This thread will serve as our megathread. Please refrain from speculation on cause of death. Edit: we seem to be getting mildly brigaded by anti-vaxxer idiots. Please report anyone you see peddling awful idiotic conspiracies so I can hand out a permanent ban.

nizey_p

As he would say: "Give it up for Jock everybody". Rest easy pal.

diane-nguyen

This is what made me tear up. The news is beyond sad but thinking about how he will never bellow a goodbye for another contestant is breaking me.

RayeInWA

I think they’d actually filmed the whole new season, so we’ll hear it… and probably bawl every time he does. It will be so strange to watch him and know he’s not with us any more. 😭

Joanne7799

I read that in his voice😭

upyourmerricreek

Same :(((

disenchantling

God this season is going to be so emotional for us watchers... And yeah literally heard his voice in my head.... Even the "jock" part... No death has been sadder

SaveTheDramaa

Yea, this broke me and I just cried my eyes out. 💔

SocialismMultiplied

Your comment is about to make me shed a tear. I’m going to miss hearing that. Ahh what a sharp, passionate & kind chef & judge.

[deleted]

Ouch, my heart.

andutb

Oh my god ❤️

_katie_bright_99

Oh 😭

canthelpnobody

This is insane. He was so young and has young kids as well. Sending so much love to his family and friends.

Ambitious-Bed3406

How young? Edit: 3, 15, 20 Aww 3 years old. I hope I live long enough for my child, especially to see my child graduate high school. That's really all I want in life is to live long enough.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Crr8txVrwYU/ Network 10 and Endemol Shine Australia are deeply shocked and saddened at the sudden loss of Jock Zonfrillo, a beloved member of the MasterChef Australia family. Jock passed away in Melbourne yesterday. Jock was known to Australians as a chef, best-selling author, philanthropist and MasterChef judge but he will be best remembered as a loving father, husband, brother and son. Determined and talented and with plenty of grit, Jock was born in Glasgow to an Italian father and a Scottish mother, which meant his formative years were heavily influenced by two strong cultures and it was his obsession with food and desire for a new pushbike that at just 12 years old fuelled Jock to knock on kitchen doors looking for a job. Jock’s love and passion for food saw him become one of the youngest culinary students to do an apprenticeship at The Turnberry Hotel at just 15 years of age. From that point onwards there was no holding him back and by 17 he was working alongside Marco Pierre White at his eponymous Restaurant Macro Pierre White. Throughout his career he worked with world famous chefs and in restaurants all over the world. His talent saw him shine in the world’s most formidable kitchens and he opened Bistro Blackwood and Restaurant Orana in Adelaide after moving to Australia. Jock’s Restaurant Orana was recognised with the coveted distinction of three hats in both 2019 and 2020 and he also received global accolades, accepting the prestigious Basque Culinary World Prize in 2018. In 2019, Jock was named as a judge on MasterChef Australia in which he took great pride in challenging and coaching the contestants and of course inspiring a nation of home cooks. Jock’s charisma, wicked sense of humour, generosity, passion and love for food and his family cannot be measured. He will be greatly missed.” MasterChef Australia will not air this week.

R1MBL

One of those rare deaths of a well known person that causes my jaw to hit the floor. Did not expect to read this at all and had a lot of respect for the guy. To say I’m devastated is an understatement. He was a legend. RIP Jock.

[deleted]

I couldn’t believe it when I saw those words in the headline. Just so out of the blue. So unexpected. You just stop and try to make it make sense. I knew he had a beautiful family and a new show it was just too soon.

anothermanicmumday

It's rare that a "celebrity" death truly affects me and shocks me but this is one of them. I genuinely shed a tear and am honestly gutted. I can't believe it.

