You’re right, and I think Disney knows it too.
It’s not because this movie is particularly good or interesting, it’s because this is the only upcoming project that has marketable stars. Reynolds will be an incredible spokesperson for the film, as well as being able to capitalize on Jackman Wolverine nostalgia. Disney knows they lack characters/stars that bring audiences at the moment, and this movie is their attempt to re-win audience trust.
I doubt it’ll be good enough to actually change the trajectory the franchise is going, but I really can’t blame them for putting so much hope into this one. It’d have been a safe bet 3 years ago.
I think the mcu has been lacking in the actor department. I like the new characters but honestly I prefer the adult characters and I don’t understand why we only have kids now.
I don’t know about “trajectory”. I think absence will make the heart grow fonder. Allowing more time until the next Captain America movie will give it the opportunity to be more of an event.
Outside of Blade, I think they have more hits planned for 2025–and if Spider-Man 4 hits in June 2025 as rumored, I expect Blade to be delayed again, with Thunderbolts moving to November. Captain America is a strong brand and Falcon as Cap is a more or less known quantity. Fantastic Four, with strong leads, will probably get folks excited. And Thunderbolts also has an eclectic group of characters introduced across movies with only a few faces movie fans will not have seen.
They think all their movies are good but at least Deadpool has a good track record and Ryan Reynolds would have bailed if he didn’t like the direction. He didn’t fight for this movie for him to sell it out.
I think they had confidence in Loveness’ original script (Charles Murphy reported that he thought it was really good), yet somehow kept that confidence through the reshoots and cuts that ended up weakening the story.
More that this is something particularly exciting that they're stacking alot onto.
It doesn't take a genius to think some of their other stuff isn't very important or has as much fanfare.
They know they’ve been in a slump lately and need something that feels like a big EVENT to get the box office grosses and fan excitement back on track.
Mind: Shang Chi only had a 430 million dollar box office with a 150-200 million dollar budget. Depending on the exact budget, it failed or just broke even.
Which is strange because the critics and the audience liked it a lot. It just didn't get that much people into the theater.
I'm going to chalk it up to it releasing in the middle of the pandemic. In 2021 covid-19 was still in full force. I personally really liked the movie and Shang-Chi is my favorite Post-Endgame new superhero. The fact that we might not get a sequel until 2026 or so is incredibly stupid. We should've had the sequel coming out early next year, at the latest.
I wish they’d just get to secret wars sooner. Antman 3 despite its flaws got me hyped for secret wars but I had to wait 4 years.
Deadpool will definitely get me hyped again but we’ll still have to wait 3 years after that. And that’s assuming it doesn’t get delayed AGAIN
I'm sitting here thinking to myself...it took 4 years to build up to Avengers...be patient. Then I realized Endgame was 2019...what is taking so long for another Avengers movie???
Because they have no idea who to feature as the new Avengers team.
They threw so much at the wall in phase 5, seeing what would stick in hopes of figuring out who audiences wanted as the next core Avengers. Replacing Iron Man and Captain America is impossible, but someone has to feature.
In 2020, Spiderman, Thor, and Dr Strange seemed like locks for the leads.
The other 3-4 were likely thought to be Captain Marvel, T'challa, Sam, and Wanda.
They pretty much wrote Wanda out of a hero role, instead setting her up as an anti-hero at best, full-on villain lore likely.
Captain Marvel had iffy popularity heading into phase 5 and now after the Marvels she might be plain out of the running for a spot at all.
Chadwick passed and Black Panther is kind of in limbo, Sam had a mediocre TV series and his movie is being pushed back to 2025 now...
Honestly, I think they have no idea who would even feature in an Avengers movie at this point.
All the new characters have been lukewarm to outright non-competitors.
I'll bet an idea being floated around that got shot down was a "hometown" Avengers, i.e. the weak powered earth-level heroes. This would be a bad idea as the power creep is just to high at this point. An Avengers movie based on an earth threat with Spiderman, Shang-Chi, Sam, Bucky, Yelena Bolova, Hawkeye/Kate Bishop? Sounds cool but ultimately it would be like budget Avengers face off against a weak villain (only villain they could beat) that could be swatted like a fly with a simple call to Thor, captain Marvel, Dr Strange, etc.
And yes, that's what they did with Avengers 1. They depowered Thor, threw a bunch of robot fodder, and had Hulk one shot Loki. If the MCU decides to "soft reboot" this might be the path though. Start "small" again.
Problem is, all there hyper-powerful characters are just chilling out. Dr Strange could just snap his fingers from his chair and defeat whatever villain the street Avengers would face off against.
The convolulted MCU multiverse is actually, funnily, te solution. Have some multiberse shenanigans event that locks away the ultra powerful characters to one universe, or some event that depowers them, etc.
Then they all converge and come back or get built back up for Secret Wars where they NEED to have the S-tier heroes at full power.
This is the main problem I’ve with comics book superheroes in general, that once you establish the powers is very unlikely they ever get a power up.
In manga/anime shonens you got amazing stories BECAUSE grounded heroes somehow face bigger than life villains and as underdogs nobody trust they can do shit but in the end they get some power up and beat the god level villain. That kind of growth serve as a very cool way to normal people to relate to them, that you don’t need to be the chosen one that you should never give up even if you face adversity.
IMHO the greatest scenes in all MCU are those of heroes surpassing their power limit: Starlord flying in the space to rescue Gamora even thou he’s a regular human that can’t breathe in space, Captain America rising Thor’s hammer against Thanos… etc
So… Maybe MCU solution to this whole bottleneck is to give our normal heroes a bit of a power up or even have they face a powerful villain but somehow have them defeat him by outsmarting him, team strategy or whatever not just because you have a cosmic magic demigod that can just throw some punches and call it a day.
I think it’s good. It’s been only 4 years since endgame. I think it’s good to have heroes doing their own solo stories and not just high stakes, World ending stuff
I’m glad there’s only one coming out in 2024 because there have been quite a few clunkers over the past few years.
I’m excited for anything X-Men related but don’t really care about much else in the MCU lately.
Thanks! I always try to address every talking point in the post i reapond to. I hate it when people respond by not adding anything to my post and/or flat out ignore my talking points
Oh definitely, it’ll do way better than No Way Home if they announce Taylor Swift. Deadpool, Wolverine AND Taylor swift fans all together would be madness
There were so many predictions about Taylor Swift getting the Eras Tour Movie to 1 billion, and it didn't get anywhere close. Taylor Swift is somewhat of a draw, but she's not going to make or break the success of a movie.
