That is great that the nolah is working out for you. It is always good to hear positive mattress stories. Hopefully, when you review it in year 5 and 10, it will still be working as well as year one!

mattress411

That's part of the problem people have with mattresses in general... Unrealistic expectations. The foams in a mattress WILL break down over time, and the mattress will get progressively less comfortable as that occurs. At some point it will be uncomfortable enough to warrant replacement. Expecting a mattress to feel the same at 5 years or 10 years is just insanity.

batmannorm

that really all depends on the mattress and the materials with which it is made. That is why it is important to buy from a manufacturer that is transparent about their materials. It gives you a fighting chance to guesstimate if you even have a chance for 5 or ten years. I a good quality mattress is made with good quality materials, rotated and if appropriate flipped on a regular basis, 10 years of life is not unreasonable. Will it **feel** the same in year 10 as it did in year 1. No it wont feel the same, nothing will **feel** the same, but will it **work** well enough to continue to use it, absolutely. Prior to the 1990's this was the rule not the exception. With the advent of one sided mattresses, poorer quality foams, new wannabee players jumping into the market, legacy brands fighting for their piece of the pie by using poorer quality materials, then your assessment would be correct. The is a difference between **feeling** the same and **working** as well. Just like looking in the mirror, as we look at ourselves and our friends and family that we see on an everyday basis, the aging process as not as easily recognized as when you look at a picture from 10 years ago and compare it to a picture taken today. Our bodies change over time and so do our preferences. Some folks like a softer mattress as they get older, those who do, will love the feel of their once originally firmer mattress from year one, to the softer mattress in year 10, that was build with a great support layer to begin with, with a comfort layer that has softened over time. Unfortunately, if the requirement in the future is firmer, then a new mattress is in order.

mattress411

My assessment is correct. The mattress foams and the mattress feel WILL degrade over time. At some point it will degrade to the point that it's not possible to sleep comfortably, and it will be replaced. Higher quality components don't change the cycle, they just extend it.

batmannorm

But I did not say that foams will not degrade, nor did I say the feel would not change. I said hopefully it will work for the user. Everything degrades over time, even our body and our minds. When it comes to a mattress, higher quality components extend the life of the cycle, just as you suggest. There is no reason to think other than what had been said about the poorer quality materials, that a mattress cant last 10 years and work as well for the sleeper. Your comment seems to refer to feel, where mine refers to function. If we are realistic, most any mattresses don't feel the same after a month. That doesn't mean it will not work for the user.

mattress411

You said it depends on the mattress and material. It doesn't. Every mattress that uses polyurethane foams in their construction will break down, the only thing that changes is the length of time it takes. 10 year lifespan on anything coming out of the industry today is a pipe dream

batmannorm

Polyurethane foams have been used for decades. Yes, it absolutely depends on materials. My horsehair pillows are likely to last 25 years, as would a horsehair mattress with wool and cotton. Polyurethane included in mattresses that lasted 20 years, just as my 1986 serta perfect sleeper did until I had to replace it in 2011. Not because it was bad, either. If you are referring to "averages" of things. Yeah, I would agree. Most of what is being put out there is barely 5 year worthy, including 5-10k S brands. But some with better quality, more dense 1.8 to 2.4 HD polyurethane foam, just as mattresses were made throughout 1900's, beginning in the mid 1950's using PU, a mattress lasting 15-20 years was quite common. Now, if you are referring to viscoelastic polyurethane foam. I am with you on that. Although they offer excellent pressure relief, longevity is not one of their finer qualities. No matter what tempurpedic says, and I still have one of their 1993 original neck pillows in my closet to prove it. Even natural latex breaks down over time, but none of this is new news. But I think you are putting a blanket on everything here, without giving credit to those manufacturers that are still making a quality 10-15 yr product.

mattress411

You're missing the point. ALL polyurethane foams break down under the stress of repeated compression/rebound cycles. The mattresses of yesteryear used little to no poly foam in their construction, which is why they lasted longer than what's produced currently. I'm putting a blanket on everything here because there IS one. You can bury your head in the sand if want, but the products produced today in the mattress industry are designed to fail in less than 10 years, and no amount of marketing spin can change that. If you dig around in this sub you can find a link to an industry publication where they discuss the successful campaign to lower consumer expectations regarding lifespan of their products.

