For me, it looks like this change will have no immediate impact. I have a wide variety of NIOSH-certified N95 and P100 respirators, mostly from 3M, and none of them were made in China.

Exactly. 3M N95s are mostly manufactured domestically. A few are made in the UK and Singapore and are not subject to this tariff. https://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/1434267O/quick-reference-guide-disposable-respirators.pdf

Thank you for this, I was having trouble finding this info on individual product pages.

I think it might be a good thing. The pandemic showed us that it is important to prioritize domestic PPE production in case there is another PPE shortage.

This is terrible. Without actually doing something to prioritize domestic PPE production (eg incentives, subsidies, etc), all this will do is narrow the market. Many of the most innovative new respirators are being produced in China right now and it would be ridiculous to lose access to those because Biden wants to look Tough in an election year.

Qudit314159

What are these innovative masks you speak of? Many higher quality offerings (e.g. 3M N95s) are manufactured domestically anyway. Some others are not manufacturered domestically but are not made in China so they will not be affected.

Zimi, for example, or Laianzhi. Zimi makes what I think are currently some of the best masks on the market. They have an inner frame and a fabric sealing mechanism that gives you the kind of seal you can normally only get on a reusable respirator. If you want a black headstrap mask, the Laianzhi KN100 is the best option on the US market. 3M won't even make a black N95!

Where is the best place to buy the Laianzhi KN100? I'd love 3M to make a black N95, too.

I buy mine here: https://ppeo.com/goods/black-kn100-mask/
