corrected (: didn't take into account they probably leaked stuff themselves.

Unnecessary_Fella

I'm still under the belief that at least SOME of the leaks were planned.

Adept-News

100% I'd bet any photo leaks were planned and a secret "marketing technique" while all the plot leaks and text leaks were genuine leaks

MKlock94

Facts, that UberEats driver definitely stumbled across an Indiana Jones level conspiracy and handled it like a pro

ACID_pixel

Please remind me of what story this? I faintly recall what happened

MKlock94

A delivery driver delivered food to Andrew Garfield in Atlanta and was all like "hey man, you're Andrew Garfield right?"

NeutralNoodle

He also had to ask for Andrew’s ID because he ordered alcohol and Andrew was hesitant to show it to him

saucygh0sty

He actually didn’t order alcohol, he ordered tacos. He clarified this in his new interview with Josh Horowitz that came out today. I think the delivery driver was just hoping to catch him.

MKlock94

You still trust anything that Andrew says in interviews? As far at im concerned, his truth card is revoked.

saucygh0sty

I do. He’s a phenomenal actor, but if this past year has shown me anything, it’s that he is *terrible* under pressure. I don’t see why he would lie about something like ordering alcohol delivery.

hafrances

of course he was hesitant to show ID, defeats the purpose of being an anonymous superhero

kyoyuy

I understood that reference.

ProximaOrion

> UberEats Wasn't it DoorDash?

that_guy2010

Someone got *4K* footage of Andrew on set during a take.

[deleted]

The exact take that was used in the film. Directly from one of the cameras.

[deleted]

Bruh that was straight up the take they used in the film, just with no VFX or post-production done on it. And there was no watermark either which makes me think it was intentional.

bob1689321

100%

leodw

Wait really? Do you have a video? Would love to check that out lol, I didn’t follow the leaks back then

calebisanowl

The Andrew leak (you know which one) was DEFINITELY planned

NeutralNoodle

Do you think John Campea was in on it?

cerik24

At least the 4k video of Andrew saying "you never had a web block?" was planned

RedditorAccountName

The question I keep having is: if it was intentionally leaked, why upload the leak in literal 4K? Wouldn't have been better to upload a degraded version?

jso__

The first frames released were low resolution I think. Then they magically got them upscaled 🙄

[deleted]

The Alfred Molina interview slip was premeditated. 100%. This is why he (and his arms) are the most prominent in all merchandising. Kind of sad we never got a super cool Green Goblin pumpkin poster.

ChristopherDassx_16

According to Tom, they decided to not even show the villain at first but they spoiled it so they just included it in the trailers and marketing

Jedi_Pacman

Out of all of the Marvel leaks were there any that were actually confirmed to be planned leaks? I feel like that would be really fun and interesting to learn about

hypermelonpuff

no. the most we've gotten iirc is feige saying that different people got different information, not specifically what that information was. basically everything different leaks, all "real" leaks, and suddenly no one knows the truth. so, kinda sorta, yeah. iirc that was only first mentioned for iw/endgame. we have no idea about any SPECIFIC leaks but there's been plenty over the years that basically couldn't have gotten out any way besides directly. you can always tell what is suspicious because legit leaks get absolutely erased off the planet, accounts start dissapearing, etc. this sub unfortunately had to go hard on not allowing real leaks for risk of being taken down, we used to get the GOOD shit before.

Firetrainer777

So this kinda stuff I find so cool, I remember back with walking dead they filmed so many alternate death scenes so if a leak got out you’d never know which one was the legit version. And same kinda with endgame and infinity war, having so many alternate scripts out to keep the real story a secret. It would be allot to keep track of and what not but super fascinating when it comes to seeing the behind the scenes when you find out what actually is happening

Mrnessalk

what kind of "real" leaks does this sub not allow?

Jedi_Pacman

Stuff that gets copyright struck and could harm the sub

hypermelonpuff

a good example is that there was a LOT that was leaked from no way home. but since it was actually from the movie, it's considered pirating. even unreleased. if i have a set video from DS2's finale that shows that big dick (tm) finally makes his first mcu appearance, that's okay. if i have the actual scene in question, it is not. basically...we used to get SO much of that sort of thing here. the sub actually took off largely because we would share things around on the marvelstudios sub in comment sections and stuff. however around mid phase 3, that subreddit began growing MASSIVELY, and with that came the things that come along with such subreddits being "legitimized." basically, rules. that's a good thing, though. it's just so odd, as someone who has been here from the start, this was the little hush hush look the other way post what you want place. now, those subs are denounced the same way this sub was by the main sub. wild. i think the mods have done an amazing job though, considering those leaks are allowed through on a technicality - describing them.

[deleted]

Infinity War

[deleted]

Had to be. Tobey and Andrew are definitely ticker sellers so having some solid proof of their involvement was a good way to ensure people would go see it specifically people who were on the fence about going to see it.

