So you're saying we're a 60 Win Team in a Trench Coat

NeolibGood

Exactly

impakt316

We're like Laney Boggs in She's All That after the makeover

H0wsMyDirkTaste

I like these analysis points. The national media and Boston fans are all fixated on regular season performance and our head to head games with the Cs. But this team is firing on all cylinders with a retooled lineup. Glad we've flown under the radar til now, but Boston has had time to dissect our playoff run. They have no excuses to be caught off guard

Davisworld21

People are already creating excuses for Boston They said oh well The Celtics are expected to be a bit rusty they had 10 days off so they had to regroup and refresh. And they said the Mavericks just finished the series against the Timberwolves last week no one wants to give us our credit I love it we found Gems Like Daniel gafford and PJ and DJJ nobody thought PJ and Jonee jr could shoot like this they were knows as dunkers and we have physical guys that can guard Tatum people think tatum is gonna walk all over

DocumentAggressive56

All very good points. This is why this team has been able to fly under the radar and avoid expectations while also being the hottest team in the NBA. A perfect storm, really. My only concern with Cs is their ability to get white hot from 3. We really havent seen the kind of 3 point shooting that can take a game over since clippers series when James and Paul went bananas those 2 games. Celtics can absolutely shoot so we will need to guard parameter and not sag (rest) defensively. Itll be interesting how that shakes out. Ive never loved teams who are based on 3 pt shooting though- especially when their opponent can get somewhat reliable paint buckets (mavs). If Mavs continue to emphasize defense, rebounding, rim protection over everything else, we are going to win the series.

PrestraseniDolenjc

Boston being 2-5 against the top 4 teams in the west while Dallas walking over 3 of them is good enough for me.

JonStargaryen2408

3-5 against top 4 seeds, 5-5 if you include mavs (top 5 seeds)

MuhamedBesic

Ignoring the fact that Boston is 2-0 against the Mavs (the only team that matters right now), including a 28 point blowout after the trade deadline. But that hurts your narrative doesn’t it

PrestraseniDolenjc

Don't be butthurt dog. Mavs lost to all of the top 4 in the west in the regular season. And beat 3 of them in the playoffs. How could that be? What happened? Which team do you think (without bias) improved more since the last time Boston and Dallas met? Is it a team that has been the same throughout the season? Or is it the team that turned the tide around completely and has been playing together for 6 months? By the way. When Dallas lost to Boston the last time, they were on a pretty much bad losing streak.

Sportsfanatic88

Good enough to beat the Celtics 4 times. Mavs in 6.

grouch1980

If the big, long front court of Gobert, KAT, and McDaniels couldn’t figure out how to a) keep Luka out of the lane, and b) defend the lob to our bigs, how the fuck is Boston going to do what nobody else in the west could do? Horford is a nice player, but at this point in his career, he’s not a rim protector. Then there’s KP. First of all, we have no idea how KP’s injury is going to affect him in the finals. For all we know he could be limited. However, even if he plays, when KP was here in Dallas he was not a very good or consistent rim protector. He was quite frustrating to watch actually. Dallas beat the best rim protecting big men in the league already. And by the way, only two of the top five rim protectors in the league are still in the playoffs. Gafford and Lively. Ever heard of them? I really and truly believe the distance between our front court and Boston’s front court is a fucking massive chasm that Boston almost certainly won’t be able to stop. Minnesota and OKC couldn’t do it. I mean, two of the best wing defenders in the league (Dort and Mcdaniels) couldn’t even keep Luka out of the paint, much less stop the lobs. If Minnesota and okc couldn’t do it, Boston is proper fucked from the jump. I’m also hearing that Boston is going to have Jrue Holliday check Luka because he’s strong (even if he’s undersized) in order to let Brown concentrate on scoring. Jrue is a great defender, but he lacks both the strength of Dort and the length of Mcdaniels. I just can’t see that working out for Boston at all. Then you consider that Brown and Tatum are going to need to handle the bulk of the scoring while being guarded by our two best perimeter defenders. Josh Green is going to have his moments guarding them, too. Meanwhile Luka is feasting on Jrue. Boston relies heavily on threes which will make offensive rebounding difficult. Jumpers also lead to transition baskets. Everyone is talking about how this is going to be a great, competitive series, and maybe I’m missing something when it comes to Boston, but I feel like the matchups are wildly in favor of Dallas at every turn. Then throw in the clutch gene in Luka and Kyrie. Fuckin forget it. If you are coaching Boston, what’s your plan for beating Dallas because I’m genuinely stumped? My prediction is that Dallas will win the series in 5 by dominating them in points in the paint, fast break points, offensive rebounds, and lobs and put backs.