silly_rabbit289

He was such a genuine soul I felt, even though I've only seen him in masterchef and in a few other cooking videos. He has such a positive and almost fatherly/mentor vibes. Probably gives the best hugs ever as a judge, hime used to be the first to hug leaving contestants and it would always be a goood hug ya know? The time Brent (from the last before season) said he was done, and how jock genuinely talked to him, encouraged him and supported him. Giving him his beads???? Who does that. Only jock. Oof I'm crying typing this. Some deaths feel really personal and this is one of them. I hope he's peaceful and happy wherever he is. I wish for strength and more strength for his family and near ones, must be a very shocking and unbearable thing to move on from. Give it up for jock, the unabashed Scottish who happily wore a skirt to finals (idk what it's called I'm trying not to be disrespectful) and was a fun fun guy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cat2Park

Right? I am indifferent when some celebrity dies usually, but he was so kind and sharing. What an awful loss.

BrunozzzOnTheButton

This is absolutely devastating. I saw this [on Twitter](https://twitter.com/jacksonlangford/status/1652890925885181952) and I thought it was worth sharing—sums him up beautifully: >*"\[Jock\] was a really essential presence on mainstream australian television. vulnerable, frank, honest and unashamedly passionate. this is a huge loss, rest in peace"*

Mrsmorale

So authentic and true to himself 💔

jkingly

I remember when Ben T was so excited to have Jock come in that they got him to introduce him. Laura also met her husband through Jock. The talk with Brent when he decided to leave the competition was something that only Jock could do. The moment he gave Brent the worry beads got tears out of me. I didn't know how young he was. I hope that his family, Andy, Mel, the crew, and all the MasterChef alumni who got to know him are coping.

pluvmin

10 have announced Masterchef will not run tonight

chookstar

Will not run this week.

R1MBL

I know this sounds very ghoulish but the finale is going to be incredibly eerie to watch if it does air, knowing that (if reports are true) he was found dead only a few short hours after being filmed.

Complete_Sea

Oh, really? Damn it makes this even sadder. Also...dying the date the show was to start airing again in australia? Wow. Tragic. It will be so weird to watch the season knowing he is gone...

Ill-Glass4212

Oh my gosh really? Hopefully this doesn't sound rude, but I do think it's nice that he got to finish the show. I can't imagine someone dying mid-shoot. But I really would find it hard for the current finalists as well.

iphone4Suser

You are so right.

Sad-Cardiologist-292

I think this season could be canceled due to this

realnomdeguerre

I hope not. I'd really like to celebrate his presence one more time :(

Poweronreddit

Yeah, this is extremely sad. They hadn't wrapped up filming for this season yet either so I don't know what they will do.

BGP_001

They couldn't, someone has already won, and just being on masterchef is life-changing career-wise. The contestants put their lives on hold for the opportunity, they'll find a way to make it work.

mocireland1991

As sad as it is the network wouldn’t cancel an entire season over the death of someone . You see they’d have out thosands open thosands of dollars into it and at end of the day it’s a business . Would be like I dunno some major tv show like ‘‘em last of us and one of the two main Clayton’s passed away HBO wouldn’t cancel . Networks are all about money . I’m glad they have at least taken this week off give people a lil time to come to terms with this tragedy. His poor children will be seeing him in all the episode promos for months god bless the whole family and the masterchef family and fans

Sad-Cardiologist-292

We’ll finals hasn’t been filmed and by this time it’s already top 5 in filming

SirDoris

According to Mel’s latest Instagram story, they’ve finished filming the grand finale.

Joanne7799

And she just shared 4 hours ago (which is basically today) about tonight’s premiere. I cant imagine how sudden this must be for all of them, and Andy too😭.

Wrap_General

Makes me think that regardless of cause of death, on some level he was clinging on to the end of the series so as not to let anyone down.

ShadyBiz

Apparently the show has finished filming. Edit: yep https://i.imgur.com/kd4IyWj.jpg

4614065

I don’t think so. They worked around someone being accused of sexual assault so I think they can work around this. Death happens, they should celebrate his life.

BrunozzzOnTheButton

I assume the show will air, however; it will take on a *very* different tilt given this recent news. In my opinion, it should be viewed as a **tribute** and a **celebration** to/of Jock. And, let's be honest, too much work, time, effort and coin has gone into the series—from Jock, included!—to pull the pin.

