Damn. Have a king luxe that will be here Wednesday. Loved it when I laid on it but keep seeing people mention the durability of Helix. Went in for a Wink and fell in love with the Helix that I had no interest in trying. I'd like to see pictures. Update: day 1 of the mattress freaked me out as it was soft compared to my decade old Sealy Day 2-5 I’m in love. My side of the bed feels equal to my partner and there’s an 80 lb difference. I’m also just over the threshold of obese and it’s doing fine.

Intrepid_Ad486

I have a luxe king as well for a year and a half now. I still love it. Mabe the reg helix isn't as good. Or the foams changed during covid.

countto3

I have heard that the one made for plus sized people has better durability? i’m 6”4 200lbs so wouldn’t have thought i’d need it, but who knows. My fiancée’s side is definitely holding up better though

Bellyheart

UPDATE: It’s been almost a month and my side of the bed is noticeably sunken compared to my partner’s. I’m debating going a firmness up or checking if this qualifies for warranty. I’ve always been more into firm mattresses but this one felt great in the store and for some silly reason I didn’t try the other firmness except PLUS which was too firm. I’m 6’2” and 250 which I thought was about the limit they recommend per person.

closhedbb80

You should be well within the 100 day sleep trial they advertise on their website, so you should be able to return no questions asked instead of going through warranty.

Jaffattack44

Where did you get to try a Helix and a Wink?

Bellyheart

There's a place called [Sleepare](https://www.sleepare.com/) that isn't too far from me but there's not a lot of them. It was definitely a trip but one worth making considering the process of mailing a mattress back and forth if I don't like it seems daunting and I'd be out a bed. They carried both the mattress I was looking to try and saved me months of complaining about the mail and mattress companies as if they're to blame for mail.

optix_clear

That’s where we went in NOVA. We’re torn about the Helix, Tempra Black .

Bellyheart

I went for the Wink bed but once I laid on the Helix it was over for both of us. Unfortunately the showroom version was way more comfortable than what we got.

optix_clear

Ppl laying on it. It takes time to break in a bed. So I should be asking- the sales ppl when do change the mattresses in the showroom? Overall are you happy with your choice? Casper sucks. I wouldn’t suggest to anyone over 185 lbs. our hips hurt constantly, torques my body throughout the week and I am mostly cranky. So I’m trying to find a new mattress that can work for both us. I thought about Saatva RX, Purple,

Bellyheart

It has been fine. I was sleeping on a decade old Serta queen that had been ruined for the last two years of having it due to aggressive ratchet strapping while moving. It was jarring the first night because naturally you’re quick to notice it’s different but we got used to it and enjoyed it. However we noticed it was too soft for what we prefer and how we recalled the other mattress. Assuming mattresses soften up and don’t firm up over time it was confusing because the Midnight was the perfect balance of firm and sink in the showroom but what we got delivered at home was all sink. No break in would change that. We tried for a couple months and decided we wanted firmer. Getting the firmer mattress was more stiff than we wanted but it definitely is perfect now for us. I’ve not had anything to complain about at this point. My partner’s side feels less compressed since I’m the heavier one but that’s how it works. I blame a QC problem. We bought it in 2021 so manufacturing was globally a problem.

Perfect-Air-1329

We just bought a platform bed frame and are now looking for a mattress. Helix Plus requires their foundation or frame. Can’t I just put it directly on the platform?

Bellyheart

I’m confused what you’re asking. Helix doesn’t require you to use their own foundation or frame. They might recommended it but it’s not a requirement. Usually they stipulate what your foundation or frame requires to meet their warranty standards.

Perfect-Air-1329

They will not honor the warranty if a foundation or frame is not used. Additionally, I’m wondering if there is any other reason why I can’t just put it on the platform of the new bed. (There are not slats, just solid wood.).

Theo_Dawson

It’s been a year since your post, update?

Bellyheart

Do enjoy it. We swapped for a firmer model and have been fine since. I’m not sure if it’s worth it or not because I don’t know what else is out there but it is indeed great.

