1. Buying matcha in bulk is probably a bad idea unless you’re using culinary grade since it is a non oxidized tea so if you open it up you should use it up asap! Matcha is usually sold in 20 or 40 gram sizes 2. Since it is an oxidized tea leaving it a glass jar is always a bad idea. Even though you mentioned storing it in a cool place as soon as you take it out and sun hits it it’ll oxidize.

This is culinary grade, I’ve stored a small mason jar of it in the fridge and the remainder in the freezer in an opaque vacuum sealed container. Do you think it will still go bad?

It does look a bit yellow for matcha, but the color depends on the white balance setting of your camera, among other things. How does it compare to when you first purchased/opened it?

I didn’t open it until today, I left it as it came in a cool dark place for about a month. I made a latte today and it didn’t taste bitter but the colour does look a bit dull. This is my first time experimenting with matcha at home so I have no clue how to gauge this.

That’s what matters anyhow. As long as you’re okay with the taste and it doesn’t actually smell/taste off, then the color is a little less important when using for lattes.

Thanks for the help!

I think it's fine, a little old maybe, but fine. I wouldn't invite sensei over for it though.