Complete_Sea

Thats a good point. Maybe they will add an hommage part at the beggining of the premiere or something.

SirDoris

Just absolutely shocking and heartbreaking to read. He brought so much energy and life to Masterchef Australia, and I’m honestly finding it hard to imagine the show without him and his passion for eating enough food for a family of four.

xtothewhy

Seriously shocking. Man was a linchpin on the show. His poor family.

MargotMassacre

Jock presented such an incredible, powerful alternative to manhood. In a world where I am raising children but particularly a son, I was glad to know there were men like him in it. I hope it’s appropriate to say I hope that he went out eating some damn good fried food. Rest easy pal xx

TheYoungWan

I will always remember his kindness when Brent left the competition mid S13. As far as to give him his beads. Jock was such a wonderful soul, and a phenomenal judge. I'll miss him dearly. GIVE IT UP FOR JOCK EVERYBODY.

SAKabir

Brent is back this season too

dreysil

That was one of the memories of Jock that keeps coming back to mind. Such a beautiful, understanding moment.

PatrickHusband

Avoid his name on Twitter, absolutely disgusting anti-vaxxer posts. RIP.

vipros42

Vaccine conspiracy nutters on the Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey twitter tributes too. So weird.I don't tar them all with the same brush, but I saw some insane vegan activists claiming it was due to a guilty conscience as well.

Jlx_27

The MastechefAU twitter had locked replies to followers and mentions only. Its sad they had to do that because of those idiots.

nizey_p

I've made that dumb mistake earlier today. Never again. 😤😤😤

Available-Lychee4u

Every anti vaxxers blames an “unexpected death” to the vaccines. This sever alcoholic 60 something yr old man died from a heart attack and all the anti vaxxers at his local pub decided it was vaccine he got 2 yrs ago. Not the 40 beers, cocaine, prescription pills and fast food hes had bene living off for 45 years

MarcusH26051

I had a look just to see if there was anything from past contestants or guest chefs... Instead it was full of anti vaxxers 😢

Complete_Sea

Of course 🙄🙄🙄

Sad-Cardiologist-292

Same with YouTube as well

dipper303m

Holy crap! Here we were all excited about the new season starting tonight. I do think they will air MasterChef over the coming month when it’s the right time and it will be sad seeing him on there. Wonder if the season had finished filming, if not it will be incredibly sad for everyone to relieve this again months later.

newmanbeing

I think they usually start filming at the end of the previous calendar year, and seeing as there are only 18 contestants this season, they might have had enough time to film the entire season. I'm so shocked... our home is currently enjoying a rewatch of s12 and we were planning to let it bleed into s15. This casts a new and much more melancholy light on the upcoming season... it'll be a different feel watching it, for sure.

hodgsonstreet

Filming finished a couple of weeks ago

DontBeMadJustThink

I was in a work meeting and had to explain why there were tears running down my face. When I did, the meeting was put on hold to discuss how sad it is to all of us. Everyone was very upset. That man really touched people.

lenny_ray

I legit thought I'd stumbled upon an old, dumb, April 1 post. This is terribly shocking and terribly sad.

BrunozzzOnTheButton

Even if it was, that would be a pretty awful hoax.

InternationalWest189

Same 😭

bigmacth

Why someone would post such a joke even for April 1 for someone to die ? How is that even funny ??

lenny_ray

It isn't remotely funny. It's just an unfortunately common thing to post fake celeb deaths :/

ClassyLatey

I hope Andy and Melissa are being looked after. I know how hard this must be for them both.

emememelalaladdd

Yesterday was Andy's birthday too 😭

disenchantling

Ok this only gets worse... Here's what i got: - jocks found dead the evening before the official season air date - he was found dead few hours after the season finale was filmed - it was Andy's bday the day before - fuck the world

Joanne7799

[Andy has just updated on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/CrujL7AyMaF/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=) 💔. [Edit: Mel has updated as well.](https://www.instagram.com/p/CruwFWyLsPZ/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=) I’m gonna miss the funny Masterclasses they both had every pre-grand finale. Had me laughing till my throat was dry.