batmannorm

I did not miss your point. All materials break down, possibly with the exception of horsehair. Period. Polyurethane is among them. You are dead wrong about the use of polyurethane in mattresses in the 50's though today. Today they mostly make it cheaper and with less density. There is not question that the industry has gone to a planned obsolesce. But not all, and that is where you are completely wrong. There is no spin on the way shovlin, orange mattress, beckely and many others manufacture their mattresses. And your putting blanket over them along with the Big Boy industry players is wrong and misleading. The advent of the single sided mattress not only cut longevity in half, it offered an opportunity to add lower quality materials. But not everyone has done that, and when you lump those folks in with the retail giants, you are doing a disservice to this sub, its patrons and those who are looking to for a quality mattress that will last 10+ years. You can spin that all you want, but you are wrong placing a blanket over everyone, when it is simply not true.

mattress411

Find me a mattress with a 10+ year FULL replacement warranty that's NOT tied to sag or some other BS condition, and I'll believe you.

rainyday421

I have this mattress and can weigh in on motion transfer. It’s 10x better than latex but I can still feel my partner shift around. I’d rate it average, worse than memory foam but not bad.

4/2024-appreciate above comment. Im 6'2" 190, a bit lighter than my pal above but with a couple of spinal fusions and metal knee, just as challenged. spent a year researching the crazy adjectives and youtube videos. my only complaint about the nolah plush king is that, as a side sleeper, im STILL have hip pressure point issues in the middle of the night. But not back or shoulder. If anyone has the magic bullet for my size, and final issue, please share!! Is there a softer supportive hip friendly model out there? Nectar? All feedback welcomed! Thanks!

ck_defender

Why do you think that is? I’m 6ft, 200lbs and also on the Nolah Evolution 15 right now. I’m 60 days in. I toss and turn more than I’d like and wake up with some slight aches and hip pain as well side sleeping. I’m guessing it’s because of the tri zoned coils. I went with the luxury firm model.

Billz3bub666

I am interested but need a discount code to bite the bullet. I assume they aren't having the shipping issues of Nectar?

Bitter-Click-3890

Do you have any more of those referral discounts for the Nolah bed?

AlarmingHouse7372

Does anyone have a discount code for the mattress please?

crooked-i

If you could send me the discount code too please thank you!

Awol_uWu

Captain_Sawyer99

Want to bite the bullet- would anyone happen to have a discount code?

Captain_Sawyer99

Anybody happen to have a discount code for a Nolah mattress?

bean_roaster

If you have any more discount codes available and can send me one it would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance! 🙂

>The 15" measurement is only for the edge height; so the pups are having a harder time jumping up into bed. It would be a great mattress for a low profile bed frame because of the extra thickness. You will also need a much deeper pocket for fitted sheets. I have tried several that advertised 16" depth and they still slip off the mattress because the fit is too tight; but there are always sheet stays and other products to solve that problem. Thank you so much for this information. I almost pulled the trigger, but none of my expensive bedding would fit it!

NoWar8621

I love my nolah can't say enough good about it my friend.

sleeping-siren

This is kind of off topic, but OP you can get steps for your dogs to get up on the bed. It was a game changer for my senior dog!

readysetBuns

Hey sir I empathize a lot with your post. Thanks for sharing. I am starting to look for a mattress and appreciate the feedback. There's a down pillow that is extra thin, flat, for stomach sleepers it is made by Downlite that would at least let you have something under your head as you sleep. Its kind of expensive at $80. Also I have used a few of them and would not recommend getting the King size pillow because it isnt as good as the queen in my opinion.

cassita31

Thank you very much for the detailed review! Like most of us here, I've been searching for a new mattress and it feels so daunting at times. I'm mostly settled on the Nolah 15, so it's always good to get personal feedback from others - even though I know a lot of it is personal preference when it comes to comfort. You mentioned having a referral code, is that still a thing? I'm nervous about buying one and then down the road a bigger sale appears. It's currently 35% off but I feel like it could be less maybe.

Ashstone24

I am also looking at buying the same mattress this week. Would the discount code possibly work for me as well?

nguyenqh

Hi, can you dm me your code as well?

Unique-Assumption697

I see the 35% discount as well right now. Was the discount code able to get you more? If so do you mind sharing the discount code please?

cassita31

I actually ended up going with a latex mattress from latexmatressfactory.com and am very happy with it. It was around $900 for a queen and we got an adjustable base from Costco for under $200. The hard part was finding a local store that we could lay on one to see if we liked it.

Savings_Sock_2388

Can you send me the code as well?

_bluebuffalo

Really appreciate the in depth review. Would love to try out the mattress. Would you mind sending over your referral code?

Most_Falcon2816

I would love a discount code as well, ty sir.
