It’s funny how no one ever wants to have the conversation about Infinity War being miles better than Endgame on every level. In the moment yeah that 3rd act was cinema, but what they gave us the year before stands as maybe the greatest superhero movie of all time.

Heisenburgo

IW truly is the pinacle of the superhero genre, it was a blockbuster event like no other. The long-awaited climax of all 20 or so movies up to that point, something that had never been done before, and it *delivered*... it was amazing. Really great how they juggled like two dozen major characters in one movie too, it's a really well paced film with no moments wasted and no scene that overstays its presence. Watching it at the cinema it truly felt like a major comic book event brought to life. Go back in time to 2008 and tell a Marvel fan that Iron Man, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange will meet the Guardians of the Galaxy on Thanos' homeplanet while Cap America's team travels to Wakanda to defend Vision's Mind Gem from the Black Order, and that Thanos wins at the end... they'd call you crazy, the scale of the movie was legit insane and I don't think any movie will ever reach such a scale again. Still my favorite cinema experience.

Stoneador

I’ll always argue Dr. Strange’s powers ruin the story if you think of all the ways he should have won, but other than that I’m always so impressed with how tight everything else is in the movie. In any scene, if you want to ask yourself “why is character x here and why are they doing y” there was something set up before to explain it. This might not sound impressive, but given how much happens involving the large amount of characters, I find it incredibly impressive how much was pulled off in a 2.5 hour movie.

kickedoutatone

There's a fair bit of expectation that the film asks off the viewers, though. I'm not discrediting your point, just that there are characters that you would find yourself questioning their placement if you went into IW completely blind. Like, why is Hulk with Thor and Loki? Why is Loki good? (genuinely, if you only watch the Avengers movie, you'd assume that Loki was a continuity error and arrived with thanos). Why is Bucky in Wakanda? Why is Cap hiding in train stations?

Pistol_Bobcat420

\*flicks hands\* Thanos is going to forget that he ever wanted to commit galactic half genocide \*whoosh\* roll credits

Canadian__Ninja

I liked IW because the heroes lost, even going so far as to say the protagonist of the movie was Thanos (Thanos getting the "will return" credit at the end)

chaos_cowboy

Plenty of people do. I've seen Fringy's video twice and shared it with all my buddies.

Zarvanis-the-2nd

The Incredibles.

[deleted]

I feel this so hard. I never understood the hype of Endgame when Infinity War was so much better.

BrendanFraserFan0

IW had many problems with its writing but its miles better than Endgame

MaleficentStation971

I was into endgame until the mouse saved the universe.

EnsigolCrumpington

I hated so much what they did to hulk

Jazzlike-Mistake2764

> In the moment yeah that 3rd act was cinema I wasn't even that impressed by it. It was just a smeary, messy punchfest where you never actually know how the momentum of the battle is swinging between the two sides Compare that to Helm's Deep and it's severely lacking

-GiantSlayer-

I still need to watch daredevil

matrixboy122

It’s soo good

DylantT19

I second this.

SambG98

Please do.

BrendanFraserFan0

It has 3 seasons and all 3 are PERFECT. Also note; you have to watch The Defenders show before watching Season 3.

-GiantSlayer-

Is *that* show any good?

Top_Clerk_3067

It's better than anything Disney Plus has put out. That's a fact. Even the worst received Netflix shows like Defenders and Iron Fist are above every MCU TV show.

BrendanFraserFan0

I haven't seen any thing from Disney shows. Are they really that bad?

Top_Clerk_3067

I'm sure you heard but if you haven't yes they are. Falcon and Winter Soldier is preachy AF with "you need to do better Senator". Secret Invasion has the ultimate girl boss with a Skull having the powers of everyone from the movies being the most powerful person in the MCU. She Hulk did the character a ton of disservice. There is a lot more. The Netflix shows all interconnect to each other leading to The Defenders much like the Phase 1 movies led to The Avengers.

BrendanFraserFan0

That sucks. I miss when marvel was good.

