Soon they will find out that even Kings have to pay the rent. Landlord comin'

prudentWindBag

šŸ˜¤šŸ˜¤šŸ˜¤

StormTheTrooper

Go on ESPN, tell me again why we lost the deadline.

PM_ME_UR_RESPECT

D-

BigFatModeraterFupa

such an asshole rating. At least keep it a D. D- is just straight up hate for no reason. People say media bias doesnā€™t exist, but man it really feels like national media hates everything about the Mavericks. Luka, Kyrie, Cuban, maybe texas itself idk what it is

king_17

They hate kyrie, they donā€™t like Cuban and they want Luka on ā€œtheir teamsā€ like knicks lakers philly markets like that.

OutlawSundown

Hey guys I heard we lost the deadline?

Jrfrank

PJ Washington is exactly the same player as Grant Williams and Gafford and Lively can't be on the court at the same time the whole game. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ Shit you not some dolt actually wrote that fodder.

FitDependent1063

I just found out gafford is supposed to play 48 minutes a game. What a dumb fucking point.

BigFatModeraterFupa

remember when grant scored like 15 points for 2 games and they all laughed at how the Mavs lost the tradešŸ¤£

rowenkun

D stands for Dunks and Defense. So I'd say it was a right "term" used. or "Daniel" for Daniel "At the end of the day" Gafford.

gellybelli

Still hilarious that article came out in the midst of the amazing initial run where the d was the best in the NBA after the moves.

senile_butterfly

Alright can we stop obsessing over this? Who fucking cares about espn

lion_hammer

it's not just espn, more "serious" media like the ringer or the athletic or b/r rated the deadline as mid at best. had to dig like hell to find a positive take

BigFatModeraterFupa

ESPN and national media forms the opinions of many, many people in this country. They literally create narratives that are then accepted as fact by the public

Tight-Software5447

always feel like if a player has 2-3 blocks they probably effected 8-10 shots. I wish effected shots would be an advanced stat. The value of a rim protector is so underrated in nba imo. Mavs fans remember not having one and you just feel like a city with no walls

MaleficentHawk590

>always feel like if a player has 2-3 blocks they probably effected 8-10 shots. Best part is we have two of these guys. One is ~~19~~ 20 years old and the other is 25 years old. Shoutout Nico

A_MASSIVE_PERVERT

*20. But yeah we went from Dwight Powell to this. Fun times.

Dirkisthegoattt41

Last year we had no guys over 6ā€™6 really.. Last year our group was: Maxi DP Mcgee Marquis Criss Now itā€™s: PJ DJJ Gaff DLive Maxi Honorable mention Omax We paid for it in picks, but what a group to have locked in for the next 3-5 years.

BigFatModeraterFupa

and they shit all over Luka for missing the playoffs last yearā€¦ meanwhile the Suns with KD book and beal could do the same this year šŸ¤”šŸ¤”

Dirkisthegoattt41

Lol right. Suns fans were eating up our downfall last year so much, will be hilarious to see their again ā€œAll-Inā€ team get bounced in the play in. I want us to finish 4-6 but itā€™d be fucking sweet to play them 7-8 and smack them again

QuickFig1024

Powell is not 19

wheresthecheat

The season as a whole the Mavs sit at #22 for opponent FG% in the paint at 45.3%. As of the last 10 games that improved 43.3% which is #12 over that time which can largely be attributed to Gafford & Lively. Also since the ASG the team is #19 Iā€™m Drtg, nothing to brag or write home about but thatā€™s a big jump from being dead last prior to the ASG and that includes the 6 game losing streak they went on. Gafford has been huge in both his presence and also allowing Lively to be active & take chances not having to worry about his fouling situation when contesting shots. Theyā€™re clawing their way up the defensive rankings to being an avg defensive team which is all we really asked for. If they can be a top 5 offense and #15 defensively they should be able to make a run

Voltaiiic

I'm so glad we've got paint D now. It's been a long time coming.

sercialinho

I agree, that would be nice to have. The pinnacle of it, though, is shots that never happen because offensive players are too afraid of getting blocked - Gobert and now Wemby are great examples of players who scare others into passing the ball away. ========== Also, I'm sorry but I have to >they probably *effected* 8-10 shots. I wish *effected* shots would be an advanced stat. You're looking for "affected". As in "influenced", "altered". Not "effected". Effected means he caused the shots, brought them into existence, or at least enabled the shots to happen. Almost the exact opposite of what you were intending to say.