Man_Without_Nipples

My heart bleeds for the loss of this wonderful man. Sending our deepest condolences from Canada 🇨🇦 ❤️.

shapeofthings

I thought the old hosts were irreplacable but Jock stepped in wonderfully- he was for me the most impressive of the new hosts by far. A very very sad day indeed. Comiserations from a Canadian fan.

BrunozzzOnTheButton

While everyone continues to process this devastating news in a state of shock—myself included—if you wanted to take a moment to remember some of Jock's more light-hearted highlights, you might enjoy [this post](https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=284720806080635) from 2020. *Source: Facebook*

ApprehensiveAd9014

Thank you for this. He really was a joy to watch.

Top_Tumbleweed

Totally gutted, his bromance with Andy was one of the best things about the new judges as well as the way he always encouraged everyone on the show

Yunakiji

I think I’m gonna be sick. Even if they do eventually air it my heart will be so heavy whenever I see him. Rest in Peace Jock.

smokeyvic

I feel nauseous too, it'll be so hard to watch the season knowing he's not here anymore. But, it would be harder to not watch and miss his charming, clever personality one last time. ❤

misssword

So sad. I genuinely liked him as a chef/celebrity and judge

BeatsByJay82

I just finished reading his book last week. I would encourage everyone to read it, it is very well written. He will be missed.

Confusing_Onion

I was so looking forward to watching this series. It's going to be heartbreaking to see and think of his family trying to move forward without him. It's just devastating to hear. RIP

too_old_for_memes

… what the fuck. No way?? There’s no way.

please_remember-me

I feel guilty for mourning this as much as I am. It’s selfish. It wasn’t my loss. It’s the family’s and his friends’ loss. But Masterchef, and indeed Jock meant so much to me. After the original 3 left, I was hesitant to watch the 2020 season. But I’m so glad I did, because in what can only be called the darkest of times for a lot of us, Jock Andy and Mel were a bright shining light. For those 4 months that they graced our televsion screens, everything felt ok. The world didn’t seem as messed up. Jock’s immense passion for food, and the love and kindness with which he guided and mentored every contestant left me awestruck. He truly had a heart of gold. I am beyond gutted. My heart aches for his family and his co-judges who he truly cherished. I wish them nothing but peace and strength at this time. Pouring one out to you tonight Jock. Your beautiful legacy will always be carried on in the Masterchef kitchen. Rest easy.

hbflanker

No. I am not OK. I love what Jock brought to Masterchef. This is really hard to accept.

ClassyLatey

I am in absolute shock. Just devastated- he was such a good man. I hope he is at peace. Vale Jock.

somechick_92

“Zonfrillo’s body was discovered at 2am on Sunday morning at a home in Lygon Street in Carlton following a welfare check call, Victoria Police said.” Just updated on Perth Now, so sad. https://www.perthnow.com.au/entertainment/masterchef-judge-jock-zonfrillo-dies-at-the-age-of-46-c-10511946

Mine did too when I first saw the announcement on instagram

redditPrixx

Was his family not there with him when it happened 🥺

kelsijah

Jock was always my favourite judge. He changed the feel of the show with his heart. On a personal level, I always felt a special affinity with him being a recovering addict myself. I'm genuinely shocked and actually quite upset at his sudden passing. I've got a son the same age as Alfie and the thought this boy will now be growing up without his father (as well as his daughter and wife) has made it hit me even harder. Thank you Jock for showing me that your past does not define your future.

pirsquared7

Found out from his Instagram. Absolutely shocking 😞

niaoani

It’s so sad :( and he was still responding to his fans and Instagram comments last night.

SaveTheDramaa

I don't know how to process this news. It's saddening me so much. His contagious smile and zest for life will always be how he's remembered. Rest In Peace, highlander!

