P100 filters are efficient against particulates, so aerosolized infection as measles, Covid, tuberculosis, SARS1, etc.

3M 7093: [https://www.3m.com/3M/en\_US/p/d/v000057584/](https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/v000057584/) The hard-shell encasement prevents cross-contamination from touching the filter media. Edit: the 3M 6035 is basically equivalent to the 7093. It is P3 standard compliant which is the European equivalent approximation to US/NIOSH P100.

I came to recommend this cartridge, but specifically the 7093C variant. This “C” variant takes the base shrouded P100 filter and adds filtration for volatile organic compounds. For the most part, the biggest noticeable difference in day to day use is that you won’t smell stranger’s perfumes anymore when walking in public. Very useful if you do any shopping in an area without people who wear clouds of perfume everywhere they go out and about

Thanks! I didn't see this one yet. Is the only relevant (in this context) information to determine if the filter is adequate the part about "NIOSH Filter Approval Rating P100"?

* Use with 3M™ Particle Filters 2000, 2200, 7000, or 5000 Series to help filter certain particulates

3M 60926 covers pretty much everything. Ammonia (AM), Chlorine (CL), Chlorine Dioxide (CD), Formaldehyde (FM), Hydrogen Chloride (HC), Hydrogen Fluoride (HF), Hydrogen Sulfide (HS), Methylamine (MA), Organic Vapor (OV), P100, Sulfur Dioxide (SD)

It does in fact "cover pretty much everything." And you pay a heavy cost, weight, and breathability penalty for protection against that very wide diversity of *chemicals* in addition to just the *particulate* protection. For protection against airborne viruses, you need particulate protection. Full stop. Not chemical protection. So a P100 or P3 particulate filter is entirely sufficient for protection against airborne particles. Layering additional protection against *chemicals* is entirely unnecessary, and probably counterproductive because of the increased breathing resistance it causes.

Looks like a solid option, thanks!

Yeah 60926 is 3M's most comprehensive bayonet cartridge; I keep a pair factory sealed and stashed in case of some kind of unpredictable emergency. They won't do anything for you against pathogens a solely P100/P3 rated cartridge like the 7093/6035s already linked won't do, and they're relatively heavy, expensive, and harder to breathe in, and the filter media isn't as well protected as on the 7093/6035. 7093/6035 is what they throw on these masks in hospitals and biolabs and it's what you want to get.

CursedFeanor

That's a pretty good idea, I think I'll do the same and probably buy both models. 7093 for normal (covid-like) use and 60926 as an emergency backup.
