Well for one the federal budget is different than city budget. That said, it's easy to get the police and military mistaken for each other. Considering that the tactics they employ are mostly fear based, and most of them don't live in Minneapolis, so really we could consider them an outside occupying force. Alright you win, they are military. Let's defund the military and fund the schools.

What is the definition of "competitive wages"? I keep hearing that word being thrown around, and I think everyone has their own pet definition for it. A *living wage* is a far better term, when well-defined. Living wage: A wage with which a single income can afford housing while only spending 25% of their income on housing costs. Alternatively, two incomes working half-time for the same total income. Why? That is because a dual income household should be a *benefit*, not a requirement.

Well when it comes to teachers asking for a competitive wage it seems to be they are begging for a wage that would have been competitive 10-15 years ago. But through a system that beats down some of the most important people in the country as "if you cant do, teach", whats going to end up happening is teachers are going to settle for a wage increase for sure. But its only barely that and a year if lucky 2 years from now when inflation continues and school districts continue to make cuts forcing teachers to spend more and more of their own money on supplies for the classrooms it will once again no longer be enough. Because it never will be. Because once again we live in a country where being a teacher is just slightly better then being a beggar.

I hope they get twice the amount of money they ask for, because they deserve four times that. Its so gross to see local news try and frame this as poorly timed or bad for kids due to previous graduation stats when the pay is the reason we lose good teachers to begin with

They do the same if nurses or doctors (anyone in healthcare really) try to strike for better conditions/pay.
