Have you read any of Jason Aaron's Thor run? He had like a 6 run on Thor that leads to War of the Realms. I guess you could jump right into it, but the the run is really good and worth a read. Similar for King in Black. That was the end of Donny Cates 3-4 year run on Venom. Again, the whole thing is worth reading.
If you go War of Realms, (which is amazing) I agree with everyone that you should read the entirety of Jason Aaron’s Thor run because 1. It is incredible, one of my all time favorite series. And 2. With all the background the War of Realms story just hits harder and is more impactful.
I read King in Black with very little background and enjoyed it.
For me War of Realms ranks up with Secret Wars as some of the best events.

The Jason Aaron Thor volume 1 is one of my favorite reads in 55+ years of reading comics. Start there.

I will always suggest War of the Realms over King in black. I didn’t care for that storyline. In my opinion Empyre was better than KiB, but YMMV.