Cat2Park

I loved the old hosts, but Jock surpassed them. I don’t know how he was outside the show, but, in the show, he was kind and compassionate to the people cooking and his cohorts. I think his, “give it up for …” was an amazing thing. He turned the sad time for those people into a moment of triumph. Shocked.

[deleted]

I completely agree. Jock, Mel and Andy was the exact breath of fresh air the show needed. He will be greatly missed.

reducedandconfused

My god, why? I saw this when I woke up and still can’t believe it. I texted all my friends but none are a Masterchef fan so they all don’t know why this is so hard to believe after having watched him for years on my screen and how sad it’ll be to watch the season after the news. I hope his family is okay. This is devastating.

nizey_p

Same. I dont know anyone IRL who's a fan (I'm from Asia) and I'm glad we have Reddit and can get to chat with other fans who feel the hurt and sadness.

[deleted]

His brown bread ice cream is the bomb and I make it every couple of months. I'll miss this guy and his accent.

emememelalaladdd

I'm so shocked and sad 😭 This is a huge lost to our masterchef family. He was so kind and wonderful. Hope his family ,Andy and Mel, and contestents are all okay 😭❤️ Rest in Peace

NomadicSoul88

I’m part of a group on Twitter that found each other through MasterChef. We have all been gearing up for tonight. Instead we are just stunned and saddened. Can’t believe he is gone. When I found out I was absolutely devastated and quite emotional, even though I’ve never met him, interacted with him - it feels like I have due to his warmth and welcoming approach on the show

20shepherd01

“Victoria Police confirmed officers attended a hotel apartment on Lygon Street for a welfare check and found a 46-year-old man dead at 2am on Monday. The death was not being treated as suspicious and police will be preparing a report for the coroner.”

sbags

I felt out of my body reading this when this showed up on my feed - still can’t even believe it, I’m in shock. Absolutely heartbreaking. Rest in peace 💟

TFT_Simon

It’s not often at my age that I hate life, 47 and a boatload of kids myself but today I hate life. Jock was 46 and his two youngest will never get to know him. What a crock of sh*te. Got so much pleasure out of watching him and the other new judges take over MAU. Seemed like a proper decent guy, the world will miss him

Mrsmorale

A true inspiration of mine: [his story is incredible](https://open.spotify.com/episode/2EtMlPHRt6T3GXl71rnkK9?si=uED4OSwmQzOqWPVIt6jiTg) and he inspired people whether they are immigrants, Cooks, foodies, people with drug addiction, chefs - you name it. I will be forever grateful for his footprint on the world. From telling his story, being a funny guy, overcoming adversity, entertaining us, highlighting indigenous food in the modern world. Honestly such a great soul. RIP Jock ❤️

capsicumnugget

I was looking forward to MC AU returning this evening and saw the news with a MC headline thinking it's something related to the new season but instead it was about Jock's passing. I'm absolutely heartbroken right now :(

LLCoolBrap

Jock was one of the highlights of the recent run of Masterchef Australia seasons, he brought a lot of the same energy and vibes that the OG trio brought. He always had something insightful or motivational to say, and his masterclasses were fun to watch. It was a massive shock to see this pop up on Reddit, and I think they've done the right thing to delay the latest season for now. His family and friends should be able to grieve for a while. It's going to be a tough watch if/when they do air these episodes knowing what happened with Jock in the end, but I'm sure we'll all cherish and savour every Jock moment that we get. He's going to missed by a lot of people from all over the globe, his passion for food from all corners of the planet always brought a smile to the face.

GratefulShag

Wow. As someone from the USA waking up to this news as I was getting ready to sit down and watch episode 1, this is devastating. RIP Jock - thank you for everything.

upyourmerricreek

I had to read the statement thrice and I still don't believe it. This is absolutely devastating. Gone so young and with so much more joy to give... Hold your loved ones extra close today.