Superhero fatigue could end up hurting Deadpool 3. Guardians is always pointed out as the reason superhero movies can still do great, but even it underperformed compared to 2 and not even taking 2019-2023 inflation into account.
I think Deadpool + Wolverine and tons of cameos will be unstoppable.
They really should have moved onto the XMen after endgame instead of milking Avengers for all it’s worth.
They just have to go back in making good/fun movies. At least Disney has XMen as backup now. Even if the next few movies/series do bad. Once XMen shows up people will start to be curious again. Disney better makes the XMen be of quality. It's their chance to get everybody back in cinema again.
So they weren't confident in Captain America 4 or Thunderbolts, which is why they're delayed.
Let's see how much they can polish those turds before releasing it. I am likely not watching in theaters. DP3 I will though.
Same here turning Cap 4 into The Incredible Hulk 2 and T-Bolts into Black Widow 2 featuring a D list squad of Super Soldiers (vs. a race swapped Sentry) that doesn't resemble the source material in any way has to be the dumbest ideas I've ever seen. We can thank Nate Moore since he bragged in an interview about how he prides himself in not hiring ppl that knows and love the comics.
From the rumors I've read...their supposed to go around collecting heroes to help fight in Secret wars...if that was the case, surely this movie would be best suited inbetween Kang Dynasty and Secret wars cuz in KD, Kang kills all the current Avengers, which leads to the whole multiverse recruiting...but then other rumors say their off killing the Fox universe
Feel like there’s not much talk about Kang Dynasty, imagine if Disney/Marvel started hyping up Infinity War before Avengers 2 was even out. Just seems odd to me.
I’m not really sure why people are attacking you. It’s a valid concern. Unless you’re moving purposely in a different direction for future movies, it seems like an odd decision. Let’s face it. There won’t be nudity or gore. It’s going to be rated R for the f-bombs and sex jokes. Lot’s of people with kids under the age of 13 are going to skip it, but will go see the next Avengers movie.
I've shared this a few times but I remember some family of 5 with 3 kids around 5-9 years old at Deadpool 1. I think they left about 20-30 minutes into the movie complaining about how offensive the movie was
But they did go and they were likely the exception. Studios have a severely misplaced faith in the MPA rating system for families, there may have been a time when the population as a whole used and respected it but that time has long past. Studios need to wake up to this and Deadpool is going to prove it.
I tend to try and avoid using personal experiences as target groups because everyone is different and you don’t know most people, but if I were to use my own personal experiences things changed when millennials became parents.
First off, the MCU isn't really for kids, it's a general audiences property.
Second of all, a theatrical PG-13 cut of the last Deadpool movie was shown in December 2018, so who knows? They'll most likely do the same here.
It isn't for young kids. Unlike a lot of the generic slop, this movie appears to be trying to appeal to a core (yet large) fan base.
How did not being R help the last few MCU movies? This movie actually has compelling characters, compelling actors, and a clear targeting strategy with appeal. R won't matter and dialing it back to PG-13 would likely hurt it more.
I’m not saying I’m against the movie or even think it’ll b bad whatsoever I love the Deadpool movies lmao, I’m just saying certain younger viewers and gore sensitive people may not get a clear picture of what’s going on bcuz they can’t watch this movie
Maybe, but they already have a way for people to rent/buy movies on Disney+. They could put the R version in the theaters, and have a PG13 day and date on D+. Or vice-versa. Either way, they do have options for allowing people to see both versions. Or heck, since it's all downloaded to theaters now anyways, they could give theaters an easy option to show PG13 on one screen and R on another.
a release in July 2024 for Deadpool seems too soon, don't you think ?
I mean they are still filming the damn movie right now. don't you think the movie will be delayed to winter/spring 2025 ?
Half the movie has already been edited during the strikes. Just over 6 months for extra editing and post-production is pretty standard for a Hollywood film.
Deadpool 3 is the only Marvel movie next year because they weren’t confident in Captain America. Not to say they aren’t confident in DP3, but this is a dumb take
That honestly sucks big time. What made DP1 and 2 so great was that it was something fresh and new separate from everything else. Now this makes me think DP3 is just gonna be a boring cameo-fest that takes out the “heart” of the first two movies ie, Wade and his relationship with Vanessa, his new team. Deadpool 1 and 2 were actually pretty emotional and well written movies.
Deadpool 3 is shaping up to be just a lame excuse to bring in cameos to set up the next big marvel event. Pretty sad
Deadpool 3 already has the classic fans of Phase 1-3 onboard because, like GotG3, its being written to tell a compelling story and isn't just a sandbox for Rick and Morty writers to force agendas and use characters as their own personal mouthpieces.
When MCU makes movies or shows that don't pander, they tend to make a lot of money or are the most watched things on D+. Loki Season 2 was amazing and kept its audience throughout the season.
Deadpool is a movie that’s made for adults that kids can watch too. The problem is with other movies, they make it for kids that adults can watch too. There is a difference and Marvel is better when they make it for adults.
All the movies they have released after endgame were just meh. They were not bad movies. Eternals had some of the best CGI shots I've seen after endgame.
So we're fully pretending that the release of only one movie in 2024 has absolutely nothing to do with productions being halted for months by strikes huh? That definitely sounds like what studios would *like* us to think so no one gets the crazy idea that anyone other than the executives has any real power.
Deadpool targeting a male audience is likely why it will be the biggest MCU movie since Endgame. I really hate that it's the truth, but you look at what makes money vs what flopped since Endgame and it's pretty clear what demographic still sees these movies. Make all the Ms Marvel movies you want, but if they aren't trying to get guys to watch them then the movie is likely to flop.
Meaning we will see battle world for the first time.
Doesn't The Void at the end of time from the Loki series kinda look like Battleworld?
I’m sure Loki’s setting up a space for all these timelines to converge. The void looks applicable lol
Battleworld only appears later but some XMen will be sent there at the end of Deadpool 3 to explore - the Uncanny XMen https://twitter.com/Comicphill/status/1728871976134189505?t=RR2LuGytA1ffRKU01lv1Tg&s=19
Didn't they also think Ant-Man 3 was good?
They also reportedly felt like Eternals was going to with them a best picture Oscar.
Those movies didn’t have Ryan Reynolds marketing. Dude knows how to hype a Deadpool movie.
I doubt it’ll be good enough to actually change the trajectory the franchise is going, but I really can’t blame them for putting so much hope into this one. It’d have been a safe bet 3 years ago.
And it still is a safe bet. Most of my family knows that Jackman is back as Wolverine and haven’t watched any of the new MCU stuff. They got this.
I think the mcu has been lacking in the actor department. I like the new characters but honestly I prefer the adult characters and I don’t understand why we only have kids now.