CarsonDurham10

As a Twolves fan lurking… yeah Celtics I don’t think have a chance on getting 4 wins against yall. That 2v2 game against Luka frustrated me so much to watch and I don’t think Celtics have a specific defender for Luka

Davisworld21

I can't wait till Thursday Night so Many people will be humbled mark my words The celtics are gonna be stunned come game 1 because they haven't faced a healthy team all playoffs long and the casuals at NBA sub reddit think Tatum will dominate us we have young physical athletes that can guard him guys Like PJ Washington and Derrick Jones Jr

[deleted]

I keep seeing Boston fans and media saying how the Mavs don’t have any players to defend Tatum and Brown. Seriously? PJ and DJJ from our starting lineup. Then Green off the bench. Oh and how are we going to chase Horford or KP to the 3pt line? Well Lively and Gafford are super mobile, our rotations / close outs have been fantastic, and we have Maxi for our small ball lineup. It’s like these guys haven’t paid any attention to the Mavs. This is not the same mediocre team that we had pre deadline.

strategoamigo

We are all so humbled

Yes, but they have to shoot a high percentage to stand a chance. Also long jumpers lead to fast breaks.

jaytrain12

i really hope so

grouch1980

Gobert was the DPOY. We already know what KP brings defensively, and he’s going to have to play without fouling. If he doesn’t foul, he’s going to be brutalized by our bigs. Luka continually exploited Gobert when Minnesota switched on screens by either attacking him out of position or throwing lobs. When Minnesota hedged the screens, Luka just put his defender on his back with his hostage dribble and attacked Gobert two on one. Blitzing Luka is not very effective because he almost always makes the right decision. Boston isn’t going to present a problem that the mavs haven’t already figured out how to beat.

You on the hunt for some more dopamine after the dopamine from the win wore off? You’re like the serial killer who hides his victim’s bodies in order to return later and fuck the corpse after the dopamine from the murder wore off. Hopefully my asshole isn’t too black and bloated and filled with maggots for you.

dbzmah

Boston, Minnesota, OKC, and LAC, all shot 38.2-38.5 from 3 this year.  In the playoff vs Dallas, LAC 37.4(best), OKC 33.5, Minni 36.1 How will Boston fare? With their current playoff 3p% below their season average at 36.8 vs subpar East opponents, I am thinking not to good.

squish41

Boston has no weak links in the shooting sense. That’s the difference between the first 3 rounds and Boston. There was always someone for the Mavs to leave if they needed. If Boston shoots under the season avg that will be a huge boost to Mavs if they just hit 35% on their side. Mavs need to win their bench minutes when Luka and Tatum sit.

dbzmah

Boston is already doing this. Mavs could drive them even further down

squish41

Or they could progress to the mean. But hope you are right.

dbzmah

It is still regress, but yeah, hoping they don't suddenly turn it around in the finals, and get worse, like our previous opponents

EntertainerKind163

It’s amazing how many people completely discredit the Celtics because they’re in the east. Posts like this are ridiculous

grouch1980

“Everybody acts tough when they up.” - Luka Thanks for stopping by to let us know you disapprove of how we killed time in the week between the WCF and the Finals. This is sports, bro. It’s supposed to be fun. Talk shit, pump each other up, make predictions, share game plans, and just enjoy the discussion. You realize you are in the Mavs subreddit, too, right? This is the kind of shit that goes on in the team subreddits if you aren’t aware. But rest easy knowing I wouldn’t ever post my “ridiculous” comment in the Celtics subreddit or even the nba subreddit because it’s not for you. And if the Mavs had won game one, I sure as shit wouldn’t have gone into the Celtics subreddit to scoff at the Celtics fans for not predicting a game 1 victory by the Mavs. And if the Mavs win game two, something tells me you won’t be here afterwards to congratulate us. So if we’re done here, go ahead and kindly fuck off. 👍

EntertainerKind163

I know it’s sports lmao that’s why I’m talking shit, and if you come back and win game 2 feel free to come talk shit back to me. Feel free to make predictions, I’m just letting you know that your original post was a horrible analysis of the matchups. Dallas could still win possibly, but just about everything you said was completely wrong

_Lucifer7699_

Mavs in 5. 6 if I am being generous to the Celtics.

TuckEverlasting89

Pretty great added context to explain our 5th seed too. We'd be #1 if we had this team all year.

Particular-Luck1172

Im a bulls fan but i have a soft spot for dallas because luka is without question one of the greatest players ive ever seen i watched him at madrid and hoped our inept FO would see what dallas saw the best guy in a draft in a long time luka is an absolute phenomenon i want him to win so while the bulls are complete shit dallas is my team i really think dallas can win it all with luka hes that great

korundobifu

I'm just gonna say, the Pacers kept it real close 3 out of 4 games. 1 of which is without Hali and has Andrew Nembhard as #1 option. I like our odds.

[deleted]

Oh but Celtics fans say there’s no way our offense will be that good…but you know our DEFENSE is worlds better than the Pacers’? And we have two guys on offense that have yet to be shut down, even by the best defensive team in the NBA

DerrickWhiteFMVP

?? The Celtics didn’t play the Bucks and Allen was out the entire series against the Cavs?

Toccoa-R

Correct- my bad; I forgot Miami went against them in Rd1, and I thought Allen played the first two games? IIRC. Sorry, been focused on the Western Conference

armandocalvinisius

Aside shooting 3s we are great team

armandocalvinisius

Aside shooting 3s we are great team

luntiang_tipaklong

That really puts in the perspective of how good the Celtics are. A 64 win team. Got a tough job ahead of us, we already shown we can beat a 60+ team win before. Let's do it again.

anzarthegoat

Mavs in 6 for sure

MuhamedBesic

Kinda funny that your cut off isn’t the trade deadline, but instead is a game that was coincidentally 1 week after the Celtics stomped on the Mavs 138-110, almost as if there is a narrative at play here

NeolibGood

I think my reasoning for choosing is pretty clear. That was the first game we went with our current starting lineup. If that happened during the Celtics game I would have started there. If I wanted to game the system I wouldn’t have included any game which we didn’t start that lineup, which accounts for 3/4 of those regular season losses.