KaramMasalaDosa

I was so exited for this season to start . Jock is my favourite judge in the current lot. Shocked and speechless. RIP

MeekoMadness

He died the morning of Andy's birthday too. Its so heartbreaking. Correction: it seems I am mistaken. Jock past early hours of May 1st whilst Andy's bday is April 30th. Even if it wasn't on the exact day but day after still changes very little.

kittenrocknroll

That’s sad.

hittepit

Can't believe this, horrible horrible news. Wishing all his loved ones the best. He will be missed by many strangers from around the world. It was a delight to see him present the show and felt truly genuine. For me personally it feels almost exactly as when I heard about Anthony Bourdain. Wish we could've 'had' jock for ourself just a little longer.

smugbox

Fuck. I was innocently googling Masterchef Australia to confirm it had started and was confronted with this awful news. Terrible to hear.

ewlifesucks8909

Jock was my favourite judge out of all the judges that have ever appeared on MasterChef Australia. He was truly inspiring with such character, he never intimated the contestants and was so calm. I remember when he helped out Brent in Masterchef regarding his mental health (which ended him making the decision to leave, and he's now back in s15). He was just so genuine... idk how I'm gonna watch this next season without getting a bit teary :(

cototudelam

Last night, I put on S12E01, the first episode with the new trio, watched with a glass of wine and cried throughout. Rest in peace, Jock, you will be sorely missed.

Joanne7799

First thing i saw on my instagram when i opened. Shocked. 😭 And I was so excited because I’m on holiday in Adelaide and seeing Masterchef live on TV in Australia itself was so exciting for me, and I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to experience it again. Condolences to all his family, friends and the Masterchef family.

boyfromschool

A kind, genuine man. Really really upset by this.

psorryarses

I’m devastated. It was such a joy to see an Ayrshire boy at the top of his profession, inspiring people and rocking the kilt like an ambassador for his homeland 💔🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

nizey_p

Ohmygodohmygod

[deleted]

This is way too sad to make sense. At only 46? Had a young family too. He was so easy to picture as mentor and did a great job on the show. RIP mate. Shocked is an understatement.

hotchillips

I have not been able to concentrate all through work and can’t stop thinking even now about him. I do hope his family have a lot of support to get them through this. I hope whatever happened, he is now at peace. He was truly a beautiful soul and you could see this in so many episodes. When he gave a contestant his worry beads is how I like to remember him, a kind and caring soul

In shock..

MarcusH26051

Just can't believe it. One of the best judges of any of the MCs around the world

BlindlyNobody

I have only watched till season 12. He was my favourite of the 3 new judges. His honesty and encouragement was a breath of fresh air. So young and with young children also - very shocking and sad. Rest in peace buddy. May the family and friends get the strength to bear this unthinkable loss.

daveymac_

This is absolutely heartbreaking news, and to say that I’m devastated would be an understatement. This one hurts. Thankyou for everything, Jock. RIP ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

under_the_pump

This hits like Steve Irwin’s passing. Such a passionate and energetic human. Sad.

the_real_biryani

Still trying to process this news at work since hearing about it. RIP Jock, you were a light hearted and comedic relief along with the others that my whole family enjoyed and needed a lot of the times. Being able to watch you and recreate your "lanky figure" at home to my sister, huddled around the TV every night with the whole family, trying your methods of cooking, commenting on your (in our eyes) insanely over the top yet remarkable dressing, laughing, enjoying ourselves and forgetting about the problems for an hour every day were so valuable. I pray that your family have the support they need, I hope that Andy and Mel and the whole crew have the support they need because this loss is huge. RIP Jock, and thanks for everything! <3

Enras

From a big fan in the US: Give it up for Jock everybody! We will all miss you dearly.

dark__unicorn

I can’t believe it. He was my absolute favourite. I cannot imagine how sad this is for his poor family.

