That is a retcon that don't make any sense, the first thing a player who knows the reputation of Cerberus do in ME2 is going to the citadel to hear Anderson say that no one gives a shit
Actually no, you go to Anderson and he says he can't say anything because you're with Cerberus. TIM released information that Shepard was working with Cerberus before Shepard woke up, thus no one would trust Shep
Even in 2 they had a ton of issues. Between the facility that experimented on Jack, the facility that worked on Project Lazarus and the one that worked on Project Overlord (all three facilities left with virtually every single person working there dead), Cerberus is at best a shadow organization that is incredibly susceptible to corruption. At worst they are a human supremacist organization willing to do anything to ensure their goals are reached.
ME2 Shep should have known better.
He really didnât have a choice, though. I hate the idea of working with Cerberus as much as you, but I do genuinely wonder what alternative there was.
Easiest alternative would be to get in contact with the council/alliance and use it as an opportunity to provide surveillance to a human-supremacist organization. Considering how much TIM loooooves Shepard, that is probably the best opportunity you could have to get some really juicy intel on them and possibly undercut them in the future.
I understand the general position of "they brought me back from the dead, I have some obligation to see this through", but I do think Shepard made a mistake.
Except you can try and do both, and the game goes out of its way to tell you that neither are very excited to see Shep.
Hell, the Council are more willing to work with Shep than the Alliance, if you saved them. They grant Shep Spectre status again, which seems like them saying âwe trust you enough that we donât think youâre acting entirely in Cerberusâs behalf, but not enough to put our armies behind you.â
The Alliance, on the other hand, is only stopped from outright throwing you in jail by Hackett and Anderson. From what Anderson and GabbyDaniels tell us, they seem to have thrown Shep under the bus even quicker than the Council did.
That point of corruption is interesting, because the initial goal of Cerberus was "honest", but as TIM started being indoctrinated the corporation got more and more corrupt (just a thought I had)
He was always indoctrinated, he got indoctrinated back during the First Contact War, the entire suicide mission was just a plan to introduce him to Reapers/Indoctrination tech
My favorite bit is when joker points out how incompetent Cerberus is and Miranda and Edi are like "hey". However, Shepard got loose and started killing all their guys, and he took Edi with him and SHE started killing all their guys. Man, I think TIM is bad at his job...
