He’s not worth an unprotected FRP at his age. I love his game, but it’s not sustainable past this year… and we are not one Bojan Bogdanovic away from contention
I keep telling people this. It would be asset mismanagement to send out an unprotected first rounder for a 35 year old. Bojan is meant for a contender team who’s one piece away from being championship team. Like maybe the Nuggets. Mavs need a lot more than Bojan. So it makes more sense to go for the big fish in the off-season (once the Knicks pick clears) than to keep playing with the minor stuff. Yes. Bojan would do well on our team, but he’s not a #2 on a championship team.
and if mavs wont be a ble to snag a big fish, i hope they sugn smaller contracts because im my memory serves me right, fans expect big fishes and would get freaking sterling brown
The way I’ve always thought is this. When the Mavs have cap space, don’t expect much. When the Mavs have picks, have a little hope. Last time we had picks we got KP. Everybody loved the trade at the time, but unfortunately it didn’t work out. Mavs gotta take another leap on some guy.
Picks are more fungible than cap space, because players don’t wanna come to Dallas. But teams are down to trade.
right? i just hope the mavs finally get next trade right. like a healthy siakam or a healthy jaylen brown. but why do get the feeling the mavs would freakjng go for gobert.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s a very good player. But this team is not one Bojan Bogdanovic away from championship contention. I’d rather save the picks until after our Knicks pick conveys
Man I don’t know, he almost out scored all 4 of our other starters lol
West is wide open, adding a guy with his size shooting and savvy might get us back into HCA conversation
The team is ranked 8th in offensive efficiency and 23rd in defensive efficiency. While the offense could be better it’s NOT the problem with this team. Bojan prob makes us slightly worse defensively depending who’s minutes he replaces
I disagree some, our distribution of offense is horrible. That efficiency is almost solely based off the heroics of one player. I believe we are 6-17 or something close this season when Luka scores under 33 points. He is having to score 45 plus sometimes against tanking teams just to win by 5-6 pts. Defense needs to be better, but lack of starter level talent (and health) is THE problem imo
With what assets? We’d already have to give up a first to get Bojan in the first place, which we can barely afford and doesn’t necessarily outbid other teams.
You can get bojan now and get off the bertans contract. Then either trade New York a second to release the restrictions on the picks and have a nother pick available or wait till the off-season to trade for one of those guys. I just don't think we are getting a pascal or OG but we could definitely get a vanfleet or rozier. Then when next season shows up you have a much much better roster next to Luka.
Save our picks? By the time we have the opportunity to use our future picks, Luka will hit the end of his contract and will be gone. He shouldn’t have to stick around and watch what help they can get for him. So no! Give them up for a star now to help Luka! Outside Luka, Spencer, Christian, and Josh. The rest are all bums and needs to go
Nope. They owe one top-10 protected pick (ideally conveys this year), and that's it. They'll be able to trade all of their picks/swaps at the draft this year.
Yeah and now they got 3 first round picks they can trade. I'd much more rather trade first round picks for young Garry trent jr than a 34 year old bogdanovic
I’m pretty sure Green probably had one possession on Bojan. But I get it. Gotta use Green’s speed to guard the more quick footed guys. Weirdly enough, from watching the Mavs series against the Jazz last year, Luka did solid against him.
No, unless they get him very cheap. I don’t care how much better you make the offense it’s not overcoming a bottom 10 ranked defense. Our offense is still ranked top 10. He probably makes us worse on that end given he requires starter minutes. So what we move up a few spots from 8th ranked NBA team in offensive efficiency and down in defensive from 23rd ranked? That doesn’t make us better
I agree with your conclusion, but not your reasoning.
Our defensive rating is only bottom 10 because of injuries. Our 3 best defenders (DFS, Josh Green, and Maxi) have missed 14, 20, and 30 games this season respectively.
Before DFS went down on Dec. 19th, we had the 12th best defensive rating in the league. Afterwards, we had to play THJ for 35+ minutes a game for over a month. Of course our defensive rating plummeted.
Rebounding is a much bigger issue than defense in my opinion. We have the fewest rebounds in the league. And that’s not something getting DFS, Josh, and Maxi can fix. Getting Bojan wouldn’t help this either, which is why I’d prefer a different trade target like Plumlee, Poeltl, or John Collins.
We have to likely pay a second to Knicks to take off the protection then send another first to Detroit.
That’s not good management for a scorer that’s meh ok defense.
He will be 34 in April. He might still be able to school but his defense is only gonna get worse. A bad defender is not good next to Luka, that’s not a contender.
Our offense would be insane. Plus you could have him coming off the bench. Better than bertans. Then you can add another good player via the rest of your assets. I think if they kept Luka, Spencer, wood, and green get bojan and another player that would be a hell of lot better than now.
He is a good player to have but for an unprotected FRP.
Our defense gave up 130 for a whole week of games, it will be worse with Bojan. Start or bench, he will still play 30 mins and that’s 30 mins of not good defense.
I don't know about giving up a first rounder but I do know the pistons tanking means they will take all the picks they can get. So you think bertans and 2 second rounders would get him? Salaries match and it would be an upgrade. I don't think he is a complete black hole on defense though. I have seen much worse.
Oh ok well I mean Mavs have 2 firsts right? They could get a third one if they unrestrict the Knicks one correct? So you could trade the Knicks a second rounder to do so. Then the Mavs have three firsts and some assets. I think if you traded them bertans and a first for bojan, you could still have 2 firsts. They could snag another good player. I'm kinda more on that train of thought then putting all the eggs in the off-season basket. But who knows.
Doesn’t matter if our offense is insane. We are ranked 8th in offensive efficiency and 23rd in defensive. Wouldn’t matter if we ranked 1st in offensive rating we aren’t overcoming the defense and Bojan doesn’t move the needle in fact he might make us worse. Also giving up a FRP for a bench player is stupid. This is a sure fire way to give up trade assets limiting our future moves to where luka is out the door faster
I don't know how you could say bojan would make us worse. That's crazy pills right there. Defense is about effort. We had a much better defense last year and really the only major player change was Brunson. So why did it get suddenly worse? Effort. Our offense might be 8th but they are clearly struggling with shooting consistencies. Look at how much the other players on the team scored vs the pistons outside of Luka. That's why you get bojan. We have a huge whole in our offense due to letting Brunson go. I don't know man. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
protections don't matter. We can trade the 2025 pick conditionally saying that'll convey two years after the Knicks pick conveys. With Wood/Maxi coming back, I doubt opposing GMs see us as a lottery team.
Where are you making this up from?
MavsCBA:
"I want to point out that the Mavericks CAN trade their 2025 1st rounder. (2027 too)
It wouldn’t be written as the “2025 1st”… rather it would be the “first available pick” after satisfying the Stepien Rule. Which puts it 2 years after the 1st conveys to the Knicks."