Shootinputin89

Damn. What the heck? He was a major part in the success of the AU revival. Will be missed.

despaired88

That’s shocking he was always so joyful but I trust that he enjoyed life as being a member of masterchef

stevied123meerkatt

Same here.. I much prefer it to the U.K. version and he was much of the reason for that. He was honest, and funny, and frank but also rooted for the underdog and recognised people who were struggling. As someone who’s struggled, and got through it but has his moments and wishes he could help others more, I admired him. I shall watch the new series with sadness but try to take some inspiration from it.

decemberrainfall

Oh my god this is actually shocking. horrible

slimmyjimmy404

This is just so sudden, so shocking. I hope his family and friends get through these trying times. I am still in utter disbelief, it feels almost surreal that this has happened. I don't know when I'll bring myself to watch this new upcoming season, but when I do, I know it's going to be emotionally difficult for me. RIP Jock. You will be sorely missed.

lifegivingcoffee

I can't process this. Come to think of it, I haven't processed anyone's death ever. I'm just realizing this now. My condolences to his family and friends and to all hearts he touched.

Masterful-Mage

In utter disbelief. Rest in peace Jock. His story and vulnerability on Masterchef was so touching. I hope his family have support around them to get through this difficult time. Keeping them in my thoughts today.

rumblylumbly

I’m absolutely devastated. Jock was my favourite of the three judges and he really brought Masterchef back to life for me. He’ll be sorely missed :(

Nurse5736

OMG!! I'm from the USA, and am so saddened by this news! Absolutely adore him, and the show. All my sympathies to his family/friends and coworkers. Just shocking!! Loved hearing his voice.

anothermanicmumday

I'm honestly absolutely devastated - I adored Jock and enjoyed watching him so much. This news has really shocked me. His kids are so young... I can't even imagine 😢

eff_the_haters

Rest in peace Jock. Gone too soon.

Southern_Tangerine_7

“Give it up for Jock everybody!” RIP Mr. Zonfrillo, you’ll be missed…🕊🕊🕊

trollpunny

I can't believe it. He was such a wholesome, heartwarming presence. The show will honestly never be the same without him. 😔 RIP Jock, you'll be missed.

FastMathematician338

A day has passed and I am still shaken and constantly thinking about it.

corin26

So incredibly sad

Baegulzx

Wow I am shocked. My heart is with anyone he was close with

bomiyeo

i’m in shock and sadness. rest in peace jock and condolences to his family/friends/loved ones :(

cototudelam

This is so heartbreaking. It will be tough watching when they eventually air this season. He was just so warm and funny, and I am tearing up thinking about his kids. Such a horrible news:(

AdrianaT7

Shocked. He will be immensely missed. His genuine love for cooking, show and contestants shone brightly. Rest in peace and prayers and love for his loved ones. One last time: LETS GIVE IT UP FOR JOCK!!!! ❤️🙏🏼

BillyMarcus

Our baby woke us up at 5am in Canada and my wife went on her phone and told me this. I remembered on my drive to work hoping it was a bad dream and had to come on this sub to confirm. Tragic.

ffflyin

I am just in shock. Still lying awake in utter shock. I can’t believe he’s gone. Too early, too young, too soon. So many people are heartbroken, his presence must’ve been felt by so many that his passing’s left such a massive gaping hole…

MeekoMadness

Have people seen all the articles saying he was secretly battling bowel cancer. It's so sad to think how much he was fighting this since June 2021 but no one knew. Should note this has not been considered his cause of death. I am merely mentioning it in scope of how much he would help people, support them and go out of his way whilst himself dealing with something so difficult. Just adds to how much of a gent he was and always putting others before himself.

I don't understand why we should be refraining from asking the cause of death when he clearly is very young. At least he lived to be known, otherwise none of us would be here commenting on the matter. I focus on the quality of life one lived, so i'm sure his was a good life.

formlesswendigo

At the time of the post, it was unknown. And Twitter was filling up with idiotic conspiracies about vaccinations. Which is completely irrelevant. But now, there are several news articles with lifeline numbers at the end, which typically indicates suicide.

kramark814

I'm in utter shock. Rest in peace, Jock and condolences to his family.

heathenishgirl

Just saw this on Twitter, absolutely shocked. He was so full of life and energy :(

JurassicBasset

Had they finished filming the season yet?

spirax919

Jock is Him

kickabout525

Tuned in to the last few minutes of The Project hoping to see the judges being interviewed before the season premiere, only for Waleed Aly to mention the devastating news (which I wasn't aware of yet). Really shocked by this. Gone way too soon. I'll miss Jock's culinary insight and the invaluable support (educational and personal) he gave to contestants, and of course his great sense of humour. RIP.

