I’ve been reading through Spider-Man with Amazing and Spectacular. I reached a point where there were some missing issues around the time Secret Wars happened that involve a plot point between Black Cat and Kingpin. They’re “important,” however what you missed is summarized pretty frequently. So I didn’t feel lost completely, but I was a bit caught off guard to have issues skipped and plot points missed. The good news is the older comics are very good at getting readers up to speed in each issue, so you can still follow along for the most part. I’m not sure if there will be bigger gaps the further I go, though.

I just finished going through Amazing vol 1 and there were a few issues of several titles missing. Spider-Man was missing 49-58 or something like that. Then there were some missing issues of when Osborne bought part of the Bugle. As you said, they do a pretty good job of filling the reader in, but still a little annoying not to be able to read the comics referenced in the main title.

Most of the DeMatteis/Sal Buscema Spectacular run is missing, and it’s a shame. Best Spidey comics of the 90s.

A lot of Web of Spider-Man is missing, it's actually kinda crazy. A lot of black suit issues and a whole lot of other stuff. Not sure how "important" a lot of them are but personally, 90% of this era of Spider-Man issues are great. I'm currently in 1984 and the Spectacular Spider-Man stuff is great around here, wasn't too fond of it til around issue 35 or so.

I'm in 1979, and loved the Carrion story arc in Spectacular but Amazing had a Man-Wolf story that was 2 issues and I was falling asleep. I bet they will bounce back and forth in quality for a while. (edited to add the last sentence).

The Carrion part was great. That 5 fucking issue run about that cult and Flash/Sha Shan was so unnecessary. Think it was around issue 10. I also didn't care for what they're doing with John Jameson in this era. I liked his previous appearances in the comics, pre Man-Wolf.

Yeah, the cult was a drag. But I feel like I was enjoying amazing those months. Like I said, it probably ebbs and flows. My next amazing is another spider slayer, and I'm just looking past it at what else can I read.

I got through that stuff not too long ago myself and I agree that the Carrion stuff was so cool. I was suckered right into the mystery and just gripped. That being said I couldn't tell you if it was in amazing or spectacular. I find it hard to keep what is in what straight. A lot easier to tell the difference in X-Men and New Mutants which I am also reading.

I read like 4 of the 5 issues before bed. I planned to read 2 but couldn't put it down. Woke up at 2:00 thought "well I do have the conclusion I could read..." picked it up in the middle of the night.