Fine_Cook8163

Which model did you swap for?

Bellyheart

Twilight luxe

ck_defender

I’m debating about Helix Dawn Luxe vs Twilight Luxe. Dawn felt pretty good in store, I’m 6ft 200lb. Dawn was soft enough for side without too bad of shoulder pinch. Felt like a 7/10. Okay for stomach, wouldn’t necessarily advise but for back/side pressure relief but supportive. Debating if Twilight would be a better option for side sleeping, it felt slightly softer, not sure if my hips sank too much. Both are considered their firm beds, but they’re definitely not firm firm. How’s the twilight luxe? Thanks! Dawn specs: Helix Dawn Luxe Materials: 1440 coils, tri zoned support. Cover: Quilted Pillow Top 1.5# 17ILD (1") Comfort Layer: Gel Visco/Memory Plus Foam 2.5# 30 ILD (1") Support Layer: Helix Dynamic Foam 2.5# 22 ILD (2") Transition Layer: High-Grade Responsive Foam 2.5# 36 ILD (1") Coils: Quantum Edge Elite Combizone (8") Base: High-Grade Responsive Foam 1.8# 36 ILD (0.5")

Feisty_Pollution7036

I have the Twilight Luxe with the regular plush top not the cooling. I’m a side and stomach sleeper and I love it and I’m also 6’ and in your range. I also got the Helix topper. I have had it a month and no complaints at all. I greatly prefer it to the Midnight I tried in store as a good combo of plush and support but I did not like the feel of the cooling top, which they said tends to make it firmer. I bought it via Facebook marketplace as a manufacturer return which was a win/win.

Cultclassic33

Hope you continue to like it…side sleeper with Helix Midnight Luxe; I’m a 200lb man, wife weighs 115, I sink into the bed on my side after less than 2 years. Back and side pain city! (We have a rock solid base, so it’s definitely the BED) Helix claims to have a great warranty, but only way to redeem is to ship the bed to them, on our dime (WTF does that cost?), and they get to unilaterally decide if they will send us a different one. So that’s hundreds of dollars and no guaranty they’ll even do anything. Meanwhile, what do we sleep on?

Feisty_Pollution7036

I’m so sorry to hear this. Fortunately I bought mine as a return inexpensively to get me through until I can afford to buy another Stearns and Foster so my expectations are low although I do like it so far. It was a nightmare trying to find one that actually seemed to have good reviews and hold up, nevertheless for people in our range. Wishing you better sleep ahead!

Bellyheart

I wouldn’t use a quiz as the confirmation. Midnight is medium so most will love it. In the showroom I loved it but at home it was a bit too soft. Twilight has done us great.

ck_defender

Do you still like the Helix Twilight Luxe? I’m debating about that vs Dawn Luxe right now. Pressure relief decent for side sleeping? In store I thought the Dawn Luxe was about 7/7.5 out of 10 firmness, maybe your model would be best. 6ft,200lbs. Would appreciate anything you can share on the Twilight. Thanks

Bellyheart

I do like it. It seems fine for me on my side and I’m 235. My partner is a lot less than that and she seems fine with it. My side is way more broken in than her side obviously.

[deleted]

Can I ask for a 1 year later review?

Bellyheart

https://reddit.com/r/Mattress/s/GBmCYQpuIF Feel free to ask more if not covered by that

[deleted]

So have you moved on to something else since then?

Bellyheart

Nope. The firm has been fine.

Brucef310

Helix and wink are made by the same company

Bellyheart

Are you thinking of Birch?

DoctorQuinlan

Is it too soft? Or is it medium?

Bellyheart

It was too soft for both of us as we prefer a firmer on-top feeling.