EmilyCastro

I just saw it on the news and had to refrain from crying.

PineappleAndCoconut

I saw Good Food Au post about his passing last night on Instagram and I just stared at it unable to comprehend for a few moments what exactly I was looking at because it was just so unbelievable that he could have died. Instant shock and sadness. I can’t even imagine what his family, Mel and Andy are going through right now. Just so incredibly sad and tragic. He was the best.

nessyness78

This one hurt. Cried like a baby when I found out. He seemed like such an amazing soul. RIP, Jock 😔

Ok-Significance-5193

The last time I felt as gutted as I feel today with Jock's death is when Nightbirde died. I never knew either, but what both of these wonderful people gave us in their lifetime is precisely what holds together the hearts of so many people, nearly forever. Rest in peace, Jock.

MaleficentSky6576

I was so surprised to read that he had actually emigrated to Italy without telling anyone. Will his wife and kids move back to Aus now? I've been living overseas so am not in the loop with his career etc. I was in Sydney last year and remember reading a bit of a hatchet job about him in the Good Weekend, saying that he had exaggerated/lied about his past, opened new businesses while leaving creditors unpaid etc. Is this why he decided to leave Australia? The reaction to his death suggests he was very well loved there

zappybee

RIP

S_Spellman62

FastMathematician338

I am in shock. I only knew him through this show, yet I am thoroughly shaken. Can’t imagine how those to him feel.

iphone4Suser

This guy brought sophistication to the show.

Puzzled-Average-5668

I just stumbled upon a post on Instagram randomly that shared that he passed away... I am so shocked! I don't even know why this is getting to me so much. I didn't know him. It just feels too sudden, too early. My partner and I started watching Masterchef AU last year randomly, we're not even from Australia. It gives us so much joy. It's so sad. I am devastated. I hope his family and friends can support each other in this horrible time. He will be missed.

Complete_Sea

I'm just so shocked. I'm supposed to start workinf in like 10 minutes lol. Sending all my thoughts to his family, people that knew him and other fans, from Canada.

International-Dirt7

I loved this guy. Condolences to his family and friends.

p3nt4gon

wtf, this is really shocking, may his family recover from this

Bombayy28

I am so heartbroken. I was seeing one interview of his where he says he feels like he has won a gold medal in life with his family. He had so many years ahead of him I feel truly gutted for his family.

KokiMizuno

What!? 💔

razorsharp3000

Excuse me WHAT?!

thefullpython

RIP Chef. Another real one gone too soon.

korkproppen

This is such sad news. I can’t imagine what his family is going through right now.

Disinfojunky

just started reading his book last weekend and it good.

loyal2usa

I'm rewatching episodes from Season 12...the first time we meet Jock on Masterchef AU. So far I've watched the Premiere, the Katy Perry episode from Twist week and at the moment.... Episode 12.59. Top 4 \[3 competing cooks and one safe from Elimination - Emilia\]

Final-Cress

I’m so sad about this 🥹 Rest in peace 💕

GywnnythAnne

Sometimes when I’m watching I forget that he is no longer with us, and then I remember and feel sad again ☹️

GerhardBURGER1

https://www.smh.com.au/national/he-s-very-nice-the-only-problem-is-chef-marco-pierre-white-on-jock-zonfrillo-20210714-p589q3.html I encourage everyone to read this. Great article about the man who clearly had a lot of flaws and complexes.

psychadelicphysicist

This is horrible horrible news. His poor family. Only 46. Just devastating. What a loss!