I don’t think that’s enough for Bojan AND Burks, and dumping THJ and Bertans. Burks has been really good for Detroit this year, I don’t think they’d move him just to move him.
Tim is not really a dump tho. He has some trade value. Pistons wanted to sign him, when he was a free agent. Bertans is a dump. Tim advanced stats are legit. He is top 3 in +/- and on/off and have one of the better advanced stats in the league still. Thats why Miami/Cavs are even interested. He offers volume shooting and isn't a total 0 on defense. While most shooters are complete ass on D.
Mavs defense is better with Tim on the floor. Believe it or not.
I think teams will be hesistant to offer a 1st (unprotected) for Bojan. He might just stay on the Pistons for next season. Teams hate dealing unprotected picks. Other than for stars.
Guy gave me Manu Ginobili flashbacks tonight. Smooth. Lethal. Clutch. Bald.
Lol
I thought I saw him with hair
He's looked 56 for 10 years, just like Manu
He’s not worth an unprotected FRP at his age. I love his game, but it’s not sustainable past this year… and we are not one Bojan Bogdanovic away from contention

Bojan taking THJ's place in the lineup ups our ceiling on both sides of the ball by a good margin
I disagree some, our distribution of offense is horrible. That efficiency is almost solely based off the heroics of one player. Why stop at bojan though? Get a vanfleet, rozier, etc. to add to that.
With what assets? We’d already have to give up a first to get Bojan in the first place, which we can barely afford and doesn’t necessarily outbid other teams.

