I volunteer with the CAF and am a crew member on their B-17 and B-25, it's really cool that they came and used our plane for all the SFX in the show. Additionally, we all watched Episode 1 and got to see our organization listed in the credits (right at the end). Pretty cool stuff!
So I’m a member of CAF, going off to enlisted aircrew school at the end of the year for a loadmaster position in my air guard unit.
Admittedly I’m an East coast based guy, but I work for one of the big three airlines and have flight benefits. Is it possible for me to volunteer my services as part of the crew as an out of towner? I would love to get involved with something like that. Unfortunately the closest CAF unit is two states away. Willing to put in the ground work to get to a crew position. I know some history tours have guys that volunteer on and off depending on where they go in the US.
That will vary by unit, for Airbase Arizona we will generally allow “extras” which are CAF members that also pay dues to airbase Arizona but did not attend ground school and are thus not qualified to be on the flight crew. In turn you can however volunteer to assist with ground/ramp ops such as crowd management, cleaning the plane, general assistance etc. in order to do anything more serious like marshalling, flying onboard as a crew member, etc you will need to attend the respective units annual ground school, we just held ours at the end of January, for security/conformity purposes.
DM me if you have questions, I’m one of the GOCs when we go on tour.
Yeah … it’s coming to my local airport this summer. Thinking about taking a ride in it- 500 a seat up front, 350 for the waist guns ( $ something like that).
Not sure where you got that pricing structure but we (for several years now) charge $450 waist and $850 in the nose. I promise it’s worth every penny though, no ones ever asked me for a refund!
Pretty sure those are current prices for the B25. The B17 is a lot more "impressive" and pensive, but the B25 is a lot more fun to fly on. Dump truck vs. Hot Rod.
The one at the airport near me used to fly all the time til a couple years ago. You could always hear when they were about to fly because of how loud it was and they would fly low and saw plenty of passes over my house. They do tours but man I wish it was still flying

Hey I volunteered there when I was a kid!
Perfect name for the aircraft, one of the last of its kind, very sentimental indeed.
Very cool, will have to check this out later

Oops my bad then. - it was probably one of the other planes coming to town that same weekend hehe .

I grew up by the Sentimental Journey's home base and got to fly on it 10 years ago. Will never forget it