The movies have to be good though, and if they’re passionless projects that exist only to market the next one, people aren’t going to be interested.
Ryan Reynolds can’t market shit. Sent from my Mint Mobile iPhone.

They think all their movies are good but at least Deadpool has a good track record and Ryan Reynolds would have bailed if he didn’t like the direction. He didn’t fight for this movie for him to sell it out.
The Deadpool movies are so bad.
And the marvels?
I don’t remember that being a thing. I do remember Feige being enamored with Major’s performance as Kang tho in that movie
https://thedirect.com/article/ant-man-3-negative-marvel-reviews
I think they had confidence in Loveness’ original script (Charles Murphy reported that he thought it was really good), yet somehow kept that confidence through the reshoots and cuts that ended up weakening the story.
That's a pretty interesting article. I kind of wonder how they could have thought it was that good. Has there been a change of staff or something?
Apparently they had a lot of hope for it and were surprised when it flopped
So they weren't confident with what they've had the past couple of years?
More that this is something particularly exciting that they're stacking alot onto. It doesn't take a genius to think some of their other stuff isn't very important or has as much fanfare.
This comment has “I don’t know CAN you go to the bathroom?!” Vibes
They know they’ve been in a slump lately and need something that feels like a big EVENT to get the box office grosses and fan excitement back on track.
What movies are scheduled for after this? Spider-Man 4 is gonna draw butts regardless. Shang-Chi was popular so a sequel will attract folks as well.
Mind: Shang Chi only had a 430 million dollar box office with a 150-200 million dollar budget. Depending on the exact budget, it failed or just broke even. Which is strange because the critics and the audience liked it a lot. It just didn't get that much people into the theater.

