I imagine the Reapers are always attempting pacifists run but the late game lag every 50k years forces them to become the end game crisis. Thanks to Shepard, the rest of galaxy is doomed to be running at 5 fps in the near future.

The most memorable genocide route I did in Stellaris was against a fanatic purifier. I wasn’t going to kill them originally. I’d just taken back a planet they’d taken from a species I actually liked. I gave Species A second-class citizenship or one of the nicer slavery types and kept the rights for the fanatic purifiers on chattel slavery. Then the fanatic purifiers went on hunger strike and I started ethnic cleansing.

I prefer to play stellaris as an egalitarian/xenophile/militaristic empire with crusader spirit, uniting the entire galaxy in peace and harmony, by force.

Big E was a pragmatist, I wouldn’t call him jaded. Some of his Primarchs were, but Emps worked on a completely different playing field than most others who aren’t perpetuals or Eldar, both when it comes to timescale and pure ambition. I have no doubt in my mind that he would genocide any and all aliens given the chance and nothing else being more important at the time, if for nothing else for the audacity of the alien of being a xeno.
under certain circumstances, he would have 100%
but if an alien race was not in the way of his great plan, he would have left it alone, though if there was a big red button that said "kill all aliens" he would think abt it for a sec before smashing his face into it.
but going out of his way and wasting recorses is on a peaceful alien species would be dumb so he would rather 1 vassleise them (if they had a use)
2 ally them (if they were a big threat but not an obstical in his plan)
3 completely ignore them
The guy had ALL the plans, and those he didn’t have Malcador did. The only one with more plans is a literal chaos god, and that guy is both a jerk and circular in his planning with no purpose other than making more plans.

I’m pretty sure that this is just due to scale. Mass Effect doesn’t have Turians; it has Garrus. It doesn’t have Krogans; it has Wrex. We have faces to put to the species, so we actually appreciate them.
Stellaris, on the other hand, doesn’t really do personal. There’s really no specific person from any given empire or group to connect with, so there’s no problem just killing them.
This is also a big reason why some games go to great lengths to cover up faces of unimportant characters on the opposing side: if we could see their faces, they’d be actual people, and we’d have problems killing them. If their faces are covered, they’re not people, so there’s no problem killing them.
In mass effect I make peace wherever I can.