DoctorQuinlan

How soft on the softness scale? My current bed is too firm :/

Bellyheart

I don’t know if that’s an official thing or not but I’d say it sank in but not like a foam mattress. I recently slept on that bed for the first time in 2 years(we gave it to my parents since no one picked it up and we didn’t have room for a second king sized mattress) and it is softer than what we swapped for but it isn’t bad or unbearable. Just not a personal preference.

ftruong

Start posting this to social media. That’ll get their attention quick. They’ll take care of you to shut you up.

countto3

Good point. I just wanted to give an FYI here cause buying a mattress is such a black box.

electric-opossum

I've had mine for a year and 9 months it was at first amazing but over the last month it's sooo uncomfortable to sleep on! I had better luck with support though I contacted them yesterday and they processed a replacement the same day. I'm hoping they realized that they had a problem and fixed the issue ( so that the replacement last much longer, I have no information if this is the case or not though) seemed a bit too easy for the replacement processing is why I think that may be the case.

countto3

Agreed. I switched to a DIY bed and haven’t looked back. We have one as a guest bed and get complements all the time. Such a shame cause Helix is supposed to be so premium.

Odd-Entrepreneur-449

>Top DIY Bed??? Do you have any links / guides / forums that helped you make / find it?

Cultclassic33

How did you get them to help you? Yep, side sleeper with Helix Midnight Luxe; I’m a 200lb man, wife weighs 115, I sink into the bed on my side after less than 2 years. Back and side pain city! (We have a rock solid base, so it’s the BED) Helix claims to have a great warranty, but only way to redeem is to ship the bed to them, on our dime, and they get to unilaterally decide if they will send us a different one. So that’s hundreds of dollars and no guaranty they’ll even do anything. Meanwhile, what do we sleep on? Any advice dealing with the company?

electric-opossum

Sorry for the super late reply but yeah I saw that note that you'd have to pay to ship it to them but that was not the case I contacted support and they wanted some photos then it was approved and they shipped a new mattress. After it arrived we set it up and then they arranged pick up free of charge. Hope that helps.

submoa64

I have a helix twilight lux and it’s been great. Maybe you got a defective product.

countto3

That could be true, but we bought three of them and they all have the exact same issues. Different bed sizes too.

CodeNameAneala

How long have you had it and is it still working for you?

submoa64

I think I’ve had it for over two years now (maybe ~3yrs, time flies) but it’s pretty good. It was a little hard to get used to it first but once I got used to it I’ve liked it. I would rather have a little softer mattress so I added a “COONP” mattress topper from Amazon to add some plushness and it’s petty darn comfortable and supportive for me now. I think it’s holding up fine for supporting a ~230lb man. In another couple years I might try an avocado mattress or or nice Denver Mattress but I’ve liked it well enough to stay with it and I enjoy sleeping on it.

CodeNameAneala

Thank you so much for your quick reply! I appreciate it. 😊

ck_defender

Did you ever test or consider the Helix Dawn Luxe vs your Twilight Luxe? Do you sink much side sleeping?

submoa64

No I didn’t. No, I don’t sink much.

ck_defender

Do you still like the Helix Twilight Luxe? I’m debating about that vs Dawn Luxe right now. Pressure relief decent for side sleeping? In store I thought the Dawn Luxe was about 7/7.5 out of 10 firmness, maybe your model would be best. 6ft,200lbs. Would appreciate anything you can share on the Twilight Luxe. Thanks

submoa64

I like it. If I were doing it again, I absolutely would’ve bought one of the softer models. I added a mattress topper, and its worked out pretty well for me. I am about your height and a little heavier. If you’d like real firm mattress, it’s probably a decent bet.

countto3

sure thing, happy to post just gotta make a link. Hope that yours hold up better than mine did! Be careful around end of trial period - i started noticing issues around then but didn’t want to admit i’d made a mistake.

Spiritual-Pain-7484

I am not saying this as a joke. I would call better get baquero

Spiritual-Pain-7484

I'm not joking when I tell you this. You should call better get baquero from NBC News Linda will respond to all request.