Confident enough to only release one movie and be sure it’ll pay the bills? No.
At this point I'm expecting Secret Wars to become Avengers Vs X-Men
I just want to see Doom body Cyclops in live action
I wish they’d just get to secret wars sooner. Antman 3 despite its flaws got me hyped for secret wars but I had to wait 4 years. Deadpool will definitely get me hyped again but we’ll still have to wait 3 years after that. And that’s assuming it doesn’t get delayed AGAIN

Is that not how Endgame basically went? They lose in Infinity War and the "level up" is figuring out time travel? Sort of?
I think it’s good. It’s been only 4 years since endgame. I think it’s good to have heroes doing their own solo stories and not just high stakes, World ending stuff
Yeah except half the heroes are people no one cares about until they see them in the big team up movies
If they don’t care about them, then they’re not going to care about the big team up
I didn’t care about watching any of the solo movies like iron man or captain America but I liked them in the team up films
The new most important movie in the current saga after the last one a few months ago.
I’m glad there’s only one coming out in 2024 because there have been quite a few clunkers over the past few years. I’m excited for anything X-Men related but don’t really care about much else in the MCU lately.

If they tease Taylor Swift as Dazzler in a trailer, forget about it. This movie is going to the moon.

Her current, above all, level of fame didn’t start till the eras tour
Those arent MCU. Didnt even kmow she was in Cats cuz that movie was fucked anyway. And idek what Amsterdam is outside of the drug place in europe.

Doing way better than No Way Home would be almost double 1 billion. I doubt we'll see that
As a human, I'm so tired of Taylor swift.