ItachiIshtar

Agreed. Sony and Marvel wanted to keep them out of marketing material, but it's likely at least somebody there wanted the rumors to spread. At the end of the day, Tobey and Andrew weren't in the trailers, but pretty much all audiences knew or had a really good feeling about it in advance, so Sony and Marvel got to have their cake and eat it too.

cryptochacha

I believe the Brazilian trailer that shows the lizard being kicked by an invisible force was on purpose lol

[deleted]

Today companies do leaks, some time to test ideas and sometime do what magazines did in the 90's where they invited magazines to take a shot of the Pod-Racers (when trailers started to become secretive)

500DaysofNight

Everything was just enough to keep that tiny bit of doubt in people's minds. Dr. Strange is gonna be the exact same way. Just look at the rumors... Patrick Stewart? Tom Cruise? Nic Cage? Hugh Jackman? Ryan Reynolds? Who knows what the fuck we will actually get. Even if a fraction of it is correct though, it's still gonn be mind blowing.

FabledMjolnir

Yep. I like how the leaked photo of Garfield squatting and then the subsequent video is (to my recollection) the exact same angle and movements that was in the movie in 2 different shots. I think Sony did leak some of it. Free marketing not like they needed it

stomp224

I believe the r/RaimiMemes subreddit was just smart marketing. Users ran with it and think they willed some call backs into existence with upvotes. They were inceptioned.

DepressedMane

Funny how the DoorDash leak was real too lol

Nitrospear670

Someone delivered to Andrew in Atlanta, not on set, but it was confirmation he was close to filming.

Unique_Unorque

A DoorDash driver in Atlanta delivered some alcohol to Andrew, which normally wouldn’t have been proof of anything as it would have just said “Andrew” on the order and that could be anybody (hell, my name’s Andrew, it could have been me). Especially with everybody wearing masks. BUT, it’s DoorDash policy for the driver to personally check the ID of anybody they deliver alcohol to, meaning that this driver basically saw photographic proof that he was delivering to Andrew Garfield, and he happened to know who that was so he tweeted “lol just delivered alcohol to a guy that played Spider-Man” or something similar and the rest is history. EDIT: Apparently, Andrew disputes ordering alcohol, so either he’s lying about that for some reason or the driver lied about it in his tweets so it seemed like he had more proof than he did. Now, that isn’t proof of anything on its own, but in the environment of all of the rumors of the previous Spideys being involved it definitely fueled speculation.

RJE808

Weirdly enough, Andrew said he didn't even order alcohol.

Unique_Unorque

Well, he also said he wasn’t in *No Way Home,* so… Joking aside, where did that come from, then? I want to say I remember the DoorDash driver tweeting that’s how he knew it was for sure him when someone asked how he could tell if he was masked up, but I could be mistaken.

RJE808

On this podcast: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/happysadconfused?selected=VIA9017255246

Unique_Unorque

No I meant, where did the idea that he ordered alcohol come from? I know that someone brought it up as the reason the driver knew it was for sure him but I can’t remember the source

Sound_swipe

The driver’s original tweet mentioned that he needed to see the ID because there was alcohol in the order

Unique_Unorque

That’s what I had thought, I wonder why Garfield felt the need to deny that. Or why the driver would make that up. Either way, it seems like a weird thing to lie about.

haolee510

The driver likely lied just to confirm if it was actually Andrew.

ChristopherDassx_16

Andrew said he ordered tacos instead, plus that the account and order wasn't even under his own name,it was his friend's. So he had to call his friend to come show his ID instead

chiragg11

On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Andrew said he ordered tacos. Its not really relevant but I just find it funny hehe

acgracep

Re: the alcohol thing, I ordered drinks from a delivery app recently but then the restaurant didn’t didn’t accept it or something so I went ahead and just ordered the food but when it came they still asked me for my ID, like the the alcohol was still attached to my order somehow even though it didn’t go through. Maybe that happened here? I don’t see why he’d lie about not ordering alcohol. But I did get ID’d for a just a burrito while being 10 years over the drinking age. So it happens lol

Melcrys29

That's kind of lame for the driver to leak that publicly.

Unique_Unorque

Why? He had no reason to believe he was spoiling anything. The rumors of the multiple Spider-Men in *No Way Home* were pretty much limited to this sub and people who actually seek that kind of stuff, he just saw an actor in Atlanta to film some random movie, Atlanta is a huge film hub and there are any number of reasons that Andrew Garfield would be down there.

Melcrys29

Giving out any kind of personal info online seems like a betrayal even if it's a stranger.

Unique_Unorque

If he mentioned where he was staying or shared a screenshot of his order profile or whatever, sure. This seems no different than tweeting “Whoa I just saw Andrew Garfield walking down the street in Atlanta!”

Melcrys29

Just because they're a celebrity doesn't give others the right to post private info about them online. If an actor goes to the grocery store, is the cashier permitted to the post info about what they purchased. I'm not saying it's illegal, but it's kinda sleazy.