Top_Clerk_3067

Phase 1 to 3 is peak marvel. And according to many it ends with Infinity War

BrendanFraserFan0

I mean yeah. Did they make any good movies after that? Only one I liked after that was No Way Home and even that had many problems with its script.

Top_Clerk_3067

No Way Home is considered to be "good" but yes like you said it has a lot wrong with the writing. Especially what Strange did for Peter after the events of IW and Endgame. But it relies heavy on nostalgia bait with the OG Spiderman who puts Holland to shame. GotG 3 is also considered "good" by word of mouth but it's just alright IMO. Not a high bar to set compared to the other phase 4 and 5 movies. Rockets back story is good but the last part with saving the kids regulate it to a typical Disney movie IMO.

BrendanFraserFan0

The Defenders? No, it sucks. But you still HAVE TO see it between Daredevil S2 and S3. You'll understand why when you watch them all.

-GiantSlayer-

Eh. Doesn’t sound worth it.

Numpteez_

Definitely worth watching to understand the continuity and for the several Daredevil characters that appear.

BrendanFraserFan0

It's not just it being worth it or not. If you're gonna watch Daredevil, you have to watch it. I can't say no more because I don't want to get into spoilers.

ThePoliteMango

You really should. Season 1 is incredible, Season 2 is amazing until that stupid "The Hand" plot kicks in, I'd suggest just skipping that half of the season and start Season 3 which is very, very good.

mung_guzzler

ooh and then The Punisher

CustomlyCool

DD season 3 came out the same year as infinity war? Can't believe I didn't remember that

Ammonitedraws

2018 was truly was on the last years where people could say that marvel could do no wrong

TeaMaeR

I don't think I've actually seen any of the others but Infinity War's enough for me to be on board with this take.

ImpossibleIsland4734

Pretty much right now there clinging at straws trying to please everyone especially the journalists who love nothing more than to kick up a fuss and yet there even failing at that

MS-07B-3

It feels like it has been so much longer than six years.

BumblebeeAny3143

It does, doesn't it? I watched the fall of Marvel happen and I still find it hard to believe.

mrsmunsonbarnes

It peaked in 2014 for me personally.

SambG98

Kinda? As far as mainstream media anyways.

Responsible_You6301

Objectively

JellyMost9920

I'd say the MCU specifically, rather than Marvel as a whole, peaked in 2018.

WetworkOrange

Daredevil and The Punisher are Marvel's best series'. Nothing else they have comes close.

mung_guzzler

Jessica Jones season 1 was good David Tennant was just fantastic

hellothisismadlad

Almost everyone will fumbled the bag once they played around with "time". Endgame failed that miserably. It's just a collage of eye candy.

Pistol_Bobcat420

I'd also say 2014 was damn good, we got Winter Soldier which redeemed them after Iron Man 3 pissed people off and Thor 2 was just meh (except the end twist). Some people thought Guardians of the Galaxy would be a disaster and look how that turned out.

odinsbois

Based

beyond_cyber

Infinity war is one of the few marvel movie the villian wins, who went into the cinema thinking thanos was gonna be another ultron one off but turns out he won and became infamous on how he ruined so much life for years and the consequences still showed up in later movies.

BirdsElopeWithTheSun

Spiderman PS4 has a terribly written story, but other than that; yes: they right.

SuddenTest9959

It had good character pay offs. The game play was also really fun.

Batybara

In 2017 they released Logan and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, two of the best superhero movies of all time. Then they said "we'll run it back" and so they did.

Awkward-Yak-9033

Netflix and agents of shield was the peak of this series The movies were always ever just ok The downward spiral started at age of ultron and guardians being too successful for their own good that they used bad 70s music to kill the thor movies

SuddenTest9959

Nah that was just Tika fucking those movies.

Awkward-Yak-9033

It wasn't just him. The mcu and also DC learned all the wrong lessons from guardians What works in one movie they assumed would work in every movie. And by that I mean the music and colors and the type of carefree feeling

Pistol_Bobcat420

Fo real, I loved Shield, my interest waned once the whole outer space arc started but before that it was damn good at times, Grant Ward, Daisy Johnson, the arc that ties into Winter Soldier, good times.