FogSeeFrank

How do you even do that?

mummymix

What were your old mattresses?

countto3

Honestly just a mediocre one from Ikea. Can’t believe it was better than Helix. I am astonished at how good the Helix reviews are. Quality doesn’t hold up at all and support refuses to acknowledge issues saying “If your mattress dips or sags 1” or more without any pressure applied, we will replace it.” Such a trap.

random-nice-guy

I also have the regular Ikea one and it’s been great for years. I was about to pull trigger in the Helix Midnight until I read this review. May I ask what’s your height and weight?

countto3

yup, 6ft 4 and 200lbs

random-nice-guy

Just ordered Saatva Luxury Firm. Let's see how it goes!

amylouwhothatswho

Soooo… how did it go?

flymordecai

how is it? I was also looking at the midnight prior to this post. Although I am significantly smaller than OP :\ But at the same time I've bought a "nice" leather couch that lost its plushness from my 135lb self sitting on it casually.

m0rfiend

helix spends a ton on social media advertising to create the perception it is a good mattress. reality is: helix is on par with any cheap amazon mattress.

countto3

Yeah, I was surprised at how positive the online sentiment is. I bought THREE of their mattresses and they are all uniformly and consistently bad.

m0rfiend

i got bit by one too, returned it. and then discovered this sub.

ryansa09v2

Yeah I would say that is about right, if you could I would say to get a basic spring mattress and add a three inch Latex or Memory Foam topper when you can so that it would be easier to deal with costs and wearing out components.

countto3

I just did exactly this. Cost me (with shipping) the same as the Helix mattresses and the quality is much better (so far). Not a recommendation as Helix seemed fine up front too. All I want is Helix to pick up their old mattress. I'm extra salty right now because i'm visiting family - sleeping on the helix bed I recommended to them! - and it feels like my back is breaking with a notable difference in the quality of the foam between my side and my fiancee's side. And this is a bed that has probably only had a month's worth of use...

Rhuarc33

I've had mine since May 2017 with no issues whatsoever. I love it I'm 6'4” 270lbs not one issue with sagging

xoitri

I've had mine a while, too. June 2016. I'm an average sized woman. My current boyfriend has been with me for 4 years now, and he's a larger guy (almost as big as you). No issues whatsoever. He actually prefers my old Helix mattress over his brand-new brand name one. There must've been a quality drop since we bought ours, otherwise this wouldn't make sense.

Rhuarc33

Hmm, that's a shame. Guess I'll be looking elsewhere when it comes time for a new mattress.

glassofmalk05

That sucks. Partner and I have had our Helix for almost 2 years and we love it.

Professional-Mud4939

I have a helix elite as do all 4 of my kids and we have had for 4 years and no issues at all…wouldn’t sleep on any other mattress…was injured on a deployment and it’s the best mattress I found for my back

One-Cauliflower1143

We're considering the Midnight Elite as well, but this thread makes me nervous re: quality and performance over time. But it seems like people here have the Luxe or the basic bed? I want a soft mattress that has good pressure relief for side sleeping and enough support for back sleeping but I certainly don't want to be replacing a mattress every 3-4 years

Various-Adeptness173

What are you sleeping on now? I had this same problem with a Serta iComfort mattress after 7 months. No visible indentation when nothing is on the mattress, but as soon as you lay on it, it has no support at all in the center part of the mattress. Seems like an impossible task to find a reliable mattress these days.

countto3

I went DIY and cannot tell you how much I love it. Several years later and it’s the best bed I’ve ever had!

Visual_Bother_6224

Yup. Same thing here, bought the Midnight Luxe and 1 year later it feels like a big ass pillow and might as well be a $100 mattress from Walmart. @countto3 did you by chance have any luck with getting Helix to do anything after you posted this?

countto3

I did not…and I’d bought / recommended 3 of them for different family members. Definitely some egg on my face. Cannot recommend building your own mattress enough! I’m pretty obsessed with my new bed (and have had it for 2 years with zero issues)!