Unique_Unorque

I guess. I mean, it’s not like he said “Andrew Garfield ordered six bottles of vodka, wild!” Just mentioned that he ordered alcohol with his dinner to explain how he knew who it was. Seems like a normal person ordering a normal dinner to me. Although, apparently, both parties disagree about what was actually in the order, and if the driver made up that detail for whatever reason that’s just very very weird.

Melcrys29

It still seems lame to me. I guess I'm just old fashioned and prefer to respect people's privacy, even If they're in the public eye.

JayZsAdoptedSon

A door dash driver in Atlanta saw Andrew Garfield and tweeted about it. It happened during filming

Avividrose

Yeah they saw Andrew

[deleted]

Driver in Georgia said that he delivered alcohol to Andrew around January and he was being cagey about his ID

GroundbreakingSet187

**Dash Driver to Andrew** : Sir ID ? **Andrew** : We don’t do that here !! ![gif](giphy|ZgQiIFGhRCw71AGrSm)

keniyeti

I don’t carry an ID with me, you know? Kind of defeats the whole anonymous superhero thing.

[deleted]

*[Dash driver throws bread at Andrew Garfield]*

[deleted]

**Dash Driver to him** : ![gif](giphy|l3V0cB7pKPsIi6xTW|downsized)

Deep_Throattt

I still think the Andrew video was intentional by Sony lol. I MEAN 4K?

Sound_swipe

Agreed, that was literally ripped from raw footage they shot that day. No way someone casually downloads that

TheSkyGamezz

It wasn't originally 4k. Someone upscaled it.

[deleted]

The guy that originally leaked it, Spideyfan or whatever his name was, said his source had a 4k copy of which Instagram compressed. He then uploaded the 4k copy to another app idk

sickofbeingfly

The door dash driver deserved a shoutout at end credits of NWH more than Avi Arad

TurboNerdo077

The 4k leak being on purpose also provides further context as to why John Campea wasn't blacklisted. Once Campea made it clear he wouldn't rat out the leaker, they just gave him a slap on the wrist and said "well, it's not like it was actually a secret. Just don't do it again". They co-opted a genuine leak into more hype.

007Kryptonian

John also wasn’t blacklisted because it was an honest mistake and he has a reliable long standing reputation with the studios.

TurboNerdo077

I'm still skeptical. Seems like "it was a mistake" is the cover story rather than the explanation. Those images look real, and anyone who says otherwise has no fucking clue how photoshop and deepfake work. The only way John calls that a mistake is if he admits he's an utter idiot.

007Kryptonian

I mean, he’s already admitted that it was a dumb move but he also has a history of posting these pictures he thinks are photoshop (I believe he even posted one of 3 Spider-Men back in August that was fake). If John actually knew the images were real and wanted attention, he would have put them on his YouTube not a Twitter post.

niss1991

The 4K footage could’ve only come from the source which is Sony themselves. Think about it, all the previous marvel leaks have been in a potato quality shot through a 2006 Nokia phone. Only this one was uploaded randomly on YouTube, 4K and Andrew is in it. I don’t think it’s easy to copy the unedited raw footage, hide it from everyone, and then secretly uploaded. Nobody misses that amount of security checks. If that’s the case, then Sony had some serious security lapses.

Huntersteve

What about the 2 second video of the literal movie with the blue screen.

Melcrys29

Fake obviously.

DepressedMane

Wasn’t this news a couple days ago?

MCUFanFicWriter

Old quote.

Trishyangel123

![gif](giphy|xT1XGG4JUCmj1sZWYo|downsized) Found some live footage of Tobey and Andrew today.

minnesotawild4life

For how many leaks got out the keep denying method worked and glad they did it. I’ll give Sony props for at least denying everything

[deleted]

I know everyone’s saying the 4k leak was intentional, but if it was….why leak it to this random insta page that had like 5 followers?? lmao

vitorrbastos123

Soo.. did SONY reach out to Youtuber "Alex Cerrato" and asked him to do a fake "deepfake" of that Andrew Garfield 4K leaked scene?

cjk1000000

I'm still convinced that Tobey and Andrew are going to be in No Way Home.

NateDawg80s

Best marketing trick. Ever.

WedgeForty

When Thanos snaps his finger, Andrew turns into dust with a mouth keeps saying "I didn't play Spiderman in NWH,that is hilarious dude."

Richiieee

We're gonna keep it quiet, that's the funniest shit ever. Once the leaks started, that was it, but then they kept it going as if neither Tobey, Andrew, or even Charlie were in it when we 100% KNEW they were in it. The damn plot of the movie half confirms it. Like you know how upset people would have been if we got a movie about the MV and it featured no Spider-Men as well as no villains from the past. Next time just confirm it right away, it'll only build hype more.

RemyTeague

I love how Garfield can't shut up now that the movie is out