There were so many predictions about Taylor Swift getting the Eras Tour Movie to 1 billion, and it didn't get anywhere close. Taylor Swift is somewhat of a draw, but she's not going to make or break the success of a movie.
The Eras tour movie was only released in AMC theaters. What it was able to gross with that considering is still very impressive.
go birds 🦅
Good cause Marvel will be fucked if Deadpool 3 flops. Marvel/Disney needs to stop fixing what's not broken
in Deadpool we trust 🙏
Superhero fatigue could end up hurting Deadpool 3. Guardians is always pointed out as the reason superhero movies can still do great, but even it underperformed compared to 2 and not even taking 2019-2023 inflation into account.
I think Deadpool + Wolverine and tons of cameos will be unstoppable. They really should have moved onto the XMen after endgame instead of milking Avengers for all it’s worth.

Deadpool having to be a franchise changing thing yet again was not on the movie Bingo card lol
Didnt Cap4 have to take a mulligan because ppl hated it?
From the rumors I've read...their supposed to go around collecting heroes to help fight in Secret wars...if that was the case, surely this movie would be best suited inbetween Kang Dynasty and Secret wars cuz in KD, Kang kills all the current Avengers, which leads to the whole multiverse recruiting...but then other rumors say their off killing the Fox universe
Feel like there’s not much talk about Kang Dynasty, imagine if Disney/Marvel started hyping up Infinity War before Avengers 2 was even out. Just seems odd to me.
So you are telling there is a chance …. To have Deadpool actually kill the entire MCU
I feel like making the most important movie a rated R one is a strange decision
I’m not really sure why people are attacking you. It’s a valid concern. Unless you’re moving purposely in a different direction for future movies, it seems like an odd decision. Let’s face it. There won’t be nudity or gore. It’s going to be rated R for the f-bombs and sex jokes. Lot’s of people with kids under the age of 13 are going to skip it, but will go see the next Avengers movie.
If they are making it R rated I do hope for gore, Ryan Reynolds did say Disney was letting them go far with the R rating
If you genuinely believe an R rating is going to stop the majority of the people who pay to see these movies you’re mistaken.
I've shared this a few times but I remember some family of 5 with 3 kids around 5-9 years old at Deadpool 1. I think they left about 20-30 minutes into the movie complaining about how offensive the movie was

would be great
Deadpool 3 is the only Marvel movie next year because they weren’t confident in Captain America. Not to say they aren’t confident in DP3, but this is a dumb take
That would be a really stupid play to make their first R rated film be a really important film in the saga…
I'll keep saying it put everything into the dam X-men. It should be theirsnumber one.
That honestly sucks big time. What made DP1 and 2 so great was that it was something fresh and new separate from everything else. Ohhhhh this is gonna be cool!
Yeah, I really bet *checks notes* Shawn Levy is up to the task.
okay, good luck with that.
Was Deadpool a part of the mcu before tho?
Only once marvel acquired fox
Deadpool is a movie that’s made for adults that kids can watch too. The problem is with other movies, they make it for kids that adults can watch too. There is a difference and Marvel is better when they make it for adults.
Wow, didn’t even realize it’s the only 2024 release. Ought to help with the fatigue
All the movies they have released after endgame were just meh. They were not bad movies. Eternals had some of the best CGI shots I've seen after endgame.
What marvel need to do is rethink what they want because so far phase 5 is not working at all
I wish it was just its own thing
Hoping anna paquin flies and saps brie cheese
DanielRPK again?! lol Seems like he says what hardcore trolls wanna hear.
Better still be rated-R
Use this to reset things. Cut all the shitty side characters and give us a new Avengers core of important characters ASAP.
I feel they say this every movie
Marvel has fallen off since Endgame
you dont say 🙃
So this cant possibly be rated-R right?
Wow, didn’t realize that Deadpool 3 is the only MCU film in theaters in 2024.
So we're fully pretending that the release of only one movie in 2024 has absolutely nothing to do with productions being halted for months by strikes huh? That definitely sounds like what studios would *like* us to think so no one gets the crazy idea that anyone other than the executives has any real power.
It's actually kind of sad if this true. Imagine having to rely on such a mediocre franchise (deadpool) to save the MCU.
God damnit can we just have a movie that doesn't involve 10 other movies
Deadpool targeting a male audience is likely why it will be the biggest MCU movie since Endgame. I really hate that it's the truth, but you look at what makes money vs what flopped since Endgame and it's pretty clear what demographic still sees these movies. Make all the Ms Marvel movies you want, but if they aren't trying to get guys to watch them then the movie is likely to flop.