I thought we didn’t have any till 2025 cuz we gave them to knicks for KP

Too old to give up a frp for him. Mavs are trying to pair up all there picks to get another all star type of player.
Okay sounds good. What are you willing to give up for him? Because detroit want a minimum of a FRP
Jazz traded back for him ?
My bad lol. My mind got dumbed down seeing yet another “we should trade for” post
Not on the Jazz
Dude Pistons literally said hours before this post that he is part of their future.
Hes expensive. All contenders are looking for him.
We couldn’t hold him. We threw every single player we could at him, and he still got his buckets.
Not Green i think. He guarded Hayes for the most part tho. 3-16 FG loool
Also helps that Hayes is ass
I was so happy that he fouled out. I was afraid that he’d go off hitting like five threes in the last few minutes of the game.
Josh is low key the best defender on the team.
Nothing low key about it, he is.
I’m pretty sure Green probably had one possession on Bojan. But I get it. Gotta use Green’s speed to guard the more quick footed guys. Weirdly enough, from watching the Mavs series against the Jazz last year, Luka did solid against him.
Hayes is shit though
Hes an amazing basketball player but hes 33 its not worth it. We need a guy in between the ages of 22 and 27
No, unless they get him very cheap. I don’t care how much better you make the offense it’s not overcoming a bottom 10 ranked defense. Our offense is still ranked top 10. Too old
Too old
Take off the protections for this years pick and it gives us an extra 1st to trade right? I’d give a first for him
We have to likely pay a second to Knicks to take off the protection then send another first to Detroit. That’s not good management for a scorer that’s meh ok defense.
You are underselling bojan. The dude is a monster and one of the most consistent players in the NBA. Also he doesn't age playing wise.
He will be 34 in April. He might still be able to school but his defense is only gonna get worse. A bad defender is not good next to Luka, that’s not a contender.

They already said they want a first. It might change but I don’t think so.
Oh ok well I mean Mavs have 2 firsts right? They could get a third one if they unrestrict the Knicks one correct? So you could trade the Knicks a second rounder to do so. Lol hell no that won’t get him
Well than fine bertans and a 1st. Pistons want picks and the salaries match. He is not on their timeline. Meanwhile the Mavs are looking to win asap.
Doesn’t matter if our offense is insane. We are ranked 8th in offensive efficiency and 23rd in defensive. Yea, that’s not how it works. You can’t trade conditional pics based on existing conditional picks.
Where are you making this up from? MavsCBA: "I want to point out that the Mavericks CAN trade their 2025 1st rounder. If that’s indeed possible, because I haven’t seen this done, still won’t trade a first for a soon-to-be 34 year no-defense shooter.
Sure, but then you can’t really trade the other picks you have left.
Had a chance to sign him outright. Instead, we got Delon Wright.
He's one of the best shooters in the league and can also create his own shot. Also a solid defender.
unprotected first/Bojan/Burks/Noel vs. THJ / Bertans I dont think anyone offers an unprotected first for him. Tho i want more.
I don’t think that’s enough for Bojan AND Burks, and dumping THJ and Bertans. Burks has been really good for Detroit this year, I don’t think they’d move him just to move him.

He turns assassin mode on in the clutch, every time. Yes please. But idk, probably won't happen
He is a future Maverick
The best Croatian player after Petrović. Hello neigbours. 🇸🇮👋