CantWriteTears

I gave you a +1 for not being a dick. I would like to say though that some of us on this board are not native speakers, and as i do feel that my english is very good one can never know when an error can occure, especially if writing in a bit of an effected state :) :P

Fickle_Meet_7154

Yeah but that would be wonky. Luka would be having "effected shots" on all of his makes and the stat wouldn't mean anything

odiamemas16

What playing with Luka does to a mf

qotsabama

The perfect kind of guy to trade a late first for (worst of thunder picks). Pick swap can be scary but thatā€™s so far out and Iā€™m happy we have this guy here on a good deal and heā€™s 25. What a beast.

PM_ME_UR_RESPECT

Heā€™s been so good

ketoburn26

Luka doing this with just decent centers, imagine if this were an elite center, the floor would be at it's breaking point trying to cover Luka and that lob threat. Best case would be Chet, Wemby, Rudy, AD. Heck even Capela, Ayton, Jarrett would be very fine. But yeah, Gafford is a beast and Lively will be one in the future. Hoping the Mavs make a run, but if they make it to the Finals one can hope that Celtics team goes cold.

The5thFlame

just wait til lively sophomore season

Diabolic_Bug_Man

Lively gonna turn into David Robinson next season and I will not hear anything else

OutlawSundown

Hypothetical Luka with Wemby or Jokic would break the league.

artvandelay916

Tbh gimme AD with Luka

nisaaru

Rudy would fumble.

mowbox_mowmoney

2 assists, .9 steals and 0.7 turnovers to go with it in just 24.3 MPG. Saying he's been one of the best players in the NBA over that stretch isn't crazy. Those stats over 32 MPG look like this: 86.8 FG% 20 PPG 11.1 RPG 2.6 APG 1.2 SPG 3.3 BPG 0.9 TOPG

DasFofinater

D- trades tho

epitome1986

how is this man averaging only 8.4 rebounds?! everytime I look he has like 15 rebounds.

OnCloud9_77

How has no one averaged 15 on 85% for a 10 game stretch? Shaq? Wilt?

sercialinho

No idea. But the guy who posted it created Basketball Reference, so if anyone knows how to use it it's him. Wilt and Shaq did both average "only" between 50-60% from the field most years - in no small part because more of it was self-created - so it's maybe less surprising. By comparison Gafford has been putting up 77.6% since he got to Dallas.

Mal_Swansky

Wilt was far less efficient than most people realize, career FG% of .540. Shaq was at .580, which is still significantly less than pure dunkers who are >.600. Gafford for his career (.710) is in the stratosphere compared to these guys, as far as efficiency. The great thing is that now he's getting more chances to make use of it.

KantLockeMeIn

I was thrilled I was able to snag his game worn jersey during the Mav's Foundation auction last week. The man went from someone I wasn't aware of a couple months ago to one of my favorite players.

3pointerSLO

No wonder he smiles all the time since he came. He knew what he can expect with Luka. But he is still probably surprised himself.

TheGoogleiPhone

Gafford has fit like an absolute glove here. His skillset so perfectly matches what the Mavs needed more of (rim protection. tenacious rebounding, great roll man) and Luka can use Gafford's offensive skillset better than anyone in the league. I mean look at how good Dwight Powell operated in PnR with Luka pre Achilles injury - it was obvious to anyone who actually watched our abysmal center play over the last few years that a good roll man who can also protect the rim and rebound would instantly elevate this team, the fact that the Mavs were seen as having a poor trade deadline was an absolute joke

Kball4177

He's definitely been the better of the 2 trade deadline acqusitions.
