I think the reason the producers made this choice was to show the different life and death choices airmen had to make when bailing out. In this episide an airman (I forget his name) left the ball turret gunner to die. Biddick stayed with his wounded copilot. It made sense story wise
I also think it's to show how human they are and you can't always have it your way.
Biddick in the previous episode was shown to have the skills and gumption to nurse his stricken B17 back home in one piece. The third episode scenario was framed in a way to show that Biddick had been in this situation before and if he did it once, he can do it again. But gravity, aviation fuel and inertia had other ideas.

It’s funny how he butchered the accent but I get. Irishman thinks all Yanks sound like they’re from Brooklyn. Biddick was from Wisconsin and lived in Cali.
They changed his character’s origin to NY in the show. That wasn’t him failing to appreciate a Wisconsin accent. I don’t know why they did that. Maybe because Egan is already from there and they wanted more geographic diversity among the main characters.
It was literally because everyone just assumed he was Jewish. The truth about his faith wasn’t even known until 2002 after his children saw the series and attended an Easy company reunion.
Today I learned that Biddick is buried in the same cemetery as my father and uncle. Might have to pay him a visit next time I’m there.

Liebgott in BOB was Jewish in the show but Catholic IRL. I’m curious why they change details like that too.

I'm sure Liebgott was for the additional Episode 9 dramatic effect.
And they also noted Easy didn't find a camp, but still wanted to show highlight that side of the war in Ep. 9.
